Auto - Rund ums Auto.

The new targets, including sales and operating profit, did not require Apple's leadership to expand the business—the board set goals at the same level or below the prior year's results, citing “trade policy” and an “uncertain macroeconomic outlook.”A broader trend in which boards “protect” CEO pay from external shocks (like tariffs) either by carving out those costs or by quietly lowering performance hurdles in advanceHP is highlighted: its board explicitly excluded tariff costs (net of tariff costs) from both annual and long‑term incentive calculations, which helped CEO Enrique Lores earn roughly two‑thirds of his target bonusAn exclusive analysis of pay data from 50 public companies by Compensation Advisory Partners (CAP) reveals how corporate boards across America use a range of techniques—more-conservative targets, widened performance curves, and flattened payout ranges—to protect CEO compensation from uncertainties like the chaos of President Trump's Liberation Day tariffs in 2025.According to CAP's findings, total pay for CEOs in 2025 rose 8% year-over-year, with annual bonus payouts up 4%.Meanwhile, median financial performance was generally flat to up, with median revenue growing 2.9% and earnings per share down slightly at negative 1.6%.Even among companies with the weakest payouts due to underperformance, CEOs still collected 87% of their target bonuses, up from 77% the year before. The share of companies that landed in the lowest bonus payout tier was down, from 15% in 2024 to 9% in 2025.Now, with the Iran conflict erupting weeks after most companies finalized their 2026 incentive goals—and global stock markets down roughly $3.5 trillion—some market observers expect that boards will soon be holding the same conversations again.Warner Bros. Currituck Beach Lighthouse, photo by Jeremy D’Entremont This is an edited version of an interview that was first heard in August 2021. Our guest is Meghan Agresto, manager of the Currituck Beach Light Station  in Corolla, North Carolina. Currituck Beach Lighthouse—the northernmost of six light stations on the Outer Banks—began service on December 1, 1875.  It was the last of the tall brick lighthouses built on the Outer Banks. The 162-foot-tall tower has an unpainted red brick exterior. After automation in 1937, the site fell into disrepair until the nonprofit Outer Banks Conservationists renovated the station's buildings and opened the site to the public in 1990. Meghan Agresto with Light Hearted host Jeremy D’Entremont Meghan Agresto has been the resident site manager of the Currituck Beach Light Station for more than 20 years. Meghan is the modern day lighthouse keeper, along with her partner, Luis Garcia. They raised two sons in a house on the property. When the boys were young, Corolla had no school of its own, so Meghan started a school for local children.

