We carry on a light-hearted discussion about the things we learned from Season 3, its changes and challenges, along with introducing a host of new changes for Season 4. Shorter show lengths, more diverse topics, a different broadcast schedule, a new Catechism show, the return of some old favorites from Season 2 and a lot of new personnel will highlight this discussion and introduction into the fourth season of our broadcasts. We hope you enjoy this episode and are as excited as we are to launch into Season 4. In this episode of Trad Controversies, Father Anthony Cekada addresses the "Home Alone" issue. "Home Alone" is a term that was coined by Father Cekada many years ago which describes this position held by a minority of Catholics which use proof texts from Canon Law to denounce Catholic priests currently living their lives as priests - providing sacraments and offering Mass - as doing something illicit and immoral and as such, they should not be approached for reception of the sacraments. As a result, those who hold this position choose to stay home and refuse to assist at Mass or receive sacraments from any validly ordained priest. While in the early days of the traditional Catholic movement, confusion about jurisdiction, the role of a diocese during a worldwide apostasy, and the proper application of epikeia could lead some to this position. In taking a serious look at the documents, Canon Law, and an appeal to basic Catholic sense should help most to overcome all of the objections of the "Home Alone" crowd. Join host Stephen Heiner as he asks Father Anthony Cekada, assistant pastor of St. Gertrude the Great Roman Catholic Church to explore the reasoning of "Home Aloners" and has Father explain why such a position cannot be considered a Catholic one. A new addition to Restoration Radio this season, Trad Controversies tackles controversial and sticky issues that Traditionalists often have to deal with either during or after their recognition that the Novus Ordo Sect is not the Catholic Church. In this introductory "zero" episode, host Stephen Heiner asks His Excellency, Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada why they think "trad controversies" occur in the first place and then go on to deconstruct a particular controversy from the 1990s in which some Catholic faithful were asked to sign a "loyalty oath" as a condition of receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. More than twenty years on, the clergy who were involved with this affair reflect on the matter then and now, and give those honestly searching for answers a template for how to examine other trad controversies that we will deal with this season. We hope everyone is staying safe and trying to make the best of their quarantine. But assuming that you're not trying to necessarily make the best of it, you might as well listen to us then. So here’s a replay of one of our favorite episodes that maybe will cheer you up and help pass the time. *ORIGINAL AIR DATE: JANUARY 9, 2018* ORIGINAL SHOW NOTES: In 1991, cool brah James Cameron and tubular dudette Kathryn Bigelow pulled down their pants and mooned the world when they created the beloved action movie "Point Break," which showed us all that some bank robbers aren't just criminals, but can also be one-with-nature radical surfers who love to skydive. Patrick Swayze plays Bodhi, the philosophical leader of the gang of surfing bank robbers who call themselves The Ex-Presidents. He and his floppy sun-bleached hair don't want to allow society to dictate how they live their lives, so he prefers to rob banks to stick it to the man (aka, so he can just party all the time). Keanu Reeves plays the absurdly-named Johnny Utah, an Ohio-bred, former college star quarterback who has now become an FBI agent, and has been tapped to go undercover as a surfer to infiltrate the suspects. At first Bodhi and his gang don't trust him—because, as we all know, Keanu seems nothing like a surfer—but once they learn he used to be a football star, they immediately accept him into their circle, no questions asked. Gary Busey plays Keanu's grizzled, older partner who came up with the zany theory that the bank robbers might be surfer dudes. Busey is shockingly normal in this role, even though it was after his brain injury, so it's, well, confusing. And Lori Petty plays Tyler, an orphaned surfer who is Swayze's ex-girlfriend and becomes Keanu's love interest. She enjoys shooting guns just inches away from people's heads when she finds out they lied to her, and that's about it. Join us as we jump out of a plane without a parachute, discuss how this movie was remade twice (one was titled "The Fast and the Furious"), and wonder whether or not Tim Tebow is currently an FBI informant. Clerical Conversations returns to begin Season 4 by discussing several topics near and dear to the hearts of Catholics. Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada share their many decades of pastoral experience and discuss the proper Catholic approach/attitude to and proper enjoyment of, in sequence, gambling, alcohol, tobacco, and firearms. What is a Catholic to think about partaking in games of chance, casinos, or upping the ante at a friendly poker game by placing a wager? How do we as Catholics living in the world today look at such things as the consumption of alcohol and just exactly where is the line that must be drawn when enjoying the beverage of one's choice? At what age should children be allowed to start consuming alcohol and what reasoning is given for that answer? Moving on to the great modern "evil" of tobacco, we place our conversation in contrast to today's secular mortal sin of tobacco use. We will talk about the historical relationship the Church had with tobacco use, how we can apply that to our lives today, some of the differences between then and now, and why society at large has turned its back on and its ire towards tobacco. We will examine why it is that our world has demonized cigarettes, cigars, pipes, snuff, and even e-cigarettes! Lastly we will discuss firearms, the proper Catholic understanding of them as a tool for recreation as well as self-defense, and some of the hidden agendas wrapped up in the possession, usage, and symbolism of them in today's culture. How must a Catholic view firearms and what steps must be taken to responsibly own them, all the while not allowing oneself to be swept up in the undercurrent of hidden revolutionary ideas? Join host Nicholas Wansbutter as he discusses these topics with His Lordship, Bishop Daniel Dolan and Father Anthony Cekada of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church in West Chester, Ohio on this month’s episode of Clerical Conversations. Yesterday, Jan 23rd, 2019 was the 9 year anniversary of this show. A little ska mix thingy I started making for... honestly, I don't even know what I was after. A lot of those early episodes are just me sharing some great overlooked songs and bands along with other late '90s "classics." It took a few years to turn into this, what it is now, a weekly modern ska focused podcast. It's been fun, and well, there's enough good ska still coming out that I there's at least a few years left in the concept! Also, since the vote last week was so close between and more ska, or a more ska/punk episode, I decided to give all you ska/punk fans what you were after! 00:00 - Monument Beach - the World doesn't Change (Ska Shack '18) 03:23 - Brainwreck - Pissing People Off (Charlie '18) 06:46 - Talkbats - 반짝이는 / Twinkle Twinkle (the Talkbats 1st Single '18) 10:45 - All Waffle Trick - What a Way to Spend the Night (What a Way to Spend the Night '18) 13:35 - Mad in Ska - Et on ira (Et on ira '18) 18:53 - Clase Media Ska - Ñosco (Clase Media '18) Find & follow the show on: Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/23minofSka/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/23minofSka Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/23minofska/ Stitcher - https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/23min-of-ska?refid=stpr If you'd like to submit your band for a future show email: submissions@23ska.com Any other questions or comments, please email: podcast@23ska.com There's a lot of great ska vinyl out there, so head over to our partners in crime at http://www.GrandpasCasino.com Session : 16 // Episode : 348 // Original Airdate : January 24th, 2019
