Every company promotes its best people into leadership, then sets them adrift with zero tools to actually lead. Tess Fyalka has spent 25 years cleaning up that mess. She's the founder of Angle Coaching & Communication, author of Walking the Leadership Ledge, and spent nearly a decade building leadership development infrastructure inside a mid-size commercial construction company before going independent. Two thousand ghostwritten articles and white papers later, she pulled the patterns into a book.In this conversation, Bill and Tess take on the promotion trap that quietly wrecks teams, the lie new leaders tell themselves to avoid hard conversations, and what it actually takes for a star individual contributor to become a real leader of people. Tess walks through "Betsy" — the kind of high-performer companies promote because they assume excellence is transferable, then watch flame out when the wheels come off the bus. She names the Big Lie directly: when a leader avoids a difficult conversation to "protect" their team member, they're really protecting themselves. And the cost of that avoidance compounds. They get into the inside-out nature of leadership development: you can't lead others well until you know your own values, your triggers, and what you're choosing to be in the role. Tess shares her BRRR framework for difficult conversations and why the imaginary scenarios in your head are almost never how the conversation actually plays out. Bill brings his own moments of getting it wrong, including the time he caught himself reflexively defending micromanagement. They close on the metaphor that gives the book its title: when you step into a new leadership role, you're standing on a ledge, and you don't know yet whether the drop is ten inches or ten thousand feet.In This Episode:Why the skills that earn a promotion actively work against you as a managerThe "Big Lie" ineffective leaders tell themselves to avoid hard conversations"Delengaging" — Tess's framework for delegating through genuine engagementThe Betsy problem: what happens when companies promote excellence and expect it to transferHow nearly a decade in commercial construction proved leadership development works anywhereWhy most delegation is really just dumping — and how to tell the differenceAbout the Book:Walking the Leadership Ledge: The "New" Leaders' Guide to Building Resilience and Confidence at Every Step. About the book- The Big Lie: Exposing the Nazi Roots of the American Left by Dinesh D'Souza https://www.amazon.com/Big-Lie-Exposing-Roots-American/dp/1621573486 "Of course, everything [D'Souza] says here is accurate... But it's not going to sit well with people on the American left who, of course, are portraying themselves as the exact opposite of all of this." —RUSH LIMBAUGH The explosive new book from Dinesh D'Souza, author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers Hillary's America, America, and Obama's America. What is "the big lie" of the Democratic Party? That conservatives—and President Donald Trump in particular—are fascists. Nazis, even. In a typical comment, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow says the Trump era is reminiscent of "what it was like when Hitler first became chancellor." But in fact, this audacious lie is a complete inversion of the truth. Yes, there is a fascist threat in America—but that threat is from the Left and the Democratic Party. The Democratic left has an ideology virtually identical with fascism and routinely borrows tactics of intimidation and political terror from the Nazi Brownshirts. To cover up their insidious fascist agenda, Democrats loudly accuse President Trump and other Republicans of being Nazis—an obvious lie, considering the GOP has been fighting the Democrats over slavery, genocide, racism and fascism from the beginning. Now, finally, Dinesh D'Souza explodes the Left's big lie. He expertly exonerates President Trump and his supporters, then uncovers the Democratic Left's long, cozy relationship with Nazism: how the racist and genocidal acts of early Democrats inspired Adolf Hitler's campaign of death; how fascist philosophers influenced the great 20th century lions of the American Left; and how today's anti-free speech, anti-capitalist, anti-religious liberty, pro-violence Democratic Party is a frightening simulacrum of the Nazi Party. Hitler coined the term "the big lie" to describe a lie that "the great masses of the people" will fall for precisely because of how bold and monstrous the lie is. In The Big Lie, D'Souza shows that the Democratic Left's orchestrated campaign to paint President Trump and conservatives as Nazis to cover up its own fascism is, in fact, the biggest lie of all.

