In 1968, after several platinum and gold albums, members of the iconic rock group, The Beatles, found themselves spiritually exhausted.  The enjoyed the fame and the riches that came with it, but wondered "what's it all for."  The group sought answers through the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the leader of the Trancendental Meditation Movement.  They visited the Maharishi's ashram in India in 1968 and the experience had a profound impact on their music. I often wondered what the experience was like for the Beatles and thousands of others seeking enlightenment at the time.  To help me understand the meditation movement and the impact that the Maharishi had on the Beatles, I turned to Susan Shumsky, author of Maharishi and Me: Seeking Enlightenment with the Beatles Guru.  Susan was under the tutelage of the Maharishi for 22 years and served on his personal staff for 6.

“Maharishi & Me: Seeking Enlightenment with the Beatles' Guru” by: Susan Shumsky Susan Shumsky is a successful author in the human potential field. But in the 1970s, in India, the Swiss Alps, and elsewhere, she served on the personal staff of the most famous guru of the 20th century―Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. image Maharishi died in 2008 at age ninety, but his influence endures through the spiritual movement he founded: TM (Transcendental Meditation). Other books have been written about him, but this spellbinding page-turner offers a rare insider's view of life with the guru, including the time the Beatles studied at his feet in Rishikesh, India, and wrote dozens of songs under his influence. Both inspirational and disturbing, Maharishi and Me illuminates Susan's two decades living in Maharishi's ashrams, where she grew from a painfully shy teenage seeker into a spiritually aware teacher and author. It features behind-the-scenes, myth-busting stories, and over 100 photos of Maharishi and his celebrity disciples (the Beatles, Deepak Chopra, Mia Farrow, Beach Boys, and many more). * Why George criticized Paul severely in India? * What Paul said about seeing God when he took the psychedelic drug DMT? * What happened when Paul and his daughter Stella returned to see Maharishi in Holland? * What Paul said when Maharishi asked him and George to run for Parliament on the "Natural Law Party" ticket? * What are the hidden meanings behind these songs that Paul wrote: “Let it Be,” “Mother Nature’s Son,” “Cosmically Conscious,” “Blackbird,” “Get Back,” “Why Don’t We Do it in the Road,” “Back in the USSR,” “Fool on the Hill,” “The Long and Winding Road?” Susan shares: “Merely by being in his presence, we disciples entered an utterly timeless place and rapturous feeling, and, at the same time, realized the utter futility and insanity of the mundane world.” Simply reply to this email to book this guest! A sought-after media guest and highly acclaimed professional speaker, Susan Shumsky has done over 600 speaking engagements and over 950 media appearances since her first book was published, including Woman's World, GQ, Cosmopolitan, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, nationally syndicated and network TV, Alan Colmes on FOX news, Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, and William Shatner's Weird or What? She is also featured in the movie Three Magic Words.

When it comes to careers, the scales are clearly still tipped in men favors. But are women partly to blame for that imbalance? Tamara Lashchyk wrote the book "Lose the Gum: A Survival Guide for Women on Wall Street." She says women sabotage their potential in the workplace. The next guest is Dr. Susan Shumsky who explains what yoga really is. Shumsky has written 14 books, her latest is "Maharishi and Me: Seeking Enlightenment with the Beatles' Guru." She also offers advice on how to reach a sort of spiritual nirvana without putting on yoga pants. ABC7 LA Anchorman, Jory Rand, and Ducks n Pucks podcaster, Mike Walters join Phil Hulett in the studio for today's show. Plenty of stories to choose from: You don't know jack fruit. Jory does. He eats it all the time as a vegan substitute. A political candidate goes Facebook live in the women's bathroom when she hears a man's voice coming from within a stall. Good bye to this drink on United Airlines. Speaking of airlines, American Airlines has a list of which animals are NOT "comfort animals." Squirrels are storing up more than their nuts. And finally, behold the modesty poncho.
