SpaceTime with Stuart Gary | Astronomy, Space & Science News
This episode of SpaceTime covers a range of exciting topics, including the delayed launch of Gilmour Space's Eris rocket, groundbreaking discoveries on Venus, and a billion-year-old asteroid impact in Scotland that raises new questions about the evolution of life on Earth.Eris Rocket Launch DelayedGilmour Space has postponed the maiden launch of its Eris orbital rocket due to technical issues encountered during pre-flight checks. The rocket, designed to carry small satellite payloads, will now face a delay of at least three weeks as the company investigates the unexpected deployment of the launch vehicle's nosecone fairings. We discuss the implications of this delay and what it means for future commercial launches.Tectonic Activity on VenusIn a fascinating discovery, scientists have identified possible tectonic activity on Venus, based on data from NASA's Magellan mission. Researchers found evidence of unique geological features known as coronae, which may indicate ongoing deformation of the planet's surface due to molten material from below. This research not only enhances our understanding of Venus but also offers insights into Earth's geological history.Ancient Asteroid Impact in ScotlandA recent study has revealed that a massive asteroid impact in Scotland occurred 990 million years ago, much later than previously thought. This discovery, based on dating tiny zircon crystals, suggests a connection between this impact event and the emergence of early freshwater eukaryotes on land. We delve into the implications of this revised timeline for our understanding of life on Earth and the environmental changes triggered by such impacts.www.spacetimewithstuartgary.com✍️ Episode ReferencesScience Advanceshttps://www.science.org/journal/sciadvJournal of Geologyhttps://www.geosociety.org/publications/gsa/geo.aspBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/spacetime-space-astronomy--2458531/support.00:00 This is Space Time Series 28, Episode 60 for broadcast on 19 May 202500:54 Gilmour Space's Eris rocket launch delayed10:15 Possible tectonic activity discovered on Venus18:45 Billion-year-old asteroid impact in Scotland raises questions about early life on Earth25:00 Science report: Unexplained communications equipment found in Chinese-made solar panel inverters

Yeast is arguably the most important ingredient in beer, and it's usually the least recognized, so we brought in the experts to chat about it. Richard and Nate, Co-Founders of Ontario's premier yeast establishment, Escarpment Labs, joined Cee and Nate to get hyper nerdy about yeast and what it exactly is, how yeast is created and how it interacts with the other ingredients in beer, how they came up with their Pink Boots yeast strain, how yeast helps retain haze, how they create a bank of yeast, how non-alcoholic yeast works, their merger with Le Labo in Quebec and the differentiation between the two companies, how they work with Lallemand yeast, why Canadian breweries should use Canadian yeast, how to make Vegemite with yeast, and why breweries should buy professional yeast for their beers. In this week's absolute trainwreck of a masterpiece, the boys get Gooned beyond recovery.... Goony makes it on a questionable late-night Booty Call Segment that could land him in federal court or a cuddle puddle — still unclear.Meanwhile, Canada has officially banned Vegemite and we're asking the hard-hitting question: Have they lost their maple-flavored minds?! Surely we can bust a tariff on their ass. Leighton Walters is an Australian expat who was told he could not serve Vegemite at his Canadian Cafe because of the added Vitamin B in the spread. However, there is some good news in Walters fight against the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Leighton Walters told Luke Bradnam on 4BC Breakfast, "About 36 hours ago that the CFIA had a change of heart and basically gave us the tentative short-term thumbs up to put Vegemite back on the menu." "It is a win for small business and a win for Australia." "Don't touch Vegemite." "I said there are bigger issues in Canada than worrying about added B vitamins in a fermented yeast extract that's such an iconically Australian brand," Mr Walters said.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Finance Minister has acknowledged the Government's new cut-price regime for school lunches has issues - but indicated parents can also step up and contribute. A number of schools throughout the country have complained about late deliveries and sub-standard offerings under the new system. Nicola Willis says she expects the contractors to improve their service, but she's also reminding mums and dads that they can do their part. "There's nothing to stop them from putting a Vegemite sandwich and a banana in their children's school bag. Actually, that's why we have a welfare system in this country - so that every family raising children has a minimum level of income needed to deliver their needs. I think we do need to get away from the idea that the Government does everything." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When I started this podcast back in 2021, the number 1 person on my dream guest wishlist was Samantha Wills. She's my creative inspiration, the reason I got into marketing and someone I've admired for well over 12 years. And today's guest on the How I Do Content Podcast is the Samantha Wills. If you're new to the world of Samantha here's what you need to know.Samantha Wills is an award-winning designer, author, speaker, and advocate for the arts. She founded one of Australia's most popular jewellery brands from her dining table at just 21 (which I was OBSESSED with), and which went on to be hailed as “Australia's biggest export since Vegemite.”Her debut book, Of Gold & Dust, became an instant bestseller, chronicling her journey with raw vulnerability and humour, revealing the realities of a creative founder behind the highlight reel of social media and public appearances. A little bit of ice cream will take you far! It's episode 2 of Jenn's journey and they are starting international travel early with a visit to Melbourne! While everyone else is enjoying the spiders, snakes, and Vegemite, Devin is focused on getting extra time with Jenn via ice cream. However, not everyone likes his approach which leads to a callback for all us Bachelor nerds! Claire is out sick this week so Emma is joined by friend of the pod, Liviya Kraemer!