Hitler's Big Lie found fresh expression with Hamas supporters claiming the absurdity that Israel is perpetrating genocide in its right to defend itself, executed in a legal and humane way. An accusation launched by none other than an organization that has in its charter and all of its rhetoric the desire to destroy Israel and every Jew living therein. In this episode we explore how Hitler and the Nazi propaganda machine utilized the "big lie" with incredible effectiveness. Whereas the virtuous woman is extolled for being an individual that may always be trusted, we conclude with a chilling story highlighting that the word of honor of one not committed to truth, is a mockery of honor. Parsha “Behar” (Leviticus chapters 25, essentially) is one of the shortest in the annual reading cycle. Certainly one of the most ignored. And, as Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship shows pretty clearly, it’s one that we NEVER should have pretended was “done away with.” Yes, verse 10 is in fact inscribed on the Liberty Bell, which only helps make the omission more poignant. And there are even some words in here that, transliterated, even sound a bit familiar. Like, “Jubliee,” from the 50 year (7×7+1) cycle know in Hebrew as ‘yovel.’ The Erev Shabbat reading lays out the specifics of the “sevens” of years, and the seven-sevens: https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/SSM-5-22-26-Behar-teaching-podcast-xxx.mp3 But it’s not just the Big Lie that the “Old” Testament has so much outdated stuff that’s been ‘done away with.’ It’s that the system of dishonest weights, and “money” that is nothing but debt, which multiplies without end, is pure slavery, with no Jubilee reprieve. Whether the banksters and fake priests of the world admit it or not, if YHVH’s Reset doesn’t happen every fifty years or so, His Great Reset will happen eventually, without fail. And the irony of those who claim, “I am NOT “under the Law,” while being in bondage to a level of debt slavery the likes of which the world has never before seen, is not just palpable — it’s terminal. Brad and Dan show up wired, sleep-deprived, and ready to go, breaking down a week where the absurd somehow outpaced the outrageous. They start with a surreal clip of Donald Trump reflecting on his son's wedding before diving straight into the heart of the episode: a massive DOJ–IRS settlement that includes a $1.8 billion “slush fund” ostensibly for victims of government “weaponization.” The hosts trace how this fund is likely to benefit January 6 participants and allies, connecting it to the long-running “Big Lie” and what Brad calls real-time myth-making. Along the way, they unpack how narratives about January 6 have shifted from condemnation to celebration—and what it means when those narratives are backed by real money and political power. From there, the conversation widens to the broader ecosystem of Trumpism: primary victories that show Trump still holds sway, the endorsement of scandal-plagued figures like Ken Paxton, and the ongoing fusion of political loyalty with religious justification. The episode closes with a sharp critique of billionaire logic, as Jeff Bezos defends his tax record and “value to civilization,” prompting a deeper discussion about inequality, power, and what counts as public good. Even in the midst of it all, Brad and Dan find a few reasons for hope, pointing to court losses for the DOJ and small but meaningful acts of accountability—reminders that resistance, however incremental, is still possible. In Episode 334 of The Higher Standard, Chris and Saied give Jerome “Transitory” Powell the only farewell THS knows how: part tribute, part roast, part macro autopsy. From his final FOMC press conference and the fight over Fed independence to inflation, oil shocks, AI job losses, recession-level consumer pain, credit card delinquencies, and an overcooked stock market, this episode breaks down why the economy feels broken even while the suits keep calling it “resilient.” Powell may be leaving the mic, but the money printer's legacy is still sitting on America's balance sheet.
From the publisher:"Esteemed presidential historian Stephen F. Knott takes readers on a sobering tour of the lowlights in the American presidency, showing how presidents from Thomas Jefferson to Donald Trump have engaged in reckless conspiracy-mongering about their political opponents in an effort to increase their power and privilege.Today we are inundated with conspiracy theories—QAnon, the “Big Lie,” Pizzagate, the Epstein Files, and innumerable false claims about vaccines and other medicines. But the widespread proliferation of lies and misinformation can make it easy to forget that conspiracy theories have been part of American life from the beginning. The land of the free and the home of the brave has also been the den of false rumors and conspiratorial claims about one's political enemies—not merely by rank-and-file Americans but also by our most powerful and consequential elected leaders. As political historian Stephen F. Knott recounts in painful detail, the Commander in Chief of the United States has often acted as Conspirator in Chief.Part presidential history and part descent into a political Dante's Inferno, Conspirator in Chief is a tour through the Hall of Shame in American politics. Thomas Jefferson used surrogates to spread false claims about Alexander Hamilton in order to destroy his political influence, attacked newspaper editors who were critical of his party and policies, and used conspiracy theories about the Federalists to tarnish them in the eyes of the American people. This brand of demagoguery reached an apex in the presidency of Andrew Jackson, who publicly defamed abolitionists, manipulated newspapers to publish his conspiracies, and spread his own “Big Lie” about the 1824 election being stolen from him in a “corrupt bargain.” Andrew Johnson spread false accusations about the Radical Republicans, declared the need for “white emancipation,” and made spurious claims about the dangers of a coming Black supremacy as a result of Reconstruction. Woodrow Wilson, according to Knott, continued Johnson's racist and conspiratorial interpretation of American history. In