A (relatively) in-depth analysis of the song Love My Way (and The Psychedelic Furs) in (just under) fifteen minutes. The Psychedelic Furs formed in London in 1977. Led by vocalist Richard Butler and his brother Tim on bass, they are one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. The band had several hits in their early career. Pretty in Pink was originally released in 1981 as a single from their second album, Talk Talk Talk. John Hughes' 1986 film was named after the song and a re-recorded version of the song was included on its soundtrack.Love My Way was released in 1982 as the first single from their third album Forever Now. Written by the group and produced by Todd Rundgren, who also played marimba, the song featured backing vocals from Flo & Eddie (Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan of The Turtles). Although it scraped into the top 50 in the UK Singles Chart, Love My Way was featured in the 1983 film Valley Girl.It also appears on the soundtracks of the 1998 film The Wedding Singer and the 2006 film Starter for 10. After it was heard in the 2017 film Call Me by Your Name, the song enjoyed a surge in streaming popularity. It was also featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.In this episode I am in discussion with Dr. Andrew Webber.I hope you enjoy the podcast and please do leave feedback if you like what you you have heard.Mathew Woodall

The Zone of Interest angeschaut. On this weeks episode, we dig into the second album by the Psychedelic Furs, Talk, Talk, Talk. Starting as so many other young UK bands did in mid-1970s, the Psychedelic Furs got inspired after seeing the Sex Pistols. They met with almost immediate success, and were talked about n the same breadth as U2 as the next big thing. They even shared the same produce - famed British producer, Steve Lillywhite, who helped them refine their sound on their first two albums. While Talk, Talk, Talk was not their most successful album, it is widely adored by their fans and the press as the best expression of their post-punk, guitar-centric wall of sound.

Hosted by Andrew Keen, Keen On features conversations with some of the world's leading thinkers and writers about the economic, political, and technological issues being discussed in the news, right now. In this episode, Andrew is joined by Kimberly Wolf, author of Talk with Her: A Dad's Essential Guide to Raising Healthy, Confident, and Capable Daughters. Kimberly Wolf, M.Ed., is an educator, speaker, and educational consultant with an undergraduate degree in gender studies from Brown University and a master's degree in human development and psychology from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Her experiences growing up in Los Angeles and attending an all-girls school sparked her passion for equipping girls with the wisdom and skills they need to succeed in all areas of life during the school years and beyond. Fifteen years into her career, through conversations with friends, colleagues, and collaborators who were fathers of daughters, Wolf realized she was in a unique position to demystify girlhood for dads, helping them communicate better with their daughters, maximize their parental impact, and inspire young women to reach their potential. In addition to being an expert in her field, she is also a daughter with a deep personal belief in the transformative power of strong father-daughter relationships. Talk with Her is her first book. Ilan Rubin Is a drummer in the rock n roll hall of fame band Nine inch Nails! He is also the the drummer (and co writer of many songs) for the Tom Delonge fronted band Angels and Airwaves. On top of that, he's released a ton of music as The New Regime as well as under Ilan Rubin PLUS he's worked with Paramore! Words do not do him justice! Ilan knew at a very young age, well before 10 years old, that he wanted to pursue music professionally. This episode is a very fun ride on how he was able to make it happen! Recently he's been practicing less because he's busy scoring films now, including Tom Delonge's new movie "Monsters of California". When asked about the greatest bands of all time, Ilan tells Stryker The Beatles are the best song writers while Led Zeppelin is the best band. In March of 2020, under his band name The New Regime, Ilan says he put out his best work and was also on the road touring with Silversun Pickups, sadly, all of that came to a halt due to Covid. Stryker and Ilan chat about his career as a solo artist compared to that as a member of both Nine Inch Nails and Angels and Airwaves. Everything from the style of music to the difference in transportation from show to show (super nice bus vs small van). The guys discuss two of the more recent Ilan Rubin released songs, "Talk Talk Talk" and "Chaos in Motion". Stryker believes they would have sounded great in the movie Licorice Pizza directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The guys discuss where Ilan's music fits in, as well as Ilan's take on songwriting, producers, and bands who simply copy an old formula He thinks data is the biggest thing to ruin music since the streaming world started. Artists are getting signed based off one tik tok song which is making it much harder to find legacy bands. The guys then have an animated chat about new music and new music on the radio and how radio in general can be better. Ilan tells Stryker about his audition to become the drummer for Nine Inch Nails, Ilan was only 19 years old! THIS IS WILD! It was shocking to hear that his time with Paramore was the first time he was in a band with people his age or younger! Stryker asks Ilan about his working relationship with Tom Delonge and what it's like writing songs with Tom. This is one of the most fun episodes to date, music is in great hands with Ilan Rubin. Thanks as always for checking out the show!
