Varun Mohan is the co-founder and CEO of Windsurf (formerly Codeium), an AI-powered development environment (IDE) that has been used by over 1 million developers in just four months and has quickly emerged as a leader in transforming how developers build software. Prior to finding success with Windsurf, the company pivoted twice—first from GPU virtualization infrastructure to an IDE plugin, and then to their own standalone IDE.In this conversation, you'll learn:1. Why Windsurf walked away from a profitable GPU infrastructure business and bet the company on helping engineers code2. The surprising UI discovery that tripled adoption rates overnight.3. The secret behind Windsurf's B2B enterprise plan, and why they invested early in an 80-person sales team despite conventional startup wisdom.4. How non-technical staff at Windsurf built their own custom tools instead of purchasing SaaS products, saving them over $500k in software costs5. Why Varun believes 90% of code will be AI-generated, but engineering jobs will actually increase6. How training on millions of incomplete code samples gives Windsurf an edge, and creates a moat long-term7. Today we’re talking about food. Specifically, Big Food. In his book, “Barons: Money, Power, and the Corruption of America's Food Industry,” Austin Frerick, agricultural and antitrust policy fellow at Yale, argues the food system is the most consolidated sector in the United States. On the show today, Frerick explains how the American food system became so concentrated, how that’s inflated prices and eroded quality, and what we should do about it. Plus, Walmart’s role as king of grocery kings. Then, we’ll get into why Boeing can’t keep up with SpaceX. And, an expert on youth mental health (and former guest on “Make Me Smart”) was wrong about how teens curate their social media feeds. Here’s everything else we talked about today: “Lax Antitrust Enforcement Imperils The Nation's Supply Chains” from Forbes “What Is “Big Ag,” and Why Should You Be Worried About Them?” from Union of Concerned Scientists “The problem with growing corporate concentration and power in the global food system” from Nature Food “Major retailers are offering summer deals to entice inflation-weary shoppers” from AP News “US Consumer Confidence Rises for First Time in Four Months” from Bloomberg “Inflation now means high prices, not just rising costs” from Axios “What do Americans think about inflation?” from The Brookings Institution “Boeing Prepared to Fly Crewed Space Taxi With Helium Leak” from Bloomberg We love to hear from you. Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies, and Tony Meola are joined by CBS Sports' James Benge to break down Antonee Robinson's MOTM performance at Anfield (2:08). Is the Fulham left back world-class (08:02)? With his stock rising, is Liverpool the logical next move (12:53)? And is Jedi even better than Christian Pulisic (18:01)? Then, the crew dive into Folarin Balogun's injury and what his four-month absence means for the USMNT striker (28:05). They also take a temperature check on the USMNT center back pool and debate the point of the January camp (37:25). Finally, the guys run the Trigger Who You Want gauntlet (49:20): Should Gio Reyna be an automatic starter? Is Pulisic too good for AC Milan? Is Chucky Lozano the right move for San Diego FC? And has Charlie finally flipped on Jonathan David?
