In Part I of this 2-part series, we introduced several reasons why many Christians believe women should be able to serve as pastors. Our scriptural considerations began with understanding what the “equality in Christ” in our theme text means. We found that it is pointing to an immovable foundation for people of differing ethnicities, different social standings and both genders to stand firmly upon. While Christ does not change our heritage, social standing or gender privileges, he equally welcomes all of us. We also briefly examined the roles of a few prominent Old Testament women. Here we discovered that even though they were wise and chosen prophets of God, that did not open the door for them to be in any way related to the priesthood of Israel. In Part II of our series, we continue examining the question of whether women should serve as pastors or elders by looking closely at New Testament women in ministry by including examples often raised in support of egalitarian views. We explore the lives of Priscilla, Phoebe and Junia—women of remarkable faith and influence—and consider how their contributions fit within the structure God designed for the early church. These women served powerfully and sacrificially, yet Scripture never presents them as holding the governing or teaching offices reserved for elders. Gift vs. office A major theme of this episode is the difference between gifts and offices. God gives spiritual gifts broadly to both men and women, enabling all believers to teach, encourage, counsel and serve. But the New Testament consistently assigns the formal teaching and governing roles of the church to qualified men. This distinction becomes especially important when we look at Pentecost. Peter quotes a prophecy from Joel to show that God's spirit was being poured out on both sons and daughters, but his purpose was to highlight the arrival of miraculous gifts—not to redefine church leadership. Pentecost was a preview of God's power, not a restructuring of the elder role. The Competency Argument We also address the modern argument of competency. Many women today are highly educated, capable leaders in every sphere of society. Scripture never denies their ability. Instead, it provokes us to consider how God arranges His body according to His design, not human preference. The pattern of male eldership is rooted not in culture, but in creation, headship and the consistent teaching of both Paul and Peter. This episode encourages all Christians—men and women—to embrace their God given roles with humility, gratitude and purpose, recognizing that leadership in the body of Christ begins and ends with faithful service. Key Takeaways • New Testament women served powerfully, but none are shown holding the office of elder. • Gifts and offices are different: gifts show ability; offices show responsibility. • Pentecost demonstrated God's power, not a change in church leadership structure. • Competency is not the issue—God's design and order are. • Headship is rooted in creation, not culture. • Every Christian can lead by example, regardless of role.
37% of HR leaders are already saying that evaluating AI skills in candidates is going to be a real challenge. Hiring has always required us to assess things that are hard to measure, but AI is moving so fast that what you're looking for this week might be completely different next month! In this episode, I sat down with Kristin Russum, Director of Organizational Development at TriNet, to get into the real question: how do you actually hire for AI competency when the skill set is still being defined in real time? Alexander Pui is back on the show today for his third appearance. He's been one of the most popular guests over the history of the Finding Nature podcast and I jumped at the opportunity to chat again while he was recently back in Sydney. For those who know Alex they know they're in for the usual standard of excellence regarding all things physical climate risk, the state of activity and effort underway to better understand future scenarios and how the science of climate change is outpacing meaningful efforts to mitigate emissions and their long lasting impacts and risks everywhere. For those newer to the show, Alex has been an important figure in my own career when we worked together at a very large yellow coloured bank in Australia, before he moved to Japan a couple of years ago to take on a lead role in climate risk across Asia Pacific with one of the world's largest professional services organisations.Over the course of his career he's worked in banking, insurance, reinsurance and consulting, he's also an Adjunct Fellow at the University of New South Wales and Visiting Scholar at Kyushu University. For our third time around the Finding Nature microphones we get into a lot of topics and themes that are both updates on previous episodes as well as fresh from both of our insights and work over the last 12 months. From the experience of oppressive heat and new heatwave classification systems in Japan to the impacts of storms, flooding and typhoons across Asia in 2025. We get into the expectations and the science of the emerging super El Niño and what the next period of supercharged climate activity is likely to bring, the quality and value of the recently completed Climate Vulnerability Assessment into the Australian insurance industry, where insurers are and aren't acting, the lessons and practicalities of climate risk management when all the attention is now on box ticking the new Australian climate disclosure legislation, and one of my very favourite topics - competence greenwashing. There's also an insight into a potential climate resilience idea in Japan for the Australian listener right at the very end, so stay tuned for that one and get in contact if it interests you.Support for this episode comes from:Reposit Power - $500 off your solar battery installation. On tonight's show, I'm joined by Kristin Stitt, Managing Partner of North Alabama Swim Schools and SafeSplash Swim Labs in Huntsville and Madison. Most parents believe they know whether their child can swim. Kristin says the bigger question may be whether a child is truly water competent. With a background in healthcare leadership and a passion for drowning prevention, Kristin is helping families understand that swim lessons are only one part of the picture. We'll talk about why parents often overestimate swimming ability, the