In the 1840s, hundreds of Irish soldiers joined the Saint Patrick's Battalion to help defend Mexico against the invading US army. David Rovics is a songwriter, musician, writer and podcaster based in Portland, Oregon. Since the 1990's, David has been touring regularly throughout North America, Europe, and occasionally elsewhere, playing on stages large and small, at protests and festivals as well as in squatted social centers and folk clubs. He has recorded dozens of albums and has millions of his songs streamed every year. His writing and podcasting can be found on Substack and other platforms. David also plays music for kids.

In a special episode of This Week with David Rovics, I had a discussion earlier today with Peter Phillips about his new book, Titans of Capital: How Concentrated Wealth Threatens Humanity. 

  In 2008 during the Greek Austerity riots, a strange phenomena was born. Stray dogs began joining in the protests in Athens Greece against the IMF and their austerity measures directed toward every day citizens. These good boys and girls would voluntarily join protests and actively try to protect protesters against the police and their violence, siding always with the demonstrators. That's given him some preparation for the mission at hand, but driving on the front lines of Donbas, Michael's front and center in a war that's a year-and-a-half on, with no end in sight. Some songwriters, they yearn for a mantle — they strive for the political mark. I'm on a west coast tour this week, and as usual, someone's trying to get my gigs canceled.  Gig hosts are generally horrified to hear from someone telling them they're hosting a Nazi performer, but in the end they find the argument unconvincing.  I thought my critics needed a theme song, to get their message across more effectively, so I wrote one.

John Coleman of the Apocatastasis Institute interviewed me about what I've been up to over the past couple years, and about the state of the modern-day left, such as it is.  I spent a lot of time talking about the Progressive Industrial Complex.  Not sure what that is?  I'll explain.
