Abi Millar grew up in a charismatic evangelical church where faith once felt vivid, immediate and full of certainty. But as questions about science, belief, heaven and hell began to press in, that certainty slowly unravelled. In this conversation, Tim talks with Abi about what it cost to leave, the freedom and loss that followed, and the spiritual hunger that eventually re-emerged after a long season of atheism. They also talk about some of the practices Abi explores in her book The Spirituality Gap — including yoga, ayahuasca, tarot and meditation — and the tension between scepticism and openness that runs through her journey. Along the way, the conversation touches on rootedness, community, cultural integrity, and the question of whether spirituality can truly flourish without a shared story or tradition. Following the interview, Nomad hosts Tim and Nick reflect on the burden of heaven and hell, the freedom and loss of leaving evangelical faith, and the search for meaning beyond certainty. They also explore what Abi's journey raises about psychedelics, tarot, rootedness, and the limits of highly individual spirituality.Interview starts at 10m 34sBooks, quotes, links →The creation of Nomad's thoughtful, ad-free content is entirely funded by our equally thoughtful and wonderful listeners. Jenny Millar is the CEO and Founder of Untapped Pricing, and Ann Padley is a Senior Strategy Consultant at Untapped Pricing. Together, they are the co-authors of The Pricing Sprint, a practical framework that helps organizations make better pricing decisions through customer insight, behavioral science, and cross-functional alignment. In this episode, Jenny and Ann explore why pricing is ultimately a human problem—even as AI becomes more capable of analyzing data, running scenarios, and optimizing decisions. If you're responsible for pricing, product strategy, or commercial growth, this episode will change how you think about behavioral pricing, customer decision-making, and why human behavior still wins in the age of AI. Why you have to check out today's podcast: Learn why pricing problems are often people problems—not pricing problems. Discover how small changes in pricing presentation, packaging, and choice can increase willingness to pay. Understand why AI can improve pricing decisions, but human judgment still drives great pricing. "Most pricing problems aren't pricing problems. They're human behavior problems." — Jenny Millar Topics Covered: 01:20 – Why Great Pricing Starts With Human Behavior, Not Spreadsheets. How human-centered design helps companies create pricing that customers actually understand and respond to. 03:59 – Are Buyers Irrational? The Debate Every Pricing Team Needs to Hear. Why customer decisions aren't always driven by logic—and how pricing teams can use that reality to their advantage. 10:19 – The Hidden Link Between Behavioral Economics and Willingness to Pay. How customer perceptions, context, and price presentation influence what buyers are actually willing to spend. 12:15 – The Pricing Sprint: A Faster Way to Improve Pricing Decisions. Jenny and Ann break down their practical framework for testing, validating, and implementing pricing changes with confidence. 16:19 – Why Companies Consistently Misjudge Customer Value. The internal biases and assumptions that cause businesses to leave money on the table—and how to uncover what customers truly value. 21:50 – Who Should Own Pricing? Solving One of Business's Toughest Questions. Why pricing often falls between departments and what successful companies do differently to create alignment. 26:51 – Can AI Improve Pricing Without Replacing Human Judgment? Where AI can help pricing teams move faster—and where human insight remains irreplaceable. 28:11 – Why the Way You Present a Price Can Matter More Than the Price Itself. Real examples of how small changes in pricing presentation can drive revenue growth without changing the underlying price. Key Takeaways: "When behavioral pricing is done right, it actually leads to higher customer satisfaction and better customer experience." – Ann Padley "Most pricing problems aren't pricing problems—they're human behavior problems." – Jenny Millar "Loss aversion, status quo bias, and misaligned incentives are all shaping pricing decisions inside a company." – Jenny Millar "Every dollar that flows into an organization is the result of a pricing decision." – Jenny Millar Resources Mentioned: The Pricing Sprint - The new book by Jenny Millar and Ann Padley that outlines a human-centered approach to pricing, combining behavioral science, customer research, experimentation, and cross-functional decision-making. Dan Ariely - Behavioral economist and author of Predictably Irrational. Referenced during the discussion about whether buyers are truly rational in their decision-making. Steven Forth - Founder of Ibbaka and longtime pricing thought leader. Mentioned during the discussion about the possibility of AI agents eventually becoming buyers and negotiating on behalf of humans. eBay — Jenny's former employer, where she spent 10 years in pricing analytics and pricing strategy roles, helping shape pricing for a multi-billion-dollar business. University of Bristol Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship - Referenced as part of Ann's background in human-centered design, innovation, and behavioral science. Behavioral Economics - Referenced throughout the episode as the study of how psychological factors influence decision-making, willingness to pay, and pricing perceptions. American Institute of CPAs - Personal Financial Planning (PFP)
