Un ouvrage inédit sur la légendaire scène punk d'Orange County, en Californie, s'apprête à voir le jour le 20 mai prochain, intitulé "Tearing Down the Orange Curtain : How Punk Rock Brought Orange County to the World". Hipp hurra!

This week, we start a new series all about appreciating the shredded, gravelly, gritty, raspy pipes and throats of rock n' roll. We are focusing on lead singers who crafted truly special tones with their sandpapered delivery. Join us in celebrating these unique sets of pipes that set them apart from all the others. Anyone can scream, but only a few deliver gravel, grit & glory! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Our appreciation, this week, of rough and textured singing extends to all of the genres that we love. Kevin never realized how much this style of vocalizing had an impact on him until putting this whole thing together. As always, we hope we turn you onto something new!Songs this week include:Metal Church – “Ton Of Bricks” from The Dark (1986)Hot Water Music – “Trademark” from Fuel For The Hate Game (1997)Love/Hate – “Blackout In The Red Room” from Blackout In The Red Room (1990)The Baboon Show – “Gold” from God Bless You All (2022)Grave Digger – “Hymn Of The Damned” from The Living Dead (2018)The Distillers – “Die On A Rope” from Coral Fang (2003)Asomvel – “Born To Rock ‘n' Roll” from Born To Rock ‘n' Roll(2024)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/inobscuria/og-shopCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/

Eric Valentine's journey into music started with a $50 drum set from a garage sale and drum lessons at age nine. By 12, he was experimenting with home recordings, and by high school, he had a 4-track recorder and was recording local musicians. At 17, he and a friend launched a 16-track studio in a garage, advertising $10 per hour for recording sessions—marking the start of his professional career. His big break came when his band, T-Ride, signed with Hollywood Records under the condition that he produce and engineer their album. Instead of renting an expensive studio, he upgraded their own space, investing in high-end gear. Though the band didn't achieve major success, it led Eric to focus on producing local artists. Over the next few years, he worked with rapper Paris, recorded Joe Satriani, and ultimately helped launch the careers of Smash Mouth and Third Eye Blind. He co-produced Third Eye Blind's debut album and took a DIY approach with Smash Mouth, finishing their album before they even had a deal—leading to their signing with Interscope just days after mastering. With multiple hit records under his belt, Eric relocated from the Bay Area to Los Angeles, closing his legendary “H.O.S.” Studios to establish Barefoot Recording. There, he produced major albums for Queens of the Stone Age, Good Charlotte, Taking Back Sunday, Maroon 5, Slash, and Gwen Stefani, accumulating nearly 65 million album sales worldwide. In 2010, he expanded into recording equipment design, launching Undertone Audio to create high-end studio gear, including a Class A console with a revolutionary EQ.Most recently, Eric moved his studio setup to Vermont, where he spent four years building a state-of-the-art 10,000-square-foot recording facility. Now settled in, he's focusing on his latest passion: The Audionaut Institute, an educational platform where audio enthusiasts can explore the art of recording and production.IN THIS EPISODE YOU'LL LEARN:Learning on your own vs. having a mentorWorking with Queens Of The Stone Age, Good Charlotte, and Third Eye BlindEstablishing the vision of a projectHow he gets big, natural-sounding drumsUsing minimal micing techniquesHow to tune drums to the key of a songThe beauty of imperfectionArranging your tracks so they practically EQ themselvesMaking extreme mix movesCreating movement, energy, and width in a mixTips for getting the low-end rightHis delay trick for controlling low-end headroomTo learn more about Eric visit: https://www.audionautinstitute.com/mrwevLooking for 1-on-1 feedback and training to help you create pro-quality mixes?Check out my coaching program Amplitude and apply to join:https://masteryourmix.com/amplitude/ Want additional help with your music productions? For tips on how to improve your mixes, visit: https://masteryourmix.com/ Download your FREE copy of the Ultimate Mixing Blueprint: https://masteryourmix.com/blueprint/ Get your copy of my Amazon #1 bestselling books:The Recording Mindset: A Step-By-Step Guide to Creating Pro Recordings From Your Home Studio: https://therecordingmindset.com The Mixing Mindset: The Step-By-Step Formula For Creating Professional Rock Mixes From Your Home Studio:

Josh Ostrander is back with a new Mondo Cozmo album and I'm stoked to share this amazing interview with all of you!  His project is named for his dog, Cozmo, who recently passed away, and the new album, “It's PRINCIPAL,” is simply outstanding — a beautiful alt-rock album with a driving vibe and a gripping and cohesive throughline. Josh has a great attitude and an endearing sense of humor and I get into it all with him. We talk about his life philosophy: a combination of gratitude, self-acceptance and the belief that life is a series of “a million little miracles.”  Josh's humor and emotional awareness will lift you up; it did for me… and I'm all about that. Brian Meth's uncle never could have predicted that a Jose Feliciano concert would lead to a Led Zeppelin opening – a story so rich in the unexpected it could only have been real life. It's tales like these that fueled our latest jam session at the "Necessary List," where we found ourselves tangled in the vibrant history of music videos. Joined by the illustrious poster artist and my dear comrade, Brian, we pored over the kaleidoscope of visuals that have become as iconic as the songs they accompany. From Madonna's boundary-pushing "Like a Prayer" to the theatrical masterpiece that is Michael Jackson's "Thriller," we celebrated the symbiotic dance between sound and sight. Our studio in Kansas City was alive with the electric charge of nostalgia as we scrutinized and debated Rolling Stone's top music video rankings. With each riff and chorus, we dissected the cultural ripples of videos like "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel and reflected on those that challenged the status quo – think Childish Gambino's "This Is America." But it wasn't just a journey into the past; we cast our gaze forward to the future of visual storytelling in music, weighing in on recent creations and the shifting landscape of media consumption. As the 100th episode of "Another Unecessary List" unfurled before us, we were reminded of the gratitude we have for those who tune in. We teased a little about the future – the website's redesign and the new content we're itching to share. With Brian by my side, we wrapped up feeling amped about where music videos have been and excited for where they're headed. Breaking down the recent Queens of the Stone Age show in Houston. Has there been a record made in the last 20 years that's better than Songs for the Deaf? Will Josh Homme be the last ever rock star in music history? Have we made the concept of a rock star extinct in general? Other topics include the total irrelevance and uselessness of Jann Wenner/Rolling Stone Magazine, teenage chaos in Oklahoma, and meeting Dave Chandler in a New Orleans bar while visiting Jimmy Bower. On this episode of Tuna On Toast, Stryker interviews Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age. The band has a new album out called ‘In Times New Roman' and Josh tells Stryker all about how it came together. The guys discuss inspiration for some of the songs, including “Paper Machete” and "What the Peephole Say." Josh has had a difficult few years but he explains to Stryker why he's able to see a light at the end of the tunnel, and even reveals that he laughs when life gets especially tough. Queens of the Stone Age are out on tour and Josh details how he puts the band's setlist together every night. He also explains why he still loves playing “No One Knows” and why QOTSA will never be a band that refuses to play their hits.
