Adam and Thomas discuss the Yankees' series win over the Blue Jays, which featured an incredible sixth inning with homers from Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge (again!) and Gleyber Torres (what?!) on Thursday night to send George Springer shimmying into the Toronto night. The job isn't done yet. Gotta keep it going this weekend against the Rays. But after that ... are we concerned about Gerrit Cole in the AL Wild Card Game, should the Yankees make it there, given his performance this month? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Leave it to the Yankees to wring every last bit of drama out of this wayward 2021 season. A week after looking so uninspiring against Baltimore and Cleveland that Andrew and Kunj were close to writing them off, they've roped 'em back in with consecutive sweeps of the Rangers at home (yawn) and the Red Sox at Fenway (wait, what?). Giancarlo Stanton went berserk in Boston and suddenly, the Yankees are in the driver's seat of the AL Wild Card race. Of course, for as good as the offense and bullpen look right now, this final week won't be easy. New York faces a tougher schedule than its Wild Card foes and will be tested by the Blue Jays and Rays as 2021 draws to a close. The days ahead are still daunting, but at least the Fenway sweep made the outlook brighter. Other topics beyond the zany pennant race include Gleyber Torres' resurgence, Jameson Taillon and Jonathan Loáisiga's pending returns, Aaron Judge's gross pinky dislocation, and Luis Severino just bringing a damn smile to the co-hosts' faces. There's all that and as always, the Yankee and Mitre of the Week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
Adam and Thomas, once again, are not happy, but that's been most of the discourse surrounding the New York Yankees in 2021. There's something wrong with the culture and identity of this team. And even though they're 3-1 in their last four, all of those games featured unacceptable performances against inferior opponents, with Thursday's loss to the Orioles really driving that point home. We've got issues with the team's drive, Aaron Boone and Gleyber Torres. Why is this still happening? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On today's episode of Locked On Yankees, Stacey discusses Wednesday's come from behind victory in Baltimore and wonders if Chad Green pitches too much, Aroldis Chapman too little and if Gleyber Torres knew there was only one out when he took off from second. The Yankees had their 39th comeback victory on Wednesday in Baltimore and it could have been a disastrous loss thanks to another home run given up by Chad Green in the latter innings. But Brett Gardner said, "Nope. Not on my watch." and blooped his way into Yankees' fans hearts and leading the Yanks to a 4-3 victory. Stacey talks about Nestor Cortes' performance as well and previews tonight's matchup. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The Yankees are in a three way tie for the AL Wild Card spots. Boston and Toronto keep the pressure on every night and the Yankees have won 4-of-5 to keep pace. Gleyber Torres is no longer the SS and Sam and Steve have to wonder what they means for his future in pinstripes. Chad Green is going through on of his phases and can not be trusted in a time where the bullpen needs his most. The guys looks ahead the upcoming games as the season is coming to a close.
Gio makes sure Boomer knows about all the good he plans to do this weekend while drinking and relaxing of course, Boomer wants to send his radio partner to a Jets game of his choice, drag queens, Jerry Recco's update, Giants will be in Washington tonight, Yanks beat the O's, Gleyber Torres looks lost, Mets lost to the Cardinals and are a 'dead team' walking, Evan Roberts took Al's criticism to heart, fixing for a fun September (but then what?!?!), another notable Steve Cohen tweet which prompts Gio to morph into our old pal, Brodie Van Wagenen. Enjoy... See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Adam Weinrib and Thomas Carannante sit down with the Yankees on a two-game winning streak, tied for the top Wild Card spot. Can they continue racking up wins against subpar competition? Also, Gleyber Torres isn't a shortstop anymore; is this the end of his road, or a Robinson Cano-style roadblock? Who else have the Yankees ruined? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's been a weird, rough stretch for the Yankees since their 13-game winning streak, but Kunj was fortunate enough to miss most of it while on vacation. He returned on Saturday though, and what do you know! It coincided with a Yankees victory to snap the seven-game losing streak. Maybe they were just sad without him. In all seriousness, the Wild Card race has grown much tighter and on Monday morning, the Yankees were out of a playoff spot for the first time in a month. They're back in it now, but remain neck-and-neck-and-neck with the Blue Jays and Red Sox as they trudge on through their run of 20 games in 20 days. The pitching staff still looks tired, Gleyber Torres isn't a shortstop anymore, and we're all just trying to hang in there. But hey, the Yankees have now won three of the last four games. Hope springs eternal! Other topics discussed aside from the playoff race include Jameson Taillon's injury, Domingo Germán and Luis Severino's possible returns (again), a possible farewell to Clint Fraazier, a glimpse at the up-and-down schedule ahead, and Kunj's post-vacation B-Ref WAR update. Oh, and of course, a not-so-modest Yankee and Mitre of the Week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Sep 