What if the biggest barrier to client action is not the quality of the financial plan, but the lack of purpose behind it? In this episode, Cary Sinnett sits down with Andrea Millar to explore how life planning helps financial planners move beyond technical recommendations and uncover what truly matters most to clients. Andrea shares how deeper conversations around purpose, relationships, fulfillment, and meaning can lead to stronger engagement, clearer decision-making, and more intentional financial behavior. Together, Cary and Andrea discuss how CPA financial planners can integrate life planning concepts into existing client relationships without abandoning technical precision. Questions Answered Why do some clients fail to follow through on financial advice? How can planners uncover what truly matters most to clients? Why do "soft skills" often improve technical planning outcomes? How can advisors begin incorporating life planning concepts into their existing process? Key Takeaways Clients are more likely to act on recommendations when financial advice connects to personal meaning and purpose. Technical expertise becomes more powerful when paired with deeper discovery conversations. Human-centered guidance may become even more valuable as AI advances in technical planning. It was a successful end to the 2025-2026 season for several CanMNT players, and none more than Liam Millar, who helped Hull City return to the Premier League after a dramatic promotion final win vs. Middlesbrough. After a long journey to this stage, it's a huge moment for Millar, who will look to carry that good feeling into what he hopes is a good World Cup for Canada, before hopefully lacing up his boots in the EPL this fall. Alex, Ben and Brendan dive into all other happenings related to Canadians playing abroad, including the upcoming Concacaf Champions Cup final, which will feature CanMNT winger Marcelo Flores, who is hoping to help Tigres UNAL to a big win vs. Toluca, before closing out the show with some talk about the Canadian MLS teams. Alphonso Davies's injury troubles have continued, as the CanMNT captain picked up another muscle problem while playing for Bayern Munich, one that is serious enough to put his World Cup participation with Canada in doubt. Now, he faces a race against the clock to return to full fitness, and even if that goes well, it's hard to imagine him being at his best this summer, which could affect the CanMNT's plans. In better news, however, some other Canadians are thriving abroad, including Jacob Shaffelburg, Liam Millar and Cyle Larin - in particular, there will be a lot of Canadian interest in the EFL Championship promotion final this weekend, with Millar's Hull City and Larin's Southampton set to face off in football's most lucrative match (unless Southampton's spygate scandal opens the door for Alfie Jones and Middlesborough to get back into the promotion mix). Elsewhere, some key CanWNT players are also thriving in the NWSL, which is good news for Casey Stoney as she continues to get set for the next Canadian Women's National Team camp. Hosted on Acast. This month we were delighted to be joined by a colleague from Social and Cultural Anthropology at University of Helsinki. Stefan Millar is a Social Anthropologist who specializes in the state, migration, colonialism, and infrastructures. Stefan is currently a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care. Our conversation focused most directly on Stefan's PhD research, which examined the role of the state in the context of Kakuma Refugee Camp in Northern Kenya. Stefan has focused on the state and infrastructures within the space of the refugee camp. Stefan gives us insight into his personal trajectory and how he got interested in the long durée implications of colonialism. In his current work in Kenya, he is looking at urban infrastructures that refugees create to mitigate the end of aid (US Aid and the withdrawal of European aid), especially in relation to food and water. Stefan is interested in how people navigate this context and what alternatives they develop to continue surviving under the conditions of redistribution of aid. On the theoretical side, we talked extensively about Stefan's critique of Giorgio Agamben's state of exception. Join us for this layered and exciting conversation!Interested to learn more about Stefan's work? https://www.helsinki.fi/en/about-us/people/people-finder/stefan-millar-9472907 Want to read Stefan's PhD dissertation? https://researchportal.helsinki.fi/files/254098602/1._EncampedStatesMillar.pdf KANERE, Kakuma based journalism:https://kanere.org/about-kakuma-refugee-camp/KRIN, network for Kakuma based refugee-led organizations:https://reframe.network/rlo/kakuma-kalobeyei-refugee-led-initiatives-kkrin

