In the wake of the Bondi Beach terror attack over the weekend, the Albanese government is fast-tracking a suite of legislative reforms aimed at cracking down on hate speech and tightening migration laws to avert individuals with extremist views. While the government faces pressure to introduce harsher border policies, it has rejected calls for a Royal Commission, arguing that immediate executive action and enforcement are more urgent than a lengthy public inquiry.

Last weekend was filled with terrible news, including a mass shooting in Australia, another at Brown University, and the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife. Mike Erre joins Phil and Skye to discuss these events and why rediscovering the biblical practice of lament is better than just "thoughts and prayers." The Catholic Church has taken a nuanced and principled position on the deportation of immigrants. Why do evangelicals find that so difficult? Then John Ortberg talks with Skye about his latest book, which applies the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to Christian spiritual formation. It's called "Steps: A guide to transforming your life when willpower isn't enough." Also this week, the U.K. is building a giant Möbius strip for God. While the mainstream news media will continue portraying the recent mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia as an antisemitic terror attack, a much more likely conclusion is that this was a "false flag" act of terrorism conducted by supporters of Zionism to rally support for their cause and mute criticism of Israel's genocide in Gaza. Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger note that media narratives quickly blamed Muslims, ISIS, and Iran while dismissing alternative explanations. Jimmy cites past incidents in Australia and the United States involving hoax threats allegedly traced to Israeli individuals, and highlights reporting that Australian police previously investigated paid actors carrying out antisemitic crimes. Plus segments on Erika Kirk panicking and flying to Nashville to meet with Candace Owens, the U.S.-driven border clash between Thailand and Cambodia and the real reason the Tyler Robinson footage is being suppressed. Also featuring Candace Owens, Mike MacRae and Stef Zamorano. And a phone call from George Clooney!

Australians are in shock after two gunmen opened fire at Bondi Beach in Sydney, killing at least 15 people. CBS News reports that the suspects are a father and son. Talks over ending the war between Russia and Ukraine accelerated over the weekend. The Wall Street Journal’s Laurence Norman details why big differences remain for both sides. Authorities in Rhode Island are still searching for a suspect in the deadly mass shooting on the campus of Brown University. The Washington Post reports that the initial person of interest has been released. Plus, more rain is on the way as Washington state battles severe flooding, the surprising return of a 44-year-old NFL quarterback, and legendary actor Dick Van Dyke’s message on his 100th birthday. Today’s episode was hosted by Gideon Resnick.
Today's Headlines: This weekend saw two devastating mass shootings just hours apart. At Brown University in Rhode Island, a 24-year-old gunman killed two students and wounded nine others inside an academic building, prompting a five-hour campus lockdown before he was arrested at a hotel south of Providence. Several of the victims had previously survived other school shootings. In Australia, a father and son opened fire on a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, killing 15 people and injuring 40. One victim, a Holocaust survivor, died while shielding his wife. Authorities called it a terrorist attack and recovered explosives nearby. In other news, two U.S. troops and a civilian interpreter were killed in Syria after an attacker—who had recently joined local security forces—opened fire. The incident is being treated as a major security failure, and Trump vowed retaliation against ISIS. Meanwhile, Chile elected its most right-wing president in decades, José Antonio Kast, while Ukraine peace talks continue. President Zelensky signaled he may forgo NATO membership in exchange for U.S. security guarantees, even as the U.S. reportedly plans to scale back European defense commitments and Republicans float leaving NATO altogether. Back in the US, House Democrats released dozens of photos from Jeffrey Epstein's estate showing him with powerful figures across politics and business, with tens of thousands more images still under review. The New York Times also reported that Andrew Tate cultivated ties to Trump-world figures to help escape prosecution abroad—after which new assault allegations quickly followed. And finally, Dr. Oz has been emailing federal health workers unsolicited advice on resisting office snacks, reminding everyone that in 2025, nothing—not even cookies—is safe from wellness content.
