There is a great opportunity to lead more effective and engaging team meetings. Jason is joined by author and organizational behavior specialist, Rebecca Hinds, for a profound conversation about elevating meeting culture. Jason is joined by leading expert on organizational behavior, Rebecca Hinds, PhD, for a tactical conversation on how to transform meetings from a reactive default into your most valuable organizational product. Please rate and review the podcast to help amplify these messages to others! Summary: In an era of chronic calendar bloat, how do high-performing teams regain their focus and drive results? In this episode of The Thermostat, Jason V. Barger sits down with Rebecca Hinds, PhD—founder of the Work Innovation Lab at Asana and the Work AI Institute at Glean—to discuss the "epidemic" of unproductive meetings. Rebecca challenges leaders to stop "spending" time and start "investing" it by treating every meeting as a carefully designed product intended to build culture and drive decision-making. Moving beyond typical time-management advice, Jason and Rebecca explore the psychology of the "meeting suck reflex" and the social pressures that keep dysfunctional meetings on the calendar. They introduce actionable frameworks like the "4D CEO Test" to determine if a meeting deserves to exist and the "Meeting Doomsday" strategy for resetting organizational habits. From the science of equal airtime to the strategic use of AI and analytics, this episode provides a blueprint for executives to optimize collaboration. Essential listening for C-suite leaders, managers, and anyone navigating the future of work, this conversation offers a fresh perspective on intentionality, corporate culture, and the art of the "Best Meeting Ever". Episode Notes & Timestamps: Intro: Jason introduces the core concept: meetings are the most important, yet least optimized, product in any organization. Meet Rebecca Hinds: An introduction to Rebecca's background at Stanford, Asana, and Glean, and how her career as a competitive swimmer shaped her view of high-performing teams. Meetings as a Product: Rebecca explains why we must apply product development principles—like user-centric design—to our internal communication. The "Meeting Doomsday" Reset: A deep look at the radical strategy of deleting all recurring meetings to rebuild a more intentional and productive calendar. The Jolt of Intentionality: Why changing a meeting from 30 minutes to 27 minutes can shift a team's mindset from the status quo to active engagement. Minimalist Design: Rebecca outlines four dimensions for leaner meetings: length, attendee list (the "stakeholders vs. spectators" rule), agenda items, and frequency. Measuring Effectiveness: How to use return on time investment (ROTI) and AI analytics to track speaking balance and multitasking. The 4D CEO Test: A two-part filter to determine if a meeting is necessary: Does it Decide, Debate, Discuss, or Develop? Is it Complex, Emotional, or a "One-Way Door"? The Future of Work: Jason and Rebecca discuss the importance of intentionality and "fresh starts" when designing corporate culture for 2026. Key Takeaways for Leaders: User-Centric Meetings: Design meetings for the attendees' needs, not just for the organizer's convenience or for those who talk the most. The Power of the Reset: Periodically "cleanse" your communication stack to eliminate outdated social contracts and unproductive habits. Strategic Communication: Use synchronous meetings for complex, high-stakes, or emotionally intense topics; use digital tools for everything else. Paul Hawken is a brilliant thinker, author, activist, and elder who masterfully distills wisdom about our planetary home. I remember hearing Paul's 2009 commencement speech called "You Are Brilliant and The Earth is Hiring" where he said "You are going to have to figure out what it means to be a human being on Earth at a time when every living system is declining and the rate of decline is accelerating." Paul is the author of nine bestselling books including 'Drawdown', 'Regeneration', and his latest book 'Carbon, The Book of Life'—an incredible book that came out in 2025 and masterfully distills endless planetary wisdom into simple truths we all need to hear. (I included it in 'The Very Best Books I Read in 2025.') Grab a seat between us and let's talk about how nature cooperates, why fighting climate change is the wrong metaphor, why the climate crisis is a human crisis, how jargon disconnects, and what decades of activism have taught Paul about being human. This conversation with a sage of sages stuck with me and I think it'll stick with you. Let's flip the page into Chapter 157 now ...
Don't take yourself too seriously, in a way, because, you know, we're insignificant. Prabhupāda signed all his letters, 'Your insignificant beggar.' And if you come in like that, I mean, how bad can you blow it as an insignificant beggar? It's like, what do you expect? I'm just doing my best right here, and I don't know where I came from. I don't know where I'm going. I don't know anything. You know, I don't know how AI is going to turn out in the end. Who does? Even the best scientists on the Earth are going, 'I don't know what this stuff is.' So, we don't know much; we're just floating around. But if you appreciate Kṛṣṇa's intelligence in the Bhagavad-gītā, just that He's talking to you directly—get that feeling, and it will guide you always. He's always there, guiding from within the heart. We have buddhi-yoga, which means 'the best.' It's way better than the paid-for version, even of ChatGPT, or the 'Deep' ChatGPT, or any of the search engines. The best search engine is there: Kṛṣṇa is in your heart because He's nice and He's actually a person, whereas AI is just recycling stuff. It comes from a data center that's going at 100°C, and you've got to keep them running and suck all the energy through one little building out of a town. You know, everything's held together by rubber bands, but Kṛṣṇa is substantial. So, just take shelter of Him, and don't worry too much. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #japajolt #makejapagreatagain #mantrameditation #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