addition to our most infamous presidents, Knott uncovers the surprising conspiratorial inclinations of our more esteemed leaders, including Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Harry S Truman. Knott shows how both presidents painted their opponents in an extreme light, casting aspersions on political rivals by calling them “betrayers of America,” “spies, saboteurs, and traitors,” and comparing them to Nazis, fascists, and communists. Less surprising are the presidencies of Richard Nixon and Donald J. Trump, both known for their propagation of racist and paranoid beliefs and their denigration of political opponents. As Knott demonstrates in excruciating detail, Trump epitomizes the worst of this long American tradition. While Trump is in a league of his own regarding the sheer output and outlandishness of his conspiracy-mongering, he did not begin this odious practice."Information on Dr. Knott's book can be found at https://kansaspress.ku.edu/9780700641284/His website can be found at https://www.stephenfknott.com/AxelbankHistory.com is designed by https://www.ellieclairedesigns.com/Axelbank Reports History and Today" can be found on social media at https://twitter.com/axelbankhistoryhttps://instagram.com/axelbankhistoryhttps://facebook.com/axelbankhistory
Dry dropper is great. Just put a nymph under that dry fly and get the best of both worlds. Right? Not so fast . . .The idea that you can have your cake and eat it too — that you'll get perfect drifts on the dry fly and the nymph — and that you somehow double your chances by dropping a nymph under the dry is not true. This is the big lie of dry dropper fishing. Here's the problem: In most cases, neither fly ends up with a great drift. Instead, both flies are compromised and their natural drift is altered. Picky trout don't buy sub-par drifts, so you'll only pick up the occasional lucky trout. But we can have good fishing with a dry dropper rig. It's a go to choice for a many anglers, and it's one of our favorite ways to fish a river. The point here is to acknowledge the problems with a dry dropper system — the inherent drawback — so we can then specifically deal with them or even get rid of them altogether. Know the problem and try to solve it.My good friends Bill Dell, Trevor Smith, Josh Darling, Austin Dando and Matt Grobe are here with me to talk about . . . the big lie of dry dropper.ResourcesREAD: Troutbitten | Three Styles of Dry DropperPODCAST: Troutbitten | Three Styles of Dry Dropper - Dry Dropper Skills SeriesVisitTroutbitten WebsiteTroutbitten InstagramTroutbitten YouTubeTroutbitten FacebookThanks to TroutRoutes:Use the code TROUTBITTEN for 20% off your membership athttps://maps.troutroutes.com Thanks to SkwalaUse the code, TROUTBITTEN10 for 10% off your order athttps://skwalafishing.com/

Mentor Sessions Ep. 067: The Big Lie Masking America's 50-Year Economic Collapse, Boomers Hoarding All Assets With No Buyers Left, and Why AI Demands Expertise| Michael Green & Jeffrey TuckerWhat if the problem isn't the policy — it's the system itself?Michael Green and Jeffrey A. Tucker sit down for a rare, wide-ranging conversation that cuts to the root of what's wrong with modern economics, monetary policy, and the assumptions most people never think to challenge. From the structural shifts that began in the mid-20th century to the invisible architecture of today's financial system, this discussion pulls back the curtain on ideas that mainstream economists refuse to touch. In this conversation, you'll learn why participation in the current financial system doesn't equal understanding of it, what economic data from 1950 reveals about where we are today, how the incentives baked into modern money shape behavior at every level of society, why Bitcoin represents a genuine alternative rather than just another asset, and what both Green and Tucker believe must change before any real economic reform is possible. If you've ever felt like the official explanations don't add up — this conversation will give you the framework to understand why.⏱️ Timestamps:00:00 - The Dual Income Trap: How Two Incomes Masked America's Decline00:01:02 - Introducing Michael Green & Jeffrey Tucker00:01:36 - Jeffrey Tucker: The Real Story Behind Household Income Stats00:06:33 - 1950 (20%) vs 1990s (65%): Rise of Dual Income Households00:10:05 - Michael Green on Expenses, Childcare & True Economic Health00:13:46 - $30,000/Year Childcare: The Hidden Cost Destroying Families00:17:41 - Golden Handcuffs: Corporate Jobs & Benefits Trap00:20:05 - Retirement System That Forces Boomer Asset Hoarding00:23:57 - Demographic Crisis: No Buyers Left for Boomer Assets00:27:28 - Housing Market Breakdown & Reverse Mortgages00:32:45 - Why Individualism Over Community Broke the System00:39:56 - Antitrust Failure, Consolidation & Real Capitalism00:42:33 - Corporate Consolidation Crushing Competition (Food, Healthcare, Tech)00:49:57 - Voluntary vs Coercive Exchanges: Capitalism's Hidden Flaw00:55:19 - COVID Mandates & Why Libertarianism Keeps Failing01:00:11 - How Intellectual Property Created Tech Monopolies01:02:48 - Michael Green on the Philadelphia Society01:05:13 - History of Women Entering the Labor Force01:17:02 - Future Outlook: Community Return & Economic Self-Correction01:22:25 - AI, Job Market Shifts & Deflationary Bust Warning
