Now you see us, now you don't... This episode marks the first in a new series on Movies for Life all about movies and their remakes! The more different the movies are, the better - and this first pairing of movies couldn't be more different! Almost 90 years apart, we're taking a look at the two iterations of THE INVISIBLE MAN from 1933 and 2020. The original James Whale film is of course a classic, with an interesting and often dark, humorous look at the human condition and the corruption of power, and also with special effects that still hold up to this day. Then we go even deeper into Leigh Whannell's modern update of the story, which features a tour de force performance from Elisabeth Moss. The terrifyingly real situation explored in the movie is sadly very relevant, and even more effective to the hosts because of personal connections. We hope you all enjoy this discussion, and look for more Remakes episodes coming in the future! Denis Villeneuve's Dune is truly only half of the story as the film builds right up to an understated cliffhanger, therefore the majority of this film is setting up the characters and the story for what's to come. Villeneuve has a plethora of talent to pluck from, as there is not an actor present not bringing their A-game to the occasionally confounding vernacular inherent to this world. Visually stunning, but is it a great film? Take a listen as we dissect the overall film, as well as debate the concept of ending your film on a bonafide cliffhanger. Before we head out to the Sun City Fright Fest, we had some things to get off our chests. It's the spooky season and we had to talk about the plans we have for the month. This year, we have some choices that go against our previous plans. Plus, we talk about what Stephen King movies to watch in October and notice something about miniseries remakes. It also seemed like the perfect time to talk about Haunt.Watching as many horror movies as possible is a staple of October. We talk about some of our favorites that we watch every year. We also discuss how streaming as provided slightly different options for 31 Days of Halloween. Anyone in the mood for Squid Games? Or is the gruesome and nonsensical violence of Slasher: Flesh & Blood  more your speed? There is a lot more than movies to check of your scary bucket list. For many, a big part of Halloween is going to extreme haunted houses. Haunt is a Shudder exclusive about a group of friends that go to one and end up with more than they bargained for. Yes, it is a slasher, but why does it feel so different? The pacing and tone are unique, while the characters are familiar. The ending is something else entirely. We go over the good, the bad, and the terrifying.Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. Morbidly Beautiful is your one stop shop for all your horror needs. Amy introduced this week's topic by running through a brief history of remade music and movies. Amy then discussed some fun facts about the most remade movies and some epic flops of remade movies. For something different and because she had to leave midway through recording the episode we let Sarah go first this week. Sarah chose a couple of songs that she preferred the remake of instead of the originals. Sarah also declared her love for the movie Titanic made in 1997 which is far better than the original or any of the remakes of this movie (there are many).  Face it, you cannot beat Dicaprio.     Amy jumped back in at this point in the show to discuss a movie that she believed was better than the original. Amy's pick was the Stepford wives. The original was made in 1975 then remade in 2004. Amy like the remake better because she thought the equality between the genders discussion was better made in the re-make. Bianca finished us off by discussing the movie Freaky Friday and two of its remakes. The original film was made in 1976 and stars then child star Jodie Foster. The first remake Bianca discusses is the remake made in 1995 starring Shelly Long and Gabby Hoffman. The final remake Bianca discusses is the 2003 version starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. In Bianca's opinion, both remakes are better than the original. We say it every week however, we really want to hear from our listeners. In today's Daily Fix, the GTA trilogy remastered collection is one step closer to release, as evidenced by the Rockstar Launcher being updated with a bunch of references to the trilogy. Also, the code mentions 'unreal', which is likely related to previous reports that GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas were being ported to the Unreal Engine. Crazy thing is, Rockstar hasn't even announced these games yet. However, they have been taking down HD mods for those games recently, which is probably because they're about to sell you their own HD remasters and obviously don't want you getting them for free with simple mods. Anyway, we'll probably hear something official from Rockstar very soon. The final Smash Bros. fighter has been revealed and it's none other than Kingdom Hearts' Sora. Congrats to all the KH fans out there, as this was a long time coming. Sora will fit in nicely with Samus, Banjo, Kazooie, Marth, and the whole gang, but hopefully he leaves all that confusing Kingdom Hearts lore behind him; don't want that clouding up the obviously deep and rich lore of Super Smash Bros. And finally, PS4 and Xbox One players will be entitled to a free next-gen upgrade of Battlefield 2042 if they buy the regular, basic-ass digital edition of the game. No need to buy any extra-expensive version, just the base game. HOWEVER, and this is very important, last-gen console players will need to buy the NEXT-GEN VERSION of the game, and you'll get the last-gen version for free. Just so there's no confusion, we'll say it again. If you plan on playing Battlefield 2042 on a Playstation 4 or Xbox One and you want the option to play it on next-gen if/when you get a new console, you need to buy the next-gen digital version of Battlefield 2042. That next-gen copy will come with the last-gen version. You get both.

Welcome to Talktober! That's right, and entire month of talking... on a podcast... wait wait wait, this theme kinda makes sense. For spooky season, we are breaking from the tradition of nearly every episode of this show, where talk about a singular film or franchise, instead opting to a topic presented by each host. If you like this format, please let us know. If not, please let us know. This week's topic is hosted by Jake, who asks, "which are better, reboots or remakes?" Now, when we write these episode descriptions, it's kinda tough. Imagine a book report, but instead of a teacher, you are writing it for Skynet from Terminator (i.e., the Google algorithm). Given the topic this week, we literally touched on over 50 films, and now we are left trying to include mention of them in this description, but crafted in a way that is not a generic list. Let's see if this works... The discussion defends the Friday the 13th (2009) reboot, but trashes the Nightmare on Elm St. remake. We kinda defend the Rob Zombie Halloween reboot and distinguish it from a remake. We take a hefty dump on the Let the Right One In remake. The 13 Ghosts reboot kicks ass. The Carrie remake does not. The Blob can kinda be a reboot or a remake; find out which we call it. The Hills Have Eyes has a remake, or is it a reboot? The Thing gets arguably the most successful reboot ever, but Psycho may have the worst remake. The Fly has a wicked reboot. The Omen has a dorky remake. The Child's Play reboot is amazing, shut up. The Grudge remake is butts. The Evil Dead (2013) reboot rules your behind. The Ring remake is caca. Evil Dead II is a reboot, right? My Bloody Valentine has a remake and it's not worth watching. Piranha 3D is a great way to revitalize a franchise. Willard is a rat-infested remake. Dawn of the Dead is a bombastic reboot, whereas both Night of the Living Dead remakes from 1990 & 3D 2006 are alright. I am Legend and Omega Man are different and thusly we have a reboot. No one gives Manhunter credit, but its remake, Red Dragon, is a masterclass. The Crazies is kinda bleh until its reboot. Quarantine is a lesser remake of Rec. Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a super fun, vibrant reboot. Amityville Horror... sigh... is fine, but the sequels need to shut up. House of Wax/ House of Wax/ Tourist Trap are all movies. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot/ remake argument could go round and round like leatherface's chain. Black Christmas has shitty remakes that pretend to be reboots. Suspiria is great in both forms. Pet Sematary has a reboot. And then we talk about a bunch of other flicks, so just like... download this episode and let us word vomit inside of your noggin, bruh. Doug also interviews extreme videographer and director, Samhel. Find trailers for his films and links to buy them here: https://vimeo.com/user90082436 This week's "Hidden Track" is Runaway by Mercury Rising.