importance of adaptive aquatics, and why swimming may be one of the most valuable investments a family can make for a child's future. We'll also discuss why Kristin calls swimming “the first and forever sport” and how it can build confidence, discipline, emotional health, and life-saving skills that last far beyond the pool. 5.12.2026 #RolandMartinUnfiltered:SCOTUS Clears Ala. Black District Cut. Racist ‘Cotton-Picking’ Attack on Jeffries. Trump Competency Questions Grow The Supreme Court's conservative majority has cleared the way for Alabama to revert to a congressional map that includes only one majority-Black district, eliminating Congressman Shomari Figures' seat. I'll speak with him about his commitment to fight for his position. In South Carolina, lawmakers are considering a proposed congressional map that would remove a Democratic-leaning seat currently held by Representative Jim Clyburn. Virginia Representative Jen Kiggans, a white Republican, is facing backlash for agreeing with a conservative radio host who urged Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to get his "cotton-picking hands off Virginia." We will also examine the historical reasons the Black unemployment rate has consistently been higher than the overall unemployment rate, even during periods of economic strength. The competency of Donald Trump, the twice-impeached and criminally convicted former president, is being questioned once more. He recently called a Black reporter an offensive name and fell asleep during an Oval Office event. Invest in the Capable Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. The team is often the key indicator of a successful startup. In startup investing, look for competency and experience in the team. Competency and experience can be a relative thing. There's an old saying in the angel world, Invest in the A team working on a B project. The team's skills are more than enough to accomplish the task at hand. For the startup under consideration, understand well the skills required for it to be a success. Look for the skills needed in the business, the technical, and the domain area. Missing key skills is often the cause of startup failure. Most everyone's resume shows extensive experience and knowledge. Test out the team's skills by asking questions and giving them a task. Test to see how they solve problems and how they think. Look for how well they know the space and what is going on in it. The ideal team is one that needs no additional help from the investor. Invest in the capable where possible. For all other startups, be prepared to fill in the gaps. Thank you for joining us for the Startup Funding Espresso where we help startups and investors connect for funding. Sign up for Practi, a new platform that helps law firms use subscription billing. Here are the top 5 takeaways from this episode:* Competency requires using AI tools correctly. Model Rule 1.1 obligates lawyers to be competent in technology they use. Using the wrong tool (e.g., ChatGPT for legal research) isn't just ineffective — it's potentially unethical. Use purpose-built, citation-backed tools like Paxton AI or Perplexity Pro instead.* Billable hours are becoming ethically questionable. Model Rule 1.5 Comment 5 prohibits billing by the hour using “wasteful procedures.” If AI can do 10 hours of work in 10 minutes, continuing to bill by the hour may violate your ethical obligations. The billable hour model is fundamentally at odds with AI-driven efficiency.* Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) is the gold standard. The most reliable AI outputs come from tools that retrieve from a curated database before generating a response. Tools like NotebookLM Pro (upload your own sources) or Paxton AI (legal case law database) minimize hallucinations and provide citable, verifiable answers.* Context is everything. Telling an AI who you are, who you represent, and what you need dramatically improves output quality. Treating AI like a brilliant but new employee — giving it context, iterating, and reviewing its work — is the right mental model for effective use.* The subscription model is the path forward. With 77% of people unable to afford hourly legal fees, there's a trillion-dollar latent legal market. Subscription-based pricing offers predictable revenue, scales without more hiring, reduces burnout, and lets lawyers serve clients who've been priced out of the billable hour system entirely.__________________________Want your question to be answered on a future show? AI is entering residential real estate appraisal faster than most appraisers expected. Many professionals now ask whether using AI violates USPAP. Fear often drives that question, but clarity requires careful thinking. USPAP does not ban tools of any kind. Instead, USPAP governs behavior, judgment, and credibility. Confidentiality remains a real concern. Appraisers must protect private data at all times. Entering sensitive property details into unsecured systems creates risk. Lack of transparency also creates problems. Some AI tools produce answers without showing their reasoning. Appraisers must always explain and support their conclusions. Competency matters as well. USPAP requires appraisers to understand the tools they use. Blind reliance on any system creates exposure. However, not all uses of AI create problems. Many applications simply improve writing, organization, and clarity. Those uses resemble spellcheck or templates and carry minimal risk. The key issue is judgment. Appraisers may use tools, but they cannot outsource decision-making. Value conclusions must always come from the appraiser's own reasoning. Responsibility never shifts to software or automation. Every signed report still reflects the appraiser's professional opinion. Think about a courtroom setting. An attorney may ask how AI influenced the report. Clear, confident answers protect credibility. Weak or uncertain answers create serious problems. Verification and understanding become essential safeguards. Smart appraisers follow three rules. Protect confidential information carefully. Verify every AI-assisted output thoroughly. Disclose meaningful use when appropriate. These steps maintain credibility and compliance. AI is not the violation. Surrendering professional judgment creates the real danger. Appraisers who stay in control will adapt successfully. Those who do not risk losing both credibility and trust.

