Sal praised the Mets' innovative move to use Clay Holmes and Sean Manaea as a "tag team" to get through games, seeing it as a creative solution to their starting pitching woes. He argues that this piggyback strategy, which worked effectively in their recent win, could be the key to their postseason success. Sal suggests that this approach, which he's been advocating for weeks, allows the Mets to leverage their bullpen strength and compensate for their rotation's lack of length. He believes this is a viable path forward for the team, especially in a short playoff series, and hopes it becomes a permanent strategy.
On the latest episode of The Mets Pod presented by Tri-State Cadillac, Connor Rogers and Joe DeMayo look back at a tough week that was for the Mets, and look ahead to the final stretch in the chase for a playoff spot. Connor and Joe feel relief after Pete Alonso's walk-off home run that snapped a long losing streak, and praise the early big league work by young starters Nolan McLean and Brandon Sproat. The guys also go long on the problems at hand, including the veteran members of the starting staff, Kodai Senga trying to find himself in Syracuse, an inconsistent offense, the readiness of Jonah Tong, and the uneven performance of an overworked bullpen. The show then goes Down on the Farm to check in on the minor league playoffs, and goes into the Mailbag to answer questions about the Mets' chances to get the third NL Wild Card, and what their starting rotation would look like in the postseason if they got there. In a furious breakdown of New York's latest sports failures, BT and Sal unloaded on the Giants, Jets, and even the Mets. The duo dissected the Giants' heartbreaking loss in Dallas, criticizing everything from a defensive collapse to the bizarre use of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. They then pivoted to the Jets, who they said looked completely inept in a brutal loss to the Bills, hampered by poor quarterback play and undisciplined penalties. The frustration wasn't limited to football, as the hosts tore into the Mets for their "disgusting" play and questionable personnel decisions like starting Jonah Tong over Sean Manaea. The entire segment painted a grim picture of New York sports, defined by a lack of accountability, poor management, and a frustrating pattern of self-inflicted wounds.
BT and Sal are fed up with the Mets, who they believe are playing "disgusting" and "inexcusable" baseball at a critical point in the season. The hosts tear into the team for its continued struggles, highlighting a complete lack of a winning mentality, poor fundamentals, and a series of questionable decisions. Sal is particularly incensed by the choice to start Jonah Tong over the more experienced Sean Manaea, seeing it as yet another baffling move that shows the team's flawed logic. Both agree that even if the Mets back into a playoff spot, their performance has been so consistently bad that it has already eroded the fanbase's trust and revealed deep-seated issues that need to be addressed in the offseason.
Sal and BT furiously debate the Mets' decision to keep rookie Jonah Tong in the rotation while moving veteran Sean Manaea to the bullpen. Sal argues that it's a "stupid" and illogical move, given Tong's recent implosion where he couldn't get out of the first inning, and Manaea's more stable, albeit inconsistent, performance. While BT acknowledges Tong's "electric stuff" and Manaea's struggles, he respects the organization's conviction in their top prospect. The hosts dive into the numbers, including Tong's high ERA and walk rate, contrasting it with Manaea's, to highlight the baffling nature of the decision as the Mets are in a tight playoff race.
Caleb Williams is using the same nail technician as Angel Reese. Gio's not sure if Chicago Bears fans want to read something like that. Boomer said he needs to get his head out of his ass and start listening to his coaches. A caller said this Mets season is karma for all the trash talking the fans did after they got Juan Soto from the Yankees. Jerry returns for an update, but first Boomer shows a picture from a Ryder Cup event he played in 20 years ago with a bunch of celebrities. Jerry starts with the sounds of the Yankees loss to the Tigers as they gave up 9 runs in the 7th. Sean Manaea had a rough outing in Philadelphia where the Mets lost again. Carlos Mendoza was asked after the game about the possibility of them not making the playoffs. The critics are out in Chicago as JJ McCarthy looked better in game 1 of his career than Caleb Williams did in start number eighteen. Ben Johnson talked about his struggles. Deion Sanders was asked about his starting quarterback for this weekend. In the final segment of the hour, C-Mac, who loves the Yankees, has officially given up on Anthony Volpe. A caller has a wager for Gio for this weekend's boxing match on Netflix.