We have no idea where we are, how we got here, or how much time we have. So, having that state of mind and preparation with Khaṭvāṅga consciousness is very mature. It's very smart. Everybody else is whiling away their time playing as if they're going to live forever. Prabhupāda once said—you can mark it, it's in the database—he said, 'A materialist is somebody who thinks, "I'll live forever." A transcendentalist is someone who thinks, "I could die at any minute."' And therefore, they are taking their life seriously. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Episode SummaryAs 2026 kicks off, Cheryl and Maxine open the year with their annual First Cheque wrap, a grounded, opinionated take on what actually shifted in Australian tech and venture, and what that means for the year ahead. They break down why 2025 marked a genuine inflection point for the ecosystem, from Canva's secondary and a surge in M&A to fresh signals that long-awaited liquidity is finally starting to flow. Despite minimal government support, Australia quietly proved itself as one of the most capital-efficient venture markets globally, producing unicorns at roughly twice the rate of the US per dollar invested. The conversation also tackles the harder truths investors and founders need to reckon with in 2026: early-stage funding compressing while late stage heats up, corporate venture capital retreating, and the gender funding gap sliding backwards. Looking forward, Cheryl and Maxine share their predictions for the year ahead, where funding volumes may land, why seed remains the toughest stage, how AI valuations could trigger a market correction, and why energy and infrastructure may emerge as the next premium asset class.Time Stamps00:00 – Intro: End of year energy: why 2025 felt different to 202403:55 – Election fallout and the government's “nothingburger” for startups05:24 – Canva's secondary and the first real signs of liquidity returning09:49 – Aussie tech M&A heats up: Canva, Linktree, Jolt, and more12:09 – The stat that changed the narrative: Australia's unicorn efficiency16:14 – The weirdest trend of the year: early stage down, late stage up18:27 – Tech jobs, data centers, and the infrastructure bet Australia is making22:52 – Why deep tech and climate are pulling venture dollars again28:21 – The gender funding gap got worse (and why)33:09 – Corporate VC is pulling out: what happened to strategic capital37:02 – 2026 predictions: funding totals, seed pain, and where capital flows next44:00 – AI bubble risk: tourism, ROI pressure, and the domino effect47:42 – Hot take: electricity is the next valuation premium49:00 – Will diversity bounce back in 2026? I had to drive to an early morning appointment, and here in my area, on the 101 freeway, which is the main thoroughfare, they have put up this system where the fast lane has signs above it that tell how much it's going to cost you to drive in the fast lane, and it's constantly changing according to how much traffic is there. It's become very sophisticated. You can see early in the morning it's practically nothing, and then later it goes up to $5, $17 if you want to drive a few miles in the fast lane. I was just thinking, because I left a little early for my appointment, that it didn't cost that much, and if I had waited a couple more minutes, it would have jumped. And I was thinking how important it is in the human form of life to try to take advantage early. Don't think, "Okay, I'll do the wrong thing and it won't make a difference." Every minute makes a difference if we want to stay in the fast lane, keep making the decisions to take Kṛṣṇa first, deal with Māyā later, and maybe next life, or never at all. Stay on that fast lane, the fast lane consciousness, just by starting early and getting your most important things done first before the price goes up and you have to pay a much higher price for it. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #makejapagreatagain #japajolt #mantrameditation #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

I just got off a class with the devotees in Mayāpur. We are taking the Bhakti-vedānta, and we have been reading this morning from the section of the Bhāgavatam: Kṛṣṇa chastises Kāliya. In our discussion, we had been talking about the ways in which Kāliya had received Kṛṣṇa's mercy because he danced on his hoods, but he simultaneously pounded him with his lotus feet. Because of that, he vomited out all the poison that he had, that was because of his unfortunate mentality, which he had become envious of. But somehow or other, his wives had offered prayers when they saw that Kāliya's mood had changed, and he had become a surrendered devotee. We were discussing about this point at which one decides to surrender to Kṛṣṇa. You don't have to wait till the poison is all pounded out of you; you can voluntarily surrender. And having the association of his wives, Jīva Gosvāmī said, who were pure devotees, that's what gave him an opportunity. His wives had thought that he must have done something previously to give him this opportunity to get Kṛṣṇa's mercy of dancing on his heads with His lotus feet. And the ācāryas say and so do his wifes that what he had done was... ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #mantrameditation #japajolt #makejapagreatagain #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