Parsha “Acharei Mot” (Leviticus chapters 16 through 18) begins, as it says up front, “After the Death” of the two sons of Aaron. But we see several other parshas, since then. Why is that noted here, and what does it mean? And two of those have had to do with a ‘plague’ that hasn’t been seen for centuries, at least. Most of us have also been told that the things described in THIS one, too, are “old testament,” and “done away with.” Arguably, it’s even MORE wrong here! Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a story that only begins there. And if you find the connections valuable, please forward the message to those who might be blessed by it. The Erev Shabbat reading lays out the story, beginning “after the death,” and tells us, over and over again, in fact, that the “statutes” described are to be “forever,” and even tells us the consequences of the Big Lie that they’re not: https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/SSM-5-2-26-Acharei-Mot-teaching-podcast-xx.mp3 The story tells us “after the death,” of Aarons sons, Nadab and Abihu, that there are things that must be done, in accord with His Instruction, so that those who do so, WHEN He says so, “die not.” And then it follows with the description of the “two goats,” one for YHVH, and the other for “Azazel.” It might seem that the ‘picture’ represented by the ritual is fairly clear, and yet it’s not a ‘perfect fit’ for what Yahushua did – for several reasons. Mark begins the Sabbath Day midrash with those, and the fact that most of what — in this instance, certainly — must be called what it is, now too often ignored. Even though He says it remains a “statute forever.” And says it three times even. Many people with a ‘sunday-school’ background will remember the line from Hebrews that “it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.” But they ignore the context, and the lesson of the distinction between sin committed “in ignorance” (Hebrews 9:7) and knowing and deliberate rebellion to Him. For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. Hebrews 10:26-27 This parsha then goes on to directly outline some of those things, which much of the world, and the ‘Whore Church’ which at minimum tacitly accepts, even promotes, YHVH warns about. Some — like things taught in the Publik Cesspools, and mandated by social pressures and tax subsidies — which are called “abomination,” and carry a death penalty. And they “defile the land,” which is why, He concludes, they were, and are, “vomited out” of it. We ‘cannot serve two masters.’ Which will it be? Acharei Mot: “When Does Continued Deliberate Sin In Ignorance Merit Being ‘Vomited Out’?” https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/WT-CooH-5-3-26-Acharei-Mot-Do-NOT-defile-statutes-FOREVER-podcast-xxx.mp3 Service information: Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship worship services and teachings are broadcast live every Sabbath, via Paltalk. When words turn into weapons, liberals start pulling triggers. President Trump goes on 60 Minutes after the press core dinner shooting, and he doesn't hold back answering Norah O'Donnell's questions. The media asks why this keeps happening, not looking in their own mirrors as the Conservative Circus brings out the vile receipts of the many times, they have spread hateful rhetoric towards the president that inspires these crazy shooters. Plus, example after example of media and "entertainment" figures piling the sentiment of hate then act shocked when something like another attempt on the President's life happens. Most of what the industry believes about digital retailing is wrong. Not because the technology isn't powerful. Not because innovation hasn't happened. But because we've been solving the wrong problem.I didn't write *Becoming a #DigitalRetailer* to celebrate technology or add another buzzword to a marketplace already drowning in them. I wrote it because somewhere along the way, automotive retail lost sight of the customer—and we covered that loss with tools, dashboards, and ideas that looked modern but didn't change a thing. For twenty-five years, I've watched the same cycle repeat itself:New software arrives.New processes are introduced.New promises are made. And in the middle of all that noise, nothing fundamental changes.Customers still hesitate.Deals still stall.Teams still work twice as hard to overcome friction that should never exist.---### The Real Problem Isn't TechnologyThe truth is simple:**We don't have a technology problem. We have a continuity problem.**The online experience doesn't match the in-store experience. The promise doesn't match the process. The tools don't align with the outcome. So every time a customer moves from one step to the next, the journey resets. And when the journey resets… momentum dies.---### What I Learned Changed EverythingThe first time I saw this clearly wasn't inside a top-performing dealership. It was inside one that didn't exist yet.A Toyota store still under construction—walls unfinished, floors incomplete, processes living on whiteboards. But in that unfinished space, something clicked:**If you design the experience correctly from the start, everything changes.**Customers move faster when the path is clear.Teams perform better when the structure earns their trust.Dealerships scale when the experience—not the software—becomes the product.---### The Illusion of “Digital Retailing”What we call digital retailing today isn't a revolution. It's a calculator with better design.Websites generate traffic, but not movement.Tools create data, but not momentum. And the moment a customer walks into the dealership, the entire experience starts over. That's not innovation. That's fragmentation.---### What This Book Is Really AboutThis book isn't about adding more tools. It's about designing something better. It's the story of:* How a sales process became an operating system* How tools became a connected ecosystem* How that ecosystem became a philosophy of retailAnd ultimately, how dealerships can eliminate friction instead of managing it.---### Why This Matters NowCustomer behavior is changing faster than most operations can adapt. The gap between what customers expect and what dealerships deliver is widening. And the dealerships that win won't be the ones with the most technology…They'll be the ones with the most **intentional experience**.---### Watch the OpeningI've included a short video version of the opening to the book below. It captures the foundation of everything that follows. If it resonates with you, you're already seeing the shift.---### Final ThoughtThe distance between an average dealership and an exceptional one isn't talent. It isn't budget. It isn't brand.**It's design.**And if you're building toward something better—something more connected, more intentional, more aligned—This book is for you.---#DigitalRetailer #Automotive #DealershipLife #CustomerExperience #Innovation #Intice
