Grain and hogs markets end mixed Wednesday with cattle higher. Mike Minor, Professional Ag Marketing, says the markets shook off tariff talk and saw positioning end of month and before first notice day Friday. Soybeans saw slight gains on a lower dollar and with talk of China business on top of the flash export sale announced. Wheat saw pressure on technical selling and chances for rain in parts of Russia. Corn was caught in the tug of war between the two. Cattle futures gained with higher cash and feeders scored more new highs for the move. Hogs made new contract highs and then consolidated.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Grains found a bounce on Friday with soybeans and soybean oil leading the way to the upside. Meantime, feeder cattle saw a nice surge with hogs under pressure to end the week. Grain and livestock ended mixed Wednesday. Mike Minor with Professional Ag Marketing says soybeans saw a nice short covering bounce on the heels of a rally in soybean oil and more flash export sales to China and unknown. However, corn could not follow soybeans or the higher wheat market, despite more export business due to harvest pressure and technical selling after failing to take out chart resistance. Cattle futures saw follow through technical selling after bearish reversals on Tuesday and with lower boxed beef values. Minor says the key will be what the cash does as the end of the week. Lean hog futures hit more contract highs on fund buying but Minor says strong demand as seen in the higher cutout value has also been supportive. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Grains end lower Thursday with livestock to the plus side. Mike Minor, Professional Ag Marketing, says corn and soybean markets saw some early harvest pressure plus some rain chances in Brazil in early October also played a role. Wheat fell with better rain chances in the Central and Southern Plains. However, all the grain markets have technically run into chart resistance. Cattle and hogs and the stock market all rallied together in a delayed reaction to the Fed cutting interest rates for the first time in four years. Minor says that is positive for demand for meat and all commodities. He says the change in monetary policy may also bring some managed money back into the grains. The Cincinnati Reds problems from a few months ago showed up against the Milwaukee Brewers this past weekend. Tyler Stephenson would have been nice to have available. The Reds showed why, in a couple of areas, that the Brewers are just better and miles ahead of where the Reds are. The pitching really doomed the Reds in this seres as Hunter Greene and Graham Ashcraft both looked like rookies and Mike Minor blew up after three nice innings. The Cincinnati Reds are not losing because of David Bell. As Pete Rose said "One things makes a good manager: good players." The Reds front office haded David Bell a rough roster to win games with and Jeff and Steve want you to know that the expectations should be different then what Reds ownership is trying to sell you. Even with that roster, though, sometimes Bell pulls the handle on the slot machine and comes up with a winner, just like last night. Mike Minor pitched well and earned at least another look as a starter while Brandon Drury continued to build a case for an All Star selection. Also, Jonathan India is BACK which means change is coming to the Reds roster including Alejo Lopez sent down and a diminished role for Matt Reynolds.*SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonredsAlso follow @jefffcarr and @soffenbaker on Twitter Call or text (513) 549-0159Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Mike Minor pitched poorly and Joey Votto kept getting robbed by great defense as the Cincinnati Reds lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jeff and Steve wonder if Minor may be better out of the bullpen for the Reds. The future of the Reds is very bright with players like Elly De La Cruz and Rece Hinds on the horizon. We look at who will be making the Reds a playoff contender in 2024, whether De La Cruz or Jose Barrero will be the everyday shortstop, and why Michael Siani over Jay Allen in centerfield. Also, has one of Albert Almora Jr., Brandon Drury, or Matt Reynolds played themselves onto the roster for another year? Why we Reds fans are just so excited about average players.*SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonredsAlso follow @jefffcarr and @soffenbaker on Twitter Call or text (513) 549-0159Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Tyler Mahle got hit all around Great American Ballpark yesterday and the Cincinnati Reds lost big to the Chicago Cubs. Jeff and Steve dive into the early season struggles of Mahle and why it is eerily similar to the start of the season Luis Castillo turned in for the Reds last year. Mahle's bad start is only a small pat of the larger struggles of the starting pitching staff for the Reds that is worst in the Majors in many categories. Reds starting pitching has been the biggest reason why the Reds have such a bad record. Also, David Bell needs to do a better job of putting guys in spots to succeed, like Tyler Naquin. He mashes right-handed pitching but gets shut down by lefties. The Reds skipper has not done a good job of putting the roster that was poorly constructed in good positions to win ballgames. Hopefully guys like Castillo and Mike Minor coming back healthy can turn things around.*SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonredsAlso follow @jefffcarr and @soffenbaker on Twitter Call or text (513) 549-0159Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. David Bell's contract with the Cincinnati Reds is up after 2023 which brings up the question, will he be the Reds skipper when the Reds are good again? Jeff and Steve have pointed toward 2024 as the year the Reds will be good again, but David Bell isn't currently under contract during that season. Barry Larkin could be in the manager's seat and David Bell may be in the front office for the Reds in 2024. Also, Mike Minor made a rehab start Tuesday night which means we are close to having the Reds starting rotation back to full strength. What that means for Vladimir Gutierrez's near future and what effect that might have on the trade rumors about Luis Castillo and Tyler Mahle.*SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonredsAlso follow @jefffcarr and @soffenbaker on Twitter Call or text (513) 549-0159Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. The Cincinnati Reds beat the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday to make it back-to-back wins, and three out of four. Jeff believes the Reds show signs of a team that will win at least 74 games. The Reds lineup is scoring in bunches and showing that they are starting to come around. Luis Castillo is back and healthy which begins to align the starting rotation in a way Reds fans expected it to look. With the return of Nick Lodolo and Mike Minor on the horizon, the Reds could finally employ a six-man rotation. Vladimir Gutierrez could be the Cincinnati Reds version of Brent Suter. And Hunter Greene has a blueprint for success tonight that he needs to follow.*SUBSCRIBE* on YouTube and *FOLLOW* the podcast on your favorite app and on Twitter and Instagram @lockedonredsAlso follow @jefffcarr and @soffenbaker on Twitter Call or text (513) 549-0159Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built Bar Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Zack Greinke spent his first seven major league seasons with the Royals, the team that drafted and developed him, and now he'll be in Kansas City for season No. 19.
