Remakes, Re-Imaginings, Expansions. In 2004 Director Jonathan Demme would explore the world of Politics, Espionage, and Cold War Brainwashing with a new and novel take on John Frankenheimer's 1962 Cold War Classic The Manchurian Candidate. Demme would expand and manipulate Richard Condon's source material (a best-selling novel from 1959), replacing the Korean Conflict with an updated Persian Gulf - and a replacement of Soviet and Chinese Communist manipulation with International Global Corporations holding the strings. Demme's update would be both more timely, relevant, frightening, and - somehow - reveal the problems with both films (at least in the mind of one of your hosts). This week Mr. Chavez & I discuss this very important film, its predecessor and its relevance in the current global environment. We discuss great performances from Denzel Washington, Liev Schreiber, and - a criminally underused - Meryl Streep. Take a listen and decide for yourself if we are correct, misguided, missing the point, or if we don't go far enough with our assessments. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Join Ivoclar (AND US!) this February at LMT Lab Day in Chicago. Ivoclar will be offering 16 different educational lectures over the three-day event, giving dental professionals plenty of opportunities to learn, connect, and grow. Visit labday.com/Ivoclar to view the full schedule and register, and be sure to stop by and see the Ivoclar team in the Windy City. Cal-Lab Association Meeting in Chicago Feb 19-20 https://cal-lab.org/ LMT Lab Day Chicago Feb 19-21 https://lmtmag.com/lmtlabday Almost three years after his last appearance, Rob Nazzal returns to Voices From the Bench, this time joined by Mike Alessio of Bonadent Dental Laboratory (https://bonadent.com/). The conversation dives deep into lab leadership, culture, transparency, and how data—when used the right way—can empower teams instead of policing them. Mike shares his 32-year journey with Bonadent, from starting as a pickup-and-delivery driver to leading the Danaren division, and explains how a family-owned lab has grown into a multi-location organization without losing its people-first culture. Rob and Mike unpack the realities of tracking productivity on the lab floor, the challenges of sharing metrics openly, and why transparency builds trust, alignment, and accountability when done with intention. The discussion shifts to quality vs. productivity, the difficulty of truly measuring “quality,” and why labs must lead with craftsmanship before numbers. They also explore how digital workflows, QC processes, and proactive communication with doctors impact remakes, efficiency, and relationships. On the sales side, Rob breaks down how icortica (https://www.icortica.com/voices) helps labs grow by focusing on existing customers, improving retention, and giving sales teams real-time insights into what conversations they should be having—right before they walk into an office. Mike and Elvis share firsthand experiences using icortica (https://www.icortica.com/voices), highlighting how real-time data, centralized notes, and smart alerts change the way sales reps prepare, prioritize, and perform. The episode wraps with a look at Bonadent's unique culture (including their famous converted Walmart lab), long employee tenure, and why investing in people, transparency, and the right technology is the real key to sustainable growth in today's dental lab landscape. If you want to grow your business, you need clear insight into what's happening inside your operation and across your customer journey. That's where Icortica comes in. At Canadian Dental Labs, Icortica has become a cornerstone of how we operate—giving us at-a-glance visibility into performance, helping us focus our efforts, spot opportunities early, and solve problems before they grow. It takes the guesswork out of decision-making and shows us what to do next. Plus, the Icortica team is incredibly responsive and feels like a true partner in our success. If you're serious about growing your business and understanding your customers better, Icortica can get you there. Learn more at icortica.com/voices — Icortica, helping dental labs grow. Special Guests: Mike Alessio and Rob Nazzal.