Think about a time you caught your partner withholding the truth. If you've been there, you know the actual lie is only half the battle; the other half is the agonizing feeling of thinking you might be going crazy. Today, we tackle one of the most difficult hurdles in any relationship: broken trust. Recently, Rachel's intuition flared up over a situation, and she pressed Mike for the truth, which he withheld. We map out the exact anatomy of this lie, discovering that Mike isn't a malicious deceiver, but a terrified partner who uses omission as the ultimate escape hatch when his fear of failing Rachel becomes unbearable. Witness the powerful shift when Mike finally takes accountability, and Rachel is hit with a flood of relief as she realizes she wasn't crazy to trust her own gut. As always, we want to hear from you. Parsha “Shemini,” (Leviticus chapters 9 through 11) is a ‘tour de force’ of what we have been told is “old testament” and “done away with,” and the reasons why that is such a satanic lie. The story starts on the Eighth (or ‘Shemini’) day where YHVH tells Moshe and Aaron and the elders of Israel what must be done, as Aaron and his sons are consecrated to be kohenim, priests to Him. Join Mark Call of Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship for a provocative two-part look at the parsha, and a discussion that will again, surprise some who have, like it or not, rejected His Word in favor of a pervasive Lie. And the Erev Shabbat reading lays that out in a manner that is hard to ignore: https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/SSM-4-10-26-Shemini-teaching-podcast-xx.mp3 During the Sabbath Day midrash, Mark suggests that the atbash, or set of literary brackets that surround the key element in the deaths of Nadab and Abihu (“there came forth fire from before YHVH, and CONSUMED…”) also touch the very heart of the lesson. It’s all about eating, or consuming (the SAME Hebrew word, every time) and it surrounds people who were “nigh unto Me,” says YHVH. And the should have known better, but instead did that which He had NOT commanded. As if He had. And there it is. Funny how so much of what He commanded, and then warned about, has been literally “turned on its head.” And how, once we see it, the thing that some disciples once called a “hard teaching,” isn’t really so hard at all. And the Big Lie is (again) revealed for what it is. Shemini: “No Sugar in the Gas Tank” https://hebrewnationonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/WT-CooH-4-11-26-Shemini-Sugar-in-the-Gas-Tank-podcast-xxx.mp3 Service information: Shabbat Shalom Mesa fellowship worship services and teachings are broadcast live every Sabbath, via Paltalk. Paul Rieckhoff, founder of Independent Veterans of America, joins CSPAN's Washington Journal to break down the strategic "sucking chest wound" of the current conflict in Iran. The Iraq War veteran who predicted the fallout of Baghdad is back with a haunting warning: we are repeating every disastrous mistake of the last twenty years—and adding new ones. From the unprecedented lack of congressional oversight to the terrifying rise of low-cost drone threats hitting U.S. bases at home, Rieckhoff exposes why this "forever war" is the most unpopular in American history and how it is actively isolating us from our oldest allies. Beyond the front lines, a different kind of battle is being waged inside the Pentagon and across the American political landscape. Rieckhoff details a "culture war" and a systematic purge of senior military leadership mid-conflict, while the administration asks for billions in new defense spending without a single cent allocated for the long-term care of the veterans coming home. Community Group Questions1. Tim used Muzafer Sherif's 1950s social psychology experiments at Robbers Cave and Middle Grove as a framework for discussing what he called The Big Lie & The Big Truth. He defined these two ideas like this:The Big Lie: the good life comes through winning, controlling, dominating, defeating through power, and violence. The Big Truth: the good life comes through cooperation, community, common good, neighboring, friendship, mutuality, interdependence, forgiveness, reconciliation, and fidelity over time. In other words, each other. What types of situations, settings, and scenarios are most likely to move you into a place that (unconsciously or otherwise) has you saying things or acting in accordance with “The Big Lie?”When you become aware of those inclinations and impulses, how do you respond to yourself? What helps you to recenter your thoughts, emotions, and actions on the way of Jesus?2. Tim gave some examples of groups of people who are sometimes used as tools for stoking fear in the populace, driving us toward conflict: Palestinians, trans kids, and undocumented immigrants. Many of us, however, might be more inclined to protect than blame those specific groups. If that's true for you, then spend a moment to ask yourself: who are the groups that you, whether publicly or privately, are likely to point the finger at? Who, for you, are the “problem people” that are causing and worsening the problems in our world today? What would it look like for you to take a Jesus-like posture of authentic inclusion and lovingkindness toward those people? How do you feel about that idea? If there are places of resistance (which there probably are), share about them and ponder how you engage with your own resistance. If you feel drawn to the idea, why do you think that might be? What does that mean for you?3. After he enters into the public eye, Jesus enters Jerusalem only once. As he enters, to shouts of praise and the embrace of the crowd, Jesus weeps. He weeps because, as he embarks on the final leg of a journey during which he has embodied “The Big Truth” at every turn, the crowd misunderstands him and rallies around him as a symbol of “The Big Lie.” He speaks to this, lamenting that if only his people had known the things that make for peace (Luke 19).How well do you think that you understand the “things that make for peace?” What are they?In what ways do you find it easiest to embody them in your own life? Why do you think that is?In what ways do you find it most difficult? Why do you think that is?When you see others missing the point and misunderstanding Jesus today, what's your likely response? To what extent does it mirror Jesus' weeping? In what ways is it different?

