Although most perished, hundreds of thousands of Central European Jews escaped the Holocaust; tens of thousands of these Jewish refugees ended up in East Asia, Southeast Asia, or South Asia. Taking a global and transnational approach, German-Speaking Jewish Refugees in Asia, 1930-1950 (Routledge, 2025) examines the cultural, political, and socioeconomic encounters among and between Asian and European states and empires, Central European Jews, and Asians between 1930 and 1950, offering important case studies that address the policies toward and experiences of German-speaking Jews across East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. The strength of this volume lies not only in its efforts to include multiple theoretical perspectives, which integrate German, Jewish, Asian, and Migration Studies, but also in the original empirical research on which it is based. Engaging directly with the rich and growing historiography on the origins, course, and consequences of the Holocaust in East, Southeast, and South Asia, this volume provides a framework in which we can better understand how global traditions of empire and colonialism matter in our efforts to understand the Holocaust, while indicating that Asian states and peoples were keenly aware of the so-called "Jewish Question" and made efforts, though widely differentiated, to provide shelter from the Nazi storm. German-Speaking Jewish Refugees in Asia, 1930-1950 will appeal to students and scholars alike interested in the history of Jewish refugees in the twentieth century, as well as all those interested in the modern history of German-speaking Central Europe and Asia. Spreading protest-riots in the UK, particularly in Northern Ireland and England, are evidence that the common people are no longer going to ignore illegal immigration. Of course the media has painted these people as being ‘far-right', anti-immigration, xenophobic, and racist. And of course, when people are worked up there is little distinguishing between what is legal and illegal immigration. As the public globally begins to resist the UN push of ‘replacement migration' (seen here: https://press.un.org/en/2000/20000317.dev2234.doc.html), which might stem fro the 1992 WHO report on FRVs (seen here: https://iris.who.int/handle/10665/61301), there is a slowly developing realization that one particular group is running the operation, at least in the US and UK. This is HIAS, whose motto is ‘welcome the stranger, protect the refugee', founded to assist Jews fleeing pogroms in Europe. This Jewish group, if made the focus of the immigration issue, will likely lead to rapid deterioration of Jewish relations in every country experiencing these problems. But where did these pogroms originate from and why were they so prevalent anywhere Jewish immigrants arrived - especially before the internet? In the 1930s it became obvious that communists, who were put into POW camps, and most illegal immigrates in Germany, were Jewish. This lead the Nazi party to initially attempt to remove these immigrants through encouragement, something admitted by the Holocaust Encyclopedia: “When the Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933, they did not have a plan to murder the Jews of Europe…. Mass murder was not the Nazis' first solution to the ‘Jewish Question.' In fact, the Nazis experimented with a variety of anti-Jewish policies and plans. For example, throughout the 1930s, they tried to force Jews to emigrate.” As time went on, we got German riots, we got a world war, and as supplies dried up, many of the POW and Immigration facilities turned into death camps due to lack of food, exposure to elements, and Typhus when there was a lacking of pesticides. Today we see democrats in full favor of this illegal immigration, perverting sexuality, abortion, and holding anti-western sentiment, supported financially more than republicans by Israel. 50% of all Democrat money comes from Jews: the gay capital of the world is Tel Aviv, HIAS runs the illegal immigration, Democrats love abortion like the Talmud talks about killing gentiles, and as Winston Churchill said, this is a “worldwide conspiracy” by the same group of people “for the overthrow of civilisation.” When people are put into a box with offensive labeling, eventually the box breaks, and when that damn breaks the water is going to start a war when public anger is directed at a singular source: the Jew. Formerly Le Monde's guy in Jerusalem, Piotr Smolar is now the senior correspondent for Le Monde in Washington, DC. He is also the grandson of Hersh Smolar, one of the 20th century's more remarkable men. As Smolar notes in Bad Jew, the astonishing story of his grandfather's life from Stalin's Russia & the Minsk Ghetto to Netanyahu's Israel, there was, in fact, nothing particularly bad about Hersh Smolar. What was bad was history - the genocidal forces in Nazi Germany & the Soviet Union which Smolar fought against - both as an anti-fascist soldier and as a Polish communist. And then there's the Jewish Question, also know today as the Israel Question, with which both Smolars are all-too-familiar. Indeed, Smolar's important new book should probably have been entitled: Bad Jew Grandfathers & Bad Jew Grandsons. Piotr Smolar is a French journalist of Polish origin. He is the senior correspondent for Le Monde in Washington, DC. After working in Moscow from 1997 to 2001, he published a book in French on Russia's heartland, Gloubinka. He extensively covered Russia's neighboring countries, before becoming Le Monde's correspondent in Jerusalem (2014–2019). Bad Jew is his first book to appear in English.Named as one of the "100 most connected men" by GQ magazine, Andrew Keen is amongst the world's best known broadcasters and commentators. Spreading protest-riots in the UK, particularly in Northern Ireland and England, are evidence that the common people are no longer going to ignore illegal immigration. Of course the media has painted these people as being ‘far-right', anti-immigration, xenophobic, and racist. And of course, when people are worked up there is little distinguishing between what is legal and illegal immigration. As the public globally begins to resist the UN push of ‘replacement migration' (seen here: https://press.un.org/en/2000/20000317.dev2234.doc.html), which might stem fro the 1992 WHO report on FRVs (seen here: https://iris.who.int/handle/10665/61301), there is a slowly developing realization that one particular group is running the operation, at least in the US and UK. This is HIAS, whose motto is ‘welcome the stranger, protect the refugee', founded to assist Jews fleeing pogroms in Europe. This