On June 12, 2016, a man opened fire in Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, FL. The mass shooting resulted in 49 deaths and 53 injured, including Angel Colon. By the grace of God, Angel survived but was shot multiple times and suffered a shattered femur. Despite his wounds, he was determined not to let this shooting discourage him. Growing up in a strong Christian home he knew the Lord was the source of his strength. What started as his "mess” has now become his message. We know today's episode will leave you encouraged and filled with hope that Jesus is chasing down hearts even when we can't see it!   Connect with Angel Instagram:  @_angel_colon @fearlessidentity -------------------------------- Find out more about the #dontmesswithourkids movement by visiting www.dontmesswithourkids.us Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @dontmesswithourkids

Director Maris Curran's feature documentary, Jeannette, is a striking and intimate vérité, this portrait of competitive bodybuilder and queer single mother Jeannette Feliciano. The story unfolds as a nuanced story of balancing the relentlessness of daily existence with the realities of living through trauma. In the wake of Orlando's Pulse Nightclub shooting, Jeannette continues to coach other survivors at the gym while raising her son. Life seems calm again, until Hurricane Maria hits Puerto Rico and Jeannette is thrown back into crisis mode. Skirting headlines to instead focus on the tenderness of healing, Maris Curran (Five Nights in Maine) delivers her feature documentary debut with the World Premiere of JEANNETTE. Director Maris Curran and the subject Jeannette Feliciano joins us for a conversation on the process of becoming comfortable with each other as Jeannette facilitates Maris's camera and crew into every aspect of her life why it was important for both of them to give the horrifying reality of the Pulse Club mass shooting the appropriate perspective in the sweep of Jeanette's complex and rewarding life. A Topical Solution for the Political Revolution I want to hear from you so if you like what you hear, or if you don’t, email me at Polyrical@gmail.com, Follow on twitter @polyrical and check out the website Polyrical.com * Woman's Work | Tracy Chapman : Matters Of The Heart Political musicians have their fans and their critics and sometimes they are one in the same. Here are four songs about political songs for the fans and the critics. * Political Song | Randy Kaplan : Fast Folk Musical Magazine (Vol. 7, No. 8) * A Different Kind Of Love Song | Dick Gaughan : A Different Kind Of Love Song * Sing About Love | Chumbawamba : The Boy Bands Have Won * Sing A Song To Please Us | Leon Rosselson : The World Turned Upside Down: Rosselsongs 1960-2010 Bio The last time David Rovics had a real job was when he was a part-time barista at a Starbucks in 1995. After having too many thoughts about killing all the white men in suits who never tipped that entered his workplace (which were most of the clientele), he quit that job quick. Since then he has been subsisting as a musician, playing in the streets and subways of Boston at first, and by the late 1990’s, touring internationally as a DIY protest singer. Except that he hates the term “protest singer.” But that’s how the mainstream media would dismissively define him and his ilk, anyway, so there you go. If you’re using this bio to introduce David at a gig, you can be merciful to your audience and stop there. The music will be better than reading this narcissistic crap. But if you want all the gory details, keep reading (preferably to yourself). David Rovics is the best Topical Songwriter, bar none. If you disagree, please tell me who is better, seriously, if there is someone better I want to be listening to them. Rovics takes the details of an event or a movement and paints a picture that tells a story and puts that into context, socially, economically, politically. * Eat the Rich | David Rovics : All the News That's Fit to Sing * Welcome to the Working Class | David Rovics : All the News That's Fit to Sing People don’t buy physical recordings much anymore, and most people rarely pay to download anything.  Mostly people get their music via streaming services these days — which is great for exposure, but terrible in terms of paying artists anything meaningful. This situation has created a crisis for artists, many of whom have been unable to continue recording, touring, etc.  Those of us who still manage to make ends meet are either getting millions of streams on a monthly basis (pop stars and some others) or we have successfully adopted the paid subscription model of survival, in the tradition of community radio stations and small farmers throughout the US and elsewhere. So in a nutshell, you sign up through one of the “Subscribe” buttons below to be billed annually or monthly via PayPal, and you become a member of my CSA of one sort or another.  What you get in return is my undying gratitude, plus the other rewards described below… http://www.davidrovics.com/subscribe/ David Rovics just released his latest album Punk Baroque, which includes songs about The Pulse Club mass murder in Orlando, Gentrification, Bombing, Refugees and Standing Rock. Listen to it, buy it on Band Camp. * Minimum Wage Strike | David Rovics : Behind The Barricades - The Best Of David Rovics * I Can't Breathe | David Rovics : The Other Side * Dream Team | Michael Franti & Spearhead : Home * i wanna change it | Otis Gibbs : one day our whispers

This week the world was horrified to see the shooting at Pulse Club in Orlando, Florida and the deaths of 49 LGBT individuals. Often we are faced with the horror of the "deaths" in our personal lives - such as the deaths of relationships, of dreams and of our finances. Then we celebrate the "heroes." Whether it be the person who bandaged up and saved a shooting victim or our triumph that resulted in a promotion, a vacation or buying new shoes. Yet A Course in Miracles teaches that no matter what the situation, no matter what we think we know, our response is to be the same. We are to show Love in all circumstances and not give up our peace. In this video, Rev. Kelly shares how we can look at the situations around us and live according to our Heavenly Father's guidance - to be the Love we want to see in the world! 21 min.

Seems like things are just...different now. Starting with the shocking murder of YouTube star and "The Voice" finalist Christina Grimmie, this weekend has changed my view of the world and my place in it. Ms. Grimmie's death was followed by the slaughter of 50 people by someone who was either told by his religion, or more specifically, told by certain people who have perverted his religion, that gay people needed to die.The world became a bit scarier this weekend. Not a fan of that. My thoughts and prayers go to Christina Grimmie and her family and to the victims of the nightclub shooting and their families. I did my best to push some light and fun into our world this weekend. Not sure I was entirely successful. I hope I was, just a little bit.As promised, here's the link to the only official Go Fund Me page for Christina Grimmie's family. https://www.gofundme.com/christinagrimmieTo be honest, I realize that I mis-identified who started the Go Fund Me campaign. I said in the episode it was Selena Gomez's stepfather. Well, that IS true. But his name is not Laura Worley. His name is actually Brian Teefey. Sorry about that Brian. Thank you for doing what you've done for Christina's family. Over $100,000 as I type this. There is also a Go Fund Me set up to help the victims of the Pulse Club shooting, and their families. https://www.gofundme.com/PulseVictimsFundOver a million dollars raised there. Way to go, people, to make sure the terrorists don't win. Please keep in touch.Email:thevoiceofsteve@yahoo.comFacebook:facebook.com/voiceofsteveTwitter:@TheVOSShowWebsite:www.thevoiceofsteve.com
