Rusty Field, President & CEO of Evenstad Estates (home of Domaine Serene), joins RiskCellar hosts Brandon Schuh and Nick Hartmann for a side-by-side tasting of four wines, two from Burgundy and two from Oregon's Willamette Valley. Rusty shares the career journey that took him from United Health Group and Ameriprise Financial to Upsher-Smith Laboratories, and ultimately to leading one of America's most awarded wineries. The episode covers the science of winemaking. Why Pinot Noir thrives at the 45th parallel in both Oregon and Burgundy, how French oak barrels protect wine through tight grain structure, and why the 2022 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay won Best Wine by Quality at the 2025 Sommeliers Choice Awards. Rusty breaks down the difference between volcanic Jory soil in the Dundee Hills and Burgundy's limestone-rich gravel terroir. The back half pivots to the 2020 Oregon wildfire vintage, frost candles in Burgundy, mildew wiping out 70% of the 2024 Côte de Nuit crop, and how Evenstad uses library wine inventory as a hedge. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Noel Stark, author of the book Love, Camera, Action. Noël Stark has worked in almost every film and TV industry position, appearing in Land of the Dead and DeGrassi, writing for Paw Patrol, producing over 200 hours of scripted and unscripted television, and having her film Stronger at both the Sundance and Toronto International Film Festivals. Although Canadian, she lives in Hollywood with her young son, who desperately misses winter. She likes chocolate milk in her coffee and gets most of her real-world intel from her three step-children. In my book review, I stated Love, Camera, Action by Noel Stark is a contemporary romance - with a good deal of humor! Of course, I need to say upfront, that this book is steamy, so for my readers who prefer closed door sex scenes, this book is more than that and skipping the scenes isn't really possible. That said, despite not usually reading steamy myself, I became quickly hooked by the characters and wanted to see it through. The premise is that Cali, an up-and-coming TV director, is great at directing sex scenes, so she is hired for a show for a couple of steamy episodes. She meets up quickly with Jory, a hot but smug photography director. And sparks fly - on all levels. But what caught my attention was that, although a spicy romance, the characters had great depth. Cali is dealing with long-held views about life and love because of an absent father and unstable mother. And Jory? He lost his mother to cancer at a young age and is worried that he may have inherited the gene. For their own reasons, both are drawn to love while also pushing against it. Plus, Noel did a great job describing what happens on a TV set, which I found fascinating. Noel is an amazing author because despite not being a romance reader and despite not liking books with chili pepper ratings, I was all in by the end of the first chapter. This book definitely gets five stars. We're here with our unofficial third host and certified rapscallion Jory Griffis to talk about Resident Evil: Requiem and watch the terrible film E.T. Go to our Patreon to enjoy our commentary track either with or without the movie; it goes crazy in the second half once we completely turn on the movie and start fantasizing about all the ways that little alien menace could bite it for good. How about E.T. phone Life Alert, huh? How about E.T. staying 70s calcium-rich dog** white in the gutter? How about we scrub this mawkish scourge from the collective cultural consciousness? How about that? Would you like that? Is there a reason to get out of bed in the morning knowing that in the state of Florida, there's a scary E.T. animatronic that knows your name? Do you know what he's going to do with that information? What sick invocations he'll conjure in the dark halls of that accursed Universal Studios TM dark ride? Is there any way out of this utter madness?Yes, actually, there is. And it's supporting our Patreon at patreon.com/leightonnight, where you can get an incredible deal on access to our entire 5 year backlog of video and ad-free episodes for as low as TWO DOLLARS A MONTH. I don't want to get your hopes up, but it is the only thing that WILL protect you from E.T.'s demented wrath. And that's a Leighton Night promise (i.e. worth nothing and nonrefundable in Alaska and Hawaii). Follow us on Twitter at @leightonnight and on Instagram/TikTok at @leighton_night. In June 2023, Jory Humphreys and Sam Hope launched H People with limited capital but an insane energy to work hard.Within 25 months, they'd built a $25 million business. $8.2 million in year one, $15.5 million revenue and $1 million in EBITDA in their second full year. They're now Australia's number two fastest-growing company. But what makes their story different isn't the revenue. It's the model they built to get there. Most founders choose between growth and sanity. Jory and Sam chose leverage. From day one, they integrated an offshore team from the Philippines. Not as a cost-cutting exercise. As a strategic partner. One offshore resource supporting one onshore consultant. This involved structured daily huddles, clear shared targets and the growth of a real partnership culture. The offshore team handled high-volume screening, candidate qualification, compliance and administration. The onshore consultants handled what only they could do: client relationships, business development, negotiation, and revenue generation. This operating model has been the foundation of their success. As Jory explains: "If it was just me and Sam battling it out without offshore support, we would have only made half the amount of placements. They enabled us to deliver a better service."Today, H People is 21 people strong, expanding nationally across Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney, and they're running one of the most profitable recruitment operations in Australia. They've also launched Wingman Recruitment, helping other agencies replicate the offshore model with the same rigour.Inside this unique story, we cover:- How two bootstrapped founders went from zero to $25M in 25 months- Why the offshore model isn't about cost-cutting - it's about leverage- The exact structure: one consultant, one resource, shared targets- How they grew 16 net new contractors every single month- The culture piece: why their offshore team outperforms typical VAs- How they built $1M EBITDA in year two (without venture capital)- Why they split focus between H People and Wingman Recruitment?- The real numbers: revenue, GP, EBITDA, and what's actually possible- How they managed family life while scaling a $25M business in 25 months- The future of recruitment: onshore consultants + offshore leverage + AI automationThis is a story of two recruiters who understood their market, built the right operating model, and scaled with intention. It's super inspiring and I can't wait for you to listen!__________________________________________Episode Sponsor: Remote RecruitmentHiring shouldn't be slow, stressful, or expensive. This week, we have a special guest! Brigid Kemmerer, author of Warrior, Princess, Assassin, joined us for our discussion of her book! We are so grateful for her time! To dive straight into our discussion with Brigid and skip the character and plot summary, jump ahead to 11:20 in this episode. Princess Jory of Astranza faces the difficult reality of becoming engaged to a king, Maddox Kyronan of Incendar, or risk placing the safety and future of her kingdom at risk. Ky's fire magic is rumored to be terribly destructive, which is extremely effective against the enemies, the Draegonis. However, the rumors also suggest that Ky has used such power against his own people. Jory seeks comfort from her only friend, Asher, an assassin for hire and her childhood love. Dark dealings by men in power unexpectedly drive Asher, Ky, and Jory together, and while they ally together out of necessity initially, their attraction to each other draws them even closer. Join us this week!

