He's a lefty college pitcher with First Team All-Conference honors and a Reliever of the Year trophy, but the stat line is only the surface. We're joined by Michael Guerrero, a student athlete at Glendale Community College, to unpack what it takes to keep showing up when your body has given you every reason to stop.Michael opens up about living with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS), a rare condition tied to kidney failure, and what the warning signs actually looked like for him. We talk treatment, long recovery windows, and how setbacks can erase strength and endurance fast, especially when you're trying to perform at a high level. He also shares the frightening reality of a mini stroke at 13 and an appendix emergency that taught him how unpredictable health can be.From there we get into baseball mindset and real development: why he fell in love with pitching, how the underdog identity fuels his competitiveness, and what changed when he made the jump from high school baseball to college baseball. We cover the pressure to chase velocity, why mechanics and movement still win, and the mental reset he uses after a bad outing: slow yourself down, breathe, then get back to being a teammate. If you got something from this conversation, subscribe, share it with an athlete who needs it, and leave a review. What part of Michael's story hit you the hardest?

Taking action is the best stress reliever I know of. Sometimes I wake up with a feeling like time isn't just ticking away, it's slamming away. Like the arms of a giant clock; every second the giant arm slams into place with a thunderous sound. The main thing that usually worries me is running out of time before accomplishing my goals. On these mornings, I take action quickly. As soon as action is being taken—real action—I start feeling the stress lift away. Get a workout in, start knocking off tasks from your list, chip away at the things that are plaguing your mind. It's not always the things outside of our control that cause the most stress. It's often the tasks we're avoiding.

Shotgun Spratling and Kasey Kazliner return on the Dedeaux Download Podcast to break down another unblemished weekend for USC baseball as they improve to 15-0 on the season after opening the Big Ten season with a sweep of Illinois! They also talk with junior left-handed pitcher Sax Matson about the expansion of his role and the team's hot start to the season. Matson discusses the development of his arsenal during his time at USC, including the addition of a cutter this season to a fastball that's climbed five miles per hour since his freshman year and a breaking ball that has devastated hitters this year. He also chats about Sean Allen's coaching and the mentality he takes to the mound where he hopes to visit at least 40 times this season to tie the program appearances record. Matson again played a critical part in the Trojans' pitching efforts that were again electric as Mason Edwards and Grant Govel helped USC throw back-to-back 4-0 shutouts with the staff allowing only three runs over the weekend. USC fell behind early Sunday, but rallied back to take a 5-3 win to bookend the week with two-run victories after also rallying to defeat UC Irvine, 6-4, during a midweek matchup. Shotgun and Kasey break down all the action and look forward to the upcoming double midweek matchups and the Trojans' first road trip out of Southern California this weekend when they travel to Nortwestern.
