Take 10 with Tim – June 26, 2026 @ 9:15 am.1.We had a trade on Wednesday night with the Cubs acquiring David Peterson from the Mets for minor leaguer Cole Mathis – Cole Mathis profile is at the end of the notes.a.Is this the first sign of the Mets throwing in the towel?b.If so, give me the top 3 players the Mets will trade before the deadline?c.Will Lindor or Soto be one of those players?d.Good move for the Cubs?e.Who gets Peterson's starts in New York? Tong?f.Kodai Senga – Yuk – moved to the bullpen.2.It's been a month since Dylan Crews returned. He's hitting .212 with five home runs and two stolen bases. Remarkably, he's walked twice in 124 plate appearances and is sporting a .250 OBP. a.We will look at his baseballsavant data as well.b.What do Dynasty League managers do and are you still all-in or starting to lose confidence in him?3.Related. I started with my Draft Preview yesterday and wrote up the first 15 players I would take in a FYPD. Roch Cholowsky, the long-time favorite of everyone to go #1 in FYPD (and by MLB teams as well) reminds me a bit of Crews. Can't miss college hitter with power – but unlike Crews, he doesn't have much speed. When I was writing up my notes, I kept thinking of Crews, and maybe a little of Corey Seager. If you're picking #1 in a FYPD, do you pick the safe guy in Cholowsky, or do you go with somebody with more explosive tools but with more risk?4.The discussion of Shane Bieber was on our list last week but we talked to much and never got to him. I asked, would you start Shane Bieber given the drop in velo he was showing in his rehab. Now, we have a game under his belt and it wasn't great = 3.2 IP, 9 hits, 4 ER, 3 HR, 2K/0BB. His fastball wasn't any better at 91.9 mph and he's throwing his cutter more to try and compensate.a.How are you treating him for the next few starts? Starting him because he's Shane Bieber, looking at matchups, or on the bench? He has Texas at home on Sunday.5.One of our Pateron members reach out about Jakob Marsee and whether he should be a keeper for next season. I did a full breakdown on him and will share, but wanted to get your take on what has to be a disappointing season for where you had to take him in fantasy leagues.6.A few Rookies starting to show their stuff – Fact of Fictiona.Jac Caglianone – 14 home runs, but striking out a lot and a .352 BABIP is propping up his .275 BAb.TJ Rumfield – 12 HR, .275 BA, and a 47K/28BB, 15% K-Rate c.Bryce Eldridge – 130 AB, 6 HR, .285 BA, 34K/21BB – 22% K-Rated.Foster Griffin – 91.1 IP, 3.15 ER, 4.09 xERAe.Gage Jump – 35.1 IP, 2.04 ERA, 35K/10BB. 3.71 ERA at home, 0.49 away. Overall, 2.94 xERA7.What hitter are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB?8.What pitcher are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB?Cole Mathis (3B/1B)Highest Level: High-A ETA: 2028 Fantasy Ceiling: Corner InfielderLast Updated: 06/25/2026Tools Summary: Polished power bat whose real test begins at Double A.Cole Mathis, the Cubs' second round pick in 2024, lost most of his first professional season to Tommy John surgery and was limited to just 25 games in 2025. Chicago sent him back to Low A to open 2026, and while he's older than the competition, he's performed exactly as a polished college bat should. The approach is mature, the power is real, and he's made a clear effort to elevate — sometimes a bit too intentionally — but the results speak for themselves as fly balls continue turning into home runs. After 14 games, he earned a promotion to High A, where the home run output dipped but the underlying metrics remained strong. The Mets saw enough and acquired him in late June in exchange for David Peterson. From a development standpoint, it's essentially a wash — both organizations do a solid job with hitters. The pedigree and strength have always been part of the projection, but fantasy managers should stay measured. Given his age and the level, he should be producing. The real test comes once he reaches Double A, where we'll learn whether the contact skills and swing decisions hold up against better sequencing and velocity. If they do, the power will play.
