PASSED BALL SHOW #81 5/21/2013 Part 1 WITH ROY SIEVERS AND ROGER MASON; I open up with my interview with 1949 AL Rookie of the Year and 1957 AL HR and RBI leader Roy Sievers. After discussing possible trades for Mets 1B, I speak with former Pirates, Phillies and Giants RHP Roger Mason about his nearly flawless postseason stats. I talk about team is really worse, the 2013 Astros or 2013 Marlins. Also, some discussion about how 2013 is the beginning of the new era of MLB aces and finish with where the Atlanta Braves bullpen will go from here after the recent injuries to Jonny Venters and Eric O'Flaherty
The Winter Meetings are quickly approaching and MLB.com's Tim McMaster (@MLB_McMaster) and Braves reporter Mark Bowman (MLBBowman) get you ready explaining what holes the Braves need to fill. They also discuss Rick Kranitz taking over as pitching coach and if the club can rise to the top of the now ultra-competitive NL East.
Quite possibly one of the most dysfunctional episodes yet... It's goofiness and Braves baseball, coming' at ya!!! We talk to An'Marie, who is the sister of Braves pitcher Jonny Venters, about what it was like living with a future MLB'er. We also go Around the Horn, and I think @JTravWalker may resign soon. Enjoy!
One of the best comeback stories in baseball history has come full circle right before our very eyes!
On this episode of the GSMC Baseball Podcast host Tom Dougherty discusses the Cubs jump to first place, talks NL East race, and recent trades. The Cubs have carved out a 2.5 game lead in the NL Central and have aslo aquired Cole Hamels from the Texas Rangers to sure up their rotation. A rotation that hasn't been as consistant as once hoped. In the NL East the Phillies also have a 2.5 game lead over the second place Braves. Both Clubs boast a roster of young talent with a veteran precence mixed in, that race may come down to the final week of the season. More trades have occured since the last show. The Yankees aquired J.A. Happ from the Blue Jays, the Red Sox snagged Nathan Eovaldi from the Rays and the Braves aquired Jonny Venters from Tampa Bay. Venters a started his career in Atlanta. Bobby is joined by the 2015 FSTA Baseball Writer of the Year, RotoGraphs' very own Mike Podhorzor, to discuss the latest news around the league and which players on the waiver wire fantasy owners should consider scooping up or leaving alone. The guys first share their thoughts on whether Anthony Rizzo's slide was just good baseball or had malicious intent (8:20) before delving into some pressing fantasy baseball questions. A few of the more important topics we try to tackle are whether Jonny Venters is the closer to own in Tampa Bay (10:03), if Gorkys Hernandez's power is a fluke or for real (19:32), whether Austin Meadows can stick around in the majors and become a viable fantasy option (25:20), predict just how good will Alex Reyes be this season (33:48), and project what fantasy owners should expect from call-up Shane Bieber (35:27)? To close, Bobby and Mike team up to answer your Listener Mailbag questions (41:10). Sponsors: DRAFT.com/pros - Use the DRAFT.com app where you can play in one-week snake drafts for real money.