Arthur talks an afternoon with Dean and a vist from his girlfriend and we discuss Toronto and Canada in the 20's and 30's and the introduction of a millionaire with no heirs and a wicked sense of humor who died on October 31st 1936 and for the next ten years set off a fertility contest that became talked about all over the world. All while Toronto desperately tried to hold onto it's Toronto the Good identity in this too much money, a will can be binding and a joke, more fun in Canada than you thought you could have episode of the Family Plot Podcast.(Slight correction, Dean at one point claims the original Forever Knight was set in New York and filmed in Toronto. This week on History's Greatest Idiots (Featuring Peter of In The Wheels), we explore two Scottish success stories: cyclist David Millar's fall from grace and redemption, and comic writer Mark Millar's controversial rise to Hollywood riches.Born 4th January 1977 in Malta, David Millar burst onto cycling's scene in 2000, winning the Tour de France prologue and wearing the yellow jersey. He won four Tour stages and became the first British rider to wear the leader's jersey in all three Grand Tours. On 23rd June 2004, whilst dining in Biarritz, French police arrested Millar. They found empty EPO phials and syringes. Millar confessed to doping in 2001 and 2003. He was banned for two years, stripped of his 2003 World Championship, and fired by Cofidis.Returning in 2006, Millar transformed into cycling's most vocal anti-doping advocate. He served on WADA's Athlete Committee, became peloton spokesperson during Operación Puerto, and proved he could win clean with stages in the Vuelta, Giro, and a 2012 Tour victory. He achieved almost identical results in both halves of his career, retiring in 2014.Born 24th December 1969 in Coatbridge, Mark Millar became one of comics' most successful and divisive figures. After The Authority and The Ultimates (Time's "comic book of the decade"), Millar created Millarworld, designing properties to sell to Hollywood. Wanted, Kick-Ass, and Kingsman became films before issues appeared. Netflix purchased Millarworld in 2017.Critical reception has been harsh. Old Man Logan was called "grotesque" and "without substance", Kick-Ass criticised for undermining its premise, Nemesis dismissed as shock value. When asked about using assaults as a plot device, Millar said: "The ultimate act that would be the taboo, to show how bad some villain is..."Politically, Millar supported Brexit as a path to Scottish independence, then resigned from Labour in 2025, calling Keir Starmer's government "nightmarish, totalitarian."Two Millars. One rebuilt his reputation through honesty. The other built a Hollywood empire on controversy.David Millar: From Yellow Jersey to Prison CellMark Millar: Comics, Controversy and Self-Promotionhttps://www.patreon.com/HistorysGreatestIdiotshttps://www.instagram.com/historysgreatestidiotshttps://buymeacoffee.com/historysgreatestidiotsArtist: Sarah Cheyhttps://www.fiverr.com/sarahchey

fWotD Episode 3167: Poisoning of Margaret Warden Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Monday, 5 January 2026, is Poisoning of Margaret Warden. In September 1826, Margaret Warden, a young servant girl living near Dundee, Scotland, died of arsenic poisoning. She was pregnant at the time of her death; the father was George Smith, the son of Warden's employers, Mary and David Smith. The attending doctor initially thought Warden died of cholera, but rumours of poisoning soon spread and she was exhumed. Her stomach contents were tested; arsenic was found, and Mary Smith was committed in October for trial in Edinburgh for her murder. Her defence advocates called nearly fifty witnesses, and the trial was delayed twice to allow the prosecution time to prepare. When the trial began on 5 February, the illness of a juror led to the trial being restarted on 19 February with a new jury. The advocates for the defence included Francis Jeffrey and Henry Cockburn, both leading Scottish advocates of the day; the prosecution was led by William Rae, the Lord Advocate. Testimony at the trial made it clear that Smith had given Warden something to drink shortly before she became ill. The defence called witnesses who testified that Warden had said she would "do some ill to hersel" and similar statements that implied she might have committed suicide. The medical