In advance of the Winter Meetings, starting pitcher signings are the big news but NCiB boyfriends are also on the move, including a full boyfriend trade between the Brewers and Mariners. Miguel Cabrera announces his upcoming retirement, reminding us that in addition to spectacular batting stats, he'll leave a legacy of giving back to his communities. The Winter Meetings bring us a new draft lottery, the Rule 5 Draft, and the Take the Field program focusing on women working in baseball. Ideally, they will also shake loose the Free Agent shortstop market and a home for Aaron Judge. The players' union, the MLBPA, renewed Tony Clark's contract through 2027  so  that  he will remain Executive Director through the next contract negotiations. Players voted in a new executive committee, heavy on the pitchers and Ian Happ. Ronald Acuña keeps the Hammers streak going by winning the LVPB home run derby and more  familiar faces join the winter baseball scene in both Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. Baseball for All's Justine Seigal returns to  Mexico to lead clinics for  girls  and  coach some winter ball. Also in the DR, Nelson Cruz and friends lead the annual “Batting Clean Up” beach clean up event. Team USA finally announces the rest of their WBC pitching squad. The Tampa Bay Rays toss their hat in the ring for a chance to develop a new ballpark along with residential, hotel, and commercial space. We say “there aren't enough fbombs in the world to get you to move to Florida,” “can't we call them non-winners?” and “mystery soup.” Get boosted, fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith,  and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. We're happy for Dusty, Pottymouth is happy for JV, Patti is resigned to scrappy not prevailing in the end. Birthday girl Pottymouth finds a way to make the World Series about the Red Sox and it just feels right. It also leads to more quality analysis of “combined no-hitter” vs. “no-hitter,” and big credit to the catcher, in this case Christian Vazquez. Jeremy Peña is the MVP and the “it” boy of the moment but we just need to note that NCiB claimed him first. No surprise that Patti names sexy defensive plays from Orioles Legend Trey Mancini and possible future BF Chas McCormick as Series turning points. And well that monster homer by BF Yordan Alvarez. The Phils had too much fun for this to be the end. In non-series news, Gold Gloves were awarded last week, with a strong showing from NCiB's boyfriends, past, present, and probably future. Ronald Acuña shows up in Venezuela and winter ball/WBC rumors kick in, and with Idelmaro Vargas playing for the Cardinales we consider just hoping both teams have fun rather than throwing loyalty at a team. The Hot Stove will fire up and we note that shortstop free agents will be the big news and we look to contract extensions for some of the kids.  We say "drunk and appreciative," "I want to go to Aruba to think," and "fun is my second favorite f word." Vote, get boosted, fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith,  and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. The conversation then turned to rookie sensation Michael Harris and the impact he has had on the Braves and how Snitker determines where Harris will bat in the lineup. “He is a versatile kid, it doesn't matter where he hits, you know he is going to do damage…as he matures and he becomes this player we all know he is he will probably be at that number 2 or 3 spot for a long time,” Snitker on Harris and where he bats in the lineup. Snitker went on to talk about the way carries himself and how much the veteran players appreciate his presence. After finishing 101-61 on the season and winning the tiebreaker over the New York Mets, the Braves have secured the 2-seed in the National League and will await the three-game wildcard series winner between the Philadelphia Phillies and the St. Louis Cardinals. It's all coming down to the final two weeks for the Atlanta Braves, who are in search of their fifth National League East crown in as many years. Standing in their way, the first place New York Mets. Grant McAuley and Caleb Johnson size up a week of ups and down for the Braves, who are now dealing with one of their biggest foes so far this season: Injuries. Ozzie Albies was lost for the remainder of the season, now Spencer Strider joins him on the injured list and faces the specter of an oblique injury that could curtail his postseason plans and the plans Atlanta had for him. Ronald Acuña Jr. has dealt with lingering knee issues, but now a back ailment has forced him from the lineup. Amidst those setbacks, the Atlanta offense has stalled out in September and is looking to get back on track, with Matt Olson facing a month-long slump that has shown little signs of letting up. The Braves are hoping to get things turned around in time to wrench the division away from the Mets in a three-game series to close September. We'll cover all of that plus a look ahead for the Braves and a trip around the big leagues on this edition of From The Diamond. On this edition of From the Diamond, Grant and Caleb kick off the show as they do every show by recapping what was this Week in Braves Baseball. The guys discuss what the Braves have coming up down the final stretch of the season, the Braves losing four out of five on their latest road trip, the Cubs sweeping the Mets being a big help to the Braves, Ozzie Albies returning to the lineup last night after fracturing his foot in June, and the the Grant and Caleb close out the segment by explaining why the Braves' comeback win last night was exactly what the Braves and the Braves' offense needed. Next, Grant and Caleb continue hour one by continuing their recap of what happened this week in Braves Baseball. The guys discuss Ronald Acuña Jr. returning to right field after Ronald spent a lot of time at DH to help heal up his sore knee, why having both Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies back in the field and in the lineup is a big deal. Grant and Caleb also discuss why this entire Braves lineup needs to get going, more specifically Austin Riley and Matt Olson. Finally, the guys close out the segment by discussing Michael Harris II continuing to get better as the season goes along, the amazing season William Contreras has put together, and why the Braves have the best pair of catchers on the offensive end. Finally, to close out hour one on this edition of From The Diamond, Grant and Caleb finish recapping what happened this week in Braves baseball by discussing what almost was Raisel Iglesias getting the save opportunity over Kenley Jansen before the Braves offense blew the game open in the bottom of the eighth. Grant and Caleb also discuss the Braves losing Kirby Yates for at least two weeks due to elbow inflammation, the Braves having options besides Jake Odorizzi if they so choose, and some not so great news on the farm as Mike Soroka gives up three home runs in five innings during his rehab start on Friday, and Ian Anderson being done for the season as he suffered a strained oblique down in Gwinnett with the Stripers. To kick off hour two of this edition of From the Diamond, Caleb and Grant go around the big Leagues. Grant and Caleb start in the National League and discuss the Mets struggling in the month of September as they have been dealing with some injuries, the Braves continuing to try and take over the NL East, and the Phillies trying to make that hard for the Braves. In the NL Central Caleb and Grant discuss the St.Louis Cardinals' second half surge that's given them a seven and a half game division lead over the Milwaukee Brewers going into the final two and a half weeks into the season. Finally, Grant and Caleb wrap up their National League report in the NL West. Grant and Caleb discuss the Dodgers already clinching the division, and with the best record in baseball are looking like they will earn a first round bye in the MLB postseason and won't have to participate in a best of three Wild Card series. Grant and Caleb close out this edition of From the Diamond by continuing their look around the big leagues, and this time around they focus on the American League. In the AL East, Grant and Caleb discuss the Yankees trying to avoid a colossal second half meltdown as they try to hold on to their five and a half game lead in the AL East and perhaps save the job of their Manager and General Manager. In the AL Central, Grant and Caleb discuss the Cleveland Guardians taking over the top spot in the division due to the Minnesota Twins sliding in September to the point where they are now in third place after the Chicago White Sox passed them for second place as well. Caleb and Grant also discuss the Wild Card not being a postseason option for any of the AL Central ball clubs as well. Finally, Grant and Caleb close out their American League report in the AL West. Caleb and Grant discuss The Astros getting Justin Verlander back on Friday and clinching a playoff berth as they continue on another winning streak, and shrink their magic number to clinch the AL West to just five. Grant and Caleb close out the segment and the show by discussing what's ahead for the Atlanta Braves.
