Abbiamo spesso incontrato il termine "musica arabo-andalusa" e potremmo pensare che indichi una fusion fra musica araba e flamenco.  Si tratta di tutt'altra coas, invece.Iniziamo l'analisi con un brano di Paco de Lucía dedicato a Ziryāb. Nel 1990 Paco de Lucía pubblicò un intero CD dedicato a Ziryāb, e in un concerto a Siviglia suonò  con due chitarristi, suo nipote, José María Bandera e Juan Manuel Cañizares.Ma chi era Ziryāb?Ziryāb, ossia Abū al-Ḥasan ʿAlī ibn Nāfīʿ, nasce intorno al 789 nell'area dell'attuale Iraq, probabilmente vicino a Baghdad; l'origine etnica è dibattuta (persiano, curdo, africano o arabo). Il nome d'arte significa “usignolo nero” o “merlo”, indicazione della dolcezza della voce e della carnagione scura. Da giovane si formò alla corte abbaside di Hārūn al‑Rashīd a Baghdad, presso il maestro di musica ʿIshāq al‑Mawsilī, e si distinse perle sue qualità artistiche. Lasciò Baghdad, forse in fuga per rivalità con il suo maestro. Dopo un periodo in Nord Africa, intorno al 822 si trasferì alla corte di ʿAbd al‑Raḥmān II a Córdoba, allora centro politico e culturale dell'Islam occidentale.A Córdoba Ziryāb non si limitò alla musica: promosse innovazioni nella musica e divenne un vero influencer dell'epoca, tanto che lo stile estetico e di vita della corte andò modellandosi su di lui. Morì intorno all'857 d.C. a Córdoba, lasciando un'eredità che abbraccia costume, moda, gastronomia e performance.A Córdoba la musica classica araba di Baghdad si fuse con tradizioni visigote-cristiane e berbere nord-africane: questo è il seme della musica che oggi definiamo “musica arabo-andalusa”.Nel contesto di al-Andalus e grazie all'impulso dato da Ziryab, sorsero nuove forme poetico-musicali: il muwashshah (che significa ornato, ricamato) canto accompagnato da musica, in lingua colta e lo zajal in lingua dislettale. Lo zajal è una cantillazione più che un canto. Ascoltiamo un esempio di zajal del più famoso poeta del genere, Ibn Qūzmān (Córdoba ca. 1080-1160). Ti ricordo il Trovo, forma poetica che esiste ancor oggi in Spagna.Per capire come suona un muwashshah ascoltiamo la voce della cantante libanese Fairuz nell'esecuzione di “Jādaka al-Ghaithu”, panegirico dedicato al sultano Muhammad V of Granada verso la fine del 1300.Con il declino del potere arabo in Spagna nel XIII secolo e la caduta dell'ultimo emirato musulmano a Granada nel 1492, la cultura musicale trovò rifugio nel Maghreb (Marocco, Algeria, Tunisia).  Da tempo gli arabi avevano perso potere in Al Andalus ed era iniziato un processo di espulsione, conversione forzata e migrazione delle comunità musulmane (e spesso ebraiche) verso il Maghreb. Queste migrazioni portarono con sé tradizioni musicali e culturali dell'Andalusia.La "musica arabo andalusa" o “musica ispano-araba” era musica colta, di corte. Le narrazioni che la collegano direttamente al flamenco appartengono al mito: utili come simboli, non come fatti documentati.L'evoluzione della musica di Al Andalus nel mondo arabo generò le forme della nūba in Nord Africa  e della wasla in Medio Oriente.Nūba (plurale nūbāt) significa “turno” o “successione”: è una suite musicale colta della tradizione di al-Andalus trasmessa nel Maghreb, costruita su un maqām (modalità musicale) con sezioni ritmiche (mīzān/wazn) che cambiano e spesso accelerano. Wasla (plurale waslat) significa “connessione” o “sequenza”: indica un concerto o suite della tradizione classica araba orientale, centrata su un maqām, concatenazione di brani strumentali/vocali, introdotta tramite dulab, un fenomeno paragonabile al compas. Il compas è un modo di esprimere la frase ritmica e gli accordi principali della chitarra inun paricolare genere flamenco, il dulab esprime l'atmosfera musicale di un maqam attraverso un motivetto orecchiabile e facile da ricordare, che si ripete più volte nel concerto, a ricordare il tema ai partecipanti.Interessante nella Wasla è l'uso di improvvisazioni vocali: il Layālī (lett. o notti) che gioca sulla improvvisazione su due parole, ya leil ya ain (o notte o occhio) da cui la salida del cante flamenco è stata molto influenzata (soprattutto tiento e tango) e il Mawwāl, un canto poetico con melodia improvvisata, che ricorda un fandango grande, di melodia più libera.E anche del Taqsīm, improvvisazione strumentaleStrumenti tipici del complesso di musica, il Takht, sono: liuto arabo (ūd), flauto nay, la cetra qanūn, il violino kamanja o rababa, tamburelli (deff o riqq) e tamburi a cornice, la voce solista e il coroSpesso si definisce “musica arabo-andalusa” qualche concerto in cui musicisti arabi e flamenchi mescolano repertori, includendo brani famosi di musicisti arabi contemporanei o canzoni modaiole, con pezzi di “fusione”. Alla fusione dedicherò un altro episodio.Sono Sabina Todaro mi occupo di flamenco e danze e musiche del monndo arabo dal 1985. Dal 1990 insegno a Milano baile flamenco e Lyrical Arab Dance, un lavoro ull'espressione delle emozioni attraverso le danze e le musiche del mondo arabo.In conclusione: le storie su Ziryāb e sulla continuità diretta fra l'arte arabo-andalusa e il flamenco appartengono al mito: utili come simboli, non come fatti documentati. La musica arabo-andalusa è un ponte fra culture e tempi, non una linea ininterrotta. E tutto ciò pone le basi per comprendere anche le influenze che, nel tempo, hanno arricchito tradizioni come il flamenco.

