On this week's Queer Cinema Catchup, Joe and Allison are once again joined by the excellent Nick and Joseph of Fish Jelly to delve into another Tennessee Williams' adaptation. This time it's the 1964 film 'The Night of the Iguana' directed by John Huston and starring Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, Deborah Kerr, and Sue Lyon. Together explore the complex themes of desire, spirituality, and salvation and share their thoughts on the performances, particularly praising Ava Gardner and Deborah Kerr, while critiquing some of the casting choices. They also touch on the queer subtext, Tennessee Williams' broader oeuvre, and how the film compares to other adaptations of his works. Closing thoughts include reflections on what could be improved and the lasting impact of the film.00:14 Introducing the Movie: The Night of the Iguana00:45 Plot Summary and Key Characters02:13 Initial Reactions and Movie Context04:38 In-depth Analysis and Comparisons07:03 Character Dynamics and Performances11:26 Symbolism and Themes17:03 Production Insights and Behind the Scenes36:39 Maxine's Jealousy and Misunderstandings37:22 Hannah's True Motives38:05 Shannon's Realism and Hustling38:33 Philosophical Reflections40:16 Maxine's Confrontation with Miss Judith40:47 Miss Judith's Obsession with Charlotte46:19 Hannah's Love Experiences48:44 The Iguana and Symbolism52:00 Differences Between the Play and the Movie54:38 Queer Themes and Interpretations57:26 Tennessee Williams' Legacy01:11:49 Behind the Scenes Drama01:12:39 Dysentery and Filming Anecdotes01:13:49 Emily Dickinson's Poem and Its Interpretation01:15:13 Themes of Death and Connection01:16:33 Reception and Oscar Nominations01:21:41 Potential for Remakes and Character Analysis01:29:39 Final Thoughts and Ratings01:32:08 Upcoming Reviews and Recommendations Hosted on Acast.

Flesh crawls! Wax melts! Beneath the mask, is he sculptor or slasher?! BOP rises from the ruins of its humble podcast studio to bring you a BOP n A Movie commentary for André De Toth's 1953 technicolor classic, House of Wax! AKA “the House of Wax that has less gore but somehow more underwear.” Listen as the crew discuss the role that cemented Vincent Price as a horror star after years of just being a handsome bastard, the challenges De Toth faced shooting the world's only 3-D movie by a man with one functioning eyeball, the film's often-forgotten pedigree as a remake meant to take audiences away to a simpler time for horror, and the unforgiving visage of Charles Bronson forever cast in undying clay.Check out the mega documentary IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS 1995-99 by CreatorVC: https://90shorrordoc.com?sca_ref=9729058.lIiOUEN8Xdhttps://www.boxofficepulp.com/Listen on Apple: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/appleListen on Spotify: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/spotifyListen on Amazon: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/amazonAll The OTHER Ways to Listen: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/listenFollow on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BoxOfficePulpPodcast/Follow on Twiter/X: https://x.com/BoxOfficePulp

Jurandir Filho, Felipe Mesquita, Coelho no Japão e Bruno Carvalho conversam sobre Super Mario World.
There's a whole graveyard of badly handled remakes and “reimagining's” of beloved classics that just didn't live up to their legacy. Some weren't disasters exactly, but they lost the sparkle, magic, or wit that made the originals timeless. All to chat about with Lisa Cannon, Head of Studio at DMG Media.