The Talmud teaches that God's seal is truth; lying displays that you care more what your fellow man thinks than what the Lord thinks of you. A half a truth is a whole lie and partial truths should not be rationalized or legitimized. One of the attributes of The Valorous Woman that Solomon extolls is "the heart of her husband trusts in her." Trust can only be earned by being a consistently honest person, whose word is constantly reliable, and admits when they make a mistake. Everyone knows that lies travel at a faster velocity than the truth; and this was even before the digital age. Thanks to the internet and social media, a lie is far more powerful than ever previously conceived. Hitler outlined his plan for ruling Germany in his manifesto ,Mein Kampf. A key component to taking power was the implementation of the "Big Lie," explained at length in our forthcoming character episode p"G (Season Six, Episode 7). In this episode, Christopher Robbins speaks with Lee Wind, Chief Content Officer for the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), about the vital role independent publishing plays in bringing diverse voices and stories to readers. They discuss IBPA's history and mission, the advantages of mission-driven publishing over purely profit-driven models, and how independent publishers create communities around their content. The conversation also addresses the concerning trend of book banning and censorship, and IBPA's innovative "We Are Stronger Than Censorship" program that buys and donates two books for everyone book challenged. Lee provides valuable advice for aspiring authors and publishers, emphasizing the importance of professional development and community collaboration in the independent publishing world. Episode Highlights 00:00:10: Christopher Robbins introduces the Helping Families Be Happy podcast and himself as co-founder of Familius, husband, father of nine, author, and various outdoor enthusiast based in California's Central Valley. 00:00:59: Introduction of guest Lee Wind as Chief Content Officer for the Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), the largest trade association for publishers in the United States. 00:01:13: Lee's personal mission described as writing books that would have changed his life as a gay Jewish kid and teen, including his award-winning non-fiction books "No Way They Were Gay" and "The Gender Binary Is a Big Lie." 00:01:35: Discussion of the "We Are Stronger Than Censorship" program that buys and donates two books to offset every one book challenged, run by IBPA with the American Library Institute and over 75 industry partners. 00:01:59: Lee expresses enthusiasm about joining the podcast to discuss book publishing. 00:02:12: Christopher shares his history with IBPA, having served on the board and participated in strategy that helped the organization grow. 00:02:34: Lee explains IBPA's origins in 1983 when about a dozen Southern California publishers pooled resources to send one representative to a major New York trade show. 00:03:27: Discussion of how IBPA has evolved while maintaining its core mission of advocacy, education, and tools for success to level the playing field for independent publishers. 00:04:15: Lee emphasizes the importance of independent publishing to prevent four or five corporations from deciding what everyone reads, highlighting the diverse and mission-driven approaches of independent publishers. 00:05:21: Christopher encourages the audience to explore independent books, music, and film as sources of exceptional content. 00:05:35: Christopher shares a personal memory of Jan Nathan, IBPA's founder, inviting him to dinner in 1990 and being welcoming and encouraging to him as a young industry newcomer. 00:06:20: Lee discusses how mission-driven independent publishers differ from corporate publishers focused solely on financial bottom lines, using examples like Patagonia and Just Us Books. 00:06:53: Christopher compares this to Familius's philosophy that revenue is simply fuel for the mission. 00:07:26: Lee explains how independent publishers understand the power of community and niche markets better than corporate publishers, with four out of five books in bookstores from corporate publishers but that fifth book representing hundreds of different independent voices. 00:08:38: Discussion of the advantages of direct-to-consumer sales for publishers vs. sales through major retailers like Amazon, where publishers don't own the customer relationship. 00:09:31: Lee cites Brandon Sanderson's successful Kickstarter campaign as an example of authors leveraging their platform and community. 00:09:45: Christopher mentions that Brandon Sanderson teaches at his alma mater BYU and that his niece has been one of Sanderson's test readers. 00:09:56: Lee shares that some of Brandon Sanderson's BYU lectures on topics like world building are available on YouTube. 00:10:15: Christopher discusses how Famis provides value to nearly 50,000 engaged subscribers through biweekly free content about helping families be happy. 00:10:45: Christopher acknowledges the highly competitive nature of the book industry, particularly regarding physical shelf space where getting one book on a shelf means removing another. 00:11:14: Lee shares IBPA's motto "helping each other achieve and succeed" and explains that bookstore sales are actually a small portion of most publishers' revenue. 