Today, we are talking to Jaime Brown who teaches IB English and Film Studies at San Diego High School, where she also attended. She has encouraged her students to volunteer at film festivals and developed a partnership with the San Diego Film Critics Society.
Beanie Feldstein currently stars in Greta Gerwig’s LADY BIRD opposite Saoirse Ronan. Set in Sacramento, California in 2002, the film takes an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home. Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Ronan) is a loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed high-school senior struggling to assert her independence, and Beanie plays the role of “Julie,” the loyal best friend who understands “Lady Bird” like no one else. Previously she starred in Nicholas Stoller’s NEIGHBORS 2: SORORITY RISING alongside Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, Rose Byrne and Chloe Moretz. The film grossed over $100 million worldwide. Her television credits include ABC Family comedy FAN GIRL, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK on Netflix and THE DEVIL YOU KNOW, an HBO pilot directed by Gus Van Sant.
Noted film critics Diana Saenger and James Colt Harrison discuss the 2016 remake of Ben-Hur. This recent version is the fourth movie adaptation of General Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ. The first was a 1907 short film; the second a 1925 silent feature; and the third a 1959 Cinemascope production starring Charlton Heston. This 1959 film won a Best Picture Oscar plus ten more golden statuettes. Jack Huston stars in the 2016 version, which is directed by Timur Bekmambetov. Diana and James are frequent guests on Movie Addict HQ. Saenger founded and operates Classic Movie Guide as well as Review Express. Harrison, a film historian, contributes reviews to both sites and posts in-depth previews/reviews on his Facebook page. Misha Zubarev returns to Movie Addict HQ for a discussion of his diverse filmmaking experience and to bring listeners up to date on the It Had To Be Us movie project. Denise Cassino, publisher of It Had To Be Us, joins in to introduce new readers to this award-winning romantic memoir by Harry and Elizabeth Lawrence. Film historian James Colt Harrison will co-host. Diana Saenger, founder of Classic Movie Guide, also plans to call in. Misha Zubarev has worked in various capacities on such films as Shooter, Loneliness, Annapolis, Four Funny Families and Synedoche, New York. His film 18 and Out was chosen to be included in NBC's The Screening Room. He also directed an award-winning TV series titled "The Wisdom Tree" and was highlighted in MovieMaker Magazine. After reading It Had To Be Us, Zubarev became interested in adapting it for the screen. He completed the screenplay last year and plans to direct the film. As the publisher of the Kindle version of It Had To Be Us, she organized a successful launch for the book four years ago, which led to a #1 ranking in an important Amazon category.
