In this episode of the Embellish podcast, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Jesse Parker, the master blender and one of the founders of Doc Swinson's. Jesse shared his journey into the world of whiskey blending, the challenges of creating unique flavor profiles, and the philosophy behind Doc Swinson's approach to whiskey. Jesse recounted the origins of Doc Swinson's, which started as a pet project within Distillers Way. The team's passion for brown spirits and their encounters with various distilleries led them to buy older stocks of whiskey and experiment with their own brand. Doc Swinson's was born out of a desire to create a signature whiskey that was both entertaining and reflective of their love for the craft. Jesse delved into the intricacies of blending and maturation, emphasizing that their focus is not on distillation but on creating unique blends and finishes. He explained that a significant portion of their production is sourced from M.G.P.I., with whom they've had a symbiotic relationship since 2015. Jesse's passion for barrels and his extensive collection from around the world play a crucial role in the finishing process, which sets Doc Swinson's apart in the market. We discussed the difficulties of naming whiskey releases, a task Jesse finds particularly challenging. He also touched on the importance of transparency in their brand, sharing as much information as possible about their blending and processing methods. Looking ahead, Jesse teased some of the exciting new releases planned for the year, including multi-cask finishes and unique expressions like a rye whiskey finished in rum and tawny port casks. He also mentioned the arrival of rare casks, such as 23-plus-year-old Pinot de Charente casks, which promise to bring new dimensions to their future blends. https://www.docswhiskey.com/ https://www.instagram.com/docswinsonswhiskey/ https://www.facebook.com/DocSwinsonsBourbon https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkx_asWXpaofVsDRNscv7Zg

“Never pick an argument with someone who buys ink by the barrel”. Brock Swinson is a filmmaker, screenwriter, interviewer for Creative Screenwriting Magazine and presenter of Creative Principles Podcast. His new book “Ink by the Barrel - secrets of Prolific Writers” references a quote by William Greener, which suggests that the key to great creativity lies in delivering work in volume rather than waiting to craft the perfect piece. (For example, Brock references movie director Bong Joon-Ho, who directed ten unsuccessful movies about class struggle before finally breaking through with his Oscar-winning masterpiece “Parasite”) Having conducted interviews with over 400 writers, Brock unveils some of the best-kept secrets not only for creative writing but also fueling any creative process. Imagine being a part of an intense courtroom drama. Today, you'll be stepping into the shoes of legal giants, as we explore the intriguing case of Swinson v. Commonwealth. Our conversation zooms in on the concept of harmless error in criminal cases, and the ripple effect it may have on the jury verdict. Often, it's the weight of the evidence and the impact of jury instructions that shape the final outcome. Let's take a journey into the heart of this legal spectacle. We'll also take you behind the scenes of a captivating dialogue between Zagorski and Stalard. They represent the defense and Commonwealth respectively, and their insights on jury instruction in a case involving drug distribution are nothing short of enlightening. Together, we'll probe into the differences between the Commonwealth's and defense's approach, the role of the seemingly harmless error, and how something as simple as the presence or absence of a pager can contribute to the case's narrative. As we draw the curtains on this episode, let's delve into the heart of jury instructions and the careful consideration behind them. From the relevance of expert testimony to the debate on retiring certain factors due to modernization, our discussion leaves no stone unturned. We cast a spotlight on the fact finder's role in weighing these factors, and the potential harm of excluding relevant information from the instructions. Tune in as we dissect this grand courtroom drama and reveal the intricacies of the justice system. It's an episode you won't want to miss! This installment of Tribute seeks to honor the new project from Billy Swinson - Greener Grass. Billy Swinson is a mandolinist / singer / songwriter that performs with regional bluegrass bands in the Florida scene. Originally from Eastern North Carolina with roots in bluegrass festivals and fiddler's conventions in the late 80's and later a member of various bands in the area where he met and performed with some tremendously talented musicians. Bronwyn Keith-Hynes's award winning fiddle playing will satisfy any bluegrass lover. This fiddle playing queen was a great choice for this Billy. Great delivery and drive from the fiddle giving this single an extra tasty layer. Randy Kohrs nails a great Reso break, adding in some solid harmonies. Kohrs also produced and recorded the song. Top quality production. Jason Owen's lead vocals are grassy and very well delivered. Scott Vestal adds his masterful taste, tone, and drive with his banjo track. Aubrey King holds down the rhythm, and all with the help of country icon Josh Turner's full time bassist, Evan Winsor. Tribute comes your way weekdays at 12 Noon Eastern on www.sbbradio.org & locally at 91.7 FM Community Radio.
Ron Swinson is the President of Peach Properties, a real estate development firm located in Columbia, South Carolina. His firm was responsible for restoring the Equitable Arcade, a shopping arcade built in 1912 by a group of businessmen in Columbia including Edwin Wales Robertson, a prominent banker and developer.
