Her father captured the spirit of the bayou through photography, painting, and even some carving. At a very young age, an artistic seed was planted, and it was not until her retirement years that she really found her artistic calling. In this episode, we talk to Lilly Collins Riera, a Golden Meadow native, who has found a way to revive old memories by bringing her painting talents and passion for antiques together, to tell a story for her customers. You can find Lilly and her Mumsie's Cottage brand on Facebook and Instagram. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1234366507103833 The DTB Podcast is presented by Bless Your Heart Nonprofit Corporation. CW: Discussion of hearing loss, trauma, custody battles, shame, racism, gangs, cruising, serial killers, dismemberment, grief, gaslighting, abuse, toxic relationships. After an all-timer bonkers episode, this week's Riverdale reigned things all the way back in by forcing all of our characters inside as a thick, menacing fog rolled in. And while that leads to a filler-adjacent episode, there's nonetheless a lot of character development that's surprisingly smart and thoughtful here. Veggie calls it quits (for now) because they're dealing with a toxic past that needs to be addressed. Betty finally opens up about her darkest moment with TBK, and gets even closer to Archie. Cheryl finds a little bit of catharsis with an angelic Mumsie, and Kevin gets a sweet visit from Marmaduke himself to help him face down his demons. But the one truly wild moment we get is discovering that Jughead is to Iron Man as Tabitha is to Doctor Strange, and there's a little bit of predestination for one Jughead Jones. Bundle up and get cozy for the night as we stay in for “Chapter 107: In the Fog” this week on The Doghouse. In celebration of Mother's Day, we introduce the RPP moms
It's a new month on Cheer and Loathing — and that means a new theme! But first, we couldn't neglect the opportunity to celebrate moms with a little maternal mayhem. First, Rebecca de Mornay takes another turn rocking the cradle of insanity in Darren Lynn Bousman's Mother's Day (2010). She proves that mother may always be right, but she's not always right in the head. Then we take a trip down the mother of all rabbit holes with the heavily allegorical mother! (2017) from Darren Aronofsky. What's it all mean? Join us as we try to make sense of it all. But like childbirth itself, this one's gonna get messy!
In this episode we are joined by fellow mama and self love QUEEN, Loren Burton. Loren is a Self Love & Body Confidence Coach, a mummy of three boys, wife, professional plus size model and founder of The Self Care School. Loren has featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine Australia and was voted winner of 2018 Cosmo Curve, she is currently an ambassador for Eunioa Soul Rituals and has worked alongside brands such as Myer, Baseline by Ashy Bines, Little Party Dress, the Mumsie and many more! Her daily mission is to amplify love in every way from creating beauty to helping others see the beauty within themselves and their own life journeys. In this episode we chat all about Loren's personal journey within motherhood, how her body changed throughout her pregnancies, the changes and challenges that she went through and how she managed to re-build that healthy relationship back with her body. We touch on societal pressures when it comes to post-baby bodies, how a the loss confidence within our post-baby bodies can flow onto our relationships and sexuality and Loren delves into her story around why she made those changes and how she began to accept and love her body again. Lastly she shares with us her top 3 ways to start building on self-love and body acceptance again! The classic liberal arts and sciences education represents the prototypical college experience, yet many argue that modern times call for different kinds of programs and degrees. Is it possible, though, that a liberal arts education may be more valuable now than ever? Amy and Mike invited Kenyon admissions officer Ellen Turner to enumerate the virtues of attending a liberal arts college. What are five things you will learn in this episode? What is different or unique about attending a liberal arts and sciences college? What distinctive academic opportunities do liberal arts colleges offer? How is the undergraduate focus of a liberal arts college beneficial to students? Is a classic liberal arts education still valuable in the 21st century? What kind of student thrives in a liberal arts environment? MEET OUR GUESTS A graduate of both Kenyon College and Harvard University, Ellen Turner has worked in education throughout her entire career. She was a guidance counselor, teacher, and academic dean at the secondary level for thirty years. In 2016, Ellen returned to work in the admissions office at Kenyon College. A lover of symmetry, the return was fitting as Kenyon admissions was the place where she started her career almost 40 years ago. Although she thoroughly enjoys working with young people as they figure out their futures, her most favorite role in life is being a grandmother of four. When not being an admissions professional, counselor or Mumsie (grandma code word), she likes to read (mysteries), travel with her husband and solve puzzles. Find Ellen at turnere@kenyon.edu or 740-427-5791.