Want a truck that works hard without the luxury price tag? We take the 2025 Ford F-150 STX SuperCrew 4x4 on real roads to see how its 5.0-liter V8, 10-speed automatic, and direct steering stack up against the high-trim hype. With 12,700 lbs of towing, 1,685 lbs of payload, and a standard 12-inch center screen, this “lower” trim still brings serious muscle and everyday comfort. We break down the maze of trims, cabs, beds, and engines, then map the pricing landscape against Ram 1500, Toyota Tundra, and Chevy Silverado to pinpoint where the value truly lives. From there, we trade spec sheets for scenery with five family-ready spring break road trips. Base out of Flagstaff for a Grand Canyon loop with Sedona red rocks and Route 66 neon, or chase ocean air on California's Pacific Coast Highway with Monterey and Santa Cruz stops. Prefer forests and wildlife? The Great Smoky Mountains deliver waterfall pullouts, easy hikes, and a Cades Cove loop with deer and black bear sightings. Desert dreamers get a cooler-season window into Utah's Mighty Five—Zion, Bryce, and Arches—where short hikes lead to vast views. And if nostalgia calls, string together Route 66 segments for vintage motels, classic diners, and Americana in motion. We also pull back the curtain on parking lot design. Why do angled spaces feel easier? When does perpendicular packing backfire? We explain 30, 45, and 60-degree tradeoffs, one-way flow, door clearance, and ADA considerations so you can pick smarter spots and keep your doors ding-free. Finally, we put the 2026 Mazda 3 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus under the microscope. With 227 hp, 310 lb-ft, upscale materials, and a compact footprint, it's a lively daily driver—though a small trunk opening and fussy infotainment hold it back. We compare it with Civic, Corolla, and Elantra to help you choose the right compact for your roads. If this helped you sort your next truck or plan a better road trip, follow the show, share it with a friend, and drop a quick review—what would you drive first, the F-150 STX or the Mazda 3?Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Big SUVs don't have to drive like buses. We put the 2025 Ford Expedition King Ranch through a real week of miles and came away surprised by the steering precision, quiet ride, and how easily the cabin tech fades into the background so you can actually enjoy the drive. From the panoramic roof and bronze 22-inch wheels to a 24-inch driver display and 13.2-inch touchscreen, this full-size three-row blends comfort with capability, towing up to 9,600 pounds while returning honest, real-world fuel economy. We break down what matters for buyers: how BlueCruise and Co-Pilot360 2.0 help on long stints, how the B&O Unleashed 22-speaker audio fills the cabin, and why the second-row captain's chairs and power-folding third row make life easier for families. Then we talk money and matchups. The Expedition's pricing strategy ranges from a value-forward Active trim to the fully loaded King Ranch tested here, so cross-shopping the Chevy Tahoe, Nissan Armada, and Toyota Sequoia is essential. We explain who wins on base price, where hybrids shift the math, and why the Expedition's driving dynamics could be the tiebreaker.Durability fans get a deep dive into longevity. We outline why Toyota and Lexus dominate 250,000-mile lists, how Honda's practical engineering earns consistent high-mile results, and where Chevrolet proves its mettle with Suburban and Silverado. We also call out the pain points that keep RAM and Jeep from climbing the charts and explore why Tesla's older models struggle in used reliability rankings even as newer ones improve. To round out the enthusiast calendar, we map five standout concours events—from The Amelia and Greenwich to Cincinnati, Pebble Beach, and Ironstone—so you can plan your year around the cars that made history. Finally we look at the 2026 Toyota Corolla Cross, one of those SUVs that just makes sense. It's compact enough for tight parking spots but roomy enough for groceries, road trips, or the daily commute. The hybrid option boosts fuel economy, the ride is smooth and quiet, and the tech is easy to use. It's practical, affordable, and ready for everyday life without drama. If you love smart car shopping, long-haul ownership tips, and a little dream-garage inspiration, you're in the right place. I've started a substack, so a few more people might encounter my spicy takes - I'll still mostly be here. USAID is gone. Direct country aid to low income countries is down 25%. So now's a great time to share five ways I think development charity can be done better in 2026. To state the obvious... none of these ideas will be the best approach all of the time, there's plenty of grey area and nuance. I start a little playful, then get a little more serious. 1. Ditch the Cars Close your eyes and picture the first thing that comes into your head when I say “NGO”. It might be………… a shiny white Landcruiser The view from the front window of my hut But owning cars doesn't usually make economic sense in low income countries. The ‘real' market makes this clear. Business rarely buy cars, instead they use public transport or motorbikes. When companies do own cars, its more Corolla than Landcruiser as well. Cars are often more expensive dollar-for-dollar than in richer countries, fuel cost are high and many NGOs hire drivers, all while public transport is dirt cheap. To move 100km in Uganda [...] ---Outline:(00:43) 1. Ditch the Cars(02:49) 2. Fund Solutions not Projects(07:07) 3. Fund cost effective solutions(08:06) 4. Fund Bimodal - Test and Scale(11:59) 5. Born To Watch - A Movie Podcast