It feels like we are in the middle of a complete collapse by the Mets. The Mets are on the verge of not making the playoffs, and if they do make it, it will be short lived. To not get as far as last year after adding Juan Soto would be insane. They cannot let Sean Manaea pitch another game this season. Gio said they stink and have stunk for months. Jerry is here for his first update of the day and starts with Kyle Schwarber hitting his 50th HR last night as the Phillies beat the Mets. The SF Giants won, also not good for the Mets. The Yankees had a very rough 7th inning and lost to the Tigers. Aaron Judge passed Yogi Berra as 5th all time in Yankees HRs. Buck Martinez had quite the critique of the Yankees during the Blue Jays broadcast. Chris Long talked about feeling old while watching the YouTube NFL broadcast. In the final segment of the hour, we took calls from Mets fans who have come to expect this type of season.

Will the Jets offense look anything like week 1 or was that an anomaly? If the Jets can run the ball like week 1, they will be in every game this year. Gio wonders if Boomer was into the UAP video of a missile being shot at an orb and it bouncing off. We took many calls on the UAP orb. Jerry returns for an update, but first Gio asks him about the alien orb. The Jets are cutting Xavier Gipson because of his fumble this past weekend. Daniel Jones was on Pat McAfee and talked about his big game with the Colts and his poor play with the Giants. Micah Parsons talked about his move to Green Bay after camp. The Yankees had a terrible seventh inning and lost to the Tigers. In the final segment of the hour, a caller wonders if this Mets collapse will be worse than 2007. Hour 4 We talked about the Ryder Cup with Jimmy Roberts from NBC. The event is taking place at Bethpage Black in Long Island. Jerry returns for his final update of the day and starts with audio of Aaron Nola talking to the media and somebody farts and people laugh. Kyle Schwarber hit his 50th HR of the season as the Phillies beat the Mets again. The Yankees had a terrible 7th inning and lost to the Tigers. Daniel Jones was on with Pat McAfee and asked him what he learned in his short time with the Vikings. The Moment of The Day: Jerry talking like a space alien. The Yankees aren't embarrassed by that ugly loss but they should be. The Mets are entering dangerous territory and Sean Manaea is hurting them.

Al was very confused this morning on the Warm Up Show on how the Wild Card standings work in MLB. Juan Soto hit a grand slam and triple as the Mets won in Detroit. Carlos Mendoza talked about Sean Manaea's troubles.
The hour began with a discussion of the Giants' schedule. Gio believes they need to start 2-2, scoring points with Russell Wilson throwing TDs, and beating either Dallas or Washington. Boomer anticipates improved Giants' offensive and defensive lines, and notes Russ's low turnover rate. Boomer thought the Jets should have kept Aaron Rodgers, but Gio disagreed due to culture change. They then discussed Sam Darnold with the Seahawks and a "who would you rather have" quarterback list. Jerry provided an update, preceded by Gio mentioning C-Lo's tuberculosis. Al was confused about MLB Wild Card standings. The Mets won in Detroit with Juan Soto hitting a grand slam and triple. Carlos Mendoza discussed Sean Manaea's struggles. Jerry's update covers the Mets' win, Sean Manaea's rough outing, and more on Parsons. Patrick Mahomes discusses his Brazil game. The hour ends with golf plans with Zach Wilson's father-in-law falling through, and calls for Boomer's fill-ins, including a caller noting Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers' Super Bowl wins at 27 with the Packers, comparing it to Jordan Love.