Continuing Issue 66 of the monthly magazine podcast of the discerning film nerd. Our theme is still Stephen King so we're putting two more adaptations of his stories up for scrutiny in the Remakes Tribunal. Our Remake on Trial is 2022's Firestarter - is there any justification for this new version? Then we have a Parole hearing for a film that didn't work the first time to see if a remake would fix its problems - 2017's disastrous the Dark Tower. This Issue's Double Reel Monthly and Classics & Hidden Gems episodes are already out and we close with a Spotlight next week. Tonight on On Trial, we are comparing and contrasting the 1992 The Hand That Rocks the Cradle with the 2025 Hulu remake. The original, directed by Curtis Hanson, starred Annabella Sciorra as Claire Bartel, a new mother targeted by Rebecca De Mornay's chillingly composed nanny, Peyton Flanders, alongside Matt McCoy, Julianne Moore, and Ernie Hudson. It defined the early '90s domestic thriller — glossy, paranoid, and simmering with class and gender tension. The new version, directed by Michelle Garza Cervera, stars Maika Monroe as Polly Murphy, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Caitlin Morales, and Raúl Castillo as her husband Miguel, with a supporting cast that reframes the story through a modern lens of influencer parenting, fertility tech, and curated perfection. Tonight, we put both films on the stand: Has the remake deepened the original's themes of trust, vengeance, and control — or traded its bite for sleek, algorithmic polish? We're finding out which one truly rocks the cradle.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Turn on the shower. Disrobe. Cue the music! Tonight, Ben Lewandowski and I consider the merits of the classic 1960 thriller PSYCHO, directed by the master of suspense Alfred Hitchcock. As well as the very curious remake in 1998 directed by Gus Van Zant. This is an interesting one folks, since no other filmmaker has ever intentionally set out to copy a film to this degree. Ben and I had a great time discussing these films and we hope you will have just as good a time listening to our ramblings. Let's go!

When we discovered that Zack Snyder and James Gunn, the two titans of DC, were both credited on the 2004 remake of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, we just had to investigate. Tonight it's CAPE FEAR night. Two great films, the 1962 version directed by J. Lee Thompson, led by Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, VS the 1991 remake directed by Martin Scorsese starring Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis. Great discussion with my guest Ben Lewandowski where we look at the pros, the cons, the themes, and everything else these two solid films have to offer. Join us, won't you?

Stein) causes the crew to spring a trap on Cody during his favorite day of the year. Has there ever been a good remake? Why remake something that's already good? Obviou$ly there i$ a huge in¢entive to re-relea$e good $elling product$ again and again, but we're here to debate the artistic use or other incentives than purely the money aspect. What are more valid reasons to alter art decades after it's been placed into the arms of the public. Tell us your thoughts in the comments below and don't forget to support us on Patreon! It's time to close down your haunted curio shop, grab your anti-teacher assault pencil, and take a trip to the closest madness-mouth, because in this episode the crew welcomes back director David Weiner to the show to talk about his latest entry in CreatorVC's famous line of genre film documentaries, In Search of Darkness: 1994-1999! Pop this into your Talkboy as they have a fascinating chat on the process of putting together the most ambitious (and lengthy) horror retrospective yet, the decision to split the project into two films, what he thinks made the nineties stand out creatively as horror struggled to find its footing financially, and how the upcoming millennium stirred up old fears in audiences as it slowly introduced them to the scares to come.In Search of Darkness 95-99 on sale here: https://90shorrordoc.com?sca_ref=9729058.lIiOUEN8XdSnag yourself a copy and show your support! Also available is a double pack with 90-94: https://90shorrordoc.com/products/in-search-of-darkness-90s?sca_ref=9729058.lIiOUEN8Xd&sca_source=boxofficepulp.comWhile you're at it, pick up the CreatorVC digital filmography: https://90shorrordoc.com/products/digital-bundle-cvc-filmography?sca_ref=9729058.lIiOUEN8XdFind David and CreatorVC elsewhere on the internets:CreatorVC's Website: https://www.creatorvc.com/David on Twitter/X: https://x.com/tikiambassadorIn Search of Darkness on Twitter/X: https://x.com/80sHorrorDocIn Search of Darkness on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/80shorrordoc/In Search of Darkness on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/80sHorrorDocDavid on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/itcamefromblog/David's blog: https://itcamefromblog.com/Check out the mega documentary SLASH TRASH by CreatorVC: https://slashertrashdoc.com?sca_ref=9729058.lIiOUEN8Xdhttps://www.boxofficepulp.com/Listen on Apple: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/appleListen on Spotify: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/spotifyListen on Amazon: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/amazonAll The OTHER Ways to Listen: https://www.boxofficepulp.com/listenFollow on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BoxOfficePulpPodcast/Follow on Twiter/X:
