Episode hosted by Mark Divine: Today, Commander Divine speaks with Tony Nader, MD, PhD, global expert in the science of consciousness and human development and head of the Transcendental Meditation organizations globally. In the episode, Tony shares the science of consciousness and the relationship between mind and body, consciousness and physiology, and the possibility to develop full human potential. Key Takeaways: Transcendental Meditation as an inner and outer practice. The reality is many Westerners think of meditation as an internal-only practice and therefore avoid it at all costs. Transcendental Meditation (TM), which Dr. Nader champions in the West, is instead both an internal and external practice, used to create more harmony in our real world lives. The survey says… meditate! Tony shares how TM has created research-backed results in both physical and mental realms. For instance, TM practitioners experience increased mental clarity, peace, and happiness, as well as less physiological stress, better healing and ability to concentrate - even (get this) better behavior! Ultimate reality and… rock consciousness? Tony details how TM allows practitioners to experience ultimate reality, which is the experience of all consciousness, everything, as one. Oh, and that includes rocks, which also hold consciousness, albeit of lower values than us humans. Less than 1% to heal the world. Studies have shown, including an experiment done in Washington, D.C., that when less than 1% of a population come together and practice Transcendental Meditation, there are cosmic shifts in the overall population behaviorally and mentally. Less car crashes, less violence, crime, and so on. TM is quite literally changing the world, by bringing us into harmony with the all-encompassing oneness of everything. Whether you're a seasoned practitioner or new to the world of Ayurveda, this series promises to inspire, educate, and empower you on your own path to holistic health and well-being.My guest today is Radhika Erving from San Diego, California. Radhika came to Ayurveda after her experience with the autoimmune condition, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, which she cured by following an Ayurvedic protocol. Her interest in Ayurveda was fueled by her godmother who encouraged her to delve more deeply. Initially, she worked as a panchakarma technician at the renowned Surya Spa in Los Angeles, its founder being Martha Soffer [I interviewed Martha in episode #32]. Although Radhika found the mentorship of Martha and the hands on experience she gained at Surya to be invaluable, she wanted to deepen her knowledge of the healing power of Ayurveda. During the pandemic, she enrolled in the Master's program in Maharishi Ayurveda & Integrative Medicine at Maharishi International University (MIU). While at MIU, she delved into every aspect of Ayurveda, but was struck by the profundity of the program's emphasis on the role of consciousness and particularly, the practice of Transcendental Meditation (TM) on health and well-being. Radhika continues to be connected with MIU as a teacher's assistant in the MS Maharishi Ayurveda program. She also consults with clients privately and offers a variety of services through her business: Ayurveda Ma. The CEO of the David Lynch Foundation, Bob Roth, shares his insights on the role of Transcendental Meditation (TM) in tackling chronic stress and improving health outcomes. Filmmaker David Lynch and Bob Roth co-founded the foundation in 2005. Roth highlights the devastating impact of toxic stress, which has evolved into a global crisis. Chronic stress, he explains, is distinct from everyday pressures and challenges; it overwhelms the nervous system, triggering a persistent "fight or flight" response that depletes physical and mental health. This ancient, evidence-based meditation technique is simple, natural, and effortless — accessible to anyone from schoolchildren to corporate executives. Roth notes that through regular practice, individuals experience profound relaxation that can reduce cortisol levels, lower blood pressure, and alleviate anxiety and depression. We explore a range of angles, from TM's impact on stress levels and health to reducing healthcare costs and helping corporates improve their bottom line. Roth highlights that stress-related conditions are the leading cause of death for firefighters, police officers, and healthcare professionals—populations who are now benefitting from TM programs delivered by the foundation. Roth underscores the importance of integrating TM into mainstream healthcare systems, which he argues can transform public health outcomes at scale. He notes that TM's accessibility — it requires no belief system, takes just 20 minutes twice a day, and delivers immediate benefits — has contributed to its widespread adoption. The foundation's global footprint now spans 35 countries and TM is endorsed by figures like Ray Dalio, Hugh Jackman, and Jerry Seinfeld, who actively support the foundation's mission. Key Discussion Points:Core Philosophy of Consciousness:Dr. Nader introduces the central thesis of his book Consciousness Is All There Is, proposing that consciousness is the fundamental reality that shapes everything in existence. He challenges the traditional materialistic worldview that prioritizes physical reality as the basis of life, instead arguing that consciousness is primary and material reality emerges from it.This paradigm shift encourages listeners to reconsider their understanding of reality and their place within it, highlighting the transformative potential of expanded consciousness. The Four States of Consciousness:The episode dives into the four major states of