John Worne, CEO of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (CIOL), joins SlatorPod to discuss CIOL's mission to support and promote language professionals and the value of languages for the public good through professional standards, advocacy, and intercultural understanding.John highlights the challenges of applying AI in high-stakes contexts like court interpreting. He references the UK House of Lords inquiry into language services in the legal system, which emphasized the risks of AI, particularly for low-resource languages and nuanced human communication. He warns that casual, unsupervised AI use in public services risks serious harm without proper oversight. The CEO describes the industry's current AI experience as mixed. While late 2024 saw falling workloads and experimentation by clients with generative AI, early 2025 brought a more stable picture, with some freelancers regaining lost business. Still, the community remains divided: about half of CIOL's members embrace AI tools, while the rest resist them, concerned about quality and trust.John raises questions about AI's influence on how we use and shape language. He notes how generative AI introduces patterns into the linguistic mainstream, creating an "AI-mediated average" that may dilute cultural identity. He argues that language is a “human meta skill”, encoding not only communication but identity, culture, and belonging. Looking ahead, John is cautiously optimistic for the next generation of linguists, as digital natives may be more adept at using AI creatively and multitasking across tools. CIOL plans to expand free resources and community engagement in 2025, ensuring that the future of language work remains inclusive, ethical, and informed by real human insight.

Change Makers: Leadership, Good Business, Ideas and Innovation
As the world marks another International Women's Day, we're still asking the same question: why aren't there more women in politics? In 2024, nearly half the world's population held elections, yet we saw the slowest rate of growth in female representation in two decades. What's holding us back? In this episode of Change Makers, Edie Lush speaks to two powerhouse politicians from opposite sides of the Atlantic: U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan, a Democrat and the first woman to represent Pennsylvania's 6th District in Congress, and Baroness Sandip Verma, a Conservative peer in the UK House of Lords and former chair of the UN Women's national committee for UK. From breaking barriers in male-dominated spaces to tackling issues like gender bias, childcare, and online harassment, these two leaders share their insights on what it takes for women to rise in politics - and how we can create more opportunities for the next generation. It's a conversation about leadership, resilience, and why progress for women is progress for everyone.