Every PM is scrambling to learn AI tools - but is that a trap? In this episode of Arguing Agile, hosts Brian Orlando and Om Patel summarize Shreyas Doshi's provocative article "Why Product Sense Is the Only Product Skill That Will Matter in the AI Age." Using the article as background for our discussion, we explore whether AI tools like Claude, Cursor, and NotebookLM are genuine superpowers for product managers or just the new baseline that everyone will have access to.https://shreyasdoshi.substack.com/p/why-product-sense-is-the-only-productWe've structured this episode around several key debates, including:

In this kickoff episode of Translating the ICU, Kali and Stephen explore why physical therapists and occupational therapists are often rotating generalists in the ICU rather than dedicated specialists, and what needs to change to elevate rehab's impact on critically ill patients.Key Topics CoveredIntroducing "Translating the ICU" — a new podcast series focused on physiology, pathophysiology, and critical thinking applied to real and theoretical ICU case studiesCSM 2024 recap — Stephen's talks on redefining PT's role in the ICU and point-of-care ultrasound; Kali's panel on what early mobility should actually look likeThe case for dedicated ICU rehab staffing — why rotating therapists undermine momentum, relationships, and patient outcomesPT/OT education gaps in critical care — invasive hemodynamics, pharmacology, diagnostic imaging, and ventilator management are largely absent from trainingCompetency vs. potential — why redefining practice standards matters more than questioning individual intelligence or capabilityMobility as a physiology test — Steven's framework for PT as "physiology tester," using mobilization to generate clinical data and drive medical decision-makingJohnson 2019 data — dedicated CVICU PT/OT staffing increased from 2 to 4 clinicians → ICU length of stay decreased by 3.6 daysThe 2025 meta-analysis (60+ RCTs, ~8,500 patients) — timing matters more than intensity in early mobilityVentilator management and SBTs — why PTs need to understand spontaneous breathing trials and provide physiologic feedback before extubation decisionsBuilding trust on the ICU team — demonstrating competency through relationships, not just credentialsBarriers facing revolutionists — fear of mistakes, leadership pressure, staffing rotations, and how to push forward anywayResources & People Mentioned- Steven Ramsey — @ThePOCUSPT | The Ramsey Protocol | ELSO GuidelinesKali Dayton — DaytonICUConsulting.comChristina Perme's ICU Rehab CourseHeidi Engel & Jenna HightowerJohnson 2019 CVICU staffing study2025 early mobility meta-analysis (60+ RCTs)Connect & Work With UsConsult with Kali on transforming your ICU's sedation and mobility practices → DaytonICUConsulting.comCoaching with Stephen Ramsey — one-on-one or team sessions for ICU rehab staff → www.DaytonICUConsulting.com and @ThepocusPTOnline courses — coming soon from both Kali and StephenCritical care ultrasound course for ICU clinicians — available now at ThePocusPT.comFollow Kali on Instagram for open discussion, anonymous Q&A, and cross-disciplinary ICU conversations.