consciousness: sleeping, dreaming, waking, and transcendental consciousness.Dr. Nader explains how TM uniquely facilitates access to transcendental consciousness, a state of restful alertness where the mind is deeply quiet yet fully awake. This fourth state of consciousness is described as a gateway to profound inner peace, heightened creativity, and a deeper sense of fulfillment, distinguishing it from the other three states.Higher States of Consciousness:The discussion expands to the higher states of consciousness: cosmic consciousness, God consciousness, and unity consciousness.Dr. Nader explains that these states represent increasingly refined levels of awareness, where one begins to perceive the interconnectedness of all things and experiences a profound sense of unity with the universe. These advanced states are attainable through consistent practice of TM and contribute to a deeper spiritual awakening, where the individual self merges with the universal self.Practical Benefits of Transcendental Meditation:TM is presented as a simple yet powerful practice that, when done for 20 minutes twice a day, can have significant impacts on both mental and physical health.Dr. Nader outlines the practical benefits, including reduced stress, improved focus, enhanced creativity, and greater emotional resilience.TM is also linked to better sleep, lower blood pressure, and a more balanced nervous system, making it a highly effective tool for overall well-being.Meditate America Initiative:Dr. Nader introduces the Meditate America program, set to launch on September 12th, with participation from celebrities like Hugh Jackman and public figures like the U.S. Surgeon General. The initiative aims to bring the benefits of TM to a broader audience, particularly in America, to address societal challenges such as stress, crime, and public health. The program highlights the potential for TM to not only transform individual lives but also to create positive shifts in collective consciousness, leading to a more peaceful and harmonious society. The Role of Gratitude and Inner Awareness:Chris Schembra and Dr. Nader explore how gratitude plays a crucial role in expanding consciousness by focusing on the sources of our blessings, not just the material outcomes. They discuss the importance of appreciating the creator behind every creation, encouraging listeners to shift their perspective from the external to the internal. The combination of gratitude and meditation is presented as a powerful practice for deepening one's connection to the self and the world, leading to a more meaningful and fulfilling life. Notable Quotes:Dr. Tony Nader:"Consciousness is not just another aspect of life; it is the very foundation of reality itself.""When we dive deep into our consciousness, we discover that we are not just individual waves in the ocean, but the entire ocean itself.""True happiness and fulfillment come not from acquiring more, but from realizing and being more—expanding our awareness to its fullest potential.""The beauty of Transcendental Meditation is that it allows you to connect with the deepest part of yourself, that infinite reservoir of creativity and peace.""In the stillness of transcendence, we find the clarity to see the world as it truly is—not as we think it should be."Chris Schembra:"Meditation is a way to retire within yourself, to find peace in a world that often feels overwhelming.""We often look outside for fulfillment, but the truth is, everything we need is already within us—if we take the time to access it.""By giving ourselves the gift of meditation, we're not just investing in our own well-being, but in the well-being of everyone we interact with.""Dr. Nader's work teaches us that the most profound changes in our lives come from within, from the simple act of being present with our true selves.""Gratitude isn't just about acknowledging what we have; it's about appreciating the source of all that we are and can be." ABOUT OUR GUEST:Dr. Nader is a medical doctor trained at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Ph.D. in neuroscience). He was a Clinical and Research Fellow in Neurology at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School; and the Assistant Director of the MIT Clinical Research Center. He has conducted research in neurochemistry and neuroendocrinology; the relationship between diet, age, behavior, mood, seasonal influences, and hormonal activity; and the role of neurotransmitter precursors in medicine. As founder and editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Mathematics and Consciousness, Dr. Nader also offered a mathematical model for how the multiplicity of matter arises from a fundamental “singularity” of Transcendental Consciousness. For decades, Dr. Nader worked closely with TM Founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the science of consciousness, which integrates modern research with the broad-based areas of knowledge stemming from the ancient Vedic tradition, including landmark studies in peer-reviewed journals establishing Transcendental Consciousness as a fourth major state of consciousness and expanding the scientific understanding of enlightenment. Today Dr. Nader directs the international organizations that teach the Transcendental Meditation program in over 100 countries and is the definitive authority on the TM technique. Break 1: PEGGY SLAPPY STORY 1: Ukraine native earns prestigious EAGLE award at Gwinnett Technical College Anastasiia Pliashko, a resident of Cumming, has been selected to represent Gwinnett Technical College at the EAGLE Leadership Institute in March 2024. EAGLE, which stands for Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education, honors