First show of the second year on VBR. Thanks to everyone that has tuned in or downloaded over the last 12 months. Weekly shows are intense and come round so quickly. This week's show is a new music show for January. It's a real mixed bag, I'd only bought 16 new tracks and half of those were real chunky house tracks. You need about 25 for a two hour show so I needed to pad the first hour out but had no idea what to go with. The mix starts with three new tracks on the soulful deep vibe. I then cracked the vinyl out and played two of my favourite Soulfuric tunes. We stayed old skool and vinyl for the next four tracks before coming back up to date with Jay Vegas remake of another old classic from the mid 90's. One of my favourite tunes from back then. Remakes are the order of the day and we pick another with a beefed up version of The Fog's "Been A Long Time".Once we get past Yolanda Be Cool it's all new, up to the last track. We first pay a visit to Old London town and those lumpy bumpy UKG beats. The rest of the mix is the new house sound I'm hearing in the underground clubs. My fav is the Haritas track, absolute mayhem, love it.We finish off with another classic from the 00's - Shakedown - At Night.Unfortunately my computer crashed just as the last track was mixing in. It meant my show ended abruptly five minutes early and the recording stopped. I had to stitch it back together again.Next boat party for those of you in Sydney is March 6th, a Friday night cruise from 8pm to Midnight on the harbour. It is an experience being out on the water surrounded by the bright city lights. Mike and Angel are back to talk about the tragic news of iconic actor and filmmaker Rob Reiner. They honor his incredible '80s and '90s run, from directing the mockumentary genius of This Is Spinal Tap to the courtroom tension of A Few Good Men. Reiner mastered every genre, defining our nostalgia through films that still resonate to this day. Then, Mike and Angel dive into the thin line between remakes, carbon copies, and glaring rip-offs. They debate if The Hunger Games is a blatant copy of Battle Royale, while exposing secret remakes that might be too close for comfort. It's about who wraps the gift better as we look toward a massive 2026. Enjoy!
The calls didn't stop in 1974. In this special bonus episode of Cinema Shock, we're stepping out of the attic to examine the controversial, neon-soaked, and often misunderstood legacy of the BLACK CHRISTMAS remakes. We start by tearing into the 2006 remake—a film defined by its vibrant "Giallo" color palette, cannibalistic origin stories, and the heavy-handed studio interference that changed the movie's DNA. Then, we pivot to the 2019 Blumhouse reimagining, a divisive entry that traded mystery for a supernatural take on campus culture and systemic power. Finally, we pay tribute to the fans who kept the spirit of the original alive. We dive into the world of fan films, specifically the acclaimed It's Me, Billy (Parts 1 & 2), to discuss how indie creators managed to recapture the atmospheric dread that Hollywood struggled to replicate. We're joined in this episode by special guest John Ferrer, co-founder of the underground 24-hour Christmas movie extravaganza McArathon! Whether you're a 2006 gore-hound or a 1974 purist, join us as we unwrap the sequels and spin-offs that refuse to stay dead. In this episode: The Weinstein influence and the "missing" scenes of 2006. Why the 2019 version shifted from a slasher to a supernatural thriller. How IT'S ME, BILLY serves as the spiritual successor fans waited decades for. Girls Made PuddingBionic BayMany Nights A WhisperSkin DeepDuoQMetro GravityVile: ExhumedPagerEasy Delivery Co.No Players OnlineHorses Hosted on Acast. Listen, I tried so hard not to cry recording this episode. Today George Boone and I are talking about grief, the thing that HR loves to pretend can be solved with a three-day bereavement policy and a sad little “OOO.” But grief is messy and human and shows up everywhere: in how you work, lead, love, set boundaries, and literally get out of bed. George and I both carry losses that changed us forever, and instead of shoving that into the corporate void, we're unpacking what it actually means to keep showing up while your heart is busy learning a whole new shape. It's honest. It's tender. And somehow…it's also hopeful. Teamtailor is the fun, intuitive ATS that candidates actually like and recruiters don't dread opening on Monday mornings. In today's Daily Fix:The latest leak for Ubisoft's still-unannounced Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake may have revealed the game's official title. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced appeared on the PEGI ratings website, but has since been pulled, lending credence to the title's legitimacy. Ubisoft has yet to confirm its existence, but a previous financial results presentation teased an unannounced game for March 31, 2026. In other gaming leaks news, the PlayStation store may have revealed a major franchise character returning to Resident Evil. Art for Resident Evil Requiem features Leon S. Kennedy prominently along with new character Grace Ashcroft. Kennedy has not been featured in a mainline Resident Evil game since Resident Evil 6 back in 2012. Expect a proper reveal at The Game Awards later this week. And finally, take a peek into a four-park family vacation at Universal Orlando Resort.Presented by Universal Orlando Resort.