AI transformation isn't just a tech upgrade—it's a human one. In this episode, Eric Porres (Chief AI Officer at Logitech) pulls back the curtain on what year two of an enterprise-wide AI transformation actually looks like. From shifting mindsets to scaling real adoption, this conversation gets into the messy middle: where curiosity turns into capability, and experimentation starts becoming systems. What stands out is how much of this journey has nothing to do with picking the “right” model—and everything to do with behavior change. Eric shares how Logitech moved from AI curiosity to AI competency, what it takes to build a culture of creators (not just users), and why thinking of AI as a teammate—not a tool—changes everything.Resources from this episode:Join the Digital Project Manager CommunitySubscribe to the newsletter to get our latest articles and podcastsConnect with Eric on LinkedIn and SubstackCheck out Logitech

In this insightful interview, Shayna Davis, CEO of Executive Signals, shares expert advice on how tech leaders can enhance their external communication, build trust, and establish credibility in a competitive landscape. Discover practical strategies for leadership branding, content creation, and navigating reputation management to drive business success. In today's rapidly evolving tech landscape, leadership is no longer confined to building great products or managing internal teams. As highlighted in the conversation with Shayna Davis, tech leaders are increasingly expected to step outside their organizations and represent their companies to a broader audience. This shift has exposed a critical “competency gap” — the difference between technical expertise and the ability to communicate effectively with external stakeholders.

In this episode, host Don Adeesha joins Mary Ford, co-founder of Smiley Aesthetics and Allergan Medical Institute faculty trainer , to tackle the practice owner's fear of the dilution effect when scaling. Mary argues that hands-on needle skills are rarely the main issue for new hires; instead, the true competency gap lies in a lack of deep knowledge regarding facial anatomy and product rheology. Mary breaks down the operational stress tests required before signing a lease for a second location , emphasizing that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) must be repeatable, efficient, and tied to measurable KPIs. She highlights the importance of letting go of micromanaging exact injection styles and details how cultivating a consistently "warm" patient experience can build lifelong loyalty and even supersede less-than-ideal outcomes. Finally, Mary warns against the dangers of adopting clinical myths from viral social media posts , urging providers to use critical thinking and research to evaluate treatments. She shares how her clinics leverage AI and automation for administrative tasks so staff can focus purely on patient care , and challenges all practice owners to constantly ask the ultimate "why" behind their operational and clinical decisions.
What if the greatest barrier to kingdom collaboration isn't theology—but ego? In this episode, we sit down with leaders from GACX (Global Alliance for Church Multiplication) to explore a radically different vision of partnership—one that doesn't begin with “what do I gain?” but with “what can I give?” From global church planting networks to theological education, we wrestle with a provocative idea: real collaboration may require us not just to win—but to lose. In this winsome study, Ephesiology offers readers a comprehensive view of the empowering work of the Holy Spirit in the most significant city of the New Testament, and compels us to ask the question: how can we effectively connect Christ to our culture? “Masterfully handling the book of Ephesians and using its content as a definitive guide, Michael Cooper lays a theologically strong foundation that is both corrective and directive to disciple making movements. The principles he gleans from the book of Ephesians and related texts, help to ensure the on-going multiplication and maturation of a movement. In this final episode of the attachment series, Christa sits down with another Enneagram expert, Jeff Cook, Enneagram Type 1, philosopher, former pastor, and co-host of the popular Around the Circle Enneagram podcast, as we talk about attachment and how couples can process conflict. We also talk about his new book Around the Circle: An Enneagram Book (June 2025). Unlike most Enneagram books that profile types individually, Jeff's book explores nine essential questions everyone faces (like "How do I solve my problems?") and answers them for all nine types, creating a richer, more nuanced understanding. Jeff brings a Christian philosophical lens to the Enneagram, reminding us of the fact that relationships are all we bring with us into eternity, so it's important to grow here as an individual, and we try to answer what it means to be our healthiest selves. They discuss the power of naming our motives, why the Enneagram isn't about "putting people in boxes," the Harmonic groups (Positive Outlook: 2, 7, 9 who reframe; Competency: 1, 3, 5 who problem-solve; Reactive: 4, 6, 8 who intensify emotions). Whether you're new to the Enneagram or a seasoned student, this conversation will deepen your understanding and help you see yourself and your spouse more clearly. Watch on YouTube! Hiring should be about finding the right person. Too