00:12:09: Discussion of how quality books naturally generate word-of-mouth marketing and how AI- generated content makes quality even more important. 00:12:48: Christopher introduces the topic of book banning and censorship through Famis's book "Down with Lime Books," expressing his discouragement with how some have weaponized religion to deny people their own voice. 00:13:59: Lee agrees that while parents should have input into what their own children read, they shouldn't control what other people's children read. 00:14:53: Lee explains that book banning creates a chilling effect that makes schools and libraries afraid to bring in diverse books, resulting in sales drops of up to 50% for some independent publishers focused on marginalized voices. 00:15:55: Lee provides the example of "Everywhere Babies" illustrated by Marla Frazee, which depicts diverse families including same-sex parents and has been called pornography despite being innocent family scenes. 00:17:02: Christopher simply states "love your neighbor" as his religious perspective on book banning. 00:17:08: Lee describes meeting with Dr. Tessel Magnusson and creating the offensive strategy of buying and donating two books to offset every one book challenge. 00:18:10: Christopher shares that he always recommends aspiring authors get involved with IBPA to help them succeed. 00:18:35: Lee explains that IBPA helps people become professional publishers, with membership including about 1,200 authors who publish their own work and 2,000 independent companies of various sizes. 00:19:35: Lee directs people to his personal website at LeeWind.org and IBPA's website at ibpa-online.org. 00:20:04: Christopher concludes by thanking Familius for supporting the podcast and encouraging listeners to subscribe, leave reviews, and choose independent books for their next reading adventure. Key Takeaways Independent publishing is essential for maintaining diversity in what people read, preventing a handful of corporations from controlling all published content. Mission-driven publishing creates different outcomes than purely profit-driven publishing, allowing publishers to maintain control over their values and production methods. Building a community around your content and selling directly to consumers creates stronger relationships and more sustainable success than relying solely on major retailers. Book banning is not about the content of specific books but rather an attempt to create a chilling effect that erases diverse identities and perspectives from libraries and schools. Quality content will ultimately win out even in an age of AI-generated material, as authentic books generate word-of-mouth recommendations that drive long-term success. The "We Are Stronger Than Censorship" program demonstrates how the publishing community can go on offense against book banning by buying and donating two books for every 1 book challenged. Aspiring authors and publishers should join professional organizations like IBPA for business guidance while also developing their craft through specialized groups like the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Independent publishers understand niche markets better than corporate publishers, creating content that serves specific communities rather than trying to appeal to the broadest possible audience. Quotable Moments "The idea of only four or five corporations deciding what everyone reads is a really terrible idea." "If the bottom line is financial, it's a very different outcome than if the bottom line is a mission, a vision for our to make our world a better place through books." "The revenue that we generate is simply fuel for the mission." "The magic of it is that if you have a community, if you have a niche and or niche and you're publishing books that are what those people really want, then that's sort of the recipe for success." "We have a motto at IBPA, it's helping each other achieve and succeed." "In this age of AI slop that we are on the cusp of, it's nice to know that quality will win out." "The idea that I should be able to control what your kids read is really wrong." "They're attacking books because books help people have empathy and I think that empathy is in short supply these days." "Love your neighbor." "We don't have to just sit back and let this ridiculousness continue. We can fight back"

Savage tackles "the big lie," saying truth is harder to find because lying is normalized and people have lost the ability to reason. He references Hitler-era propaganda tactics and argues modern media operates as propaganda, while toxic "airs, waters, and places" fuel public confusion and health decline. Savage credits his immigrant father for teaching him to think independently by comparing multiple news sources, then criticizes collapsing education standards and DEI-driven admissions. He scans current headlines—NYC schools and taxes, Mexico cartel violence, Trump's upcoming State of the Union, Epstein depravity, birth-rate collapse, public Islam displays in Times Square, crime, and Gavin Newsom's SAT comments—framing them as examples of narrative manipulation. He ends with a Tahoe avalanche account blaming risky route choices and closes by warning that health and supplements are also saturated with "big lies," urging listeners to think for themselves. Here's what you missed at last week's Gaslit Nation Salon. The full recording is available on Patreon.com/Gaslit. Gaslit Nation warned you in 2019 that Tulsi Gabbard was a Russian disinformation weapon, and now she is the