Issue 67 continues with the Remakes Tribunal. First we put a Remake on Trial and ask whether there was any justification for a new version of the Krays story with 2015's Legend. Then we offer a Parole hearing to a film which failed and is currently languishing in movie jail. Would a remake fix the problems in the John Woo/Nic Cage war film Windtalkers? On this week's Queer Cinema Catchup, Joe and Allison are once again joined by the excellent Nick and Joseph of Fish Jelly to delve into another Tennessee Williams' adaptation. This time it's the 1964 film 'The Night of the Iguana' directed by John Huston and starring Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, Deborah Kerr, and Sue Lyon. Together explore the complex themes of desire, spirituality, and salvation and share their thoughts on the performances, particularly praising Ava Gardner and Deborah Kerr, while critiquing some of the casting choices. They also touch on the queer subtext, Tennessee Williams' broader oeuvre, and how the film compares to other adaptations of his works. Closing thoughts include reflections on what could be improved and the lasting impact of the film.00:14 Introducing the Movie: The Night of the Iguana00:45 Plot Summary and Key Characters02:13 Initial Reactions and Movie Context04:38 In-depth Analysis and Comparisons07:03 Character Dynamics and Performances11:26 Symbolism and Themes17:03 Production Insights and Behind the Scenes36:39 Maxine's Jealousy and Misunderstandings37:22 Hannah's True Motives38:05 Shannon's Realism and Hustling38:33 Philosophical Reflections40:16 Maxine's Confrontation with Miss Judith40:47 Miss Judith's Obsession with Charlotte46:19 Hannah's Love Experiences48:44 The Iguana and Symbolism52:00 Differences Between the Play and the Movie54:38 Queer Themes and Interpretations57:26 Tennessee Williams' Legacy01:11:49 Behind the Scenes Drama01:12:39 Dysentery and Filming Anecdotes01:13:49 Emily Dickinson's Poem and Its Interpretation01:15:13 Themes of Death and Connection01:16:33 Reception and Oscar Nominations01:21:41 Potential for Remakes and Character Analysis01:29:39 Final Thoughts and Ratings01:32:08 Upcoming Reviews and Recommendations Hosted on Acast. AKA “the House of Wax that has less gore but somehow more underwear.” Listen as the crew discuss the role that cemented Vincent Price as a horror star after years of just being a handsome bastard, the challenges De Toth faced shooting the world's only 3-D movie by a man with one functioning eyeball, the film's often-forgotten pedigree as a remake meant to take audiences away to a simpler time for horror, and the unforgiving visage of Charles Bronson forever cast in undying clay.Check out the mega documentary IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS 1995-99 by CreatorVC: https://90shorrordoc.com?sca_ref=9729058.lIiOUEN8Xdhttps://www.boxofficepulp.com/Listen on Apple: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/appleListen on Spotify: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/spotifyListen on Amazon: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/amazonAll The OTHER Ways to Listen: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/listenFollow on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BoxOfficePulpPodcast/Follow on Twiter/X: https://x.com/BoxOfficePulp
Jurandir Filho, Felipe Mesquita, Coelho no Japão e Bruno Carvalho conversam sobre Super Mario World. Tonight on On Trial, we are comparing and contrasting the 1992 The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with the 2025 Hulu remake. The original, directed by Curtis Hanson, starred Annabella Sciorra as Claire Bartel, a new mother targeted by Rebecca De Mornay's chillingly composed nanny, Peyton Flanders, alongside Matt McCoy, Julianne Moore, and Ernie Hudson. It defined the early '90s domestic thriller — glossy, paranoid, and simmering with class and gender tension. The new version, directed by Michelle Garza Cervera, stars Maika Monroe as Polly Murphy, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Caitlin Morales, and Raúl Castillo as her husband Miguel, with a supporting cast that reframes the story through a modern lens of influencer parenting, fertility tech, and curated perfection. Tonight, we put both films on the stand: Has the remake deepened the original's themes of trust, vengeance, and control — or traded its bite for sleek, algorithmic polish? We're finding out which one truly rocks the cradle.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Turn on the shower. Disrobe. Cue the music! Tonight, Ben Lewandowski and I consider the merits of the classic 1960 thriller PSYCHO, directed by the master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock. As well as the very curious remake in 1998 directed by Gus Van Zant. This is an interesting one folks, since no other filmmaker has ever intentionally set out to copy a film to this degree. Ben and I had a great time discussing these films and we hope you will have just as good a time listening to our ramblings. Let's go!
