Episode No. 8 of the Irish Illustrated Interviews podcast series features linebacker Jaylon Smith, a high school and collegiate Butkus Award winner, a two-time All-American at Notre Dame, and a 10-year NFL veteran. He played for the Fighting Irish from 2013 to 2015, leading Notre Dame in tackles and havoc plays in his final season as a junior, a campaign that ended with a trip to the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. Unfortunately, in the loss to the Buckeyes, Smith also suffered a devastating injury, tearing his ACL and LCL and enduring significant nerve damage. As a result, he fell from a projected top-five pick to an early second-round selection, with several teams unsure if he'd be able to play football again. Nevertheless, Smith preserved. After sitting out his rookie year with the Dallas Cowboys, he returned to the gridiron a season later and eventually became a Pro Bowler in the midst of a decade-long NFL career. Our conversation spans his entire playing career. Plus, we dive into how he overcame his injury and how he's currently investing in the South Bend community by opening JINYA Ramen Bar on Eddy Street, directly across from campus. Bill then criticized Tua Tagovailoa's leadership after the latest Dolphins blowout loss and credited the Colts for getting off to a 6-1 start. 5 Things You Need To Know From College Football: Week 8 closed out the first hour as Bill reacted to Florida firing Billy Napier, Vanderbilt ranking in the top 10 for the first time since 1947 and a few teams making statements over the weekend. Hour two opened with Bill chatting with Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team about if the Colts are legit, the Giants defensive collapse and if Tua can resurrect his career. Buy or Sell was next as Bill answered if Florida is the best college football head coach opening, if the Jaguars are still a playoff contender and if the Blue Jays will win Game 7 of the ALCS. The show ended with Bill explaining why he doesn't believe Tua will be able to turn his career around.

Buy or Sell was next as Bill answered if Curt Cignetti can win a national championship at Indiana and if Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski was out of line for criticizing Bryce Harper. The week ended with Bill crowning the Bum of the Week.