14 - Gleyber Torres moved off shortstop as the Yankees try to make one final push for the playoffs. Can Gerrit Cole and Aaron Judge carry them some more? And are Aroldis Chapman and Chad Green capable of getting the big outs? All that and more… See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Adam and Thomas discuss the Yankees' loss in the Subway Series to the Mets. Despite a valiant effort, the benches cleared Sunday night when Giancarlo Stanton (while rounding the bases after hitting the game-tying two-run homer) exchanged words with Francisco Lindor. Also, Gleyber Torres is not a shortstop. Gary Sanchez's bat isn't good enough to make up for his horrible defense (arguably the worst play made by a catcher ever on Friday night?). And Gio Urshela has the same amount of errors as hits since coming off the IL. Again, what is going on? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Yankees fecklessly dropped the weekend set against the Orioles in the Bronx. This was supposed to be a "gimme" series. It's borderline unacceptable to do anything but sweep this miserable excuse of a team, let alone dropping two of three. Yankee pitching was a mixed bag as was the offense, Aaron Boone got tossed and made some questionable decisions, and Gleyber Torres got lazy again. There were a few positives like Nestor, Gary, and Stanton, but it was pretty bad overall. Nothing more than a brief venting in this episode. This group has me simply unmotivated again. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bd4robcarbone/support
Thomas Carannante squeezed in one last quick-hitter before the weekend and talked about Andrew Velazquez's roster spot being safe despite Gleyber Torres' imminent return, John Sterling being rescued from a flooded car during Hurricane Ida, and the Red Sox discovering Garrett Whitlock on ... Thomas is hosting the podcast solo again as Adam enjoys vacation. In this one, the Yankees' 13-game winning streak coming to an end as well as the series split with the Athletics is covered. The fans? We gotta talk about them again. Simply cannot be complaining after a 21-6 run. It's not allowed. Also ... can we chat about Gleyber Torres? What's his future with the team looking like? The New York Yankees have some "good" problems right now with roster depth and worthwhile contributors, but changes need to be made in some capacity. What happens to Andrew Velazquez when Gleyber Torres returns? Does Nestor Cortes keep a rotation spot through the postseason if the Bombers make it? How often are we going to see Luke Voit on a weekly basis? The Yankees also owned the Twins and made Josh Donaldson look like a child. Time to celebrate nine straight wins! The Yankees will play the White Sox this weekend without the following players and pitchers: Gary Sanchez, Anthony Rizzo, Gleyber Torres, Gio Urshela, Gerrit Cole, Jordan Montgomery, Domingo German, Aroldis Chapman and Clay Holmes. Aaron Hicks is out for the season, Luis Severino is still on his way back from Tommy John surgery and Corey Kluber hasn't started a game in nearly three months. If the Yankees were to get in the postseason and ever get healthy, they would have the best roster in the playoffs. But will they ever get healthy?White Sox Dave of Barstool Sports joined me to talk about the upcoming three-game series, the Field of Dreams and the state of White Sox as they sit back and wait for October.
Andrew and Kunj discuss a promising 5-2 week of Yankees baseball that featured some pretty great games bookended by a couple frustrating ones. On the bright side, they mostly took of business with Baltimore before nabbing three of four from the Wild Card rival Mariners over the weekend. They were legitimately fun wins! The team is doing as much as it can to hang in the race despite setbacks elsewhere, and rookie Luis Gil has been key to that excitement in the past week. Speaking of those setbacks, the Yankees lost even more players due to COVID positives and injury. Down went Gary Sánchez and Anthony Rizzo, joining Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery on the COVID-IL. Down went Aroldis Chapman and Gleyber Torres to standard baseball nicks and bruises. The episode was recorded when the Yankees still thought that Gio Urshela's return was imminent, but now that's pushed back as well. Joy. Nonetheless, the Yankees are hanging in there, and while the rehab is understandably slow, there could be help on the horizon. Urshela's delay shouldn't be long and both Luis Severino and Corey Kluber are in the midst of rehab assignments. Fingers crossed that they go well and that those afflicted by COVID recover soon. As always, the co-hosts end the show with "Meet a Baby Bomber," in which we meet the rookie reliever duo of Stephen Ridings and Brody Koerner, and then wrap up with the Yankee and Mitre of the Week. Adam and Thomas discuss the Yankees' encouraging series win over the Mariners despite the roster troubles they're currently enduring. There's a lot to be excited about (Luis Gil, Stephen Ridings!!), but also a lot to be worried about (Gleyber Torres, Anthony Rizzo). Let's talk through it ... but not before we make fun of the Red Sox for collapsing in epic fashion against the Blue Jays (who we're also worried about)! Andrew and Kunj are back on the PSA Podcast beat this week, and the weekend in Boston went so poorly that the two-game mini-sweep of the Phillies wasn't mentioned even once. That's how much of a great time the Yankees had at Fenway, where Chad Green, Jonathan Loaisiga, and Brooks Kriske all experienced spectacular meltdowns in a four-game series loss that probably