often, though, the tools and methods organizations use actually work against them. Job postings filter candidates out for lacking skills they could easily and quickly learn. Competency checklists based on someone else's philosophy of what leadership looks like rather than what actually works inside their organization. Assessment tools that aren't scientifically validated or that screen for average profiles when the role needs something entirely different. The funnel narrows before employers even realize it. And when a poor fit does get through, the individual can spend months or years struggling against expectations that were never clearly defined. So how should organizations rethink the way they assess and select talent? My guest this week is Dr. Stephanie Puckett, founder of SynergyMind Consulting. In our conversation, she draws on 20 years of experience in organizational psychology to reveal where hiring processes quietly break down and the implications for both employers and employees when they do. In the interview, we discuss: The most common mistakes employers make in hiring Unintentional restriction of talent pools Skill and competency transfer The danger of using tools with no scientific validation The critical role of talent acquisition teams Data science versus psychology Finding confirmation bias in big datasets The importance of realistic job previews How will hiring develop in the next 2 to 3 years Follow this podcast on Apple Podcasts. “I do not believe that nonprofits live in a separate world. I believe that they live in the same world [as every other brand].” –Jim MoriartyNonprofits aren't operating in a separate marketplace than for-profits. They're competing for the same attention, trust, and loyalty as every other brand.Jim Moriarty, brand strategist and former CEO of the Surfrider Foundation, believes this is the case—positing that both sectors are after the same consumer attention, and that both are doing real good in the world. With vast experience in both sectors, Jim thinks nonprofits can learn a thing or two from for-profit brands about evaluating performance, building trust, and clarifying your mission. In this episode, Jim shares:Why the lines are blurry between for-profits and nonprofits for consumersWhy Nike's mission to make sports accessible to all is actually a core part of their modelWhat nonprofits can learn from brands about building consumer trust and competency in delivering on their promiseHow a clear narrative, real-world activation, and constant feedback can accelerate momentumFind links to resources mentioned and key takeaways in the show notes for this episode: https://www.futurenonprofit.com/jim-moriarty/
Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
Nick Reiner appeared at his first hearing in a suicide prevention smock. He wasn't medically cleared to be transported initially. Reports say his medications still aren't stabilized. There's a sealed medical order from the judge that reportedly relates to his mental health treatment. At what point does this shift from "defendant has mental health issues" to a formal competency challenge? Attorney Eric Faddis explains what that process actually looks like in California — and what the sealed order might accomplish for the defense.Alan Jackson withdrew from the case under circumstances he's "legally and ethically prohibited" from explaining. But he didn't leave quietly. On the courthouse steps, he declared Nick Reiner "not guilty of murder" under California law. That's not a legal ruling — it's a preview of the insanity defense he was building before he walked away.Jackson's team issued ten subpoenas during their investigation. The judge sealed that list from prosecutors. Eric breaks down what kind of witnesses and records a defense building toward insanity would be subpoenaing — and why keeping that list sealed matters. Then there's the gas station surveillance video showing Nick calmly buying a drink hours after the murders. Legal experts say that footage "cuts both ways." Eric walks through how prosecution uses it versus how the defense might reframe it.Nick is charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances. DA Nathan Hochman hasn't ruled out the death penalty, though surviving siblings have reportedly signaled they're not in favor. Eric examines how much victim family input actually influences that decision — and what factors typically push a DA toward death versus life without parole in a parricide case.#NickReiner #EricFaddis #RobReiner #MicheleReiner #AlanJackson #InsanityDefense #Competency #HiddenKillers #TrueCrime #ReinerCaseJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Mark and Gary are joined by guest host Teny Geragos for a deep dive into one of the most complex and misunderstood areas of criminal law. Using the Nick Reiner case as a lens, the panel unpacks why arraignments are delayed, how competency evaluations and insanity pleas actually work, and what lawyers must consider when mental illness is front and center. The conversation also explores who pays for elite defense counsel in family tragedies, the real-world impact of media narratives, and recent developments in high-profile cases involving Sean “Diddy” Combs and Luigi Mangione.Watch Beyond A Reasonable Doubt and all Reasonable Doubt video content on YouTube exclusively at YouTube.com/ReasonableDoubtPodcast and subscribe while you're thereSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