A high-stakes Monday schedule fundamentally shifted the fantasy landscape as ace starters faced starkly contrasting fates, strategic bullpen management unlocked massive streaming value, and a wave of superstar injury activations prepared to reshape active lineups. Corey Pieper returns to dive deep into a critical slate of performances, breaking down brilliant bounceback campaigns, alarming pitching regressions, crucial bullpen developments, and a fresh FanDuel Bet of the Day target. The elite pitching tier delivered extreme polarization to start the week. Kyle Bradish put together an absolute masterclass, stifling hitters across eight scoreless frames with nine strikeouts, while Michael King was equally spectacular, preservation-perfect over seven shutout innings with five punchouts. Brandon Woodruff was utterly electric in his return, silencing opposition bats with 10 strikeouts across six dominant, one-hit frames to hold off an equally sharp Brady Singer. Framber Valdez flashed stellar form with eight strikeouts over six frames of one-run ball, and Michael Wacha outdueled Drew Rasmussen by logging seven frames of one-run stability. Conversely, Gerrit Cole ran into an absolute buzzsaw, shelled for five earned runs on nine hard hits in a brief 4.1-inning exit, leaving fantasy managers sweating over his structural consistency. Meanwhile, strategic bulk-relievers stealing wins behind openers became an absolute goldmine; Eric Lauer fired six hitless, spectacular frames out of the bullpen, Alan Rangel tossed five innings of one-run ball, and highly touted prospect Kumar Rocker fanned nine batters across five stellar bulk frames to eclipse Tyler Phillips. The waiver and injury landscape is shifting beneath our feet with massive high-impact reinforcements on the immediate horizon. Fantasy managers can officially rejoice as Cincinnati's dynamic superstar Elly De La Cruz is locked in for his Tuesday activation from the hamstring injured list, while former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber is ready to make his long-awaited season debut for the Blue Jays. San Francisco is also on the verge of an incredible depth boost, with Francisco Lindor and flame-throwing righty Eury Perez trending aggressively toward a potential Wednesday return. On the critical tracking front, MVP centerpiece Bobby Witt Jr. sat out Monday's action but remains highly optimistic about avoiding a costly IL stint, while Kyle Tucker continues to manage lower back spasms. On the downside, both Dalton Rushing and Jeremy Peña triggered concern by leaving their respective contests early due to apparent physical tweaks. We wrap up the program with a comprehensive, deep-dive Bullpen Report tracking sudden closer instability. We analyze Ryan Helsley's uncharacteristic recent structural struggles, evaluate Jaden Hill's ascending leverage role in Colorado alongside Elvis Alvarado's concurrent high-leverage blown-save regression, navigate the cloudy late-inning committee situation for the Chicago Cubs, and dissect highly unusual, rough high-leverage outings from trusted anchors Cade Smith and Aroldis Chapman. Griffin Warner talks betting for Monday. Griffin Warner is back on the Pregame.com Podcast Network with episode 52 of What I Bet, the Monday, June 22nd edition, covering the full FIFA World Cup 2026 group stage card and the complete MLB slate before delivering a single best bet to close the show. Griffin opens by confirming the previous episode's winning play, Kansas City Royals at plus 113, a result that held on through a three-run ninth inning for a 6-5 final before moving straight into the World Cup. The first match on the board is Austria taking on defending champion Argentina at noon Central Time in Dallas, where Griffin observed real Austria supporter presence before making the tactical case for Ralf Rangnick's gegenpressing system as the one approach capable of limiting Messi's time and space. Griffin recaps Argentina's Matchday 1 win over Algeria, where Messi survived a red card situation and scored twice in the second half, and frames the Austria plus one and under two and a half combination as potentially live if the press works the way Rangnick, widely credited as the architect of that style and an influence on coaches like Xabi Alonso, designs it to work. Next up is France against Iraq, where Griffin acknowledges France is on another level after Kylian Mbappe's stoppage-time goal from outside the box buried all underdogs and unders in Matchday 1, and sees no compelling case for Iraq to compete. Griffin identifies Norway versus Senegal as the best match of the day, noting Erling Haaland scored twice in Norway's opener while Senegal impressed for 64 minutes against France before conceding a late Mbappe goal, finding the under two and a half and Senegal as a quarter-goal underdog both worth watching. The final group stage match features a must-win Algeria side returning after a 3-0 loss to Argentina taking on a Jordan team whose best European-league player, Mousa Al-Tamari, the so-called Jordanian Messi playing club football in France, did not show up in the opener. Griffin finds the one-goal spread too tight given Algeria's talent depth and expects sharp money to push the line before kickoff. Baseball follows with a ten-game slate preview. Griffin likes the under 8 in Yankees-Tigers with Garrett Cole back and a worrying Detroit bullpen, the under 7.5 in Royals-Rays with Michael Wacha and Drew Rasmussen both going well and a Tampa Bay team not built to score, the Astros at plus 104 against Toronto with Hunter Brown making a second start opposite Shane Bieber's first of the year, a slight Mets lean at plus 103 against the Cubs with Shota Imanaga's fly ball tendencies a concern against Kodai Senga, the White Sox at home over an injury-thinned Guardians roster missing José Ramírez after hamate surgery, a tempting Merrill