When Chris has had a hard day at work, or his girlfriend has dumped him and hooked up with that stupid drummer or his rent is late and his dog died- he likes to share his pain. He does this by subjecting himself to horrible media and then bitching about it. It doesn't really make Chris feel any better, but Chris has heard that it's pretty entertaining to other people. Would you like to listen? Good, because here it is. This time it's a truly mutant episode. Chris has seen probably the most evil, dangerous and transgressive film ever -A Serbian Film (Srpski Film). It is the first and hopefully the last time you see a film that Chris actually LIKES on this show. But just because a film is incredibly well written, acted, shot and directed, doesn't mean it can't also be INSANELY PAINFUL! Chris was so traumatized that he found another Chris to watch this film and commiserate with him. Who is this brave soldier? It's Chris Tyler, the legendary and wise HAIR METAL HERO! WARNING WARNING WARNING! There is some strong, STRONG ADULT CONTENT in this podcast. Lines you never knew existed get crossed! NOTE -- The Two True Freaks! now have a phone line where you can call and leave a completely inappropriate message - We just might use it on the show! It's 585-COP-LURE!! This month brings a special edition of Star Wars Monthly Monday! With Scott on temporary leave, Chris has prepared a little blast from the past. You may have heard the Freaks talk about their two panels at DragonCon 2009 -- well, here they are in their complete, uncut glory! First is the Clone Wars panel, where they met good friend of the show George Krstic and defended the honor of their favorite weekly animated Star Wars show. Then, it's the infamous Star Wars: ADULT THEMES panel where they treat good taste like Han Solo treats a dead Tauntaun! Next month, the Freaks will be returning to their regular format with both Chris AND Scott! That's right! They said it! Get up off your ass and make a podcast! This month the Freaks strike off in a different direction. WAIT! BEFORE YOU LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE CHECK OUT BACK TO THE BINS #65! < YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! WELCOME BACK TO THE MOST AWESOME PODCAST ABOUT THE GOLDEN AGE DC CHARACTERS EVER! It is a lean and mean episode this week as Scott and Mike were pressed for time but it is solid nonetheless! This issue, All-Star Squadron#8, kicks off with Steel fighting the Black Assassin, a villain Scott believes is misnomered because the guy ISN'T black (and if comics had taught Scott one thing, it's that if a character has the word "black" in their name then they are supposed to be black)!! Then we get a re-worked version of the first half of the unpublished STEEL: THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN#6, which proves to Mike that his high opinion of Don Heck's work on STEEL was colored by Ordway's inks over Heck's pencils in this and the next issue of ALL-STAR SQUADRON. So all of that is composed of pure, 100-proof awesome, right? Nothing could possibly mess that up, right? WRONG! Kung the Assassin shows up and stinks up the joint. Seriously. This guy sucks out loud. Thankfully this doesn't ruin the story and proves to be a mild speed bump in an otherwise fantastic issue. The issue commentary is followed by a fairly long, but fascinating discussion on the merits of Jerry Ordway's current art, which leads to talk of Superman and Captain Marvel. It's a lengthy digression, to be sure, but was a lot of fun to record! Finally, the guys dive into Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse and that rounds out the episode! NEXT WEEK! ALL-STAR SQUADRON #9 AND THE END OF WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO STEEL! YOU GOT THAT?!! GOOD! CUZ IT WILL BE THE MOST EPIC THING SINCE EVER ALL OVER AGAIN!! Oh, it's all here this month in Comics Monthly Monday!! We got yer Redneck Space Pirates vs. Asgardians -- all in the name of poisoning children with sugar and fat!! We got yer Comic Bag -- involving two unrelated stories (one with a gun and one with the moral "don't unbag a comic shop back issue without asking!"). We got yer John Byrne with The Uncanny X-Men 109 in which the evil and twisted Canadians ruin a tranquil mutant picnic. What? THAT AIN'T ENOUGH?! Ok, wise guy, chew on some Swamp Thing here! We gots issue 21 -- The Anatomy Lesson!! Maybe you've heard of this story? It was written by some guy named Alan Moore. Lastly, JUST FOR LAUGHS, we'll chop off three more issues of The Walking Dead for you to gnaw on. NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!! ONCE AGAIN, THE MOST AWESOME THING TO HAPPEN TO THE INTERNET (SINCE FREE PORN ANYWAY) IS AVAILABLE FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE!! TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA is back and Scott and Mike are both tanked up on Jolt cola and Hostess fruit pies, so this is going to be a good one! First up, the guys talk about ALL-STAR SQUADRON #7, which is set during the Christmas of 1941 leading Scott and Mike to talk about the whole Christmas in July experience from when they were younger and lived in the north. They have predominantly positive things to say about the issue as a whole, mostly because it contains one of THE BEST Nazi themed super-villains ever -- BARON BLITZKRIEG! We even catch up on how the JSA is handling military life and are treated to a TRULY AWESOME sequence of Robotman beaching a Nazi submarine!! Does it get any cooler?! Well, there's also the usual historical notes and commentary. There