Today I start an exciting new monthly conversation with Jennifer Mulak, titled The Feminine Frequency which is a reweaving of the feminine ways of being into ourselves, our relations, and the containers and systems that support life in community. Inspired by our own lived experiences and supported by Dr. Sharon Blackie's work and book, If Women Rose Rooted (amongst other wisdom keepers) we hope to explore the undoing of the patriarchal programming that we are all immersed in. On this inaugural show, we share the inspiration for The Feminine Frequency, how it came into its initial shape, some currently relevant feminine practices including pulling a card from Dr. Blackie's Rooted Woman Tarot Deck, and what we hope to explore together and with you in future shows. During our embodiment practice for this show, Jennifer shares some ways the Spring plants can be supportive to you, and I share a little of the New Moon forecast for this Sunday by way of Tanaaz at Forever Conscious. "This New Moon wants us, as much as possible, to focus our attention on the outcome we are after, rather than the problems we are navigating." This is exactly what The Feminine Frequency is about, what do we want our world to look like as we rebalance the feminine with the masculine, and how do we align with that vision.Today's show was engineered by Ian Seda from Radiokingston.org.Our show music is from Shana Falana!Feel free to email me, say hello: she@iwantwhatshehas.org** Please: SUBSCRIBE to the pod and leave a REVIEW wherever you are listening, it helps other users FIND IThttp://iwantwhatshehas.org/podcastITUNES | SPOTIFYITUNES: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/i-want-what-she-has/id1451648361?mt=2SPOTIFY:https://open.spotify.com/show/77pmJwS2q9vTywz7Uhiyff?si=G2eYCjLjT3KltgdfA6XXCAFollow:INSTAGRAM * https://www.instagram.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast/FACEBOOK * https://www.facebook.com/iwantwhatshehaspodcast

What happens when a beloved sports identity collides with evolving cultural awareness? In this candid conversation with Papamutes, Jack Moore—host of Moore to Consider podcast and lifelong Washington football fan—takes us on a journey through the controversial transition from Redskins to Commanders.Moore offers a fascinating historical perspective on the team's origins, tracing the Redskins name back to 1932 when the franchise began as the Boston Braves before moving to Washington in 1937. He explains how the iconic Indian head logo came to be, designed by Walter "Blackie" Wetzel of the Blackfeet Nation and based on the profile that appeared on the Buffalo nickel. This history provides crucial context for understanding why many fans felt deeply connected to the original identity. The conversation doesn't shy away from the complexities surrounding Native American representation in sports. Moore references polls showing mixed opinions within Native communities, shares stories of students on reservations proudly wearing Redskins gear, and discusses the contrasting example of Florida State's partnership with the Seminole Tribe. These nuances highlight why the debate transcends simple categorizations of right and wrong.Perhaps most compelling is Moore's personal story as a fan who witnessed the team's evolution—from attending the first game at RFK Stadium in 1969 to seeing the stadium filled with opposing fans in recent years. His emotional connection to players like Art Monk, Darrell Green, and Sonny Jurgensen demonstrates how team identities become intertwined with our personal histories and memories.Whether you're a football historian, a Washington fan, or someone interested in the intersection of sports and cultural identity, this episode provides valuable perspective on one of the most significant rebranding stories in professional sports. How do we balance tradition with progress? Who gets to decide when a name becomes unacceptable? A special podcast exclusive deep dive into the recording career of Stephen Fearing! There's a power outage at the radio station this weekend, so no new episode will air on UMFM, however, I had some special plans this week because there are some exciting shows coming up, so I thought I'd put together some exclusive podcast episodes. Seeing Stephen Fearing at my first folk festival in 1993 was a monumental moment for me. I remember being blown away and amazed that I'd never seen him or even heard of him before. I realized that there was a world of great music that I had been missing out on, and it set me off on a path of musical discovery that continues to this day. I also vowed to some day be able to help others discover music like his, and eventually that vehicle became Tell the Band to Go Home. Stephen has been one of the most played artists on the show since the beginning, and I've been attending his shows ever since that first festival. On this special episode, we hear selections from throughout Stephen's solo career, as well as some covers, live performances, and collaborations, including his longstanding supergroup Blackie and the Rodeo Kings. Blackie and the Rodeo Kings are one of the most interesting bands working anywhere today. Sometimes they're in a recording studio time warp with more songs to choose from than Gabriel. Followed by tours and festivals everywhere. Then they disappear The punch line to the tale is, the Blackie guys have their own lives, careers and fan bases. What's most remarkable is, after more than 25 years, they are still a band and friends.   