David Brailer the nations first National Coordinator for Health IT was interviewed at the CHIME Summer Forum by Scott MacLean of MedStar Health, here are some excerpts:on Public HealthI came into the government, not that long after 9/11. When the L E X S the Law Enforcement eXchange System was put in place to allow information sharing from a local police department to the intelligence agencies. So it was seamless and integrated and analyzed. And that was a perfect metaphor for the public health. P H X S that is what we wanted to build (for public health), and we designed that and we could never get it funded. And to this day, we're living with a really dilapidated and obsolete public health information infrastructureon Interoperabilitywe believed philosophically that interoperability should come first. The medical internet as we called it, the nationwide health information network should come before we start putting appliances and technologies on the end. And of course, because of the stimulus during the great recession and the hitech act, electronic records came first and now we're still catching up with #interoperability.on Disruptionyou're suddenly going to have potentially thousands, hundreds of thousands of requests for data, from people. And they're going to start doing things with it and then disrupt the hospitals. That's going to accrue back to the hospital with people coming into the emergency room because of the app. So they have a problem, and it's based on data they got from you. To me. I don't think providers are prepared for it. And I think, they're not prepared for the care delivery impact or what it means when they no longer can protect the fiefdom of their own data and use it to secure an advantage in the market. So we'll see, I, I'm optimistic because I think sometimes you get to break things a little bit to be able to fix themA lot to think about. Much thanks to the National Coordinators for Health IT who have moved this vision along.#healthcare #healthIT #chime #himss #cio #cmio
What do we learn about the future of interoperability and data sharing when seven former National Coordinators for health IT covering four administrations are on stage together.Micky Tripathi, Biden AdministrationDon Rucker Trump AdministrationVindell Washington Obama AdministrationKaren Desalvo - Obama AdministrationFarzad Mostashari - Obama AdministrationDavid Blumenthal - Obama AdministrationRob Kolodner - Bush AdministrationThe primary thing we learn is the continuity of the strategy across administrations. Karen Desalvo summed it up well when she said "And it's just important. I think for the audience to understand that the theme here is that we build on each other's work. And we try to do that in a very nonpartisan way, because that gives the industry a lot more certainty about where the future's going to go."21st Century Cures wasn't a fluke, it was a continuation of a strategy that frees the data from silos in order to bring advances to the patients when they need them. To give them actionable data and agency over that data in pursuit of health. To give them choice in their health decisions and to provide clinicians with powerful tools to make them more effective in the delivery of care.Mistakes have been made on the journey, but the direction remains the same across the last two decades of work by the ONC national coordinators. #healthcare #healthIT #chime #himss #cio #cmio

The move of the WAILING WOMEN WORLDWIDE is essentially a call to prayer. It is the Lord Himself raising a global army of Spirit-filled women to labor in fervent intercession for the cleansing and unity of the universal church and the redemption of the nations of the world. This clarion call is for: Women who will stand in the gap for their families, cities, nations and continents so that God's ultimate purpose of reconciling and restoring the "old waste places" on earth may be achieved. Women who will intercede worldwide to ensure that the "knowledge of the glory of God" actually "fills the earth as the waters cover the sea". Habakkuk 2:14. The call of the Wailing Women is contained in Jeremiah 9:17-18: "Thus saith the LORD of hosts, consider ye and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for cunning women, and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters." A Global Army Describing this global army, the prophet Joel said: "A fire devours before them, and behind them a flame burns: the land is as the Garden of Eden before them and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea and nothing shall escape them. The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run. Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devours the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array" (Joel 2:3-5). The vision for this work is global and membership is open to all true believing Christian women from all works of life, all strata of society and all races. At the global levels there are 12 International and 12 National Coordinators that oversee the work. The emphasis is on teamwork and the ultimate aim is to equip servant leaders who can do God's work God's own way.
Earlier this week, we spoke with Ellie Hudson (SCAA) about some of the upcoming changes for the organisation as it begins to prepare for alignment with SCAE. Today, we’d like to share the SCAE side of the story—David Veal sat down with Steve in Gothenburg, not far from the excitement of the World Cup Taster’s Final, to talk about some of the exciting things SCAE launched in Gothenburg. Also covered: plans for Dublin’s World of Coffee, support for National Coordinators, and potential future locations for World of Coffee 2017-2019.

David Himmelstein, M.D. — Harvard Medical School, co-founder, Physicians for a National Health Plan is the guest on this edition of Tell Somebody. The following came in a press release from Public Citizen: Two-Thirds of Bankruptcies Are Medically Related; National Health Insurance Needed NowStatement of Sidney Wolfe, M.D., Director, Health Research Group at Public CitizenA nationwide study showing that 62 percent of bankruptcies in 2007 were related to medical bills or illness underscores the need for a single-payer health care system. The study, conducted by researchers at Harvard Medical School, Harvard Law School and Ohio State University (David Himmelstein, Steffie Woolhandler, Elizabeth Warren and Deborah Thorne) found the high bankruptcy rate even though more than three-quarters (78 percent) of the people having medical bankruptcies had health insurance - mainly private insurance - at the start of their illness. It is astounding that medically related bankruptcies increased by half from 2001 to 2007 - well before the current economic crisis.Dr. Himmelstein, one of the authors of the study, will talk about it and why a single payer plan is the only solution that makes sense. Dr. Himmelstein practices and teaches primary care internal medicine at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard. He was a co-founder of PNHP and one of two National Coordinators for the first five years of the organization. Dr. Himmelstein co-authored PNHP’s original proposal, its long-term care proposal, and its proposal for financing a national health program.