evidence for the presence of arsenic was questioned by the defence, but in his instructions to the jury, the judge, David Boyle, told them that they should accept as fact Warden's death by arsenic, and consider whether it had been administered by Smith. Boyle's instructions concluded at 5:30 a.m. on 20 February, about twenty hours after the trial began. At 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, the jury returned a verdict of not proven, acquitting Smith of the crime. The trial was described in 1923 by the historian A. H. Millar as "in several particulars ... the most remarkable trial that ever took place in Scotland". It was the subject of much contemporary interest, and accounts of it were published that recorded the testimony of the many witnesses who were called. Popular opinion at the time was that Smith, who became known as "the Wife o Denside", was guilty, and ballads were written about the case. One of Smith's own defence lawyers later wrote that he was sure she had committed the murder. The writer Walter Scott attended the reading of the verdict, and had no doubt of Smith's guilt; he commented afterwards that "if that woman was my wife, I should take good care to be my own cook!"This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:37 UTC on Monday, 5 January 2026.For the full current version of the article, see Poisoning of Margaret Warden on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Stephen.

ANGELA'S SYMPOSIUM 📖 Academic Study on Witchcraft, Paganism, esotericism, magick and the Occult
Have you ever lit a candle, whispered an incantation, and watched something uncannily fitting happen days later? Was it magic, or just a well-timed coincidence? In the world of esoteric practice, we are trained to notice patterns, to read signs, to find meaning where others see randomness. But what if some of those connections aren't what they seem? What if we're mistaking correlation for causation, and calling it magic? In this video, we're diving into the most seductive illusion in both magic and conspiracy thinking: the leap from “this happened” to “I caused it.” Drawing on philosophy, psychology, and the history of occult thought, we'll explore why our brains are wired to see patterns, how magical fallacies take root, and how to practise with both conviction and discernment. If you want to refine your craft, sharpen your thinking, and avoid the traps that turn meaningful magic into wishful thinking, stay with me. This might just be the most important spell you ever learn.CONNECT & SUPPORT

From a small-town upbringing to becoming a prominent figure in the golf apparel industry, Knotty explains how he got started in the clothing business, slingin' sweaters from a rural NC town.We get into discussions about how the shift happened from men's luxury apparel to golf, driven by opportunities at the PGA show. We talk about social media influencers and how they're helping build brand awareness among brands on the reg. The fun talk picks up where we switch over to his current CMO role at Johnnie-O. We touch on the brand's expansion and introduction of innovative products that weren't released in the past.We turn the show over and chat golf and unfortunately, Pepe's camera and mic overheat (fail!) so we lost him. Bash and Knotty finish out the show with an impromptu tap-in segment to finish the show. Tune in, share, and hear from a great business-minded leader who cares about what we wear! We get into Lacan and the Real, Symbolic, and Imaginary. Freud on repression and desire. Žižek on ideology and enjoyment. Then we push these ideas onto LLMs, from “hallucinations” and fantasy, to whether machines can “want,” to Big Other dynamics, creativity, safety, and the politics around AI.In The Backroom on Patreon, Isabel and I talk about love in the age of Artificial Intelligence, AI girlfriends, sexbots, and how OnlyFans and prostitution relate to the psychoanalytic understanding of Sexuality itself, which is different from the conventional understanding of sex. Andrea Millar, CPA/PFS, thought she knew what really mattered. Getting good grades in school and going above and beyond at work were part of her being. But she came to the realization that work was consuming her life, at the expense of other things she cared about. Millar wrote about that experience, and some of the changes she made to create a more fulfilling life, in a recent JofA article. She also joined the JofA podcast to discuss the topic. What you'll learn from this episode: An explanation of how work can "unconsciously" take over our lives. Understanding the "default state" of being and how it can explain why we might overwork. How a shift to the "experiencing stage" allows us to align time and energy differently. Why Millar stresses self-awareness as an important first step of changing habits. The award that Millar's article won in a recent media and publishing competition.