students demonstrating superior achievement in adult education. Pliashko, originally from Ukraine, arrived in the U.S. in August 2022. She enrolled in Gwinnett Tech's HSE program to earn her GED and plans to pursue an associate degree in business management. Pliashko expressed gratitude for the recognition, stating that being named the EAGLE winner has boosted her confidence and provided motivation to achieve her goals. STORY 2: Ponies treat hospital patients by relieving stress, boosting mental health Lindsey Head, 56, initiated Pixie and Pickles Adventures, a program that utilizes ponies for therapy in hospitals. The seven well-trained ponies, visiting Lister Hospital in Stevenage, Herts., provide stress relief and mental health benefits to patients. Lindsey, a ward sister, started the venture after witnessing the positive impact on her late father in a care home. The therapy ponies, wearing diapers and maintained with high hygiene standards, engage with patients, bringing temporary relief and joy. The program has grown, securing regular visits to the hospital and sparking discussions with Great Ormond Street. The ponies' visits complement the support provided by 14 therapy dogs at Lister Hospital, contributing to patient well-being and staff morale. STORY 3: Meditating can slash stress and anxiety for nurses: study Research indicates that Transcendental Meditation (TM) significantly reduced stress, anxiety, and burnout among frontline nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study involved 104 nurses in three Florida hospitals, with the TM group showing a 62% decrease in anxiety, 57% reduction in PTSD, and 24% decrease in burnout over three months, compared to minimal changes in the control group. TM, a simple technique practiced twice daily for 20 minutes, is not a religion or philosophy and aims to calm the mind. The study highlights TM's potential to enhance nurses' well-being and retain them in practice during challenging healthcare scenarios. The study reveals that human fingers and toes do not grow outward but form from within a foundational bud, with "orchestrated cell death" revealing well-defined shapes after around seven weeks of development. The research, part of the Human Cell Atlas initiative, could have implications for treating muscle-related disorders or injuries and impact the diagnosis and treatment of congenital limb syndromes. The atlas provides a resource for understanding the complexity of limb development. STORY 5: Latino voters concerned about economy, feel neither party pays them close attention, poll says A UnidosUS survey of Latino voters in Georgia reveals that, with less than a year until the 2024 election, these voters are concerned about economic issues. While they align more with the Democratic Party on average, majorities believe both parties either don't care much about or are hostile toward their community. The top three issues for Latino voters are inflation (53%), jobs and the economy (47%), and healthcare (41%). The survey indicates that both parties need to engage more with Hispanic voters and address their concerns, with a focus on economic issues. Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a powerful, time-tested technique that has been transforming lives for over six decades. Developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, TM has gained widespread recognition for its ability to reduce stress, improve mental clarity, and enhance overall well-being. In this episode we dive deep into Transcendental Meditation, exploring its benefits and how it can lead to a more balanced and fulfilling life, a profound practice regularly discussed by one of my teachers, Ray Dalio. Transcendental Meditation is a simple, effortless technique that can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age, culture, or belief system. It involves silently repeating a personalized mantra for 15-20 minutes, twice a day, while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed. The mantra serves as a vehicle for the mind to transcend its active thinking state and experience a state of deep inner peace and restful alertness. TM has been scientifically proven to reduce stress and anxiety by activating the body's natural relaxation response. This lowers cortisol levels and increases the production of serotonin and endorphins, leading to a calmer, more balanced state of mind. Regular practice of TM has been shown to improve focus, memory, and cognitive function. By accessing a state of restful alertness, the mind becomes more efficient and better equipped to process information and solve problems, allowing you to focus on solutions. Transcendental Meditation can lead to increased self-awareness and help you find the internal life force to lead you towards achieving your most important goals in life, the ones that you may have even doubted at some point in your life. In this podcast we explore and practice a meditation inspired by Transcendental Meditation (TM) popularized by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. This is a very easy yet powerful meditation and a great starting meditation for those new to meditation. TM utilizes mantras or sounds that have no meaning, therefore, the mind can't get involved with them. Sit down, relax, take a nice breath with your eyes closed and repeat your mantra silently. Now every time a thought comes up, rather than become involved with it you simply repeat your mantra instead and let both your mantra and your thought go. Since you are not being captured by your thoughts you are free to relax deeper and deeper into your Being. Other variations on TM are the "Relaxation Response" and the Christian version called "Centering Prayer".
