Single White Female from 1992 is an interesting movie. It seemed to be a big deal at the time, but neither of us remember anything about it. The rumors of Jenna Ortega starring in a remake are certainly interesting, however. The Saw franchise brings back a lot of pleasant memories. Sure, the vast majority of them are tied to the first, but the same can be said about most long running movie series. Naturally, we have opinions about the cancellation of Saw XI and its future.Though we do not have the opportunity to cover them as much as we would like to, we enjoy short films. In this episode we get to talk about three shorts from the Boston Underground Festival. A gory anthology, the truth about banjo strings, and a really cool stop motion flick all caught our attention.Another movie from BUFF that interested us was Chain Reactions. That it was about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was cool enough. Chainsaw is one of the most important horror movies of all time and has a special place in our childhoods. That Stephen King is also prominently featured made it impossible for us to ignore.Alexandre O. Phillipe is a great filmmaker who has made tremendous documentaries about David Lynch, Alien, and The Exorcist. His signature style is on full display here as Chain Reactions is a perfect mix of nostalgia, theory, and opinion on Tobe Hooper's classic. It is a must watch. It has literally been years since we have reviewed a documentary about a cult. So, we were very excited to watch AUM: The Cult at the End of the World. We knew it would be interesting, but we had no idea what to expect. One of us was so dumbfounded by what they saw that they could only use one word to describe it.Aum is unlike any other cult. (Somehow, it is still in existence - kinda.) At its peak, it could legitimately claim worldwide membership that was in the tens of thousands. The existed in full view of the public, Worst of all, they had a relationship with the media that can only be described as friendly. It is a truly wild documentary. The film is directed by Gints Zilbalodis, written and produced by Zilbalodis and Matīss Kaža. A Latvian, French, and Belgian co-production, it features no dialogue and follows a cat trying to survive along with other animals in a seemingly post-apocalyptic world as the water level dramatically rises. Also inside this episode, Josh and Jade discuss the remake of Single White Female, starring Jenna Ortega and talk about their slate of recent TV watches. Her breakthrough came in 1999 with Chely Wright's recording of "Single White Female," which hit #1 on the country charts. Wright's follow-up recording of Johnson's "Downtime" also became a Top 5 hit. Carolyn was named Breakthrough Songwriter of the Year by Music Row magazine in 2000 and landed a record deal of her own with the Arista Nashville label. Her self-produced debut, Room with a View, hit the Top 10 in the US and earned Gold status in Canada. The singles "Complicated“ and "I Don't Want You to Go“ were both Top 10 hits in the US. She won the Academy of Country Music's Top New Female Vocalist award and swept the Canadian Country Music Awards. The follow-up album, Dress Rehearsal, also debuted in the Top 10. To date, Carolyn has earned nearly 20 Canadian Country Music Awards for songwriting, performing, and producing. As an artist she has toured with Reba McEntire, Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, and Merle Haggard. As a backup vocalist and musician she's toured with Ashley McBryde, Miranda Lambert, and Martina McBride. After a hiatus as an artist she has recently begun recording new music while continuing to enjoy success as a writer, including Chris Stapleton's "The Day I Die,“ a song Carolyn and Chris wrote together that appeared on his 2023 album Higher.

We did that.Mom was at first more sympathetic to Garland's jazzy style of filmmaking, but that didn't last long when we dove deeper into it.There is a lot to recommend this, but there is a lot that suggests that you may want to run far, far away from this one and watch CIVIL WAR instead.Mom & Mac chat: Working out, HR not responding, panic attacks, and private stuff. The movie talk starts at 11:15.Next time we are talking about movies about stalkers with SINGLE WHITE FEMALE from the US and THE CRY OF THE OWL, which is an American-British-Canadian-French-German co-production (according to Wikipedia). It is based on a Patricia Highsmith novel, so you know Mom is onboard! Thanks for all your support. If you disagree with our takes, please get in touch. I'd love to hear your interpretations!Remember, We LOVE you, WOHOS.  DON'T go into the basement!xx Support the Show.Interstitial Music Works is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported License.https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/Theme by Charles Michel "Aqui"Interstitial MusicKumiko (edited)Coma-MediaSubscribe to the Podcast for a Special shout-out!World of Horror's InstagramMom's InstagramMac's InstagramDonate to Translifeline

The psycho-female genre of movies has always deeply entertained 3BG. Single White Female is no different. It doesn't matter how good the acting, direction, or the story is. At the end of the day, there's a body count and a white woman screaming "I'm not crazy!" In this episode, we talk about the genre, Steven Weber, Fatal Fury, New York movies, and the crazy ass ending. BTW, this was the episode where we got banned from Twitch live on air, to fully enjoy that, check out our YouTube page.

The Back Room with Andy Ostroy

Chely Wright is country-music artist, author and LGBTQ+ activist. Named "Top New Female Vocalist" by The Academy of Country Music, she rose to fame as a commercial country singer in the '90s, and has since released 9 studio albums and charted more than 17 singles on the Billboard charts, including "Shut Up and Drive," "Single White Female," and "The Bumper of My S.U.V." She made history by being the first country music star to publicly come out as gay, which she wrote about in her 2010 memoir Like Me. The documentary film about her coming out process, "Wish Me Away", was nominated for an Emmy Award. Subsequently, her life's changed to include advocacy and corporate engagement around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and she currently serves as Chief Diversity Officer at Unispace--a global strategy, design, and delivery firm. She is also Vice-Chair of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network Board of Directors, which is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students. She was also recognized as a 2023 Crain's New York Business Notable LGBTQ Leader. Her latest book is 2022's My Moment: 106 Women on Fighting for Themselves. Chely shares her incredible journey from Wellsville, KS to the Grand Old Opry and her courageous decision to acknowledge her sexuality at the height of her career. This is her brutally honest and inspiring story. Got somethin' to say?! Put on your best fedora and pull that cat out of the dryer because we're discussing Christian E. Christiansen's teeny-bopper ripoff of Single White Female, The Roommate (2011)! Tagging in for the conversation is one of the film's superfans: Ali Chappell. Join us as we try (TRY) to figure out who thought this movie was a good idea, because nearly nothing in this shameless ripoff works. From it's incredibly stupid lead character to its complete lack of tension, it's a real misfire. God bless Leighton Meester, though, who at least tries to do something with a nothing role. Ultimately, The Roommate feels more like a business decision than an artistic one, which is a bummer given the cast that its working with. But hey, we've still got a semi-decent shower scene and a semi-thrilling climactic battle so....there's that? Questions? Comments? Snark? The Blind Rage podcast: Horror Movie Commentaries

Back in November of last year, Tony and I recorded a commentary for THE HITCHER (1986). Having done SINGLE WHITE FEMALE (1992) the week before, I spoke of the third Jennifer Jason Leigh movie that would make her a Blind Rage All-Star. Well, at the time, I'd forgotten James and I recorded a commentary for EYES OF A STRANGER (1981), one of Jennifer's earliest films, a few years back. So, making her fourth appearance on The Blind Rage Podcast is Jennifer Jason Leigh in the quite underwhelming erotic thriller HEART OF MIDNIGHT (1988). Actually, we were planning on featuring BURIED ALIVE (1990) this week, another thriller starring Mizz Leigh, but as is sometimes the case, I realized I didn't have access to it. Forced to scramble for content, I came up with…this…mess of a film. Join us as we try our best to make a good commentary out of a terrible movie. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/blindragepod/message