Hour 2 The Giants' schedule started with Gio stating they need to go 2-2, scoring points and Russell Wilson throwing TDs, beating either Dallas or Washington. Boomer believes both Giants' lines will improve and Russ limits turnovers. Boomer suggested the Jets keep Aaron Rodgers, but Gio argued against it for culture change. Sam Darnold is now with the Seahawks. Boomer then listed quarterbacks for comparison. Jerry provided an update, after Gio mentioned C-Lo's tuberculosis last week and Al's confusion over MLB Wild Card standings. Juan Soto hit a grand slam and triple for the Mets. Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner break down MLB Tuesday betting. The latest MLB Tuesday betting preview from RJ Bell's Dream Preview podcast, hosted by Munaf Manji with Griffin Warner, sets the stage for a critical slate of late-August matchups as teams position themselves for the postseason. The episode dives deep into 14 games on the betting board, breaking down pitching matchups, recent team form, and value spots for bettors. Manji and Warner are riding an 83% hot streak on best bets, going 10–2 in their last 12, and their confidence and banter drive an engaging analysis that blends sharp betting insight with humor and strong statistical breakdowns. The show begins with Red Sox vs Orioles, where Lucas Giolito's improved form and Kyle Braddish's return from Tommy John make Boston and the over intriguing plays. The Braves vs Marlins matchup highlights Sandy Alcantara's struggles, with Warner leaning to the home underdog Marlins and the over on 7.5 runs. In Rays vs Guardians, Shane Baz's road splits and Cleveland's sputtering offense create strong value on Tampa Bay plus money. The Yankees vs Nationals discussion centers on Luis Gil's control issues and the Yankees' defensive problems, leading both analysts toward overs rather than trusting either side. Toronto vs Minnesota showcases Chris Bassett's dominant home record against Bailey Ober's brutal losing streak, making the Blue Jays run line their clear best bet of the day. The Mets remain a “fade” team, with Sean Manaea's poor record and Jesus Luzardo's strong history against New York cementing Philadelphia as the sharper side. Brewers vs Diamondbacks is pegged as a potential shootout, with Jacob Misiorowski's walk issues and Arizona's power threats pointing to an over. Royals vs White Sox highlights Chicago's lack of offense despite Martin Pérez's decent outings, pushing Kansas City as the stronger side. Other key breakdowns include Pirates vs Cardinals (leaning over), Angels vs Rangers (under 8.5 tabbed as Warner's best bet despite Corbin's volatility), and Astros vs Rockies (only playable through alternate run lines given Houston's -315 price). Padres vs Mariners positions Dylan Cease as a value underdog against a hittable Luis Castillo, while Cubs vs Giants trends under behind Matthew Boyd's road splits and Justin Verlander's home tendencies. The card wraps with Reds vs Dodgers, where Nick Martinez's inconsistency and Clayton Kershaw's diminished form suggest the over nine runs is the sharper angle. Beyond game analysis, the hosts highlight Pregame.com promotions, including a Beat Greg Shaker college football contest with $1,000 in prizes and a 20% sitewide discount using the promo code SLUGGER20. This synergy between MLB betting insights, college football contests, and broader handicapping content reinforces Pregame's role as a hub for sharp sports betting information. From an editorial perspective, the podcast succeeds by pairing statistical depth with practical wagering advice, appealing both to seasoned bettors and newer fans seeking guidance. The mix of trends, fantasy baseball angles, and promotional tie-ins keeps the content dynamic. My commentary is that the show's value lies not just in picks, but in its process: highlighting faulty lines, identifying exploitable splits, and stressing the importance of context when interpreting numbers. The betting insights are actionable, but the broader lesson is that line shopping, injury context, and market awareness are as crucial as raw stats. Late-August baseball handicapping, with best bets on Blue Jays run line and Angels vs Rangers under anchoring a comprehensive breakdown. As playoff races tighten, bettors get both sharp picks and a reminder of Pregame.com's broader offerings, making it a must-listen for anyone serious about MLB odds, betting strategies, and value plays heading into September. The Mets bounced back despite another poor Kodai Senga start. He is the new human rain delay. The Mets scored a lot of runs with two outs last night. Mark Vientos is red hot and looking like the player he was last season. Willie says it's time for the Mets to start stacking wins and the guys agree that Sean Manaea needs to get going beginning with his start tonight.
Jerry and Willie Colon fill in for Boomer and Gio, and spirits are high. The Mets rebounded despite another poor Kodai Senga start, who's now the "human rain delay." They scored many two-out runs, with Mark Vientos red hot. Willie and the guys agree Sean Manaea needs to step up tonight. The game was delayed by Phillies' complaints about parabolic mics, but the Mets responded well. The Yankees won their "lose-lose" series. Andrew Bogusch's update covered the Yankees' win, Jazz Chisholm's 25th homer, Luis Torrens' 5 RBIs, and Francisco Alvarez's potential rehab assignment. Kodai Senga struggled again. Micah Parsons remains a hold-in after Terry McLaurin and Trey Hendrickson's new contracts, but Dak Prescott is unfazed, and Jerry Recco believes Jerry Jones will close a deal. In the final segment, Jerry and Willie discuss Micah Parsons with a Cowboys fan, and Jerry updates his bat situation, confident in the "jacked" exterminator.