In this week's episode of Born to Watch, the boys dive headfirst into a movie that feels a little too real after the last few years. Our Outbreak 1995 Movie Review isn't just a look back at a blockbuster about a killer virus; it's a full breakdown of a film that somehow became more relevant decades after its release. For Whitey, Gow and Damo, revisiting Wolfgang Petersen's tense, fast-paced viral thriller has stirred up memories of VHS nights, cinema crowds, and that one mate coughing a bit too loudly during COVID. But Outbreak isn't just a virus film. As the boys quickly discover, it's an action romance conspiracy hybrid, depending entirely on which one of them you ask. From the moment Dustin Hoffman strides in as Sam Daniels, the stubborn, brilliant, pigheaded virologist who refuses to let common sense get in the way of his moral compass, the team is hooked. Damo is convinced it's a love story, Gow reckons it's a straight-up action blockbuster, and Whitey is adamant it's a conspiracy movie wrapped in a hazmat suit. One thing they all agree on, though, is that Outbreak pumps along at an absolute clip. Even with the science occasionally held together by duct tape, there's never a dull moment. The boys relive everything from the opening scene in Zaire to the helicopter chase that absolutely no one asked for but everyone secretly loved. The idiocy of certain characters becomes a major talking point. Jimbo, Jim Bob, Hibbo, whoever he is, returns from Africa with a virus, bleeds from multiple orifices, and still wanders around town like he's only got hay fever. His girlfriend passionately kisses him while he looks like he's one hour from the morgue. Then there's the world's worst lab tech, sticking his hand inside a spinning blood machine like he's checking the oil in a 1992 Corolla.Hoffman's performance gets a full deep dive. Gow breaks down his entire career from The Graduate to Rain Man to Wag the Dog. Whitey points out how small Dustin Hoffman really is, particularly when stacked up next to Renee Russo, and how this might be the least believable on-screen couple we've covered since Sharon Stone and anyone. The crew also discuss the real MVP of the movie, the man with the greatest eyebrows in cinema history, Donald Sutherland, delivering pure villainy with the energy of a man who genuinely enjoys ordering towns to be firebombed.Morgan Freeman, as always, earns unanimous praise for bringing gravitas with every line, even when delivering military exposition about viral containment strategies. JT Walsh gets special mention for turning up for one single scene and blowing everyone off the screen with a thundering, no-nonsense speech that still hits hard. From 90s nostalgia to scientific nitpicking, from snorbs reporting chaos to the classic Born to Watch overs-and-unders debate, this episode has everything. The boys even pick their own 1995 sleepers and duds, featuring Clueless, Just Cause, and Get Shorty. And yes, Damo manages to squeeze in a reference to Big Tit Monastery. Of course he does.If you loved Outbreak back in the day, or if watching it post-pandemic makes you question every life decision you've ever made, this is an episode you cannot miss. Send us a textA name with three versions, a yellow Corolla packed with dreams, and a pocket full of maps: that's how Shell left Miami for Queens and built a life equal parts hustle and heart. We go deep into his winding path from singing with his brothers to turning a mall menswear store into a profit machine, from Broadway auditions and Stephen Scott's A-list bands to a chance encounter that opened the door to Cold Blue. Then, in a twist few saw coming, he sat for the Series 7, survived the grind on his fourth try, and lived the Wall Street life by weekday while fronting packed dance floors on weekends—before selling his book, investing in real estate, and re-centering on music. We trade the kind of road stories only working players know: subbing into bands where everyone stares at iPads and nobody calls a cue, count-offs that start fights, and why ten musicians can feel one groove ten different ways. The takeaway for bandleaders is simple and actionable—tighten communication, protect the rhythm section chemistry, and use clicks and cues as tools, not crutches. We also tackle the money: why $120 bar calls for three hours are breaking pros, how hobbyist saturation confuses buyers, and what it takes to restore value with better presentation, stage management, and transparent rate tiers. And yes, we confront the AI wave head-on: fully artificial “artists,” deepfakes that hijack faces and voices, and crowds cheering for screens. There's room for smart tools—sketching keys, generating arrangement ideas—but the final cut should be human. Live music still wins because thousands of tiny, in-the-moment choices create a feeling you can't fake. We saw it after 9/11 when showcases packed out and couples booked weddings in record numbers. When the world tilts, people want the band in the room. If you care about the future of gigs, the craft of performance, and why bass-and-drums chemistry decides the night, you'll feel at home here.If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend, and drop a review with your spiciest take: what should a real band earn in 2025?Support the show

From Elvis to Extreme Metal: A Chat w/ Taylor Danley

Metal YouTuber and fellow Oregonian Taylor Danley shows up with riffs, opinions, and a tube-amp habit that could brown out a neighborhood. We trace the path from Elvis ukulele kid to extreme-metal lifer, then get into the real fight: cranked amps vs. modeling. We make the case for the Boss Tube Amp Expander (turn it up, keep your lease), why an Axe-Fx is the smartest carry-on, and how millimeters of mic placement beat a mile of copy-paste presets. We talk producers who actually make bands sound like bands (Adam D., Will Putney), the charm of leaving one or two “human” wobbles in the take, and why the Boss Katana is still the new-player cheat code. Gear heads get the goodies: Orange OR80, old Marshalls, NS-2 doing unglamorous hero work, the Metal Zone used tastefully (yes, it can be done), and the story behind Taylor's Obsidian Audio boost plus a new preamp on the way. There's record-store nostalgia, kids discovering Sabbath, a Corolla-vs-'69 Camaro tone analogy, and a very Portland pizza detour to land the plane. Good laughs, useful takeaways, zero gatekeeping. (Well, excpet for noisegates.)
