It's been over a month since the NHL announced their opening night schedule and Frogboy is still not over the back to back Champs being placed in the 5:30 slot, which then spirals into a conversation of if 100 fans from each franchise were to fight to the death for these time slots, who would be the last fan base standing? After the Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders was confirmed to be injured the Dolphins signed a new kicker til Sanders can make his return, and lets just say … it doesn't sound great! Frogboy then gives Leroy and Brittney the list of notable players in the NFL for MVP this season… they had issues with it. If Frogboy is hosting then you know games will be played, the gang plays a South Florida Sports edition of The Price is Right… and naturally it gets competitive.
✦ Brunching in Atlanta is practically a sport, and many of us don't know how to play. There are strategies involved—arrive early to beat the rush of a crowd, or maybe you're a diner that prefers to make reservations. BUT in this economy, who has the money to drop $80 to $100 on breakfast food and drinks every weekend? In our new mini-series, "Brunchin' on a Budget," we look at several delicious AND affordable brunch spots in Atlanta. On today's installment of "Brunchin' on a Budget," WABE Arts Reporter Summer Evans heads to Memorial Drive to highlight Homegrown. ✦ City Lights Collective member Shane Harrison spends his days at Arts ATL looking for cultural events to share with readers. He joins us weekly to share highlights, and today his mix includes House in the Park, The Atlanta Black Theater Festival, and a preview of Dragon Con. ✦ Dee Dee Bridgewater embodies jazz. She takes jazz standards and makes them her own while being true to the original composition. This is something she's done before and since releasing her debut album in 1974. No stranger to Atlanta, Ms. Bridgewater returns to the Rialto Center for the Arts on September 6 to the delight of all. Ahead of her concert, City Lights Collective Co-Host Jon Goode sat down with Ms. Bridgewater to discuss her new album, her return to Atlanta, and to share a laugh or three. ✦ Get ready for some cinematic chaos, VHS Deathmatch is coming to Monday Night Garage on September 26th. Part screening, part comedy showdown, the event takes the best (and worst) of B-movie VHS tapes and pits them head-to-head for ultimate bragging rights. City Lights Collective producer Josh Thane spoke with organizer Kristopher Bolz about the madness audiences can expect at the Deathmatch. ✦ Kosmo Vinyl is a visual artist and lifelong music lover. He bought his first LP when he was just nine years old and went on to spend decades immersed in the world of music. He got his start at London's groundbreaking indie label Stiff Records, and in 1979, he began working exclusively with The Clash—staying with the band until they disbanded in 1986. Today, Kosmo's legendary record collection fuels his social media series Kosmo's Vinyl of the Week, and he joins us every Wednesday to share the stories behind the records he treasures. Today, he tells us the story behind Creedence Clearwater Revival's 1969 hit, "Born on the Bayou." ✦ Ebony magazine debuted in 1945 and quickly became an inspiring celebration of Black life, culture, and achievement. The monthly magazine thrived for over seven decades, and within its pages lived the iconic column, "Fashion Fair," created by Eunice W. Johnson. "Mrs. Johnson," as all reverently called her, is the subject of the children's book, "Miles of Style," Eunice W. Johnson and the Ebony Fashion Fair." The book is the first by Atlanta author Lisa D. Brathwaite, and when City Lights Collective co-host Kim Drobes spoke with the author last year, Brathwaite explained how she first learned about Mrs. Johnson.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
“We can't ever talk about this so let's talk about not talking about it when we're talking about it…” Released on July 14th, 1992, COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION, the 5th MEGADETH album (and the 2nd to feature “the classic lineup” of Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, Marty Friedman, and Nick Menza) would become the follow up to “one of the most perfect thrash albums of all time”, featuring a more streamlined, simplified, straight forward approach which served as a sonic palette cleanser to the progressive thrash complexity of 1990's masterpiece, Rust In Peace. Simply stated, COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION is complex in its simplicity. Even though this might be the most offensive episode we've ever made, we'd like to remind everyone that we're still all about “rainbows and peaches” even though we've emphatically stated for the record that “we're not gonna talk about it”. Remember proper cell phone etiquette to avoid being bothersome to others, prepare yourself for “The Average Double-Team”, head on down to Dangol County for some “High Speed Dirt”, and last but not least, find out “how to get out of offending anybody” when you “go pick up some honkies” and JOIN US as we start the clock and begin our analysis of MEGADETH's COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION. Hey gang! This week on the show we cover the 2001 WWF SummerSlam and the Smackdown that followed. It definitely seems like a bit of a transition period, but we are here to see where it goes. We also had boots on the ground at the premier Deathmatch tournament in the Midwest: The Insane 8. It was a great time in Waukesha, and those folks should be proud of the show they presented. We also took some time to chat about the first SuperBrawl and a whole lot more. Cheers!