For Example:   Stephen Fearing is releasing his next album on March 13 - The Empathist.  Wildly outstanding music. (We'll be talking again.) Stephen starts his Canadian tour at The Carleton Room in Halifax with two sold-out nights Feb 4-5. Kicks off album release March 13 at Mary Winspear in Sidney, Vancouver Island. Alberta dates March 21 Festival Place Sherwood Park, March 22 River Park Church Calgary.   Colin Linden Colin continues to produce artists at his Pinhead Recorders in Nashville. He's also been touring with T Bone Burnett. He co-wrote and co-produced T Bone's latest album The Other Side.  Next week Colin starts a new album, just in time to hit the road again. Colin begins his own tour - The Ride on Tour - on April 23, hitting Calgary on June 1 and Canmore on June 3. Tom and Terry   Tom Wilson I'll just give you the short version. Re-recording songs,  with son Thompson, from his play Beautiful Scars.  Writing and recording soundtrack music for a number of projects including a film by Tanya Tagaq. Between his flourishing artwork, writing a new book, and starting a new album, Tom also enjoys the glow of an Order of Canada induction.  That's the short version.   Blackie - The Band.   Plans are underway for dates in Canada. Winnipeg Folk Festival, Mariposa Folk Festival, Belmont Festival Edmonton (June 20) They are planning shows in Hamilton, Toronto where cameras will be filming. More events to come.

Episode Summary:In this captivating conversation with mythologist and psychologist Dr. Sharon Blackie, we explore the mythic imagination, the reclaiming of indigenous Western spiritual traditions, and the relevance of our native myths, fairy tales, and folk traditions.Your life is a story, and your story is one small part of a larger cultural story. For good and bad, your individual story is shaped by the larger cultural story of which you are a part. Culture shapes the way we think; it tells us what “makes sense.” In a way, culture is a cult. It holds people together by providing us with a shared set of customs, values, ideas, and beliefs. We live enmeshed in this cultural web: it influences the way we relate to others, the way we look, our tastes, our habits; it enters our dreams and desires. But as culture binds us together it also selectively blinds us. As we grow up, we accept ways of looking at the world, ways of thinking and being that might best be characterized as cultural frames of reference or cultural myths. These myths help us understand our place in the world. But what if these myths are harmful? What if the guiding cultural narratives that shape our lives today in the West are killing us?By questioning the myths that dominate our culture and shape our personal stories, we can begin to resist the limits they impose on our vision of reality. What might it look like to trade in the cultural myths of progress, greed, conquest, and individuality with cultural narratives that encourage reciprocity, relationships, compassion, connectivity, and wonder?Dr. Blackie speaks to those of us who feel lost in a sick, vampiric culture. If you long for a more enchanted life filled with wonder, beauty, and mystery, this episode will encourage you to find meaning through ancient wisdom, Celtic Spirituality, folklore, and indigenous tales of subversive wisdom.Bio:Dr. Sharon Blackie is an award-winning and internationally bestselling author, and a psychologist with a background in mythology and folklore. Her highly acclaimed books, lectures and teaching programs are focused on reimagining women's stories, and on the relevance of myth and fairy tales to the personal, cultural and environmental issues we face today. As well as writing six books of fiction and nonfiction, including the bestselling If Women Rose Rooted, her writing has appeared in anthologies, collections and in several international media outlets – among them the Guardian, the Irish Times, the i and the Scotsman. Her books have been translated into several languages, and she has featured in programs by the BBC, US public radio and independent filmmakers. Her awards include the Society of Authors' Roger Deakin Award, and a Creative Scotland Writer's Award. Her next book, Wise Women: Myths and Stories for Midlife and Beyond will be published by Virago in October 2024.Sharon is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and an Honorary Member of the UK Association of Jungian Analysts, awarded ‘in recognition of the importance of lifetime