In this bonus episode of Brand New Thought, we speak with David Shapiro, Director of the Alliance for PTSD Recovery, a charitable, educational and research organization that studies and implements evidence-based treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), including the Transcendental Meditation (TM) program. We discussed what the research on TM reveals about the nature of consciousness, what TM is and how it contributes to PTSD treatment, increased productivity for individuals and organizations. David shared the history of TM in Armenia, how it was brought to help overcome the suffering that unfolded after the earthquake of 1988. After the Nagorno-Karabakh war of 2020, TM is, once again, being used in Armenia to overcome the mental health crisis. We also discussed the so-called Maharishi effect. The research demonstrates that when 1% of the population practices TM or if the more advanced techniques of group meditation are used, it leads to a decrease on in overall level of violent incidents thereby affecting the nation more massively, including people who do not meditate. You can find out more on the research on TM at https://aptsdr.org and https://www.tm.org. ----------------------------------- About Brand New Thought & Razmik Brand New Thought is a platform dedicated to paradigm shifts in personal development. ‘So really, the key difference with transcendental meditation is we're not trying to control the mind, or concentrate, or visualise or be mindful of our thoughts. And all these things activate the mind to some extent. And that's why if you've got a really busy mind or you're very anxious, it's really hard to do those techniques. Now an analogy that's often used when we talk about Transcendental Meditation is to think of the mind as being a bit like the ocean. We can have a lot of turbulence on the surface of the ocean, but if you dive down underneath there is complete stillness and silence. And that's the same with the mind.' ~ Wendy Rosenfeldt Wendy Rosenfeldt is a teacher of Transcendental Meditation (TM) and a Maharishi Ayurveda Practitioner. She has been teaching TM for over 20 years and is passionate about helping people to live their full potential by accessing the deepest levels of the mind and releasing the blocks caused by stress, tension, and past experiences. In this week's podcast, we dive deep into the understanding of the mind using the power of what it means to transcend and the importance of ayurvedic medicine. Wendy offers personalised health consultations that take into account your unique constitutional type and addresses imbalances through diet, daily routine, herbs and lifestyle changes. Are gender roles necessary to keep society intact? Coach Imari Tuakli and Christina unpack the question with Dr. John Gray for WeDeepen's Yes, And... Dr. John Gray, an American self-help author and pop psychologist built a business empire out of his most famous book, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. As a teenager, John became involved in the Transcendental Meditation (TM) movement and eventually became the personal assistant of TM founder Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Gray took a vow of celibacy and traveled with the guru for nine years, learning firsthand the necessary attributes of a charismatic leader. In 1992 Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus was released and became an NYTimes best seller. The book is based on Gray's premise that men and women have different emotional requirements and that a misunderstanding of the differences leads to the breakdown of relationships. Nearly 71 years of age, Dr. John Gray shares profound wisdom on the topics of gender differences, psychology, male ejaculation, how to please a woman, why he's monogamous, communication styles, and more. Mark speaks with Tony Nader, MD, PhD, Dr. Nader, a globally recognized expert in the science of consciousness and human development who is the head of the Transcendental Meditation organizations globally. Tony is an MIT and Harvard trained doctor and neuroscientist and the author of The One Unbounded Ocean of Consciousness, through which he brings the science of consciousness to new audiences and expands the understanding of the relationship between mind and body, consciousness and physiology, and the possibility to development full human potential. Today, Commander Divine speaks with Tony Nader, MD, PhD, global expert in the science of consciousness and human development and head of the Transcendental Meditation organizations globally.