Hour 1 Jerry and Willie Colon fill in for Boomer and Gio. The Mets bounced back, despite another poor Kodai Senga start (the new human rain delay), scoring many runs with two outs. Mark Vientos is red hot, and Willie says it's time for the Mets to stack wins; Sean Manaea needs to step up tonight. The game was delayed for 10 minutes because the Phillies complained about parabolic mics. Jerry was impressed with the Mets' response. The Yankees did what they needed to do in a lose-lose series. Andrew Bogusch's first update covers the Yankees' win, Jazz Chisholm's 25th homer, Luis Torrens' 5 RBIs, and Francisco Alvarez's potential rehab assignment. Kodai Senga struggled again. With McLaurin and Hendrickson signed, Micah Parsons is the lone hold-in; Dak Prescott is unbothered, and Jerry Recco believes Jerry Jones will get a deal done. Jerry and Willie discuss paying Parsons with a Cowboys fan and Jerry updates his bat situation (the exterminator was jacked). Hour 2 Jerry and Willie discussed Aaron Rodgers' interview, agreeing he tried with the Jets and expect him to excel in Pittsburgh. Terry McLaurin and Trey Hendrickson secured new contracts. The guys believe the Giants, with Russell Wilson, will surprise people and beat the Commanders. Bogusch provided an update, and Jerry mentioned Willie and Eddie Scozzare considering yoga. The Mets won big, and Cam Schlittler had a good start for the Yankees. Willson Contreras had a dugout meltdown. The hour concluded with a yoga call and a discussion about The Biggest Loser documentary. Hour 3 Willie believes Eddie and Fliegs have untapped athletic potential, but they and Jerry disagree. Jerry wonders what activities people spend a lot on but never master, like golf, with top X responses including sex, marriage, gambling, and skiing. Willie was a bad bowler early in his NFL career. The guys discuss the Jets and Giants' offensive and defensive lines. Bogusch updates on Tommy DeVito being waived by the Giants (Willie and Jerry expect him to be picked up) and plays Rodgers' message to Jets fans. The Yankees and Mets both crushed their opponents. Jerry is concerned about the bullpen tonight if Sean Manaea doesn't pitch deep. LIU is getting paid to play Florida, which helps financially, but Jerry and Willie worry about injuries. Finally, Jerry looks at examples of athletes with one standout season and surprising attendance numbers. Jerry thinks Raleigh, not Aaron Judge, should be MVP. Hour 4 The final hour discusses the Mets' win, Willie's concerns about Mendoza's team, and the Jets possibly claiming Tommy DeVito. Jerry and Willie debate why some college players fail in the NFL and agree not to rush Jaxson Dart. Bogusch's update covers DeVito's cut, the Jets' receiver search, and Yankees/Mets blowout wins. The show also questions Ohio State banning Dave Portnoy, features Willie the Yogi, and concludes with a dessert debate: key lime pie vs. chocolate, and cone vs. cup.

Munaf Manji and Griffin Warner talk MLB betting for Friday. Munaf Manji opens by previewing the weekend MLB slate, noting tightening division races and their current 6-0 best bet streak, aiming to match last year's 10-0 run. Griffin Warner jokes about his long commute before they dive into Friday's matchups. They start with the Cubs hosting the Pirates, Braxton Ashcraft versus Colin Rea, Cubs -196, total 9. Griffin cites Pittsburgh's weak road offense and bullpen reliance, favoring Chicago, possibly the under if the wind is in. Munaf highlights Chicago's strong record after losses, with Rea solid at home, backing Cubs -1.5 at -105. For Phillies at Nationals, Zach Wheeler faces MacKenzie Gore, PHI -175, total 8. Griffin notes Wheeler's home run troubles but likes the over; Munaf recalls Gore's two earlier meetings with Philadelphia and prefers PHI -1.5. In Texas at Toronto, Jacob deGrom meets Chris Bassitt, TOR +101, total 7.5. Griffin declares the Rangers' season “cooked” and picks Toronto, telling an “inside the pork” joke. Munaf cites Bassitt's dominant home record and leans Blue Jays and under. Miami at Boston sees Sandy Alcantara against Lucas Giolito, BOS -163, total 9. Griffin doubts Alcantara's form and leans over; Munaf notes his road over trend and favors BOS team total and full game over. Atlanta at Cleveland has Hurston Waldrep against Joey Cantillo, CLE -120, total 9. Griffin cites ATL injuries and poor road form, liking Cleveland; Munaf notes Atlanta's 23-38 road record and backs CLE. Seattle at New York Mets features Luis Castillo versus Sean Manaea, NYM -111, total 8.5. Griffin distrusts the Mets' bullpen, leaning Seattle; Munaf notes Mariners' road success in Castillo starts but with some caution. Baltimore at Houston matches Brandon Young against Framber Valdez, HOU -243, total 8. Griffin doubts Young's MLB quality; Munaf cites HOU's 8-3 home record with Valdez, backing -1.5. Chicago White Sox at Kansas City pits Aaron Civale against Noah Cameron, KC -180, total 9. Griffin dislikes KC as a home favorite but doubts CWS; Munaf sees value on CWS. Yankees at Cardinals has Luis Gil versus Andre Pallante, NYY -126, total 9. Griffin says STL sold key pieces; Munaf sees Gil in form and likes NYY. Arizona at Colorado, Brandon Pfaadt against Tanner Gordon, ARI -180, total 12. Griffin calls Pfaadt unpredictable, leaning over; Munaf notes Coors Field overs profitable, siding with over and slight COL lean. Angels at A's has Yusei Kikuchi versus Jack Perkins, near-even odds, total 10. Griffin favors whichever is underdog; Munaf leans under due to Kikuchi's poor road record. Tampa Bay at San Francisco pits Joel Boyle against Landen Roupp, SF -122, total 8. Griffin notes SF's poor offense and Boyle's HR issues, liking TB plus money; Munaf favors SF for Roupp's form. For best bets, Griffin takes Guardians -120 over Braves, citing motivation disparity, while Munaf picks Cubs -1.5 against Pirates based on their strong post-loss performance and Rea's reliability. We talked about the Mets and Yankees and Starling Marte getting injured while seemingly taking a pitch. The Mets should have Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga back before the all star break for one start each. Jerry didn't feel any buzz from this Subway Series. The Knicks still have not had a press conference for new head coach Mike Brown. We talked about women taking down their shorts at the beach, but how that would be unacceptable at a Target. Last Thursday, Keith Hernandez told us he recently needed to use a plunger and it worked out great. Joe Benigno's Saturday show now starts at 5am and it appears to be too early for him. The Moment of The Day: Al is going to Montana but has nothing planned. In the final segment of the show, Jerry feels like he may have gotten fleeced.
Hour 1 - Boomer & Gio are out this week, so Jerry Recco and Willie Colon hosted, starting with the Subway Series, where the Mets nearly beat the Yanks if not for Cody Bellinger's incredible catch. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was tossed arguing bad strike calls, and Pete Alonso is skipping the HR Derby. Juan Soto's All-Star snub was also a topic. C-Lo gave his first update, including Dave Sims' call of the Bellinger catch, as the Yankees snapped a six-game losing streak. Evan Roberts is vacationing in Paris, posting Mets win videos and a Rico Brogna podcast. Al is off to Montana with no plans, and Jerry discovered professional pillow fighting. The hour concluded by discussing Aaron Boone and the Yankees' struggles, suggesting they won't run away with the AL East. Hour 2 - A caller to Sal Licata blamed WFAN and the media for players struggling in New York, citing their success after leaving. Willie Colon shared his own experiences with media criticism during his time with the Jets and in Pittsburgh. C-Lo then delivered an update, highlighting the Yankees' win over the Mets, including another Aaron Judge home run and Cody Bellinger's impressive catch and double play. There was also a segment on Anthony Volpe's father confronting fans in the stands who were criticizing his son, with audio of Sal's exchange with the caller on player criticism. The hour concluded with a caller mentioning Montana's attractions, specifically that you can drive to North and South Dakota from there. Hour 3 - The show continued its discussion on player criticism, especially for high-salaried athletes, balancing expectations with the reality of performance. Upcoming Jets and Giants seasons, with Aaron Rodgers' Week 1 return to MetLife, were also reviewed. C-Lo delivered an update, but not before Jerry and a caller had a brief argument. Evan Roberts recorded a "Rico Brogna" podcast from Paris while scoring a game at the airport, and Pete Alonso will be in the All-Star game but not the HR Derby. The hour ended with Jerry introducing a guessing game about an X post and a conversation with the new intern. Hour 4 - The show covered Starling Marte's injury and the Mets' anticipated return of Sean Manaea and Kodai Senga, while Jerry noted a lack of buzz for the Subway Series. The Knicks still haven't held a press conference for new head coach Mike Brown. A humorous discussion ensued about social norms regarding public attire. C-Lo's final update focused on the Yankees' win over the Mets, featuring Cody Bellinger's excellent defense. Other topics included Keith Hernandez's recent success with a plunger, Joe Benigno's seemingly too-early 5 AM Saturday show, and "The Moment of The Day" highlighting Al's unplanned Montana trip.
