The holidays are a time for looking back, so this week we're doing exactly that. We're talking about the ones that got away—the Sidebar guest interviews we sought out that never quite happened. We won't spoil every name here, but let's just say David Mazzucchelli, Jeffrey Jones, and Bill Sienkiewicz were among the many heartbreakers (kidding… mostly). We close out the conversation with a wish list of guests we never even got the chance to invite on, such as Serpieri, Claire Wendling, and Walt Simonson. Looking back on this era reminded us just how magical that run was—a stretch when incredible creatives were joining us week after week, and we loved every minute of it. So, join us for the final pod of 2025 as we walk down memory lane and share a few behind-the-scenes stories.

Once again, we go back to the 1970s for an obscure DC hero named...Manhunter!Manhunter (aka Paul Kirk) plays the world's most dangerous game -- hunting criminals -- amid international intrigue and machinations with all the twists and turns that you might see in a classic James Bond film. With the exception that Manhunter dies and is resurrected, but with a major twist...he goes up against an army of his own clones! This series, which played out as a backup story in Detective Comics, was the work of veteran writer and editor Archie Goodwin, and was an early work by a young penciler named Walter Simonson. Together, they crafted a saga that while short-lived, had an impact on comics fandom, and set Walt Simonson on the path to other things (Thor, etc).Your dangerous hosts are Brad Page and Chris Karam

We break down issue 51: Resurrection of Evil from June 1981! There is a new super weapon being constructed called the Tarkin. Our heroes are sent to bring down this technological terror, and at the same time there is a plot within the Empire to kill Darth Vader! In the past, Marvel has tied-in Kenner action figures and playsets. Is that what they are doing here with the Scout Walker vehicle? Or was it because they wanted to feature the cool 2-legged walker seen in The Empire Strikes Back for 2 seconds. Today in Star Wars History Disney+ streams the episode, “Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa” from The Book of Boba Fett which Guest stars Danny Trejo as the Rancor Keeper. (Does Danny Trejo make an appearance in this episode's Marvel comic?) In “The Streets of Mos Espa” the Hutt Twins come to Boba Fett's palace and offer their apologies for sending Black Krrsantan to kill him. This Book of Boba Fett episode also features the BEST Behind the scenes Easter Egg ever! During the speeder chase where the mods were pursuing the Mayor's majordomo, one of the mods crashes through a Ralph McQuarrie painting of Jabba's court from Return of the Jedi. #51 “RESURRECTION OF EVIL" Release Date: June 16, 1981 Writer: David Michelinie Artwork: Walt Simonson, Tom Palmer Cover Art: Walt Simonson General Rieekan receives word from Rebel spies that the Galactic Empire is constructing a new superweapon known as the Tarkin. Realizing the danger the new weapon poses, Rieekan sends for Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Chewbacca, Lando C and the droids. The Rebel heroes are sent to infiltrate the Tarkin, however Darth Vader observes as they arrive and sets events in motion to capture his long sought after adversary, Luke Skywalker. But little does the Dark Lord know that some of his own men are secretly plotting against him due to his vicious punishments imposed against their fellow Imperial officers. Luke has come down with a deadly virus and it's up to Leia, Lando and Chewbacca to save his life. If only they, like us, can keep track of two red jewels… Richard and Sarah break down this classic Marvel Star Wars comic and go through each comic page - commenting on artwork, storytelling, and connections to current Star Wars projects like ANDOR and AHSOKA. We recommend watching the video version of this episode on YouTube which contains the full comic as we page through it. #50 “THE CRIMSON FOREVER" Release Date: May 19, 1981 Writer: Archie Goodwin Artwork: Al Williamson, Walt Simonson, Tom Palmer Cover Art: Tom Palmer Luke Skywalker has contracted a deadly virus known as The Crimson Forever from a large red crystal. This virus leaves its victims with blood red eyes, red skin, and slows down your life functions until it just kills you. Leia remembers a story Han told her about red crystals and summons Lando and Chewbacca back to their new base. Chewbacca retells the story of how he and Han were captured and forced to retrieve the crystals from a temple. This story may hold the answer as to saving Luke's life from this deadly illness.