Director of National Intelligence. The gatekeeper of American secrets is currently abusing her power to illegally intervene in our domestic elections, as seen in the recent federal raid on a Georgia election office. Trump's raid in Georgia, overseen by Gabbard and Kash Patel's FBI, goes beyond his Big Lie litigating the 2020 election. They're laying the groundwork to justify "security measures" to make it easier for GOP ratf*cking and voter suppression to steal our elections. Meanwhile, a whistleblower complaint reveals that Gabbard buried NSA intelligence regarding two foreign operatives discussing a compromised person in Trump's inner circle. Given the corruption spree in Trump's own inner circle, there's a long list of who this could be! As the reporting has confirmed, Gabbard is leading a cover-up. As predicted in last week's salon, it was Kushner who is at the center of an NSA intelligence report on two foreign operatives discussing someone close to Trump -- a report that Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, hid to protect the Trump family's corruption crime spree. A New York Times gift article is available here. Tulsi Gabbard is a national security threat. We must demand that our Secretaries of State protect our ballots from this administration's interference. Agonize then organize and socialize. The news cycle is designed to exhaust you, but you don't have to face the autocracy alone. We built a resilience community for truth-tellers, and we want you in it. Join us today at 4pm ET for our Gaslit Nation Salon, a space to strategize, vent, and connect with a community of listeners just as horrified as you. Find the link to join us by Zoom, wherever you are, at Patreon.com/Gaslit. Thank you to everyone who supports the show -- we could not make Gaslit Nation without you! According to Marc Elias, Dahlia Lithwick's guest on Amicus, “This week will be looked back on as a pivot point in terms of how the midterms play out.” Elias is a nationally recognized authority on voting rights, redistricting and campaign finance law. He is Chair of Elias Law Group and founder of Democracy Docket. In the past few weeks, Donald Trump's election denialism has kicked into high gear, just as his poll numbers hit new lows. Elias tells us the FBI/DNI raid to seize ballots in Fulton County, Georgia, and Steve Bannon's new threats to surround polling places with ICE officers in November, show an administration that is prototyping new mechanisms for election subversion and voter suppression. But the public has power in this scenario, especially if they start paying attention to elections and voting rights now, rather than the day before November 3rd, 2026.Want more Amicus? SEASON 4 EPISODE 52: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: It's the Big Lie Redux. Trump appears to be planning some kind of SHOW TRIALS over the 2020 Election - and Nicolas Maduro might be his key “witness." He let it slip at the World Economic Forum yesterday. He told the audience in Davos that he will be prosecuting people over the 2020 Election. Never mind that there's nothing to prosecute anybody for; never mind that he lost; never mind that this has already been through the courts: "It was a rigged election. Everybody now knows that. They found out. People will soon be prosecuted for what they did. That's probably breaking news." In the last week, he has twice insisted Joe Biden and his administration ‘should be arrested’ and he has now said "we caught 'em." In his fugue state News Conference Tuesday, Trump had a question planted about ‘finding things out’ from Maduro about 2020. And Maduro's role in some nonsensical conspiracy theory may be the real reason Trump had Maduro renditioned from Venezuela – not drugs. Regardless: all the tea leaves suggest Trump is going to roll out the Big Lie again, this time perhaps with a phony confession from Maduro in exchange for a pardon or something. Trump is insane and desperate, so now he will actually try to focus the Department of Justice and all elected Republicans on prosecuting Biden and others. You think his Greenland Clown Show is crazy? You think his terrorism in Minnesota is crazy? You ain’t seen nothing yet. And god help us if it gets any traction. If media pushback were insufficient to counter the tsunami of propaganda Trump and his criminal gangs could generate, he might try to use the subsequent unrest as an excuse to interfere with the midterms or even rationalize violating the constitution and seeking another term. B-Block (32:30) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Anchors Aweight, Buffalo Bills' owner Terry Pegula, who has fired his coach even though he thinks Sean McDermott did an "admiral" job. Then there's Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer and the accusations of an affair with a staffer on the public dime. She's chosen to be represented by a lawyer named Dr. Nick. And then there are America's two most overrated journalists Jim "What Is A Woman?" VandeHei, and Anderson "You Really Think Trump Is Insane?" Cooper and yes they each actually asked those questions this week. C-Block (45:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: How different was flying nearly half a century ago? There we were, the president of Cornell University and I, waiting to board a plane from New York to Ithaca and there they were, two airline employees, trying to fix a problem in the undercarriage by stuffing paper towels up into it.