Jewish group, if made the focus of the immigration issue, will likely lead to rapid deterioration of Jewish relations in every country experiencing these problems. But where did these pogroms originate from and why were they so prevalent anywhere Jewish immigrants arrived - especially before the internet? In the 1930s it became obvious that communists, who were put into POW camps, and most illegal immigrates in Germany, were Jewish. This lead the Nazi party to initially attempt to remove these immigrants through encouragement, something admitted by the Holocaust Encyclopedia: “When the Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933, they did not have a plan to murder the Jews of Europe…. Mass murder was not the Nazis' first solution to the ‘Jewish Question.' In fact, the Nazis experimented with a variety of anti-Jewish policies and plans. For example, throughout the 1930s, they tried to force Jews to emigrate.” As time went on, we got German riots, we got a world war, and as supplies dried up, many of the POW and Immigration facilities turned into death camps due to lack of food, exposure to elements, and Typhus when there was a lacking of pesticides. Today we see democrats in full favor of this illegal immigration, perverting sexuality, abortion, and holding anti-western sentiment, supported financially more than republicans by Israel. 50% of all Democrat money comes from Jews: the gay capital of the world is Tel Aviv, HIAS runs the illegal immigration, Democrats love abortion like the Talmud talks about killing gentiles, and as Winston Churchill said, this is a “worldwide conspiracy” by the same group of people “for the overthrow of civilisation.” When people are put into a box with offensive labeling, eventually the box breaks, and when that damn breaks the water is going to start a war when public anger is directed at a singular source: the Jew. What I am asking you today is not a trick question, it is a sincere one, but it has been a question that has snared a lot of people over quite a few millennia. In the end of the 19th century and well into the 20th, a debate raged in Europe over what they called the ‘Jewish question' which was nothing more than overt antisemitism disguised as intellectual discussion. Adolf Hitler took a shot at answering this question, so did Henry Ford and a whole lot of other people. Christian, today we will shall see how well you answer this most important question. The Jew has outlasted and survived their enemies in ancient Egypt, the Philistines, the Assyrian, Babylonian, Persian, Greek, Roman and Byzantine empires, the Roman Catholic Crusaders, the Spanish empires, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Not only that, in the last world war that was fought over the Jews and the ‘Jewish Question', it resulted in the establishment of a Jewish homeland on the exact spot they were driven out from 1,878 years earlier. As you read this article today, the Jew and the ‘Jewish Question' is once again the main topic of conversation on the global stage as nations chose sides in the war between Israel and Hamas. Daniel Boyarin's new book The No-State Solution: A Jewish Manifesto (Yale University Press, 2023) is a provocative anti-Zionist manifesto pleading for a new understanding of Jewish peoplehood and sketching an alternative vision for a Jewish future beyond the nation-state: the Diaspora nation. He aims to drive a wedge between the "nation" and the "state," only very recently conjoined, and recover a robust sense of nationalism that does not involve sovereignty. Professor emeritus of Talmudic culture at the University of California, Berkeley, Daniel Boyarin has been one of the most influential and paradigm-shifting scholars in Jewish Studies generally and of rabbinic culture and the study of Judaism and Christianity specifically. Then, Catherine Liu joins as she gets right into helping define what the Professional Managerial Class (PMC) is, their role in executing the bosses' orders and managing our social institutions, and how they came to take the mantle of liberal vanguardists, dominating the ideology of the democratic party over their blue-collar counterparts. Next, they parse through the PMC's relationship to, and bolstering of the systems of capitalism, taking the benefits of much more social mobility than the working class and a feeling of superiority to physical laborers for their endorsement of capitalism and its modes of rationality, exploring its development starting at the end of the ‘60s and progressing through the neoliberal era as PMCs moved into suburbs and left the industrial world behind, with public discourse shifting to cultural critiques and allowing them to rest on their laurels above the dirty blue-collar world. Liu and Binder also tackle the growing split between generations of PMC, with the full financialization of college crippling incoming laborers with debt before they can even enter the workforce while the illusion of college-educated superiority remains necessary for the PMC's obsession with status, before wrapping up by walking through the growing striations of the professional classes, the difference between general white-collar workers and professional managers, and whether the PMC can trust socialism's version of a rising tide lifting all boats. As early as 1933, Hitler and the Nazis - the National Socialist German Worker's Party - began passing a series of discriminatory laws against Jews— inch by inch, chipping away at their freedoms. They took away their property. Their ability to practice certain jobs or exist in public places. They took away their ability to own pets or walk around without a badge identifying them as Jews.And they did all this while the world watched. While everyone hoped that maybe they'd finally just stop with all their mindless hate. But instead, they just kept pushing it further, and further, and further. Soon, the Nazi's began deporting Jews. Sending them out of Germany and to various labor camps. Then, the plan changed from one of deportation to genocide, and concentration camps were constructed to efficiently kill massive amounts of people. The majority of people deported to these new death camps were transported in cattle wagons. These wagons - traveling along train tracks - didn't have water, food, a toilet, or ventilation. Sometimes there weren't enough cars for a major transport, so victims waited at a switching yard, often with standing room only, for several days. Stewing in their own filth, fear, confusion and hunger. Sometimes, when the train made it to the concentration camp, and the transport doors were opened, everyone inside was already dead.
