The remarks prompted immediate backlash, with many condemning them as perpetuating racist stereotypes about Black women. Harris's qualifications are substantial, with a career spanning over two decades as a prosecutor, her tenure as San Francisco's district attorney, and later California's attorney general. Black women put out a call to Black women and they responded. On Sunday, it was to the tune of 40,000 women who gathered on a Zoom call to show support and rally behind Vice President Kamala Harris to become the Democratic presidential nominee after President Joe Biden said he would not run. The call was moderated by one of the group's conveners, Jyothika Edy, and they raised $1.5 million in just three hours. It featured speakers like Donna Brazile and Congresswomen Joyce Beatty, Jasmine Crockett, and Maxine Waters. Also in attendance: Actress and activist Jenifer Lewis, who broke out in song, Siobhan Arline Bradley, president of the National Congress of Negro Women, Black Voters Matter co-founder LaTosha Brown, members of the Divine Nine, and many more. The women did not only speak of the power of the moment but pushed back on the rhetoric from right-wing attacks against Harris. The group intends to hold more calls. Dr. Johnnetta B. North Carolina became the tenth state to recognize No Labels as a political party this week. The non-profit group behind the effort seems to think there is a moderate majority in America that wants to move away from the two-party system. Leaders of the New Labels Party are now toying with offering a presidential ticket in the 2024 election to tap into what they think is a dissatisfaction with the status quo. Veteran journalist Gerald Seib has been reporting on the No Labels movement. “As I go around the country and talk to people, I get asked all the time, why isn't there a third party?” says Seib, who last year retired from his role as executive Washington editor for the Wall Street Journal. “They say why isn't there an alternative?” Seib recently published an essay in his former paper titled “Could a Third Party Finally Do It?” He joined Diane to talk about the history of third party candidates – and why this might be the election we see one break through.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis finally announced his bid for president. He did it on Twitter with Elon Musk, the platform's controversial owner, and it did not go well. After 25 minutes of silence and delays, DeSantis finally gave his speech. Will the rocky start marr his campaign, or does it not matter? Then, it's the third anniversary of George Floyd's murder by Minneapolis police officers. His death sparked an important movement in the U.S. and around the world. But what was not well-known about Floyd's life is that he was a music lover and a mentor to men in his community.