Emmanuel, que trabalha há 31 anos nos esgotos de Paris, levou a RFI a fazer uma visita guiada ao Museus dos Esgotos, no 7º bairro, falando sobre as características únicas deste sistema e da sua profissão. Paris, a cidade Luz, a cidade da Torre Eiffel, a cidade da moda, a cidade do luxo e também, a cidade com uma das redes de esgotos mais complexa e interessante do Mundo. Alguns metros abaixo da superfície, há 2.600 quilómetros de esgotos que criam uma cidade subterrânea, com 30 mil pontos de acesso espalhados por toda a capital. Desde a Idade Média, que os parisienses se deparam com o problema do que fazer aos seus dejectos, tendo sido criadas entre os séculos XIII e XV as primeiras fossas sépticas abertas. Mais tarde, já no período do Renascimento até ao século XVIII, com mais consciência sobre o efeito das doenças e das pragas que assolavam de tempos a tempos, foram construídos os primeiros esgotos subterrâneos, mas ainda a uma escala muito limitada. Foi sob as ordens de Napoleão III, já no século XIX, e após uma epidemia de cólera que matou milhares de pessoas, que o Barão de Haussman, um homem que mudou a face de Paris para sempre modernizando a cidade, decidiu criar uma verdadeira rede de esgotos, aliando-se ao engenheiro Eugène Belgrand, que imagina uma rede de esgotos que duplicaria a cidade em profundidade e que seria facilmente acessível aos trabalhadores dos esgotos. Assim, desde a segunda metade do século XIX, Paris tem um sistema de esgotos muitos próprios, e quem visita actualmente Paris pode ir ao Museu dos Esgotos, onde para além de saber mais sobre a história desta infra-estrutura megalómana, pode ver como funciona já que se trata de uma verdadeira estação de triagem dsa águas, como nos explicou Emmanuel, que trabalha há 31 anos nos esgotos da capital francesa e que comandou uma visita guiada em que a RFI participou. “O Museu dos Esgotos de Paris é interessante exactamente porque se trata, em parte, de uma estrutura a que chamamos uma galeria húmida ligada aos esgotos. Logo, se chover, por exemplo, muitas vezes temos de tirar as pessoas do museu porque ele está construído de forma a ser inundado cumprindo a sua função principal que é retenção das águas, ou seja, que a água não vá toda directamente para o rio Sena e possa causar inundações. Portanto, aqui, vemos, ouvimos e cheiramos as águas dos esgotos e, que eu saiba, este é um museu único no Mundo” E também estes esgotos são únicos, com características muito próprias. “Os esgotos de Paris são visitáveis, funcionam através da gravidade e são unitários. Isto faz do nosso sistema de esgotos algo único no Mundo, mesmo os esgotos de Nova Iorque ou até de Londres não têm estas três características. Graças a isso, recebemos aqui muitas delegações estrangeiras que vêm estudar o nosso sistema, no entanto, este é um sistema atípico, já que é muito antigo. Hoje, por exemplo, quando se quer construir um novo sistema, faz-se a separação entre as águas residuais e as águas limpas e o nosso é um único sistema” A capital francesa conta com cerca de 300 trabalhadores apenas dedicados a este sistema intrincado, entre homens e mulheres, muitos deles com longas carreiras como é o caso de Emmanuel. “Eu sou chefe de saneamento nos esgotos, actualmente trabalho no Museu e sou bastante polivalente. Faço tudo que há para fazer aqui” A cidade de Paris contava em 2022 com uma população de mais de 2 milhões e 100 mil pessoas, logo, os esgotos são uma parte essencial, mas invisível da cidade. Vemos, às vezes, os seus trabalhadores descerem numa das 30 mil bocas de esgotos espalhadas pela capital, mas só raramente é que os parisienses se questionam o que fazem verdadeiramente as pessoas que trabalham nos esgotos. “Nós temos o hábito de sermos discretos, quando eu comecei a trabalhar nos esgotos, há 31 anos, comecei nos esgotos domésticos, mais pequenos, na limpeza. O esquema dos esgotos faz parte dessas inovações e tornou-se um exemplo no Mundo” Ainda hoje, esta é uma profissão que passa de pai para filho e que continua a atrair jovens, apesar de ser um trabalho muitas vezes meticuloso e pesado fisicamente. “A nossa profissão ainda é atraente e interessante. Acabámos de recrutar cerca de 30 jovens entre 22 e 27 anos, que fizeram todo o processo de