You're over-giving because you're terrified no one will see your value. You know you're doing it. You're even aware it's exhausting you. But awareness without understanding why you do it? That just fuels the shame cycle. Emma came to this coaching session with a question about imposter syndrome. Twenty-five years of teaching, consistently getting great results with her clients, and still doubting whether she's doing enough or good enough. Still uncomfortable asking for money. Still over-giving in every session because maybe, just maybe, if she gives enough, they'll finally see her value. But here's what I don't coach to: I don't coach to imposter syndrome. I coach to the operating system underneath producing that symptom. Within minutes, we uncovered what was really running the show. Emma watched her mom overwork her entire childhood. Watched her put herself last, neglect her health, tie her worth to productivity, and never value herself. Emma loved her mom. So she learned this is what you do. You work until you're exhausted. You give until there's nothing left. You prove your value through doing. And now, decades later, Emma's middle-aged, looking in the mirror, and seeing her mom staring back at her. In this coaching episode, you'll hear me guide Emma through: Why she's been working so hard to get her clients' acceptance and what part of her is driving that hustle for approval The exact moment she realized she's been modeling her mom's pattern of tying worth to productivity without even knowing she picked it up How loving someone who couldn't value themselves creates an unconscious loyalty to suffering—and why it feels like betrayal to treat yourself better than they treated themselves The practice of emotional neutrality when asking for money so she can witness the discomfort without letting it run her choices Why "I want more money" and "I want freedom" are abstract goals that keep high-achievers trapped in chasing their tail instead of actually creating what they want How to stop recreating your parent's life and become the conscious creator of your own by getting crystal clear on your values and boundaries The tool for parenting the part of you that innocently picked up misinformed stories about your value—so you can take different action even while feeling uncomfortable This episode is for you if: You've built success but still feel like you have to over-give to prove your value You're aware of your patterns but can't seem to change them, which just makes you feel more shame You watched a parent sacrifice themselves through overwork and now you're doing the same thing You're uncomfortable asking for money even though you deliver exceptional results You chase "more money" or "freedom" but never feel like you're actually getting there You want to understand what it's like to work with a Master Coach who sees the operating system underneath your surface symptoms This is what it sounds like to work with a coach who doesn't address what you think the problem is. I go after the beliefs and identity driving the behavior. If you've been telling yourself it's just imposter syndrome when it's actually about worthiness, tune in. Ready to explore your own patterns? What pattern are you repeating that you watched growing up? What are you getting from over-giving, from tying your worth to productivity, from staying exhausted, that you won't admit? Emma came in thinking we'd coach on imposter syndrome. But the real work was uncovering the operating system underneath that was running her life. And I'm willing to bet there's an operating system running yours too. If you're done perpetuating the suffering, if you're ready to stop recreating what you watched and start becoming the conscious creator of your own life, book a free Congruency Audit with my team at lisacarpenter.ca/audit. We'll identify what's working, what's out of sync, and the single biggest opportunity to bring your life, work, and self back into congruence. What pattern are you ready to stop repeating? There are six stages of manhood according to John Eldredge's "Fathered by God" - from boyhood through sage. Jory challenges modern views of masculinity, showing how Jesus was a warrior and why men need to be capable of violence under control.
Send us a textIn this episode, I chat with Noël Stark about her debut romantic comedy novel, LOVE, CAMERA, ACTION.Noël Stark has worked in almost every position in the Film and Television industry, both in front of and behind the camera. Although she's Canadian, she lives in L.A. with her young son, desperately missing winter. She likes chocolate milk in her coffee and gets most of her real-world intel from her three stepkids. Here's the synopsis of Love, Camera, Action:A scrappy TV director lands her big break only to go head-to-head with the surly yet sexy director of photography, in this page-turning romance perfect for fans of Ava Wilder and Tessa Bailey. Up-and-coming TV director Cali Daniels knows sex. Well, okay, she knows how to shoot sex scenes, and she's been hired to direct a highly anticipated steamy episode of the popular series The Demon. This job is her chance at a big-time career in the film and television industry—all she has to do is deliver an unparalleled show using her hard-knock know-how and ample creativity. If only the director of photography—effortlessly sexy Jory Blair—would stop shutting her ideas down at every turn. Jory has spent years cultivating his career as an A-list director of photography, but a recent health scare has him rethinking his life and craving the director spot. Now this creative newbie, who he can't get out of his mind, wants to change the look of his show. Even worse, the friction between them is sparking into blistering chemistry. As collaborating takes on a whole new meaning, and the show's producer not-so-subtly suggests that Jory sabotage Cali in order to achieve his own goals, they'll have to decide if chasing their dream jobs is worth losing the dream of a future together.
