Similar to Sheila Carrasco, I've been lucky enough to have many lovely short group conversations involving Utkarsh Ambudkar, but I've been itching for a longer one-on-one sit-down with the Ghosts star to discuss his journey in film and television, and it finally happened with the conclusion of the hit CBS show's fourth season.Ambudkar's Jay has been through a lot since Ghosts kicked off in October 2021. He learned his wife (Rose McIver) could see ghosts and powered through countless ghost-sparked shenanigans with Sam serving as the intermediary until he finally got the chance to see them for himself courtesy of an exorcism hiccup. On top of that, Jay's also hit a number of key personal milestones. He opened a B&B with Sam, took a significant step forward with his father (Bernard White), and opened his dream restaurant. Trouble is, Jay also inadvertently signs a deal with the devil at the end of Season 4, a deal that will likely have Elias (Matt Walsh) out to kill him in Ghosts' fifth season. There's much to love about Ghosts, but one of the show's greatest achievements is finding the ideal lead ensemble. Not only does every ghost actor play their role to perfection, but the show is expertly anchored by its living leads - Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar. In fact, the duo are so successful at making Sam and Jay so uniquely their own, it came as a shock when Ambudkar revealed that, initially, he passed on the project. Hosted on Acast. Actress Rose McIver (Ghosts, iZombie, voice of Headgum) joins Nicole to explain New Zealand, why she doesn't post her loved ones on social media, and talk about all the cute, funny other ways people show love. They get into weird animal relationship stories, like the woman in love with a dolphin (who died of heartbreak), the man who tried to live among grizzlies, and Nicole's dream of becoming queen of the whales. I had to wait until December 19th, but I finally got my greatest belly laugh of 2024 courtesy of Ghosts. In "A Very Arondekar Christmas Part 1,” while attempting to fix the water heater, Sam and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) suffer a shock, sparking another possession. Pete (Richie Moriarty) possesses Jay while Rose McIver's Sam, a certified people-pleaser with a big heart who's often quite concerned about what others think of her, is possessed by Betsy Sodaro's Nancy, the super brash Cholera ghost who marches to the beat of her own drum to the fullest. Not only is the idea genius, but McIver and Sodaro's execution of the concept is brilliant. In celebration of the release of the double dose of Christmas special episodes, McIver returned to Collider Ladies Night to look back on some pivotal moments of her career, like working with her acting coaching and moving to Hollywood, and to dig into two unforgettable aspects of these new episodes — McIver channeling Sodaro's one-of-a-kind work as Nancy, and Jay finally being able to see the ghosts. Rose McIver (Ghosts, iZombie) joins us to share the balance between deep gratitude for her career and light hearted levity she needs to bring to the performances in her various diverse roles. Rose talks about her time filming iZombie and Ghosts, noting the unique character building and difficulties that come with shooting both types of series. We also talk about her strength in coping with uncertainty, finding upside in the cards you're dealt, and feeling pride in being ‘worth the flight.' Thank you to our sponsors:

Doubting their horror acting abilities, the comedians write and practice reading horror dialogue with actor Rose McIver (Ghosts, iZombie, The Lovely Bones), who leads a crash course in horror performances. With unexpected help from rom-coms, Rose teaches the hosts how to go from gushy to gory. This interview was recorded before the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Q&A on the CBS series Ghosts with actors Rose McIver, Danielle Pinnock, Asher Grodman, Brandon Scott Jones, Richie Moriarty, Román Zaragoza, Sheila Carrasco, Rebecca Wisocky, and Devan Chandler Long. Samantha, a cheerful freelance journalist, and Jay, an up-and-coming chef from the city, throw both caution and money to the wind when they decide to convert a huge run-down country estate they inherited into a bed and breakfast -- only to find it's inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents. The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes a saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer, a pompous 1700's Militiaman, a '60s hippie fond of hallucinogens and an overly upbeat '80s scout troop leader. If the spirits were anxious about the commotion a renovation and B&B will create in their home, it's nothing compared to when they realize Samantha is the first live person who can see and hear them.