aren't much in the way of ads this week and, sadly, the guys discuss their (gasp, choke, sob) FINAL HOSTESS AD for this series!! But it is a doozy , folks, and features the Dread Avenger hisself -- The Batman -- fighting a guy in a dog costume. Not the Dark Knight's finest moment, I'll grant you, but it is made of 100% COMEDY GOLD! After a quick break, the guys return with the Huntress back-up from WONDER WOMAN #277. It's a pretty basic story with the Huntress considering her options on what to do about the fact that D.A. Sims knows her secret identity -- and one of these options is... MURDER!! Also, we get the "big reveal" on just what is up with that secretary from Helena's law firm -- and this is where Mike really starts disliking the story, leading to one of the few big disagreements between Scott and Mike that was finally settled in The Thunderdome! Two men entered and... well... two men left because Scott and Mike are really out of shape and got tired and decided to go have Mexican at El Ranchero in Peachtree City, GA (which is surprisingly close to Bartertown). Anyhoo, you get all of that!! AND some e-mails before the guys ran out of time -- but they promise to read even more e-mails next time!! How about that, huh?! NEXT WEEK: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #8 YOU GOT THAT?!! GOOD! CUZ IT WILL BE THE MOST EPIC THING SINCE EVER! The internet's BEST Star Trek Podcast Returns for yet another exciting installment!! But... what's going on here?! By some weird coincidence, BOTH episodes of Star Trek this episode feature the Enterprise crew fighting greasy-faced enemies for some powerful alien's mysterious purposes! First in the original series episode "The Day Of The Dove" and then in the Next Generation episode "Hide And Q"! What is it about omnipotent aliens that makes them such a royal pain in the ass? The Freaks bring in Trek experts Jon M. Wilson (of the Amazing Spider-Man Classics Podcast), Juan Schwartz of the Andorian Cosplayers Society (San Francisco chapter), and Michael Bailey (of the Views From The Longbox Podcast) to ponder this question. Finally, things are coming to a serious head in the Mirror Universe story arc in DC Comics' Star Trek issue 14, where it seems once again to be Kirk Vs. EVERYONE! Guess who wins? NOTE -- The Two True Freaks! now have a phone line where you can call and leave a completely inappropriate message - We just might use it on the show! It's 585-COP-LURE!! "TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA" featuring The All-Star Squadron RETURNS! Yes, the internet radio show you just can't get rid of (and why would you want to?!) is back with EVEN MORE exciting World War II-era JSA adventures -- plus a bonus or two thrown in just because Mike and Scott love ya! This week, the guys start out with ALL-STAR SQUADRON #6, which wraps up the Feathered Serpent storyline. This is a weird one because Scott and Mike have some fairly positive things to say about it (gasp!), but the problems were pretty epic. For one thing, the truth behind the Feathered Serpent is the worst kind of wonky and showcased one of several of Scott and Mike's least favorite comic book cliches (and, you know these guys, they spend a lot of time whining about it). However, there is much gushing over NEW ARTIST Adrian Gonzales and his dynamic stylings. Plus -- The LISTENER-FAVORITE FEATURE -- The Hostess Ad!! This week: Featuring the Fastest Man Alive -- The Flash! With guest-villain Kenny Rogers as Dumbledore! Stand by after the break for MORE of The Huntress back-up stories from Wonder Woman #s 274-276. This exciting story, which was a vast improvement over the last storyarc, sees the Huntress team-up with gal-pal Power Girl to fights... The Thinker! This was a really solid story with a bit of a weak ending, and the art is a little odd in places, but STILL -- it was Power Girl and Huntress teaming up!! Sadly, there are no 'Cinemax-at-3-o'clock-in-the-morning' moments. ...bummer... You get ALL of this PLUS listener feedback AND 'Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse', too!! Not a bad deal for just 3 easy installments of $99.95 each!! Next week: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #7 and MORE of The Huntress back-up feature!! Simply The Bestest Podcast You've Ever Heard... or my name isn't William Howard Taft!! WELCOME TO ANOTHER EXCITING AND FREAKIN' AWESOME EPISODE OF THE "TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA"! Sure, it's a tad late this week, but that's only because this episode is so amazing that the greatest of care had to be taken in the editing process! Not buying it, huh? Oh, well. It was worth a shot. In any case, this week sees Scott and Mike continue their look at The ALL-STAR SQUADRON with issue five and boy, was there a lot to talk about in this one!! Not only do the Justice Society make a major decision affecting the future of that team, but a NEW HERO is introduced and -- she is HOT! No, seriously! (Her powers are flame based) Beyond that, Mike admits his feelings about the villain known as the Feathered Serpent and the guys talk about the history of the Stature of Liberty! Thanks to Scott, the guys also present the complete speech President Frankling Delano Roosevelt gave to Congress on December 8, 1941. Scott also mentions the awesome Independence Day episode he recorded for "Two True Freaks!", so make sure you give that special a listen. It is kid tested, Mike approved, and you may find it here -- http://twotruefreaks.