Alfredo Cramerotti and Auronda Scalera are a curatorial duo specialising in art and technology, dedicated to bridging digital and contemporary art.We either speak over-enthusiastically about AI or in fear of its impact on creativity. My guests stand somewhat in between, advocating for a better understanding of its potential as a tool which they base upon their experiences with artists. The latter have always been irreverent regarding technologies since pigment was blown onto a hand leaving its mysterious mark on a cave wall… So what happens now, with the metaverse, AI and virtual reality? Are these new exhibition spaces? And how to they affect the existing ones? Our discussion took us to lots of places, amongst which the installation created by artist duo Holly Herndon and Mat Dryhurst, THE CALL for the Serpentine, which enabled spectators to interact with an AI who had trained with choirs across the UK; we talk about artists who connect writing with sculpture, performance, and new technologies, such as Ana María Caballero, (who just sold a poem in an online auction of Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions called Natively Digital, for 0.28 Bitcoin or $11,430 at Sotheby's), and much more. I also mention the great Jan Hopkins, an artist and writer based in Sheffield.Cramerotti and Scalera both teach at MA IESA University Paris & Kingston University London. They co-curated the Lumen Prize x Sotheby's plus this year and the Art Dubai Digital Section 2024. As a duo, they form the International Selection Committee of the Lumen Prize and work as nominators for the Maxxi-Bvlgari Prize for Digital Art. While co-directing Multiplicity-Art in Digital, an online platform promoting women artists with a focus on diversity and inclusion, they spearhead Web to Verse, a project dedicated to fostering research on the evolution of digital art from the 1960s to the present day. This multifaceted profile has led them to speak at prestigious events such as the UK House of Lords' All-Party Parliamentary Group, the House of Beautiful Business, the AI House (during the World Economic Forum), the Riyadh Art Program for the KSA Visual Art Commission. They have worked with the UK Government Art Collection, the British Council Visual Arts Acquisition Committee, the Italian Ministry of Culture for the Italian Council 2022-24 program, and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.Support Exhibitionistas:HOW CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE? Welcome to the podcast that's now called Investology. This new name reflects the changes that I felet were needed for 2025 onwards. A new year that feels like a new era in the investment world based on the news this January probably not the era we want, but we can learn to adapt and thrive. Many investment podcasts, that talk about macro, micro or predictions. This is not one of them. Here we think about investment management and what goes on behind the curtain of financial markets. With my guests, we will talk about tech and innovation but also the history, the narratives, the principles. And there's no better guest to start this year with than Alex Edmans, a professor of finance author and expert in how we use and misuse data and evidence. We discuss his excellent book May contain lies in the previous episode. Alex is also a sustainability specialist and author of grow the pie How Great Companies Deliver Both Purpose and Profit and also wrote a recent paper called The End of ESG and they will be the subject of this conversation that helped me think about sustainable investind and I hope it helps you too. I wish you a great year in your personal, professional and your invetsing life! ABSTRACT from The End of ESG by Alex Edmans ESG is both extremely important and nothing special. It's extremely important because it's critical to long-term value, and so any academic or practitioner should take it seriously, not just those with “ESG” in their research interests or job title. Thus, ESG doesn't need a specialized term, as that implies it's niche – considering long-term factors isn't ESG investing; it's investing. It's nothing special since it's no better or worse than other intangible assets that create long-term financial and social returns, such as management quality, corporate culture, and innovative capability. Companies shouldn't be praised more for improving their ESG performance than these other intangibles; investor engagement on ESG factors shouldn't be put on a pedestal compared to engagement on other value drivers. We want great companies, not just companies that are great at ESG. ABOUT ALEX EDMANS Alex's website: https://alexedmans.com/ Alex Edmans is Professor of Finance at London Business School. His TED talk ‘What to Trust in a Post-Truth World' has been viewed 2 million times and he has spoken at Davos and in the UK House of Commons. Meanwhile, Esther shares how EzDubs, a speech translation startup, secured USD 4.2m in seed funding.Florian notes that RWS reported stable revenues for 2024, with GBP 180m coming from AI-driven products and services. He also highlights YouTube's AI dubbing rollout, unlocking new possibilities for multilingual content, though noting current limitations, like robotic voice quality. The trio discusses the UK House of Lords inquiry into court interpreting and translation, which raised concerns about interpreter pay, quality issues, and AI's role in quality assurance. Reflecting on 2024, Anna outlines three major trends: speech-to-speech translation, “translation as a feature,” where translation capabilities are integrated into everyday software like project management tools, and the evolution of localization roles toward AI-driven skills. Looking ahead, Anna predicts rapid AI adoption in the public sector due to cost constraints and scalability needs, while Florian anticipates further breakthroughs in machine translation quality estimation and potential IPOs in the language tech sector. Esther forecasts increased M&A activity as niche providers seek stability and scalability in a competitive environment.

Chris Martenson, Ph.D., MBA is an economic researcher and futurist, and founder of PeakProsperity.com. His COVID video series garnered more than 40 million views and has helped millions better understand, adapt, and prepare for the Pandemic of 2020. In addition to analysis and commentary, he writes for PeakProsperity.com, shares his insights on his social media and traditional media, and makes contributions to academic, civic, and private organizations around the world (the UN, the UK House of Commons, and U.S. State Legislatures). This conversation starts with Chris detailing his experience with Bret Weinstein at migrant camps in Darién Province, Panama. One camp was filled with Chinese nationals, mostly military-age men. Chris details the arduous and often gruesome journey migrants take from Ecuador (a visa isn't required) to the US border. Interestingly, Chris reveals that migrants from around the world find out about the US's open border through social media, and they are often aided in their journey by organizations such as the UN, the Red Cross, and various Catholic charities. In the second half of the conversation, Chris and Peter talk about the hypocrisy of Western governments by allowing illegal immigration to flourish and the cognitive dissonance progressives experience when voting for such policies. Finally, Chris and Peter illustrate how this crisis, amongst others, has led to major distrust in governmental institutions. The conversation ends on a hopeful note.Peak Prosperity on YouTubeChris's BooksWatch this episode on YouTube.

God knows everything whispered in secret, and one day those things will be shouted from the rooftops. The people who run Biden, Tony Fauci being one of them, were whispering in the dark about the deaths and injuries from the mRNA injections. They knew. It's obvious how these injections were designed, that they would kill people. God knows their motives and 17 million people are most likely dead and will keep dying from these injections. We examine the state of things as we look at Britain, where a politician presents his concerns on the increased deaths following the pandemic to a 98% empty House of Commons. And in New Zealand, Liz Gunn spoke with a whistleblower about the deaths they are seeing as a consequence of the injections and how those in charge also knew about the adverse effects.