recrutamento e que percebem que temos uma profissão indispensável. Convido todos os jovens a olharem para esta carreira como uma opção porque é verdade que é uma profissão difícil, muito exigente fisicamente, mas também muito interessante” Encontrámos Emmanuel no âmbito do evento anual da cidade de Paris sobre as diferentes profissões necessárias e essenciais para o bom funcionamento da capital francesa. Car être impuissant, c'était risquer de perdre bien plus que sa virilité : son mariage, son honneur, et jusqu'à sa place dans la société.Tout commence avec la conception du mariage médiéval. Dans la chrétienté, le mariage n'était pleinement valide qu'à une condition : qu'il soit « consommé ». L'union charnelle était considérée comme la preuve ultime du consentement, le sceau visible de l'alliance. Sans rapport sexuel, le mariage était jugé incomplet, voire nul. Or, si un homme ne parvenait pas à remplir ce « devoir conjugal », son épouse pouvait demander l'annulation du mariage. Et pour trancher, on ne se contentait pas de témoignages : on jugeait l'impuissance… devant un tribunal.Ces tribunaux d'impuissance — apparus dès le XIIIᵉ siècle et répandus jusqu'à la fin de l'Ancien Régime — étaient saisis à la demande de l'épouse. L'homme accusé devait alors prouver qu'il était « capable ». La procédure, humiliante, prenait parfois des allures d'épreuve publique. On convoquait des médecins, des sages-femmes, voire des prêtres pour examiner l'anatomie du mari. Et, dans les cas les plus extrêmes, le juge ordonnait une « épreuve de congrès » : le couple devait avoir un rapport sexuel devant témoins pour démontrer la virilité de l'époux. Quand on évoque les grandes civilisations précolombiennes, deux noms surgissent immédiatement : les Mayas et les Incas. Pourtant, si elles ont toutes deux marqué l'histoire de l'Amérique, elles sont très différentes dans leur localisation, leur organisation et leurs héritages.Les Mayas apparaissent bien avant les Incas. Leur civilisation se développe dès 2000 avant notre ère, dans les forêts tropicales du Yucatán, au sud du Mexique, ainsi qu'au Guatemala, au Belize et au Honduras actuels. Les Incas, eux, émergent beaucoup plus tard, au XIIIᵉ siècle, dans la cordillère des Andes, principalement au Pérou. Cette différence chronologique explique déjà un contraste : quand l'empire inca atteint son apogée au XVe siècle, les grandes cités mayas étaient déjà abandonnées depuis longtemps.Sur le plan politique, le contraste est frappant. Les Mayas n'avaient pas un empire unifié mais une mosaïque de cités-États indépendantes, comme Tikal, Palenque ou Copán, qui rivalisaient entre elles par des guerres et des alliances. Les Incas, au contraire, fondèrent un empire centralisé : le Tawantinsuyu. Depuis Cuzco, l'empereur, appelé le Sapa Inca, exerçait un pouvoir absolu sur des millions de sujets et un territoire immense s'étendant de la Colombie jusqu'au Chili.Sur le plan culturel, les Mayas brillèrent surtout par leur écriture et leurs connaissances scientifiques. Ils développèrent un système d'écriture hiéroglyphique complexe, unique en Amérique, qui permettait de noter aussi bien des événements politiques que des récits mythologiques. Ils élaborèrent également un calendrier extrêmement précis, basé sur l'astronomie, et laissèrent des monuments impressionnants comme les pyramides de Chichén Itzá. Les Incas, eux, ne connaissaient pas l'écriture. Pour conserver la mémoire des tributs ou des recensements, ils utilisaient les quipus, des cordelettes nouées dont les combinaisons servaient de code numérique. Leur génie s'exprima surtout dans l'ingénierie : routes pavées traversant les Andes, ponts suspendus, systèmes d'irrigation et villes perchées comme Machu Picchu.Enfin, leurs religions différaient. Les Mayas pratiquaient des rituels sanglants pour apaiser leurs dieux, y compris des sacrifices humains. Les Incas, eux, adoraient surtout Inti, le dieu Soleil, et considéraient l'empereur comme son descendant direct. Leurs sacrifices humains existaient, mais étaient plus rares et souvent réservés à des moments exceptionnels.En somme, les Mayas furent des astronomes et des scribes brillants, mais fragmentés politiquement. Les Incas, eux, bâtirent un empire solide et organisé, mais sans écriture.