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=627867 After the break, the guys discuss BRAVE AND THE BOLD #182. In this exciting issue, the Batman of Earth-1 teams up with the Robin of Earth-2 and, while you would think that such a team-up would be a mutual admiration society meeting, it turns out to be anything but!! For one thing, Robin has a mega-sized stick up his butt about Batman looking like... well... Batman!! Then there's the addition of the Batwoman of Earth-2 getting involved and she just brings nothing but creepy to the party. Sure, the concept is cool and the Jim Aparo art is sixteen flavors of greatness, but the wonky elements are definitely there and both Scott and Mike have a hard time downplaying them. So, you get these TWO books, PLUS Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse, AND a whole slew o' e-mails! This episode has it ALL!! --- Well, except any Hostess Ads (queue sad trombone). Next week: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #6 and ANOTHER "back-up feature" (that I don't know what it is yet)! Simply The Bestest Podcast You've Ever Heard... or my name isn't William Howard Taft!! WELCOME TO YET ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF EARTH-2 COMIC BOOK AWESOME SAUCE! That's right, folks. This week, Scott and Mike hop back into the Flux Capacitor fueled 1991 Toyota Corolla (c'mon, like either one of these clowns could afford a DeLorean!) and head back to December, 1941 to talk about ALL-STAR SQUADRON #4. In this exciting issue, the All-Stars head to Pearl Harbor and decide that it is high time to take the fight to the Japanese! Problem is that the Dragon King, evil agent of the Axis powers, is ready for them with the Holy Grail and a whole lot of pseudo-science/mysticism. This results in the most powerful members of the All-Stars going all evil and trying to kill their fellow members! The conversation is fast, loose, and lively -- centering around the use of racial epithets in the context of stories set in the past and why Mike freakin' hates the Dragon King. PLUS -- there are ads (including a Hostess ad involving the Penguin where the Gotham PD actually does something for once in their miserable lives)!! Also -- Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse!! Then, it's back to the Corolla (which really sucks because, for some reason, when the car is idling the air conditioning stops working and hot air blows out of the vents!! It's summer, for crying out loud!! IT IS HOT!!) and a quick jaunt ahead to the somewhat more recent Earth-2 timeline where the fellas discuss the Huntress back-ups from WONDER WOMAN #271 through 273. The guys don't have too much to say about this story because it is... well... goofy as hell. I mean, the main thrust of this story is the fact that Solomon Grundy is leading a gang and stealing art. Seriously. Solomon Grundy: Gang Leader. Who in their their right mind would belong to a gang led by Solomon Freakin' Grundy?! He's A Zombie, For Chrissakes!! After trying to make heads or tails of that, the guys read some of YOUR e-mails!! Scott reveals his TRUE FEELINGS about the Super Friends -- during which Mike very nearly steps in it regarding the live action SHAZAM series, until Scott finally realizes the point Mike was trying to make -- and thus WAR is narrowly avoided. TWO HOURS OF THE BEST PODCASTING YOU WILL HEAR ALL WEEK! Guaranteed or we start shooting the hostages!! Next week: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #5 and BRAVE AND THE BOLD #182. Make sure you take some good notes because there will be a quiz! NOTE -- The Two True Freaks! now have a phone line where you can call and leave a completely inappropriate message - We just might use it on the show! It's 585-COP-LURE!! Welcome back to the TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA! This week, Scott and Mike continue their trip in the way back machine as they take a look at issues 2 and 3 of the ALL-STAR SQUADRON!! And, boy oh boy, were these two FANTASTIC and FREAKISHLY AWESOME issues!! This episode concludes the first story arc for the All-Stars and, in true adventure series fashion, the action begins on one side of the country and ends on the other! The All-Stars, newly formed by FDR himself, are off on their first official mission, but not before taking a moment to beat the living bejeezus out of a group of thugs who picked entirely the wrong freakin' day in American history to try to pull off a job!! The All-Stars are soon bound for Frisco and we learn the origins of all of the heroes in attendance. As if THAT wasn't enough, we learn the hows and whyfors of Per Degaton's plans, too! Why is he attacking San Francisco? How did all of the villains appear out of their own times? Just who in the hell prints out the lettering for the self-destruct buttons? All of these questions and more are discussed!! (Notice we said "discussed", not "answered.) But that's not all! There are ads!! Sad and pathetic little ads to be sure, but two of them ARE Hostess related and that can only mean one thing, gentle listener -- COMEDY GOLD! In these ads, you get Batman fighting a horrible film director and Red Tornado battles the fact that Mike and Scott are mentally fourteen years old. Plus, it's the return of Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse where Scott and Mike catch up on FOUR MONTHS worth of the other titles that were released alongside All-Star Squadron issues 1 through 3 -- and go on a series of tangents so wild you'll wonder if they forgot what the show was about... Next week: All-Star Squadron #4 ...where All-Star BATTLES All-Star!! Be There!! Or I'm telling your mom!!
