When the East India Company surrendered Fort William (in modern-day Kolkata) to the Nawab of Bengal on 20th June, 1756, dozens of British captives were imprisoned in a cell measuring only 18ft long and 14ft wide, with just two tiny windows - ‘the Black Hole of Calcutta'. Among the prisoners was John Zephaniah Holwell, whose pamphlet describing the terrors of the airless room caused a sensation back in Britain and became a cause célèbre in the idealization of imperialism in India. Holwell claimed 123 men lost their lives in the cell, although it is now thought the number of deaths was exaggerated. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly uncover Holwell's mixed feelings around colonialism; consider how ‘the black hole of Calcutta' became an enduring term of phrase; and reveal what connected Kolkata with Olly's home village in Hertfordshire… Further Reading: • ‘A Genuine Narrative of the Deplorable Deaths of the English Gentlemen, and Others, who Were Suffocated in the Black-Hole in Fort-William, at Calcutta, in the Kingdom of Bengal, in the Night Succeeding the 20th Day of June, 1756, in a Letter to a Friend - By John Zephaniah Holwell' (A. n this episode of Psychedelics Today, kicking of Psychedelic Science 2025 week in Denver, we sit down with Jonathan Dicksinson, Chief Executive Officer, and Trevor Millar, Chief Operations Officer of Ambio Life Sciences – one of the world's leading ibogaine clinics – to explore the potential of ibogaine for addiction, neuroregeneration, and how ethics, honoring experience, and sustainability will be key to delivering ibogaine at scale. Trevor shares his early work supporting marginalized populations in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, which led to the founding of Liberty Root, one of Canada's first ibogaine clinics. Jonathan reflects on his apprenticeship in Mexican clinics, years of international advocacy with the Global Ibogaine Therapy Alliance, and drafting the first set of clinical guidelines for ibogaine detoxification. Together with paramedic and ibogaine safety protocols expert Jose Inzunza, they co-founded Ambio in Tijuana in 2021. They discuss: The unique safety standards Ambio has pioneered – including industry-wide clinical protocols and magnesium therapy to mitigate cardiac risk. Their scale: over 3,000 patients treated, with 100+ clients per month across five dedicated houses in Baja California. Ambio's groundbreaking neuroregenerative program for Parkinson's, MS, and traumatic brain injury – which has already drawn patients like Brett Favre and Clay Walker. How ibogaine appears to drive profound physiological change – including evidence of TBI reversal as shown in Stanford's 2024 study on Special Forces veterans. Why ibogaine isn't just a molecule – it opens a long-lasting “critical period” of neuroplasticity that must be supported with preparation, integration, and holistic care. The deeper story of sourcing: through his company Terragnosis, Jonathan is the only person with a legal export license for Tabernanthe iboga from Gabon, and Ambio is setting a precedent for reciprocal and ethical global supply chains. Their cautionary perspective on Texas' $50M push toward ibogaine clinical trials – and why the traditional “one drug, one indication” model misses the complexity and promise of psychedelic healing. They also make a compelling case that Ambio is already modeling what the future of psychedelic care should look like – not a single drug in a sterile clinical setting, but a comprehensive, integrated protocol combining preparation, medical oversight, and deep integration. “Start with the end in mind,” Trevor urges – Ambio isn't just part of the movement; it's the blueprint for how ibogaine could be delivered worldwide. Links: Ambio Website: https://ambio.life/ Significant lesion reduction and neural structural changes following ibogaine treatments for multiple sclerosis (Frontiers in Immunology, Feb 2025) Magnesium–ibogaine therapy in veterans with traumatic brain injuries (Nature Medicine, Jan 2024) Ibogaine reduced severe neuropathic pain associated with a case of brachial plexus nerve root avulsion (Frontiers in Pain Research, Aug 2023) Novel treatment of opioid use disorder using ibogaine and iboga in two adults (Journal of Psychedelic Studies, Jan 2020) Clinical Guidelines for Ibogaine-Assisted Detoxification Ambio Life Sciences Launches World's First Clinical Ibogaine Program for Patients With Neurodegenerative Conditions Bios: Jonathan Dickinson is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Ambio Life Sciences. One of the world's leading experts on ibogaine, Jonathan brings over 15 years of experience in clinical care, traditional practice, and psychedelic research to his leadership at Ambio. A Mexico-licensed psychologist and former Executive Director of the Global Ibogaine Therapy Alliance, he authored the field's foundational safety guidelines and has published widely on ibogaine's therapeutic, cultural, and ecological significance. He holds the only active export license for Tabernanthe iboga root, led the first Nagoya-compliant export from Gabon, and was initiated into the Dissoumba/Fang tradition of Bwiti in 2014 and the Missoko tradition in 2022. He has co-authored peer-reviewed research on ibogaine's potential for trauma, TBI, pain, MS, and Parkinson's. At Ambio, he leads strategy, research, and innovation – advancing a globally scalable model of care that bridges tradition, science, and integrity. Trevor Millar is the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder of Ambio Life Sciences. A social entrepreneur and pioneer in ibogaine advocacy and treatment, Trevor brings over a decade of experience supporting individuals through addiction recovery, trauma healing, and post-treatment integration. His background includes co-founding the Canadian Psychedelic Association and serving as Chair of the Board for MAPS Canada. He has co-authored peer-reviewed research on ibogaine's applications for trauma, TBI, and opioid use disorder, and has been featured in award-winning documentaries including DOSED and In Waves and War. Grounded in personal experience and guided by a philosophical approach to healing, Trevor is helping shape a new model for ethical, integrative psychedelic care on a global scale. At Ambio, Trevor leads operations, strategic partnerships, and client experience – bridging clinical care with systems design, education, and public advocacy.

