Ever wondered how to transition from a graphic designer to a full-time artist? This week on "Mind Over Medium," I am thrilled to announce that our podcast is moving to Substack! This platform, with its community-building potential, is the perfect new home for us. To mark the occasion, I have an enriching conversation with Drew Steinbrecher, a celebrated artist known for his work in gel printing, collage, and quilting. Drew opens up about his transition from graphic design to art, sharing the experiences and mistakes that shaped his unique style and drove his success. Our discussion dives into Drew's thought processes behind his artistic choices, including why he chose fiber as his primary medium and the thematic connections in his "Urban Fabric" quilt series. We underscore the importance of writing to add depth to one's work and reflect on the persistence required to shift from a graphic design career to a full-time art practice. Drew's journey is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit needed to find success in a creative field, making this episode an essential listen for aspiring artists. We also spotlight the exciting world of organizing online artist summits, inspired by my experience at Kelly Conrad's event. The Collage Maker Summit and the Gel Printer Summit have been remarkable successes, and we discuss the logistics and benefits of such events. Hear about our upcoming plans, including a free event for beginner gel plate users, and gain insights into balancing creativity and entrepreneurship. Whether you're an artist looking to turn your passion into a business or someone seeking inspiration, this episode is packed with valuable advice and personal anecdotes. Don't miss it!Connect with Drew Here and on Instagram Connect with Lea Ann Here and on Instagram Send us a Text Message.

Victoria, B.C.'s Kelly Conrad is a blogger, BeachBody enthusiast and complex PTSD 'thriver'. The universe dumped the trash bin of her life, forcing her to pick up and examine every piece. We hear her story of overcoming the Negative Olympics to living a grateful, healed and purposeful life. Complex PTSD can develop in response to prolonged, repeated experience of interpersonal trauma. Causing difficulty controlling emotions, feeling very angry or distrustful to the world. Following a severe traumatic brain injury in 2017, she experienced grave emotional dysregulation. We hear about a vicious attack, the loss of a pregnancy and a marriage. Forced to confront traumatic experiences from childhood that amplified attachment issues and in need of answers, she made the decision to do the work. With the help of EMDR, Shaun T's Fitness program and the writings of Brené Brown, Kelly picked up the pieces and wandered her way into health and healing. We talk about secure attachment or lack thereof. We introduce you to the Fab Four of mental illness; bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder and complex PTSD. Kelly introduces us to a new, necessary read by psychotherapist, educator and author Ross Rosenburg titled, The Human Magnet Syndrome. The world is full of landmines and a lack of self love can lead us into being a dissociative disaster. Kelly is an example of recycling trash into a work of art. Kelly blogs at https://iwontgospeechless.wordpress.com If you are digging what you hear every week, you can support us by purchasing a tee or hoodie from our friends at Close Knit Co. Dan and Natalie are screen printing some cool one of a kind tees, crops, tanks and hoodies. Check them out and tell them you heard it here. You can also donate via our PayPalMe page. All the donations go to keeping us releasing new episodes and will allow us to grow. We thank all those who have supported us thus far. We are forever grateful. Until we meet again...be Well, be Safe, be ABOVE

They discuss Marvel Two-in-One #1 (1974), which is a really great comic book but an admittedly bad pick to start this show with. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/manthingminute/message
