I had to drive to an early morning appointment, and here in my area, on the 101 freeway, which is the main thoroughfare, they have put up this system where the fast lane has signs above it that tell how much it's going to cost you to drive in the fast lane, and it's constantly changing according to how much traffic is there. It's become very sophisticated. You can see early in the morning it's practically nothing, and then later it goes up to $5, $17 if you want to drive a few miles in the fast lane. I was just thinking, because I left a little early for my appointment, that it didn't cost that much, and if I had waited a couple more minutes, it would have jumped. And I was thinking how important it is in the human form of life to try to take advantage early. Don't think, "Okay, I'll do the wrong thing and it won't make a difference." Every minute makes a difference if we want to stay in the fast lane, keep making the decisions to take Kṛṣṇa first, deal with Māyā later, and maybe next life, or never at all. I just got off a class with the devotees in Mayāpur. We are taking the Bhakti-vedānta, and we have been reading this morning from the section of the Bhāgavatam: Kṛṣṇa chastises Kāliya. In our discussion, we had been talking about the ways in which Kāliya had received Kṛṣṇa's mercy because he danced on his hoods, but he simultaneously pounded him with his lotus feet. Because of that, he vomited out all the poison that he had, that was because of his unfortunate mentality, which he had become envious of. But somehow or other, his wives had offered prayers when they saw that Kāliya's mood had changed, and he had become a surrendered devotee. We were discussing about this point at which one decides to surrender to Kṛṣṇa. You don't have to wait till the poison is all pounded out of you; you can voluntarily surrender. And having the association of his wives, Jīva Gosvāmī said, who were pure devotees, that's what gave him an opportunity. His wives had thought that he must have done something previously to give him this opportunity to get Kṛṣṇa's mercy of dancing on his heads with His lotus feet. There is nothing more direct and personal that we can do than repeat Kṛṣṇa's names. He is completely present, 100%. In fact, Rūpa Goswāmī says the name is better than Kṛṣṇa personally. And therefore, out of all the practices we do, this is the most direct. We have complete, full access to Kṛṣṇa just by his name. So, it's very personal. You can remember that the name and the named—Kṛṣṇa and his name—are non-different, and that it's a very personal process of repeating somebody's name. If you love somebody and you say their name, then you become immediately connected in consciousness. But because Kṛṣṇa is an absolute person, He makes his avatār in his name specifically to lift us up. And Rūpa Goswāmī and all the ācāryas say, "Out of all the practices we do, this is the most important." Feel free to give your whole heart and mind to the process. Nothing else is needed, just this chanting with sincerity. And one other mood is that we're all going through a lot because we're in a human experience, and we're very vulnerable and exposed from all sides. We can use that to our advantage by just admitting to Kṛṣṇa how we're suffering in the material world and how we need a shelter, because no one else can help us, only Kṛṣṇa. Sal and BT dove into the Giants' massive home-opening victory over the Chargers, with Sal focusing on the electrifying performance of quarterback Jaxson Dart and the exceptional play of the defense. The win, however, was quickly tempered by the likely devastating ACL injury to wide receiver Malik Nabers, which Sal called an "absolute devastation." Despite the injury, the guys agreed that the infectious energy from Dart and the defense was so great that it couldn't fully overshadow the positive momentum, although BT warned that the loss of Nabers would make the offense look "pedestrian" as the season progresses. The core excitement was the proof that the Giants could finally play with a winning energy and dominant defense.

Daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī, mama māyā duratyayā. Mām eva ye prapadyante, māyām etāṁ taranti te. That means that the material world is too complicated; nobody can ever figure it out. Why are you in so much anxiety? Because everyone, from the ant to Lord Brahmā, is. So, there's a resort: it's the holy name. It's the only resort. Don't feel bad about being in anxiety. Everybody's in anxiety because the material world is duratyayā. Don't try to fix it by figuring it out—you can't do it, it's impossible. But if you take shelter of the holy name and just say, "Kṛṣṇa, you're my only resort. I'm just taking shelter of You, please show me the way, and please show me how to figure out this complicated mess I'm in here in the material world." If we can touch that region of absorption and experience, just for one second, then the controlling of senses is not an issue—because it's a higher taste. And it takes a lot of practice, because the mind has been controlling us since time immemorial—not just this lifetime, but previous lifetimes as well. It keeps forcing us to do things. It's like an overlord. Kṛṣṇa tells that to Uddhava in the 11th Canto of the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, that we've been under no other master except for the mind since time immemorial, and it has fearsome, god-like powers over us—as in, practically nobody can do this. We can only do it with the help of Kṛṣṇa. So, the chanting of Kṛṣṇa's names—calling out to Him for help—and the ways that He has extended Himself to us The Holy Name, if we extend back.. Attention, It has the word ten in it. It's the same root as in the word tendon, which comes from Latin tendere, “to stretch.” It means to hold on to something, just like a tendon holds muscle and bone together. So that's our attention: we have to extend ourselves back to Kṛṣṇa. And just from this one process—there is no other process: "harer nāma harer nāma harer nāmaiva kevalam," eva kevalam --nothing else. It's only one thing. So don't think you have to go shopping anywhere else for some other process. That's just another trick of the mind—to say, “This is too hard,” or “I'll go find something easier,” or “There must be something fancier or more rasika.” No—the rasika is in The Holy Name, and the real rasikas are the ones who do the hard work. They try it every day. That's why I called you stalwarts: you show up with your lunch box, and you sit down, and you do your work—and that's sādhana-bhakti. No excuses. No cutting class. You show up for your japa, and you make sure that you extend yourself as much as possible and keep practicing. And at some point, the mind becomes attracted to The Holy Name. It starts to sound sweet. Even before that, in nāmābhāsa, there's this radiation from The Holy Name that is described in the Harināma cintāmaṇi—that is bringing us unlimited benefits and preparing us for continuance in the process of chanting The Holy Names. So, nothing is lost in the process. And then, if we can really try to avoid the offenses—especially being inattentive—don't be lazy. Really try to work at it. Do the heavy lifting that nobody else wants to do. Everyone wants to scroll. "Just let the mind do it and maybe figure it out at the time of death." It won't work. You have to do it now. You have to do it when you're young. And you've gotta get really strong now. Then everything else becomes easy.