There is nothing more direct and personal that we can do than repeat Kṛṣṇa's names. He is completely present, 100%. In fact, Rūpa Goswāmī says the name is better than Kṛṣṇa personally. And therefore, out of all the practices we do, this is the most direct. We have complete, full access to Kṛṣṇa just by his name. So, it's very personal. You can remember that the name and the named—Kṛṣṇa and his name—are non-different, and that it's a very personal process of repeating somebody's name. If you love somebody and you say their name, then you become immediately connected in consciousness. But because Kṛṣṇa is an absolute person, He makes his avatār in his name specifically to lift us up. And Rūpa Goswāmī and all the ācāryas say, "Out of all the practices we do, this is the most important." Feel free to give your whole heart and mind to the process. Nothing else is needed, just this chanting with sincerity. And one other mood is that we're all going through a lot because we're in a human experience, and we're very vulnerable and exposed from all sides. We can use that to our advantage by just admitting to Kṛṣṇa how we're suffering in the material world and how we need a shelter, because no one else can help us, only Kṛṣṇa. Just take exclusive shelter of Kṛṣṇa through his name and chant with your heart. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #japajolt #makejapagreatagain #mantrameditation #chantharekrishnaandbehapy #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

In this episode, I'm excited to be joined by Emily Harrington, one of the most successful and versatile professional climbers in the world. Emily discusses the pressure of failure and perfectionism in motherhood, pregnancy, and postpartum, which are common experiences among mothers. Join us to hear this beautiful conversation about life at the intersection of motherhood and elite athleticism in a largely male-dominated sport. Emily Harrington is a five-time US National Champion, has completed numerous first female ascents of 5.14 routes, summited Mt. Everest, and made a complete ski descent of Cho Oyu, the world's sixth-tallest peak. She made history when she became the first woman to free-climb “Golden Gate on El Capitan in under 24 hours. The movie about Emily's career, Girl Climber, is screening at IMAX theaters and various cinemas through the end of the year. It will be available on JOLT starting on October 15 and will be available for full streaming in November. Emily currently resides in Tahoe City, CA, where she spends her time training, climbing, and skiing with her husband and young son. Show Highlights: Common assumptions about what moms “can/can't” do Emily's journey as a climber, which started at age 10 Thinking about having a baby as a natural part of life The 7-year plan to climb El Capitan—and then have a baby A plan for modified climbing and running as her pregnant body changed Approaching pregnancy from a place of curiosity Feeling unprepared for what came after childbirth Breastfeeding and sleep challenges—and dealing with unsolicited advice Emily's way of dealing with others' judgments and comparisons Parallels between climbing and motherhood Letting go of perfection to find more peace “Enjoying the struggle and embracing failure” Girl Climber: how it tells the story that we all go through failure, and we can show that with honesty and vulnerability Climbing: a sport that is growing in popularity and accessibility What Emily wants other moms to know Resources: Connect with Emily Harrington: Instagram and the screening schedule for Girl Climber Call the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline at 1-833-TLC-MAMA or visitcdph.ca.gov. Sal and BT dove into the Giants' massive home-opening victory over the Chargers, with Sal focusing on the electrifying performance of quarterback Jaxson Dart and the exceptional play of the defense. The win, however, was quickly tempered by the likely devastating ACL injury to wide receiver Malik Nabers, which Sal called an "absolute devastation." Despite the injury, the guys agreed that the infectious energy from Dart and the defense was so great that it couldn't fully overshadow the positive momentum, although BT warned that the loss of Nabers would make the offense look "pedestrian" as the season progresses. The core excitement was the proof that the Giants could finally play with a winning energy and dominant defense.

I was speaking with some of the devotees who noticed the same thing, just by chanting Harē Kṛṣṇa. We associate with Kṛṣṇa. We are in Kṛṣṇa's immediate proximity in a very special way, through the avatār of the holy name. And as the Bhāgavatam says, just by such proximity, we develop all of Kṛṣṇa's qualities. So the most advantageous of all practices is to stay in Kṛṣṇa's proximity. Story at-a-glance Stress is one of the most powerful disruptors of sleep. However, recent research shows it also paradoxically triggers sleep instead of insomnia Acute stress sometimes activates brain circuits that promote non-rapid eye movement (NREM) and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep as recovery This stress-induced sleep is short-lived. With repeated stress, sleep becomes fragmented or suppressed, reflecting patterns seen in stress-related disorders Specific brain regions like the ventral tegmental area orchestrate stress-induced sleep by activating GABAergic neurons that promote sleep while suppressing stress hormones While stress may sometimes trigger sleep, true restorative rest is better achieved through consistent routines like daily exposure to morning sunlight, blocking blue light after sunset, and improving your sleep environment