In H1 2025, a new social engineering technique called ClickFix started reshaping the threat landscape, quickly becoming the latest craze among all kinds of threat actors and rising to #2 in ESET telemetry. In stark contrast to this surge, law enforcement disrupted two major infostealer-as-a-service operations: Lumma Stealer and Danabot. And of course, no threat report would be complete without ransomware—this time highlighted by dramatic, deathmatch-style infighting that brought down several players including the leading RansomHub. TCW Podcast Episode 238 - Quake We dive into the development of Quake, the ambitious and turbulent follow-up to Doom from ID Software. John Carmack set out to build a groundbreaking engine featuring full 3D rendering, dynamic lighting, and client-server multiplayer. This pushed the technical boundaries in a pre-GPU world. To achieve this, he brought in legendary programmer Michael Abrash from Microsoft, selling him on the vision of Quake as a step toward the metaverse as imagined in Snow Crash. Meanwhile, John Romero envisioned Quake as a fantasy RPG inspired by a character from his D&D campaign, but lack of direction and his growing obsession with Deathmatch led to team frustration and eventual fallout. The result was a game that redefined first-person shooters and laid the groundwork for decades of engine development. It also marked the end of an era at ID with the ouster of John Romero. Welcome to the blood-stained altar where pain becomes prophecy.Out past the flickering lights and forgotten roads lies the underground cathedral of carnage—the Deathmatch arena. Barbed wire sings lullabies. Light tubes explode like divine wrath. Broken glass glitters like sacred relics. And in the center of it all: two souls, unchained from sanity, offering their flesh to something older, darker, and watching. This isn't just wrestling—it's ritual. This is where the scream of steel and the echo of bone summon truths that can't be spoken. Where cryptic figures with painted faces and stitched-up secrets sacrifice themselves for glory, or maybe… just for release. On Its Cryptic Out There, we descend into the abyss of Deathmatch culture—myth, madness, and mayhem. Step inside. If you can hear the bell toll, it's already too late. The Debut of Josh Ferrell – April 12, Pearisburg, VAThe wait is over. The dream becomes real.On April 12, under the buzzing lights of the Pearisburg Community Center, Josh Ferrell steps into the squared circle for the very first time—not as a fan, not as a trainee, but as a professional wrestler. A year of grinding, training, and sacrifice come down to this moment: one night, one fight, one chance to prove he belongs. In a town that raised him, Josh returns not just to perform—but to make a statement. Expect heart. Expect fire. Expect the unexpected.Because this isn't just a debut… it's the birth of something violent, raw, and real.Come witness history in the making. Pearisburg, you've never seen Josh like this before.CRYPTIC HOTLINE: (615) 447-8258itscrypticoutthere@gmail.com

This week, we're scratching The Itch for sci-fi! Lotta Ruutiainen of LUNA KILLS joins us to discuss her band's new album DEATHMATCH, including a song that came together through a writing practice she never wants to try again. We also discuss her love for all science fiction, the decision for a Finnish band to sing in English, her literal rock star tattoos, and the joy of discovering Deftones for the first time. Plus, The Itch dares to ask about a band name origin, and Aaron is reminded that he needs to see Blade Runner. (He now has.) Enjoy.