achievement and contribution to Jungian ideas in the world'. W.A.S.P's debut album came two years after the band was formed. The Los Angeles based band was founded by lead singer, songwriter and bassist, Blackie Lawless. Blackie was a veteran of L.A. scene. Chris Holmes, who later became famous for his appearance in "Decline Of The Western Civilization II: The Metal Years", was the lead guitarist and rhythm guitarist along with Randy Piper. The drummer was Tony Richards. W.A.S.P. had become a target of the Parents Music Resource Center "PMRC" and their lead single "Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)" was taken off their debut album by their label for fear of backlash. The album featured hard rock, metal and shock rock as well. Blackie's trademark vocals and shock themes separated W.A.S.P. from a lot of the other L.A. bands. The band had a couple of videos as well to promote their shock rock image. The album made it to Number 74 on the US Billboard charts and went gold. The album was produced by Blackie Lawless and Mike Varney. As usual the boys breakdown and dissect the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and the album cover against the previous albums reviewed on the Album Review Crew. This was Shout It Out Loudcast's Patreon pick. Sam highlights a crucial point: “If you are a Commanders fan and you want the team to go back to RFK, you need this bill to pass.” After speaking with Ryan Wetzel, Blackie's grandson, Sam shares that while the recognition was a positive step, some of the family's demands remain unmet.

My latest Talkin' Rock with Meltdown guest is none other that Blackie Lawless of W.A.S.P.. It's always a treat when I get to talk with Blackie. He's a great interview, and also the force behind one of my favorite bands of the era. Lots was discussed including his health. After undergoing surgery to ease his back last year, he's on the mean. "But, you know, we had surgery on it about ten months ago, and, you know, I'm on the mend and everything's cool, you know? So, you know, we should be ready for the fall tour coming in, in October." Blackie Lawless On His Special Meet & Greets Blackie's meet and greet is very unique, where the fans get pictures and stuff signed, then he'll do a Q &A session with them. "Well, we looked around at what other VIP packages were doing and quite honestly I didn't get excited about it. I thought, you know, if I'm going to meet somebody that I've always wanted to meet, wouldn't some sort of back and forth, you know, question and answer? I mean, wouldn't that be what you would want to have it be? And for me, that's what I would want. You know, and quite honestly, I didn't, because I've never done these before until we had done that the last time we were in the US a couple of years ago. And I'll be frank with you, I got as much, if not more than the people did out of it because like every other artist, you live in your own bubble and you don't really have a chance to talk to people on a one on one basis without it being in a chaotic situation." He later told me that some of the questions he received jarred some memories that might end up in a future autobiography. Blackie On New W.A.S.P. Music The last time I talked with Blackie, he told me he was working on new music. Where does it stand now? He said the surgery set him back a bit, but he got back into it. "I've had a long time to go through that. Those early demos of what we have been working on it, listening to it with fresh ears. Some of it's really good, but there's not enough of it yet where I would be comfortable in saying, okay, this is finished, and let's go with it. You know, I want to, I'd like to like to go back and visit the drawing board, so to speak, you know, and see what else is there, because even from a two year period of when we started working on that before to where we are right now, you're going to gain so much, you're going to grow so much, you know?" He went on "So you really have to I've learned and you don't make records or I don't make records anymore that are spread out over a 2 or 3-year period. Because the guy you are when you first start making it is not the guy you are when you finish making it, get in, try to, you know, six months top to bottom, get that thing cranked up, you know, because like I said, if you don't, you end up running the risk of it kind of being a schizophrenic type of record. You know, where you've got one type of one thing and then some. The other half is something else, and it has no real cohesiveness" You can see Blackie and the band perform their entire debut album at the Royal Oak Music Theater on November 10th. Gangbusters aired on CBS radio from 1936 to 1957 and was produced by Phillips Lord under the watchful eye of FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Hoover wanted realism while Lord agreed but wanted drama- so the two were often at odds. Listen to Tarzan The Untamed at 1001 Stories For the Road (Our 3rd Tarzan adventure)
