There's a video that exists before any of this happened, where d4vd plays a character dragging a body into a car. Prosecutors are now alleging he did the real version of that scene to a fourteen-year-old, and tonight we sit with what that overlap actually means. David Burke's story starts small. Homeschooled, recording in his sister's closet, building an audience in Fortnite lobbies. Prosecutors say that's where he met Celeste Rivas Hernandez, both of them still teenagers, and the connection continued for years without anyone in either of their lives stepping in. At seventeen, newly signed to Darkroom and Interscope, Burke introduced an alter ego, Itami, the Japanese word for pain, an agent of chaos wearing a blindfold, built from a manga concept about a detective whose double commits the murders he investigates. He put that character on camera holding a knife, taking a woman's arm. Then the physical evidence entered the record. Investigators matched cuts on an inflatable pool in Burke's garage to fragments found on Celeste's leggings. DNA connected the Tesla and the home directly to her. A criminalist testified about real blood scrubbed from the garage near shelves of fake blood used for props. Cell tower data placed the Tesla in Santa Barbara County three times in the weeks after she allegedly died. She was fourteen when she went to his home on April 23, 2025, and was never heard from again. Her remains surfaced in his Tesla months later, the day after what would have been her fifteenth birthday. Burke has pleaded not guilty. It's three days of panels, parties, contests, vendors, celebrity guests, live music -- everything you could want as a horror fan. This will be my sixth year hosting panels at the convention, but I've been going to Flashback much longer than just these six years. I love it.This year's Flashback features a salute to 30 years of the Scream franchise, celebrates Halloween II, a Night of the Creeps reunion, features first-time Flashback appearances from Henry Thomas, Steven Weber, and the Silent Night, Deadly Night Santas, and even has Obsession co-star Megan Lawless making her convention debut (I get to host her panel on Sunday! Come on out!). Plus, this year sees the world premiere of a brand new Full Moon movie (relevant to my interests!), in-costume photo opps, Alan Howarth playing the score to Halloween II LIVE along with the film, a tribute to Svengoolie (the greatest horror host of all time), and so much more.One of my favorite things about Flashback -- besides all the cool guests and the chance to spend the weekend surrounded by horror stuff and horror fans -- is that it's a family-run convention and really feels that way.
