James Lavelle of UNKLE discusses the new album 'The Road: Part 1' that come out Aug 18th. We also discuss his journey from creating Mo Wax Records when he was 18 up until this point. Taking in his meeting and collaborating with artists like Josh Homme, Ian Astbury, Chris Goss and Jeordie White etc. For an artists to come from a dance and hip hop background to end up producing Like Clockwork by Queens Of The Stone Age is an interesting transition from one genre to the another at a time when that really wasn't the norm. It would be fair that the paths created by artists such as James have made it the norm for todays musical and cultural landscape to be one that is happy to mix genres and cultures. The new UNKLE album is 'The Road: Pt. 1' is released August 18th on Songs For The Def. Johnny Royal is a good friend of mine from college, and I wanted to reach out to him and Nero in Hollywood, California to see how his band Black Lodge is doing out there, and how the music scene compares to Pittsburgh. We had an awesome conversation about what inspired them to get into music, their new production studio (Which looks so boss), and what is in store next for their band. Tune in and check them out at Black Lodge. Nero Bellum: Synth/Bass Raanen Bozzio: Drums Johnny Royal: Guitars Daniel Sahagun: Vocals "Black Lodge is an electronic rock band from Los Angeles, CA consisting of Daniel Sahagún on vocals, Johnny Royal on guitar, Nero Bellum on bass/synth, and Raanen Bozzio, the son of legendary musician Terry Bozzio, on drums. The band has been writing and recording their debut full-length album at The Realm Studios in Los Angeles with Lee Miles (Rise Against) producing, Johnny Royal and Daniel Sahagún co-producing, engineering and additional co-production by Matt Dougherty (Pop Evil), and Sean Beavan (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson) mixing. Black Lodge's debut full-length album features 10 tracks, including "Thoughts", which was recently premiered with LA Weekly prior to their sold-out headlining show at The Viper Room in Hollywood and the acoustic track "XIII". The ballad co-written with Lee Miles and Jeordie White (Twiggy Ramirez of Marilyn Manson) serves as a tribute to their late bass player Ventura XIII (Ventura Sergio Bañuelos). On April 29th, 2014 during the writing sessions for this album, Ventura Bañuelos was killed in a motorcycle accident in Los Angeles, CA. In October of 2013, Black Lodge released their debut EP, produced by Lee Miles and Jeordie White, with co-production by Sean Beavan, Johnny Royal, and Zach Webb, mixing by Sean Beavan, and mastering by Paul Logus. The Black Lodge self-titled debut EP was written and recorded at The Realm Studios in Los Angeles, CA." This episode is brought to you by Levity Pgh a sensory deprivation experience! Ladies and Gentlemen, Jeordie White. Ta daaaa. PLAYLIST : Marilyn Manson – rock is dead Marilyn Manson – great big white world Marilyn Manson – the death song Desert Sessions – a girl like me UNKLE – burn my shadow Nine Inch Nails – the hand that feeds A Perfect Circle – weak and powerless Goon Moon – apple pie Twiggy + Twiggy – I only want to be with you Venom – welcome to Hell
