Okay, let's be honest… Some days, your body just feels... off. The jeans don't fit right. A photo catches you off guard. And suddenly, you're in a full-on spiral, questioning your progress, your worth, and whether anything you're doing is working. If you've been there (or you're there right now), this episode is for you. I'm walking you through five mindset shifts to keep in your back pocket for those low-confidence days, the ones where nothing feels quite right. These aren't surface-level affirmations. These are truth-based reminders that actually help reframe the way you show up for your body. Inside this episode, you'll hear: Why loving your body has nothing to do with loving how it looks What confidence is really rooted in (hint: it's not your size) How to unlearn the body shame you've picked up over the years Why care rooted in respect lasts longer than motivation rooted in self-criticism And why how you feel in your body will always matter more than how it looks in the mirror This is the episode to come back to whenever you feel disconnected from your body, discouraged by your progress, or just need a reminder that you don't have to be perfect to be confident. In this powerful episode, Athena Dobson sits down with Tamsin Broster to explore the deeply personal and universal topic of body confidence—a crucial issue that affects many women. Tamsin shares her journey, highlighting the struggles with body image that began at a young age and how they evolved over time. Through her candid reflections, she sheds light on how societal pressures often dictate the way women perceive their bodies and how those perceptions can impact both their personal and professional lives. The conversation also dives into the profound changes brought on by motherhood and how they can reshape a woman's relationship with her body and self-esteem. Tamsin also opens up about the emotional and physical shifts of perimenopause and how they can challenge one's confidence, especially in a world where women are constantly encouraged to measure themselves against unrealistic media standards.Athena and Tamsin round up the podcast by exploring the importance of authenticity, self-worth, and the need to separate our value from body size or appearance. They discuss how embracing self-acceptance is vital not only for personal growth but for professional success as well. Throughout the podcast, Tamsin emphasizes the power of community support in navigating body image challenges and reminds us that our bodies are not problems to be fixed—but homes to be celebrated. Happy Satiated Saturday! Fitness culture has made body image recovery even more confusing. I've seen people year after year question if it is alright to want to lose weight, or lift weights, or increase muscle. What I like to return to is the intention behind these desires and how they feel in your body. Any intention approached from a place of self hate, of disrespecting the body, or pushing the body beyond what it can handle, compromising its health, is not a goal that will lead to nervous system regulation and bodily safety. First and foremost though, I believe in body autonomy and for you to choose for yourself what adventures you'd like to take with your body. What we typically need to explore is how to embark on those adventures that respects your body, takes care of your body, and supports your body along the way. In this week's episode, I chat with Kitty Blomfield, cofounder of NuStrength and Saturee, about: Balancing body goals and self worthBody acceptance and desires for fat lossEmpowerment through strength trainingNavigating body image across different life stagesApproaching nutrition with curiosity Finding your Goldilocks spot with foodYou can also read the transcript to this week's episode here: https://www.stephaniemara.com/blog/building-muscle-self-worth-and-body-confidenceThere is one more month until the Befriending Your Body Image Challenges Workshop happening on Wednesday, August 27th at 5:00 pm ET. In this candid talk, Lyndsay Soprano sits down with Amber Abila—a woman who's been there, who's been through it, and who found herself on the other side.Amber opens up about her binge-eating journey, peeling back the layers to reveal how dieting, stress, and outdated habits rewired her brain into a food-fueled panic button. This week I'm delighted to be joined by Cat LaCohie and we're talking everything body confidence. We explore the reality of societal pressures that many women face after pregnancy, and how Cat uses burlesque as a medium to reconnect women with their bodies and embrace self-love. But this episode is not just about burlesque. It's about the journey of self-discovery, and the transformative power of reclaiming one's identity. Cat shares how embodying powerful characters through burlesque helped her reclaim her strength during moments of self-doubt. She challenges the notion of seeking constant approval from others, emphasizing the value of self-worth and the joy of being in the company of the right people. As our conversation draws to a close, Cat sheds light on the importance of being vocal about who you are, and how it helps filter out those who don't belong in your life. She shares her inspiring journey, from building her own website to teaching burlesque classes, and how she learned to say 'I'm amazing and you're welcome' instead of apologizing for her actions. The message of this episode is clear: Individuality, self-love and authenticity can be empowering tools to navigate through life's challenges.