Strangers and Aliens: Science Fiction & Fantasy from a Christian Perspective
HOLLYWOOD AND THE PROFESSOR by Dr. Albert E. Millar (published posthumously by his daughter, Dr. Heather E. Millar) tells the story of a man and an alien; of a self-published pamphlet and a big-budget blockbuster; of a college professor and a corporate law department. When Dr. Millar published a small pamphlet with 33 similarities between […]

As we will see, much of the AI/AGI hype regarding AI "thinking" and "becoming conscious" is a byproduct of a limited understanding of the human psyche itself, which psychoanalysis is key for unpacking. In The Backroom on Patreon, Isabel and I talk about love in the age of Artificial Intelligence, AI girlfriends, sexbots, and how OnlyFans, online porn, and prostitution relate to the psychoanalytic understanding of sex. Why psychoanalysis treats sex less as “biology” and more as a knot of desire, lack, and fantasy.Timestamps:00:00:00 Sexbotification, AI Girlfriends, & more (The Backroom Preview)00:03:55 The Importance of Psychoanalysis, Lacan & Freud00:14:45 The Stupidity of Intelligence, The Unconscious, Drive vs Desire00:20:43 Can AI "think"? Skating is the foundation of hockey and mastering it early can shape a player's entire career. In this episode, Brenden sits down with Britney Millar, founder of Millar Power Skating, to break down when and how to introduce your kids to power skating, why it's such an essential part of development and how the training evolves as players move up the ranks. Britney shares her insight from years of working with athletes at every level — from first-time skaters to elite prospects — and explains what separates good skaters from great ones. They discuss everything from building proper technique and balance to correcting bad habits and maintaining confidence on the ice. Whether you're a hockey parent, coach, or player looking to sharpen your edge, this conversation offers valuable advice and a deeper look into how strong skating can unlock every other part of your game Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome back to Black Hoodie Alchemy, folks! This week, we have a huge wild-card episode with the only political show I've ever done and probably will ever do. Really, the whole point is actually approaching politics from an apolitical standpoint. There really are no politics -- there are just common people and the ultra elite. The vermin and exterminators. Anarchism (society without structured rule) sounds nice at times, but it will inevitably create a power vacuum. Communism might sound nice in theory but never in practice. Capitalism, what seems like our best option, has become a system that feeds off its weak and impoverished by necessity. Republicans and Democrats (and any other political party for that matter) seem to be so far up their own asses that they're tickling their tonsils... So where does that leave us -- the vermin class that all these parties and politicians are constantly trying to divide and conquer? Unless we band together like the rats, the roaches, and the vermin we are, we're all fucked. To help guide us this episode I read the latest release, a small "chapbook of prose poetry" written by my dear friend and colleague, Eric J. Millar of Outlet Press and We the Hallowed Media. The title of this work is PEST CONTROL: MEDITATIONS ON THE VERMIN CLASS, and this will actually mark the third episode in a row where I read from Eric's various works, which was unintentional but something I am more than happy to do! The first were part 1 and 2 of the Four Color Grimoire, and since this latest work of his impacted me so sincerely with its striking imagery, I felt that this was as good a time as any to round home plate with one more Millar brain-child! Good things come in threes anyway.BAND TOGETHER.
