“How do you not kill the guy on the toilet?” - Eric On the season 14 finale of We Hate Movies, the gang welcomes actor/comedian/podcaster/author/movie-lover and all-around good guy, Paul Scheer to the show to chat about the sleepy, yet kinda crazy monster movie, Arachnophobia! Why isn't this movie just about John Goodman's exterminator character? Why couldn't the major spider at the end be a huge, dumb puppet monster? How funny is it that this movie doesn't care about those kid characters at all? Why couldn't we see that dumb sheriff eat shit on-screen? Why would you uproot your whole family without being absolutely certain you have that job, Jeff Daniels? And you better believe we're marveling at all the Seinfeld alums in this! PLUS: Just watch Shatner in Kingdom of the Spiders instead of this. Arachnophobia stars Jeff Daniels, Harley Jane Kozak, Julian Sands, Stuart Pankin, Brian McNamara, Mark L. Taylor, Henry Jones, Peter Jason, James Handy, Roy Brocksmith, Kathy Kinney, Mary Carver, Frances Bay, and John Goodman as Delbert McClintok; directed by Frank Marshall. You might think Lexi would decide she had enough on her plate dealing with Tony's corpse while also making sure she didn't lose the business he agreed to in his final moments. But, in fact, seeing Eve rapidly unraveling psychologically just convinces her to add a new scheme to her schedule: she can certainly take advantage of Eve's instability and use it against Amanda! Mark L. Taylor manages to cash another Melrose Place check as Dr. Visconti gets involved. Terry's feelings for Ryan continue to linger, such that she creates a seemingly awkward situation for Megan to walk in on and call off the engagement (again), but surely both McBros will close out the series deliriously happy with the blondes they were always destined to be with...right? Listen to us talk at length about all of this and more in our podcast on "Dead Men Don't Shut Up"! JOIN THE AWT CLUB
If you haven't watched Arachnophobia, you are missing out and should go watch it right now. It's such a fun film and has an amazing cast. Here is the synopsis for those that are unaware of what the film is about... After a nature photographer (Mark L. Taylor) dies on assignment in Venezuela, a poisonous spider hitches a ride in his coffin to his hometown in rural California, where arachnophobe Dr. Ross Jennings (Jeff Daniels) has just moved in with his wife, Molly (Harley Jane Kozak), and young children. As town residents start turning up dead, Jennings begins to suspect spiders, and must face his fears as he and no-nonsense exterminator Delbert McClintock (John Goodman) fight to stop a deadly infestation. Spider's Kiss (homebarmenu.com): Ingredients 1½ oz dark rum ½ oz lime juice 1 dash angostura bitters ½ oz simple syrup ¾ oz cherry liqueur Directions Add the dark rum, cherry liqueur, lime juice, simple syrup, and a dash of Angostura bitters to the shaker filled with ice and shake until chilled. Strain the cocktail into a chilled glass filled with ice and garnish with a gummy spider on the rim of the glass for a creepy touch(optional). Optionally, add a few drops of black food coloring into a shaker with all the ingredients for a darker look. Arachnophobia Drinking Game: Drink when... You see a spider Someone gets bitten Someone dies from a bite A spider gets killed You jump or feel the heebie jeebies John Goodman or Jeff Daniels is a bad ass As always, drink responsibly and with others.
