Honor Roberts chats with Fr Toby about an upcoming film screening hosted by SPUC and Catholic Mothers.Adoption stories are often told from the perspective of adoptees or adoptive parents, leaving the voices of birth mothers largely unheard. The Inner Sea, an award-winning documentary by filmmaker Kate Stapleton, changes that narrative by offering a rare glimpse into the adoption experience through the eyes of a birth mother. Directed by Stapleton, who also plays the role of the first-time filmmaker and birth mother, The Inner Sea invites audiences to witness the emotional complexities of adoption, identity, and healing.MORNINGS WITH RADIO MARIA airs live every weekday at 9am, featuring a wide range of guests with interesting stories to tell and things to share. This week on Culture Tuesday, Stephanie Peña and Helena Judd review Glenrothan, the directorial debut of Brian Cox set in the Scottish Highlands. The film follows two estranged brothers reunited after 40 years apart at their family whisky distillery, exploring themes of family conflict, regret and the long journey towards forgiveness. With echoes of the prodigal son, the story unfolds through grief, memory and the possibility of reconciliation.Stephanie and Helena reflect on the powerful performances, the emotional depth of the characters and the role of those around them who help open the path to healing. Set against the stunning landscape of Scotland, Glenrothan is both a visual tribute to place and a moving story of brokenness and hope.

On this week's Culture Tuesday, Helena returns from Easter break with a heartfelt and thought-provoking review of the new science fiction film Project Hail Mary, starring Ryan Gosling.Blending personal reflection with Easter themes of resurrection, grace and renewal, Helena explores how the film's story of an astronaut on a last-chance mission to save Earth unexpectedly echoes deep spiritual truths. From its central character Ryland Grace to its themes of sacrifice, friendship and hope in the face of isolation, she draws out surprising parallels with Catholic understandings of grace.Along the way, Helena reflects on key moments in the film, its emotional storytelling, striking visuals and moving depiction of the connection between worlds, including the astronaut's unlikely friendship with an alien companion. She also considers how secular storytelling can still point towards deeper questions of meaning, love and salvation. With honesty, humour and plenty of enthusiasm, this episode offers a unique Catholic lens on a major new cinema release while inviting listeners to reflect on grace at work in unexpected places.

In today's Culture Tuesday, Helena shares an account of her recent pilgrimage with the Parish of Holy Family, Leicester. Journeying together from church to church—beginning at Our Lady of Good Counsel, continuing to Sacred Heart Church and concluding at St Joseph's—parishioners united in a powerful public witness of faith, carrying a large cross through their community. Along the way, participants reflected on why they chose to give their Sunday afternoon to this act of devotion—coming together not just as individuals, but as one family in Christ. From young to old, the pilgrimage became a moment of shared prayer, evangelisation, and meditation on the Lord's Passion. This episode highlights the quiet but transformative power of pilgrimage: how stepping out together in faith can break down the walls and distances that often separate us, even within our own parish communities. It's a reminder that when we gather intentionally—across ages and backgrounds—we don't just walk side by side, we grow stronger as one body, rooted in Christ and united in mission. If you enjoyed this programme, please consider supporting us with a one-off or monthly donation. In 1947, in the small town of Montichiari in Northern Italy, nurse Pierina Gilli had an unforgettable vision while praying in the chapel of the local hospital. The Mother of God appeared to her in radiant light, sorrowful and with tears, her heart pierced by three swords. She asked for only three things: prayer, sacrifice, and penance. In a later apparition, the swords were replaced by three roses—white, red, and yellow—representing prayer, sacrifice, penance and conversion. Our Lady said: “I am the Mother of Jesus and the Mother of all of you.”Today, we hear from Judith Compton, who has been part of this apostolate in the UK since 1988, working alongside the late Mrs Gwen Maclaren.
