On today's show we have Sandi Brock, the woman behind the Sheepishly Me brand, business and screen. Sandi is a wife, a mother and a Canadian sheep and grain farmer. In 2012 she and her husband, Mark, ventured down an unplanned path when they decided to step away from farming with extended family, so they could instead make time and space to start a new adventure of building their very own sheep farm. Fast forward five years and Sandi found herself yet again venturing down another unplanned path when she decided to pick up a camera and start sharing her very raw and real journey as a new and inexperienced sheep farmer on YouTube for all the world to see. In this episode we cover: The moment that kicked off Sandi's growth on her YouTube channel What she's learned along her journey - not only about business, but about herself, too The struggles that she faced and how she kept showing up despite them The power of human connection The value of continuing to be a consumer of your platform, not just a creator The importance of monetizing your content creation and how she wishes she would have implemented ads sooner How getting out of your comfort zone can open up amazing opportunities that you didn't even know you wanted Resources and links mentioned in this episode: Check out and subscribe to Sandi's YouTube channel, Sheepishly Me Connect with Sandi @sheepishly.me Visit Sandi's www.sheepishlyme.com Visit our website, www.elevateyouragstory.com Connect with @nataliekovarik and @taravanderdussen on Instagram Onsite Production: www.thegaugepodcast.com Make sure to hit subscribe so you don't miss out on future episodes! I got the amazing opportunity to speak with Sandi Brock. Sandi taught me so much about the sheep industry and utilizing farming in a way that works for your family. Sandi is an amazing individual who has taken the social media world by storm by sharing the trials and tribulations of raising livestock. I hope you enjoy our episode as much as I did! More on Sandi: I am a sheep and grain farmer from Hensall, Ontario. Historically a grain operation, my husband Mark and I run 1700 acres of crops, and diversified into sheep in 2012. Now we run 400 commercial ewes. In 2017, I decided to share this sheep life online through YouTube. A platform, that like the sheep, challenges me but puts into focus the story that is our backbone. People long for connection. Trust. Empathy. Community. My goal is to not change minds, but to open them to a new point of view. As it turns out, this community ended up opening mine. *Connect with Sandi on Social Media* Instagram: @sheepishlyme Facebook:@sheepishlyme Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmVM... Sheep farmer Sandi Brock might look a little familiar, if you’re keen on YouTube and Instagram. The Staffa, Ont. farmer was raised on a dairy farm, worked on a broiler breeder farm, and then eventually chose sheep as the livestock venture to diversify her grain enterprise. Brock learned so much in those first years of... Read More

If you look at what Google thinks a farmer is, you'll find plaid and men. If you look at the statistics of an actual farm, you'll find that over a quarter of today's farmers are women. Are there any unique challenges being a woman in agriculture? Is there anything more than proving yourself with hard work and determination? We find out from: Sandi Brock (https://www.youtube.com/sandibrock) Amanda den Haan --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/foodbubble/message

The mental well being of farmers and ranchers is toyed with due to uncertainties like weather and market prices. Suicide rates among U.S. farmers are double that of Veterans. Four of my favorite Canadian women have dug their heels into the issue. Kim Keller hit the stir button on Twitter resulting in numerous people sharing their stories. Lesley Kelly and her husband Matt bravely put themselves on out there to share their story on Periscope. Sandi Brock and Amy Matthison brought attention to the subject with a funny yet genuine YouTube episode. These ladies have brought attention to the issue which has hit agribusiness and mainstream media in Canada. So, why aren't we seeing the same results in the U.S.? Join Dan Neenan, a colleague and director of the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety. The discussion is dedicated to piecing together the puzzle and initiating major involvement from organizations in the U.S. Thanks for listening!
