Representatives from RTÉ, including director general Kevin Bakhurst, spoke at a Joint Committee on Arts, Media, Communications and Sport yesterday. Bakhurst said in his opening remarks it is “regrettable” that a “sincere attempt” by the national broadcaster to be more transparent has been categorised as another scandal. A new payment scandal in RTE as it emerged a staff member's salary was not properly accounted for. It did not include separate producer fees paid to presenter Derek Mooney when calculating the pay of its top 10 highest earners in previous years, from 2020 to 2024.
