There's a crisis unfolding at the U.S.-Mexico border that's polluting beaches, harming marine life, and putting communities at risk…and it's been happening for decades. In this episode, we chat with Patrick McDonough, an attorney from San Diego Coastkeeper, to break down the transboundary pollution crisis in Tijuana and Imperial Beach.Millions of gallons of untreated sewage and toxic runoff are flowing from Tijuana into Southern California's waterways, closing beaches, threatening public health, and devastating ecosystems. It's a massive, complicated issue, but we're unpacking it in a way that makes sense so you can walk away with a clear understanding of what's going on, why it matters, and what's being done to fix it.We also dive into how Coastkeeper and other organizations are fighting back through litigation, pushing governing bodies to take real action and be held accountable. If you care about clean water, healthy oceans, and the communities that depend on them, this is an issue you need to know about.

Molly talks with Patrick McDonough and R.J. Joseph about their anotholgy, "Hot Iron and Cold Blood: An Anthology of the Weird West". About "Hot Iron and Cold Blood" Desperados and yellow-bellies be warned: These ain' t your typical westerns… Herein find legendary masters of anomalous Western and Horror stories— along with a posse of budding word-slingers— who all bring you an electrifying and frightening collection of extraordinary tales set in the Old West and beyond... Within these pages, the improbable is made real: cowboys encounter a chimeric critter of the night; dinosaurs return as massive poltergeists; Chinese railroad workers are haunted by invisible frights; outlaws experience Cronenbergian body-horror; fallen-light stalks mother and daughter upon a wintry prairie; a headless horseman roams the badlands; otherworldly creatures hunt within our domain; screaming spectral birds nest within the damned; and gunslinging women with murderous skills annihilate foolish notions of a man' s world. These are just a handful of the offerings in this body of macabre lore. So, mount your saddle-horse and join this gang of rogue authors for a ride down dark trails of terror and unsettling thoroughfares that lead deep into strange, nightmarish territory.     ABOUT RJ Joseph Rhonda Jackson Garcia, AKA RJ Joseph, is an award winning, Stoker Award™ nominated, Texas based academic and creative writer/professor whose writing regularly focuses on the intersections of gender and race in the horror and romance genres and popular culture. If there's one thing that keeps professional investors up at night, it's being involved in a “crowded trade.” In other words, a position that's become so popular that there are few investors left to get involved with it, so there's risk of painful losses for all if the crowd heads for the exits. That's part of the appeal of microcap stocks for Patrick McDonough, a portfolio manager at PGIM Quantitative Solutions. He joined the What Goes Up podcast to explain his approach to analyzing these smaller, younger companies whose values are often measured in millions, rather than billions, of dollars. Since many investors are more comfortable with bigger, more-established companies, microcaps offer a unique and overlooked source of growth.“It's something that people have historically avoided,” McDonough says. “Which means it's not crowded. So it's an area we can go in and get a lot of upside.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This week we have another friend of mine Patrick McDonough. I had the pleasure of working side by side with him in the drug and alcohol treatment field. He is another shining example of the success of recovery. The lives that you can help through your own struggles are amazing too. We spoke in depth about his early days of trying to navigate through his youth to then quickly spiraling down that dark path. Then about his journey to a budding career and life as a free man. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