sank the Yankees out of AL East contention in 2021. FanGraphs has the preseason AL favorite's odds of winning the AL East all the way down at 3.5 percent, with just over a one-in-three chance to even make the Wild Card Game. Delightful. There's also the Trade Deadline to discuss this week, as it looms on Friday afternoon. Will the Yankees still choose to buy? Will they pursue a strategic retool? Who could reasonably be put on the market? The co-hosts talk those possibilities before moving on to the regular "Meet a Baby Bomber" and "Yankee/Mitre of the Week" segments, featuring Donny Sands, Dermis Garcia, Gary Sánchez, Gleyber Torres, and some miserable members of the Yankees' bullpen. Another month is almost in the books, but the latest episode #206 is already in the books as I escort you through the sports universe with all that it has to offer. On deck: (6:08) Baseball is the last sport standing as we've hit the Sports Dead Zone Pt. 2, with lots of rumors milling around with the Trade Deadline set for Saturday at 4pm. The Rays have fired the first salvo bringing in a bat (Nelson Cruz) as well as, trading P Rich Hill to the Mets. The Padres made a move for All-Star, Adam Frazier to secure their infield. I discuss other big time players that can be on the move (Trevor Story, Javier Baez, Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, Max Scherzer, to name a few) and my take on the Yankees as they should sell, including stars, Gary Sanchez, Gleyber Torres and yes, Aaron Judge with my state of the Bombers this late in the season. I'll explain why. There are some key players coming back (White Sox OF, Eloy Jimenez) and some on the IL (Dodgers OF, Mookie Betts) There's also a new name for one of baseball's oldest teams. I'll update all of the latest pennant races with not too much drama in the AL & NL as of today. (34:08) The Bucks win their first title in 50 years on the shoulders and back of Giannis Antetokoumpo. How does his epic performance rank all time in close out games? Also, the flipside of the Suns setting as they weren't able to secure two more wins after being up 2-0 in the series. Does this affect Chris Paul's legacy? How about Devin Booker? Deandre Ayton? Will they be back in the Finals next year? I'll share who'll be the potential top picks in the upcoming NBA Draft may be. (52:40) The Kraken have completed their draft and filled out a roster for their inaugural season in 2021-22. Were there any surprises as to who wasn't picked by the NHL's newest team? I'll take a look at who was chosen at the top of the NHL Draft this past weekend with a theme of some family lineage tying into two of the teams that are impacted. Also, a huge singing in Colorado with their top defenseman, Cale Makar. Will this be the first domino to fall in order to bring back some of their own free agents (i.e. Gabriel Landeskog & Brandan Saad)? And the league did the Islanders ZERO favors when it comes to the schedule for this upcoming year. You won't want to miss that! (1:05:29) NFL news and notes as training camps open throughout the league including, embattled Texan QB, Deshaun Watson on the trading block? Will some team take the plunge despite the baggage? An update on the Aaron Rodgers saga in Green Bay. A couple of signings in San Francisco and Pittsburgh. A disgruntled pass rusher in Arizona. A tough loss for the Rams with a key offensive player going down for the season. And a memo that spread throughout the league regarding COVID outbreaks within a team and how forfeits of games and loss of paychecks will take place because of players that are unvaccinated. Even a coach received a pink slip for refusing to get the vaccine. I'll be sure to dissect all of that. (1:18:18) A brief update on the Summer Olympics. The USA Men's basketball team have lost their first game since 2004. Is this a sign of bad things to come? And a 13 year old became the second youngest to win a gold...in SKATEBOARDING! (1:21:04) Of course, my Hero and Zero of the Week. At one point, Andrew and Kunj thought that there might not be enough to talk about for a podcast so soon after the most recent edition went live last Thursday. Then, well, Aaron Judge and several other Yankees got COVID, Luke Voit ended up back on the injured list, and suddenly, the Yankees' lineup against the Red Sox featured an outfield of Ryan LaMarre, Greg Allen, and Trey Amburgey. Perhaps the most inexplicable part of this entire development is that after all those losses, the Yankees finally won their first series of the year against the Red Sox. Just the way they planned it, right? Those topics are the main focus of today's podcast, though Andrew and Kunj also find room to praise the resurgent Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon and attempt to be optimistic about Rougned Odor and Gleyber Torres. Who the hell knows what will happen next at this point, so let's just hope the B-squad Bombers can help the team stay afloat in this critical period before the trade deadline. The "Meet a Baby Bomber" segments this week focused on ascending prospect Anthony Volpe (the 2019 first-round draft pick) and Tampa first baseman Eric Wagaman. The Yankees' inconsistent season continued in Boston on Friday with a 5-3 loss to the Red Sox. An all-right-handed lineup only scored three runs off Martin Perez, who is barely in the majors, Scumbag Domingo German and Luke Voit made errors, Gleyber Torres had another 0-for-4 and Phil Nevin got Gio Urshela thrown out at the plate with no outs. If you wanted to sum up the 2021 Yankees in a single game, Friday's series-opening loss would be the perfect example.