Meet Emily Fitz Randolph, founder of Itihas Ayurveda in Los Angeles. Emily describes her journey away and back to Ayurveda. Having grown up in the heart of Ayurveda and meditation in the U.S. (Fairfield, IA), Emily moved to NYC -- ready to conquer the business world and that she did for 15 years. She managed campus recruiting for the top financial service firms in NYC where she excelled in the fast-paced corporate whirlwind that is Manhattan. Her aha moments were incremental, but days of eating lunch at her desk and powering down her laptop at 8 pm began to wear thin. Her early exposure to meditation and Ayurveda kicked in. She started meditating again and began to wake up to the reality that outer appearances do not necessarily make an individual's inner world blissful. Doing a complete 180, she signed up to become a teacher of Transcendental Meditation (TM) and currently runs two TM Centers in Los Angeles (one in Santa Monica). She also recently completed her Master's in Ayurveda at Maharishi International University and intends to marry the two: Ayurveda and Transcendental Meditation. Her passion is teaching - first, meditation and now, Ayurveda - she is sharing these ancient technologies with as many individuals as possible. The name of her new business - Itihas Ayurveda - reflects her approach to encouraging others - the word "itihas" means blossoming of totality. To Emily, it's a reminder that we all have the capacity to reach out full potential, it is just waiting to burst forth. Find Emily:itihasayurveda.comInstagram: @itihasayurveda and @tmwithemily
Ryan talks with John Bright a long-time practitioner and expert in the world of meditation and consciousness. They discuss: What is consciousness? What does it mean to transcend? John noticed consistency among people he'd met who were highly creative. They all practiced meditation in some form in order to access higher consciousness. John shares about his own personal path to finding Transcendental Meditation (TM) and how that's impacted him. Mediation is now being seen as a practical tool for personal transformation and improving one's overall quality of life in many ways. What is left when we shed all of our roles, labels, judgments, etc. is our true essence. Our effort, intention, and analytical powers can get in the way of our experience. About John: Teacher of Transcendental Meditation since 1970, lecturing and consulting on consciousness in Silicon Valley area 1980s to present and currently serving on a number of boards within the global TM org; residing in Santa Cruz, CA; BA magna cum laude from Princeton University '66 in Arabic studies and International relations; MA from New York University in the same field. My guest today is Kate Ostheimer who shares how Ayurveda found her. Originally from Peru, Kate spent many years working in the hospitality industry, primarily for mega-luxury hotel chains. “While they aimed to bring a sense of well-being to their clientele, the essence of wellness was missing.”Currently, Kate is a student and teacher in the Master's Ayurveda & Integrative Medicine program at Maharishi International University (MIU). What she has discovered is that studying Ayurveda is not just about gaining knowledge, but learning how to apply it in your own life. “If you want to have good digestion, you have to eat well every day. If you want to reduce your stress level, you have to practice stress-reduction techniques like Transcendental Meditation (TM) every day. Ayurveda allows you to integrate the knowledge on your own terms. Unlike many wellness protocols, it is not an all or nothing proposition. Ayurveda is a lifestyle that supports both your physiology and psychology.” Through Ayurveda, Kate has shifted her lifestyle from one of high stress, burnout – feeling so tired at the end of each workday that the only thing she could do in the evening was get under the covers of her bed as soon as she arrived home. After two years of practicing Ayurveda, she reports having boundless energy. As a student and teacher of Ayurveda, Kate has discovered the body's power of self-healing. She quickly became aware that everything we consume (not just food) has to be digested by the body-mind – some will lead to sattva (feeling peaceful and balanced) and some to rajas (overstimulated) or tamas (dull, lethargic). A regular practice of meditation has enabled her to enjoy the moment, whatever it may bring, instead of striving to meet goals or live up to someone else's expectations. This has brought great freedom into her days. Most of all, Kate views Ayurveda as “the science of getting to know yourself.” “As your self-awareness grows, you no longer struggle to make healthy choices. Healthy choices become easy.” And the question: “Ayurveda is an ancient system of self-healing. In what way is it relevant to your modern life?” “In every way. That's the magic of Ayurveda. It improves every aspect of your life.” And the question: “Your favorite Ayurvedic product?” I like the Vata and Pitta teas sold by Maharishi Products International (mapi.com). The Pitta tea cools me down and the Vata tea relaxes and grounds me. I also like the herbalized massage oils sold by MAPI – I use them for my daily self-massage -abhyanga – which is the ultimate act of self-care.”