Kelly plus 122 number against Andre Pallante in St. Louis, the over on Jason Bennett's rookie Coors Field debut for Boston, and a lean toward the under in the Braves-Padres matchup where Grant Holmes faces Michael King, with both bullpens strong and Ronald Acuña Jr. sidelined by a hamstring injury. Griffin closes with his official What I Bet Best Bet: Kansas City Royals under 7.5 at Tampa Bay Rays at minus 120, with a recommendation to sprinkle on the under 4 in the first half as well. A wild weekend of fantasy baseball action delivered jaw-dropping power displays and unexpected pitching disasters, leaving managers to navigate an increasingly volatile landscape. Corey Pieper breaks down a massive slate of weekend results, major injury updates, catastrophic pitching lines, and the latest FanDuel Bet of the Day. The long ball took center stage on Saturday and Sunday. Kyle Schwarber put on a masterclass with a historic three-home run performance on Saturday, while Ozzie Albies, Jeremy Peña, Ty France, top draft picks Travis Bazzana and JJ Wetherholt, and collegiate phenom Jac Caglianone all left the yard twice over the weekend. Bryce Harper electrified fantasy managers by hitting for the cycle on Saturday, William Contreras put together a massive 4-for-5 day with a home run and 3 RBIs, and Wyatt Langford continued his hot streak, launching another long ball while handling leadoff duties on Sunday. On the mound, Joey Cantillo was nearly untouchable, carrying a gem through eight innings with nine strikeouts and just one earned run, while young arms like Cam Schlittler racked up an incredible 13 strikeouts, and Troy Melton fired six innings of one-hit ball. Veteran Logan Webb went the distance with an eight-inning complete game, and Nathan Eovaldi bounced back from a skipped start to log nine strikeouts over six strong frames. It wasn't all celebration, however, as several frontline aces ran into absolute buzzsaws. Freddy Peralta endured a catastrophic nightmare, knocked out after coughing up 10 earned runs on 10 hits in just 2.2 innings. Bryce Elder was tagged for eight earned runs on 12 hits, while Kevin Gausman got rocked for seven earned runs while walking four in just two innings. Stephen Kolek gave up nine earned runs in less than two frames, and Dustin May surrendered six earned runs in a brief two-inning appearance. Even steady stars hit speed bumps, as Jacob deGrom was tagged for six earned runs over six frames, and Tarik Skubal surrendered two home runs in a shaky 5.2-inning performance. The injury landscape remains highly active and critical for upcoming roster decisions. On the bright side, ace Brandon Woodruff and Shane Bieber are both set to make highly anticipated returns to the mound on Monday, Eury Perez is expected back next week, and Daulton Varsho made an immediate impact upon his return with a three-run blast. However, the Baltimore Orioles suffer a massive blow as star catcher Adley Rutschman lands on the 7-day concussion injured list after a freak collision, while MVP candidate Bobby Witt Jr. is dealing with a Grade 1 MCL sprain. Elly De La Cruz is targeting a Tuesday return, and Teoscar Hernandez is eyeing a June 29th comeback, but Ryne Nelson (flexor), Michael Soroka (glute), Jordan Lawlar (hamstring), and Jack Leiter (ankle) all face structural setbacks. We close out the show with our Weekly Waiver Wire segment, highlighting the top targets you need to grab tonight to stay ahead of your league opponents before the Monday morning transaction freeze. The performance was pretty awful with a 7.20 ERA and only two more strikeouts than runs earned runs – Yikes.a.For Dynasty League managers, are you still all-in? He still has minor league eligibility in some leagues. Does that play a role in whether you cut him or not?3.It's been a month since Dylan Crews returned. He's hitting .189 with four home runs and two stolen bases. Remarkably, he's walked twice in 100 plate appearances and is sporting a .230 OBP. a.We will look at his baseballsavant data as well.b.Similar to Painter, what do Dynasty League managers do and you still all-in or starting to lose confidence in him?4.There's no timeline for Ronald Acuna returning to game action, except Walt Weiss saying – “he's a long from returning”. Let's look at his injury history.a.82 games played in 2021, 119 in 2022, 159 in 2023, 49 in 2024, and 95 in 2025. That's 64 games a year or 40% of the games – in 5 years. I guess, sometimes the starter will go 5, but who knows. If you have Mariners' pitchers, what do you do?a.Two of the best pitchers in the minor leagues are Ryan Sloan and Kade Anderson. Both are shoving it in Double-A and look nearly ready. How on earth do they get a shot?7.What hitter are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB?a.Cooper Pratt 8.What pitcher are you targeting for this weekend's FAAB?a.Shane Drohan

The Blue Jays are coming off a frustratingly typical series sweep at the hands of the Rays in the dreaded Trop. And with nine games now separating them and the Yankees, plus eight-and-a-half between them and the Rays, we've reached the point where another AL East title may already be untenable. (FanGraphs has their odds down to just 1.5%).But the Jays' best baseball lies ahead. George Springer is already back in the lineup, Addison Barger will return against the Angels on the weekend, there's light at the tunnel for Shane Bieber, and Kazuma Okamoto and Myles Straw have had eye-opening stretches of late.Soon—and it can't come soon enough—we'll be watching a Jays team that looks a whole lot more like the one it was supposed to be. But the bottom of the roster is awfully thin, and some big decisions about who stays, who goes, and who's a flat-out bum.The vibes, in other words, are not so good.** FOR AN AD-FREE VERSION OF THIS—AND EVERY—EPISODE, PLUS WEEKLY BONUS SHOWS, FIND US AT patreon.com/BJHH ** Hosted on Acast.
