They are the class of the league while in the #americanleague #Yankees & #Tigers seem better than all the other teams. #Braves despite the returns of Spencer Strider & Ronald Acuna can't get it together. There's still time but the injury to AJ Smith-Shawver hurts more than it should. His teammate Chris Sale had his 2,500th strikeout this week in his likely HOF career. We didn't completely agree. #Rockies have not won a series this 2025 #MLB season. They are the fastest team to 5-0 losses in the modern era. So few MLBers get to 3,000 hits for a career. Is a career with 2,500 hits the new 3,000 hit career? Few players even achieve 200 hits in a season. In order to make it to 3,000 hits you'd need to AVERAGE 200 hits for 15 seasons! Some of the less-than-3,000 hits for a career players like Johnny Damon with 2,769 career hits didn't get much HOF consideration. Will that change with time?Intro & Outro music this season courtesy of Mercury Maid! Check them out on Spotify or Apple Music!  Please subscribe to our podcast and thanks for listening! Dan wants to know how many jersey changes Pablo Lopez did during his start, and also wants the Twins to add a Designated Hitter for Keirsey Jr. David wants to know if the offense will pickup with the return of Buxton and Wallner from the IL, and how much will it need to pickup if the pitching stays this dominant. Dan is curious if Royce Lewis weren't Royce Lewis and playing the way he currently plays if he would be sent down. The guys finish up by making their picks for the upcoming Mariners series. RJ Bell, Steve Fezzik, Scott Seidenberg and Mackenzie Rivers talk all things NBA playoffs. Plus, the guys discuss NFL Hard Knocks and give out best bets. In this podcast episode, RJ Bell and his expert panel analyze a historic NBA playoff collapse, strategic betting angles, and key NFL developments. The episode opens with a promotion for discounted picks at pregame.com, spotlighting successful handicappers like Dave Esler and Greg Shaker. The heart of the episode is the New York Knicks' unprecedented collapse against the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Scott Seidenberg recounts how the Knicks lost a 14-point lead in the final 2:45, with the Pacers scoring 23 points in 3:14—an NBA playoff record since 1997. Aaron Neesmith's six 3-pointers in the fourth quarter were the most in any playoff fourth quarter since 1997–98. The panel discusses the psychological and statistical impacts of this loss, with RJ questioning how such a collapse may affect the Knicks' mindset for the rest of the series. McKenzie Rivers and Steve Fezzik explore the zigzag theory in betting, revealing that Game 2's line moved from Knicks -4.5 to -6, despite the traumatic nature of Game 1's finish. Statistical trends support a potential Knicks bounce back: favorites after a Game 1 loss are 59% ATS since 2002, particularly dominant in first quarters. However, McKenzie notes this edge vanishes when teams are closely seeded. Despite the market showing confidence in New York, concerns linger over their seven-man rotation, fatigue after an overtime loss, and historical playoff struggles. RJ emphasizes the Knicks' tendency to crumble under high expectations, comparing this year to the pressure-filled 1994 and 1999 Knicks teams. Attention then shifts to the Oklahoma City Thunder, who dominated the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1. Anthony Edwards was held to 18 points and scoreless in the fourth quarter. The panel credits OKC's elite perimeter defense and deep roster. McKenzie highlights OKC's transition from regular-season darlings to playoff powerhouses, noting they lead the league in turnovers forced and have the lowest turnovers committed. Betting markets reflected OKC's strength; post-Game 1, their series odds jumped from -330 to -675, reflecting a 1–1.5 point market upgrade. In NFL coverage, the panel discusses two major Hard Knocks announcements: the Buffalo Bills will be featured in training camp, while the NFC East will be showcased during the regular season. They also debate the NFL's decision to retain the “tush push” after the Packers' failed attempt to ban it, with Fezzik estimating the Eagles would've been downgraded by half a point without it. Jalen Hurts' rushing TD prop even increased from 9.5 to 10.5 after the rule's preservation. The episode concludes with betting strategies across sports. RJ and Fezzik analyze the Rockies' historically bad MLB season, advocating for under 40 wins. They highlight Colorado's -160 run differential just a third into the season—on pace to break modern records. Additionally, they discuss the Tampa Bay Rays' skewed home-heavy schedule, recommending an under 77.5 wins bet as they face 59 road games in their final 97. The podcast closes with RJ teasing advanced NFL projection models and a “five-pack” of early NFL bets for next week. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for May 21, 2025 is: hapless HAP-lus adjective Hapless means "having no luck." It's a synonym of unfortunate. // The documentary follows a hapless victim of false allegations. See the entry > Examples: "The New York Yankees had a nice, feel-good return to their spring training home this weekend by beating up on the hapless Tampa Bay Rays." — Kristie Ackert, Athlon Sports, 19 Apr. 2025 Did you know? Hapless means exactly what you'd expect it to mean: "without hap"—hap being another word for fortune or luck. Hap comes from the Old Norse word for "good luck," which is also the source of happen and happy. English has several words to describe those lacking good fortune, including ill-starred, ill-fated, unlucky, and luckless, a word formed in parallel to hapless by adding the suffix -less. Ill-starred suggests bringing calamity or the threat of a terrible fate ("the ill-starred year the Great Depression began"). Ill-fated refers only to being doomed ("the ill-fated voyage of the Titanic"). Unlucky and luckless usually apply to a person or thing notably or chronically unfortunate ("an unlucky slots player," "some luckless investors swindled in the deal"). Hapless is often imbued with a touch of pity, humor, or both for those to whom it refers, as in "a hapless goalie who couldn't block a shot to save his life."

This is the final year of Kyle Schwarber's 4-year contract that he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies before the 2022 season. Schwarber should NOT even hit the open market, and the Phillies should be working on a contract extension ASAP. Alec Bohm breaks his homerun drought with his first of the season last night. Nick Castellanos finishes a triple shy of a cycle. Zack Wheeler dominates, once again. And the Phillies win 8-4 over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Marc talks about the Phillies 8-4 win over the Tampa Rays and how it's the type of win we should expect from this team. Their ace dominanted over 7innings of 2run baseball, while their power bats came up with homers. Kyle Schwarber (12), Alec Bohm (1) and Nick Castellanos (4) all hit opposite field homers. The hour concluded with Quinn Ewers' agent's anger over his draft slide, prompting Boomer to contrast his situation with Shedeur's. Hour 3 We announced our Kickoff To Summer at D'Jais in Belmar with a Chris Lane concert. Tonight is game one of Knicks/Celtics, and a caller predicted Villanova grit. They took more excited calls from Knicks fans and wondered where Al would take them to dinner. Boomer playfully called Pritchard a "sonofabitch" in a positive way. Jerry's update included Mike Tirico leaving the Kentucky Derby coverage due to a nut allergy, the Yankees losing another series to the Rays, Cody Bellinger's 200th HR, the Mets' doubleheader loss in St. Louis, SNL's jab at Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson, and Kenny Albert's call of the Jets' double-OT win against the Blues. The hour ended with calls from Knicks fans, one questioning why the Knicks aren't being given a chance. Hour 4 We discussed potential free agency, including Giannis, and the Knicks' future despite their ongoing playoff run, noting their zero wins against the Celtics this year. A caller shared a story about Marc Malusis driving off with the gas pump still attached, prompting similar stories from other callers.