We are sojourners on this planet. So don't ger too comfortable. When we say yes to Jesus, He takes us on this beautiful journey. To transform us, to change us, to multiply us, to grow us. You may have been born a Rwandan, but God doesn't keep you one. He makes you a Kingdom Citizen! The gospel have given us many things. Jesus has given us abundant grace for our lives. He has given us mercy to overcome any sin. He has given us so much redemption for every single one of us. But one thing it doesn't give us is room to pretend. There is no license or option to lie to ourselves. When we pretend to be all good when we are not, God has a problem with that. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. The one thing worse that having the sin in our lives is pretending we don't have it. When we are honest with God it empowers Him over our lives. There is nothing wrong with looking good except when we do it to gain the approval of others. When we are hiding things in our life, we give that thing power. But when we call it what it is, we gain power over that sin. Sins like fear and doubt can gain tremendous power over us unless we call it what it is. We need to understand our responsibility to be honest and empower the Holy Spirit to do its work in our lives.Does our church culture force us to pretend in order to be accepted? Can you be real or do you feel that you have to pretend to protect yourself? Do the people around us encourage honest growth or are we trapped in a cycle of pleasing and approval? Whoever we perform for reveals who we worship.Honesty is a doorway for God! Let's stop pretending. Tell Jesus about it and then listen for His response.

Much of its inspiration comes from Bendis and Millar's very straightfaced Ultimate Fantastic Four comics, Trank threw in a liberal helping of The Fly and Scanners. Join me for My Hinch Distillery Chat with Emma Millar. Emma Millar is a senior distiller since 2020, at the beautiful Hinch Distillery in Co. Down, founded by Dr Terry Cross in 2019. It is clearly a labour of love. The detail and scale of Hinch Distillery really impressed me as Emma showed me around. But all the shiny things don't really matter, unless the spirit they produce is good...... and it really is. Emma showed me the only bonded warehouse onsite, behind the distillery and I'm very happy to report that we won't be running out of Hinch's wonderful whiskey any time soon. Now, for those of you who don't know Scott, he's been helping MSPs since 2016 after experiencing the all-too-familiar frustration of lead generation in his own MSP. As he says, once you're in the room with a prospect, it's usually straightforward to talk about tech, pain points and solutions. The hard bit? Getting in the room in the first place. That challenge became the mission behind IT Rockstars, and today Scott works with hundreds of MSPs around the world, transforming how they attract and engage new business. The heart of our conversation was about practical, real-world tips for MSPs who want to finally get some traction with their marketing. One of the key points Scott made early on was the power of lead gen ads—especially using Meta (yes, Facebook and Instagram), not just LinkedIn. It's a bit counterintuitive, but Meta's algorithm is miles ahead when it comes to identifying and targeting the right people based on behaviour, not just job titles. And with lead forms that open within the feed, the friction for conversion is much lower. Scott shared that they're seeing cost-per-lead figures of £3–£4 for webinar sign-ups, which is incredible when you think about the quality and warmth of those leads. Another gem in this episode was around how to actually use AI in your marketing without it turning into robotic mush. Scott walked us through how he uses tools like Descript and ChatGPT to turn transcripts into blog posts and LinkedIn articles. And the best bit? If you tailor your prompts properly, the output feels more human, more you—and less like it's been churned out by a bot. As we said, it's like baking a cake: if the ingredients are good and you've got the right recipe, the result is going to taste spot on. Scott and I also got into one of my favourite topics: the importance of building a Power Audience. That is, creating a group of people who want to hear from you. Not cold outreach, not spamming inboxes, but an actual audience who've opted in because your messaging resonates. Once those leads are in, that's when the real work starts—nurturing them with regular value-add content, running useful webinars, and having follow-up processes that are simple, human and consistent. MSP marketing doesn't need to be complex, it just needs to be consistent and personal. We touched on the elephant in the room too: SEO. Scott was very open about this—yes, SEO still has its place, especially when you go after low-hanging fruit keywords like “cyber essentials price” (hint hint), but it's not the golden ticket some think it is. Algorithms change, rankings fluctuate, and if you're not careful, you end up building your whole strategy on shifting sand. Instead, focus on what you can control—your content, your voice, and your relationships. There was also a brilliant reminder from Scott that when it comes to lead magnets, the old-school PDF downloads don't really cut it anymore. What's working now are educational, insight-driven webinars, where you show up, deliver real value, and start building that all-important trust. As Scott says, getting uncomfortable—whether that's showing up on camera or hosting a webinar—is often the fastest route to growth. It's not always easy, but it is simple. And finally, a golden nugget to finish: don't just focus on who isn't ready to buy. Many leads aren't in buying mode today, but they might be in six months. Your job is to stay visible, stay valuable, and be the one they remember when they're ready. Nurture, follow up, and—this bit I loved—don't forget the referral goldmine in your list. A formal referral programme can turn a “maybe” into a warm intro with zero ad spend. So, if you're serious about getting your MSP's marketing moving, stop overthinking it. Try a lead gen ad. Run a webinar. And most importantly, play the long game. Scott Millar's insight today is a brilliant reminder that MSP marketing isn't about magic tricks. It's about showing up with the right message, at the right time, to the right people—and doing it in a way that feels natural and honest.