Ghosts marks Danielle Pinnock's very first series regular role. If you've seen even a single episode of the downright delightful CBS show, you're well aware she's making the most of the opportunity and that there's just no better actor for the role of Alberta.Ghosts is an absolute must-see, one of the best new comedy series in recent years, but just in case you're a little late to the game, we've got a primer for you; the CBS show is an adaption of the British series of the same name. In this version, Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar play Sam and Jay, a couple that inherits Woodstone Mansion and hope to turn the property into a B&B.While getting settled, Sam suffers a bad fall and when she comes to, she realizes she can now see Ghosts and that her new home has a whole bunch of them, including Pinnock's Alberta, a Prohibition-era jazz singer who's convinced she was murdered. With Ghosts Season 2 now underway, Pinnock took the time to join us for an episode of Collider Ladies Night Pre-Party to discuss her journey to shining in her very first series regular role. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode of Over the Teacup Sunday: because this is Halloween month we're getting ready for ghosts, goblins, and aliens to get you scared and get interested in the paranormal and supernatural so let's start with two of our favorite shows: GHOSTS: This brilliant CBS comedy premiered last year in 2021, and they have just started their second season which actually premiered on Thursday the 29th of September; it runs every Thursday night. The very simple premise of this half hour program is: a young couple's dreams come true when they inherit a beautiful country house, only to find it's both falling apart and inhabited by many of the deceased previous residents including A Viking, a Native American, a Victorian lady, a Revolutionary War soldier, a man with no pants, a hippie, a singer from the 1920's, and a Boy Scout leader. They are trying to turn it into a bed and breakfast because they came from the big city. It was developed for television by Joe Port and Joe Wiseman and it stars Rose McIver, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Brandon Scott Jones, Danielle Pinnock, Asher Grodman, Sheila Carrasco, Devan Chandler Long and Richie Moriarty as well as a brilliant ensemble cast. RESIDENT ALIEN: This show is about an alien that crash-lands on Earth, kills and takes on the identity of a small-town Colorado doctor, and slowly begins to wrestle with the moral dilemma of his secret mission on Earth, while also dealing with the mayor's young son, who can see his true appearance. They just wrapped season 2 so if you have the opportunity you need to go back and catch up on it. It's another brilliant piece of programming that invites you into the world of aliens and the possibility of what exists out there and combines them in such a manner that it will make you believe. It stars Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, and Levi Fiehler, along with a brilliant ensemble cast. It is set in the ficticious town of patience Colorado. How is it that Kiwi native Rose McIver is so talented, so versatile, and still so nice? Popular most recently for her appearances on IZombie and the current Ghosts on CBS, she has also worked with Peter Jackson on The Lovely Bones and a host of other TV shows (like Masters of Sex) and films—going all the way back to Jane Campion's The Piano--sometimes playing American (flawlessly) and other times letting her natural voice be heard. In any event, she's fun to listen to.

In this week's record-setting 39th episode of the Book and Film Globe Week in Review podcast, Neal Pollack welcomes renowned Star Wars geek Scott Gold to talk about ‘The Book of Boba Fett‘. Neal and Scott, both of whom are still eight years old, are loving the extended looks that the series gives the rancor, the Tusken Raiders, the Twi'leks, and so much more. Scott marvels at how good Jennifer Beals, hidden from us all those years, still looks. And they both praise Temuera Morrison's fantastic performance as Boba Fett, the man himself. They're more divided on the space Vespa-riding “mods,' who seem transplanted from another franchise, but let's not forget that, at its core, this is a series for children.Speaking of not for children, Stephen Garrett comes by to talk about Joel Coen's ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth,' which no children are watching unless their parents are especially brutal home-school tyrants. Stephen has nice things to say about the performances and the occasional strokes of cinematographic genius. But this Macbeth often feels like Shakespeare by the numbers at best. And at worst, it aesthetically resembles a 1980s TV perfume ad.Finally, Paula Shaffer steps into the podcast box to eviscerate the new Hulu sitcom ‘How I Met Your Father,' which is like How I Met Your Mother, only without the star power, catchphrases, or good jokes. This will almost certainly not join the ranks of sitcom legend.Surprisingly, though, ‘Ghosts‘ on CBS has a better shot at longevity. This year's most popular new sitcom is about a bunch of wacky historical ghosts who haunt a millennial couple that inherit an old house. Paula praises the show's goofy, sweet charms, and she loves its star, Rose McIver.Let our podcast haunt you for days! Or at least for a half house. Thanks for listening.

We're continuing our Christmas movie coverage this week with what should only be described as "Christmas Prince II." Rose McIver and Ben Lamb are back in this snowy sequel, but don't worry, Theo Devaney (Simon) and Honor Kneafsey (Emily) are too! John Guerrasio also joins the cast as Rudy. He's still a fan favorite, no matter who plays him!
If you haven't yet watched Ghosts on CBS or the Paramount+ app, you need to right now. This show is so well done! It is an American version of a U.K. series, which is available on HBOMax, starring Rose McIver, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Brandon Scott Jones, Danielle Pinnock, Richie Moriarty, Asher Grodman, Sheila Carrasco, Román Zaragoza, Devan Long, and Rebecca Wisocky. I started the show on a Saturday evening between work and finished it the next day. There are currently 10 episodes and I am ready for more, but I will probably rewatch in the meantime. Paul joins Daniel and Cynthia to discuss the 2017 Netflix rom-com A Christmas Prince starring Rose McIver and Ben Lamb. Should you consider saving someone from wolves as a wooing tactic? What about the role of strategic clumsiness? Would you have to give up being a reporter when you become queen? Most importantly: does this movie give endorphins? Cover art by Paul Saunders, theme song written and performed by by Ali Lipman. Support LRR: http://Patreon.com/loadingreadyrun Romantic movies give us endorphins - even when they suck. Each episode, Cynthia and Daniel (Fight the Future with Dan and Paul) talk about a romantic comedy or romantic drama, digging into both the plot and the romance, and answering questions like: What happens the day after the end of the movie? Which romantic gestures are endearing (ooo!) and which are just creepy (eww!)? Will the couple make it? And does this movie, regardless of quality, deliver the happy-making endorphins we could all use right now?
Natasha Simons, chief A Christmas Prince correspondent for A Christmas Ham, is back to review the third installment of the A Christmas Prince saga from Netflix . We can’t remember any of the characters’ names, but they’re having a baby and that’s great. Merry Christmas! Technical note: We sincerely apologize for some sound quality issues (slight echo at times) that occurred while recording this episode.
Bob Dearden returns for one last victory lap as we talk about his episode “Night and the Zombie City”!