Join me as I interview Nicole Windenberger. A self-described multi-potentialite (someone with many interests and pursuits), Nicole supports individuals and groups – helping them harness their full potential through the mediums of food, architecture, education and culture and on a more subtle level - meditation, yoga, integrated brain functioning and higher consciousness. Her work: https://econico.org. Nicole is also developing a new website recipesforbliss.com intended to give people an Ayurvedic roadmap to their food choices and lifestyles. Nicole grew up in Fairfield, Iowa (nicknamed “Sili-Corn Valley”), a unique small town with an international community due to the presence of Maharishi International University and its reputation as the epicenter of Transcendental Meditation (“TM”) in the U.S. Living in tune with the laws of nature (a key component to adopting an Ayurvedic lifestyle), Nicole was comfortable from a young age observing the impact of the outer world on her inner world – her physiology and consciousness. In other words, the world was her laboratory. To Nicole, “idea synthesis” means designing your life to meet your goals. “Many people live by default in ways that hinder them.” Lifestyle design synthesizes architecture, lifestyle science, environment, and manifestation or the power of intention in to your daily routine. “Your daily routine is essentially a structure and with some tools, you can organize this structure to support your goals. You want to tune in to the laws of nature and flow with them instead of against them.”Designing a business class for airlines with a focus on Ayurvedic principles is on Nicole's radar. “There are so many passengers who would benefit from a few tweaks. For instance, coffee and alcohol imbalance the vata dosha (the one most closely allied with the air and space elements), yet they are the most commonly served beverages on airplanes. Instead, airlines could serve a tea that would calm vata. There is a market for organic, high vibe, sustainable elements. If one airline adopts this approach, others will soon follow suit. I would like to see Ayurveda come to the helm in the hospitality sector, in general. There is a luxury hotel brand called Six Senses. They combine a luxury vibe with sustainability. In the past, people associated sustainability with a new age, hippy vibe. That perception is changing however and there is a demand for this approach – especially from high-powered execs. Most execs have discovered that if they adopt a sustainable lifestyle, they can maintain the high level of energy that their career demands.” “Creativity is what I am all about – the ‘life by design' work I do is all about helping clients structure their environment for maximum creativity. Creativity is always present at the very subtle level of the mind, but we have to bring it up to the surface level in order for it to manifest. The process of bringing the creative thoughts to the surface is very delicate. Your environment has to support this process. Regular practice of TM restores the liveliness, the vibrancy of creativity. The mind is a treasure house of impressions and TM enables us to make connections at a very refined level.”“Your video presentation – ‘Quality of Food = Quality of Life' – it's currently on YouTube – you said you originally gave it in French to a French audience.” “Yes, my first presentation about food was in French – because the French are very much into food.” “But are they into wellness or Ayurveda?” “This group was, yes.” “The French appreciate food and recognize that it is integral to their quality of life. When I re-tooled the talk for an English-speaking audience, I realized I wanted to go deeper into the qualities of food. I approached the
In this episode, I talk with Cindy Beers, a veteran of the US Armed Forces, educator, and expert on yoga for mental health. You'll be inspired by her passion for self-applied healing modalities like yoga and meditation, rooted in her own journey of trauma recovery. **Towards the beginning of the interview Cindy briefly shares about two trauma incidents she experienced during her 18 years in the military. We did not talk about these experiences in great detail here, but it's worth giving a heads up for any listeners that might be sensitive to this kind of story. You might want to skip ahead to about the 12-minute mark of the podcast, where you'll be well past that part of Cindy's story and able to hear more about her incredible work and new yoga for mental health program.** Cindy talks about how she turned to yoga for help with fibromyalgia and physical pain, and found it also gave her a space to let go of painful thoughts and emotions. She describes what it was like to be a practitioner with a trauma history, attending group classes long before "trauma-informed" training was part of our yoga culture. You'll hear how she handles it when a student exhibits strong emotions during class, and what she suggests every yoga teacher should do to support mental health, regardless of the type or style of class they teach. She explains how discovering certain meditation techniques, particularly Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Transcendental Meditation (TM) helped her with anxiety and an over-active mind (or what she called "the hamsters in the brain"). Cindy shares a whole host of modalities that are part of her wellness toolbox, including Havening, Self-EMDR, affirmations, and Yoga Nidra, and how they've supported her alongside Western medicine. I think you'll come away with a great deal of appreciation for Cindy's pioneering work advocating for mental health and wellness, utilizing the tools of yoga and meditation.
