This week at Camp Shady Birch, we're unwrapping the worst part of the holidays: truly unhinged gift guides and the chaos of simply being alive in December! Counselor Zachariah kicks things off with a parking violation saga for the ages after he found a bright orange sticker slapped on his perfectly legal parked car and immediately took to the internet to publicly drag the culprit. Festive! Counselor Jonathan dives into the wild story of a magician who implanted an RFID chip in his hand for magic tricks and then forgot the password to his own hand. It's giving tech anxiety. Also, a new study about how urban raccoons are literally evolving shorter snouts and showing early signs of domestication just from living in our cities and eating our garbage. We love new housemates!! They should pay rent lol! We've got the annual curse of dry cracked knuckles, terrible holiday gift guides, undying love for gingerbread men and why they've finally (rightfully!!) become the face of the holiday season this year, and so much more! This episode was mixed and edited by Kevin Betts.Get your tickets to see Zachariah Porter's new Live Comedy Tour!Want BONUS CONTENT? Seann William Scott, Michelle Pfeiffer, Felicity Jones… and my dog Blue barging in for a potty break. Yeah, this episode is stacked. In this festive-yet-chaotic episode of Pop Culture Weekly with Kyle McMahon, I kick things off with my buddy Seann William Scott, a.k.a. Stifler, who's back to talk Season 2 of his Tim Allen sitcom Shifting Gears (now airing on ABC and streaming on Disney+ and Hulu). We get into everything from tortured Philadelphia Eagles fandom and awkward Thanksgiving family drama to what it's really like shooting a multi-cam sitcom in front of a live studio audience. Seann talks about working with Tim Allen (yes, America's TV dad), navigating punchlines around real-time audience laughter, the magic of shorter 13-episode seasons, and why this show feels like comfort-food TV that still lets him be home in time to pick up his daughter from school. He also teases his upcoming horror film Dolly, a brutal 16mm French-extremity-style shocker that horror fans are going to want on their radar. Then we go full holiday mode with screen legends Michelle Pfeiffer and Felicity Jones, who join me to talk about their new Prime Video holiday dramedy Oh. What. Fun. Michelle opens up about why she signed on to the film, working with director Michael Showalter, and how the movie doubles as a love letter to overworked, underappreciated moms everywhere. Felicity shares how the mother - daughter dynamic in the film mirrors real life, why the story balances emotional truth with big, messy, laugh-out-loud moments, and what makes this holiday movie feel a little less “perfect snow globe” and a lot more “this is what my family actually looks like.” Watch Oh. What. Fun. on Prime Video here!If you love celebrity interviews, holiday movies, sitcom deep dives, Shifting Gears, or just want to hear me quietly spiral about the fact that I just interviewed Michelle freakin' Pfeiffer, this one's for you.If you dig the show, subscribe, rate, and share - and tell your friend who's always stealing your streaming passwords.

You don't have to be a fan of “The Polar Express” to enjoy these holiday trains – though it might help. On this week's episode of Peak Northwest, we look at some of Oregon and Washington's most popular holiday-themed excursions on historic railroads, which have officially kicked off for the season. Some trains cater specifically to fans of “The Polar Express” while others offer the typical accoutrements of the holiday season: lights, cookies, cocoa and Santa. They've become some of the most popular and best loved holiday traditions in the region. Here are some highlights from this week's show: How the two “Polar Express” trains are bringing the story to life. What you need to know about all the holiday train rides in the region. Tread Merrily 2025 begins with the annual tradition -- a Festive episode of Doctor Who. This one is called "The Time of The Doctor." When a signal broadcasts across all of time and space, The Doctor soon finds himself in orbit around a mysterious planet. But he is not alone with Daleks, Sontarans, Cyberman, and more also investigating the signal. Meanwhile, it's Christmas dinner at Clara's and she needs him to be her boyfriend. Are these two threads connected? Is the planet really Gallifrey? It's almost time for the clock to strike 12 and The Doctor is out of regenerations. Is this the final end? Justin determines Steven Moffat's third worst trait as a writer. The discussion centers on Moffat using his greatest hits throughout this story, leading to Tread Perilously's own greatest hits -- including Erik's belief about the real end of A Song of Ice and Fire, Twilight hot takes, and a determination about who has seen the light of the Two Trees. Erik tries to figure out why Paul McGann was seen recently shooting something in his Eighth Doctor costume. Justin stumbles on the secret sauce of Stranger Things. The true name of The Doctor is revealed. The Lord Humongous makes a trip to the market and Justin determines what the Sontarans really resemble.

We welcome Laura Klynstra, author of The Homemade Pie Cookbook, to share tips and ideas for kicking our baking game up a notch. We get straight into asking Laura all our many questions about achieving the perfect base for our holiday desserts. Whether you love to use butter, shortening, or even lard, the important thing is to leave your fat a little chunky to create those flaky layers in your pie crust. If you prefer a rustic look and feel, a galette might be more your style. Hot tip: bake it in a cast iron skillet to avoid the mess if the filling leaks out of the pastry. When it comes to decorating the top of your pies and tarts, prepare your toppings in advance but wait to finish it off just before you serve it. Try adding cookies, fruit, caramel sauce or piped whipped cream to design your beautiful creations. We made Laura's recipe for a Raspberry Linzer Tart. This delicious dessert is based on a Linzer cookie, and is a beautiful tart to serve this holiday season. Get the Raspberry Linzer Tart recipe. Find Laura's book here: The Homemade Pie CookbookFollow Laura on Instagram @spiceandsugartable Three Kitchens Podcast - a home cooking showCheck out our website where you can listen to all of our episodes and find recipes on our blog: www.threekitchenspodcast.comYou can support the show with a small donation at Buy Me A Coffee.Want to be a guest? In this festive episode, Janina sits down with Duncan Gammie, founder of The Wee Vinoteca, to build the ultimate Christmas Wine Box. Together they explore pairings for classic holiday dishes, taste through six standout bottles, and unpack why English fizz, Greek Assyrtiko and South African Chenin Blanc belong at your Christmas table this year. Shownotes [01:37] The Christmas Pairing Game begins - smoked salmon, prawn cocktail, Stilton, roast turkey, roast beef, nut roast, mince pies, sticky toffee pudding and panettone - what are the perfect wine pairings?  [21:45] Duncan shares his background, how The Wee Vinoteca started, which recently won Wine Club of the Year from IWC. [24:26] Introducing the Christmas Wine Box - six wines designed to cover the entire holiday table with versatility and balance. [24:48] Black Chalk Classic Cuvée – English Sparkling Wine (Hampshire, UK) Duncan explains chalk soils, vintage differences, and why English sparkling has become a staple for holiday starters, seafood and celebrations. [29:04] Visiting English vineyards - where to go.  [31:35] Muses Estates, Assyrtiko (mainland Greece) A structured, saline white that handles seafood, richer starters and vegetable dishes. Duncan compares mainland Assyrtiko with Santorini, discussing old vines, wild ferments and gastronomy pairings. [37:45] The conversation widens to Greek grapes and styles – Assyrtiko, Xinomavro, Savatiano, Roditis and today's fresher, high-quality Retsina – with advice on discovering them by the glass or in tastings. [39:20] Brookdale, Old Vine Chenin Blanc (Paarl, South Africa) Why Chenin shines at Christmas: texture, generosity, acidity and ageing potential. References to producers like Lismore and stylistic comparisons to white Burgundy. [43:40] Roccafiore, Sangiovese (Umbria, Italy) Fresh Italian red ideal for antipasti, turkey and Boxing Day dishes. Duncan highlights its balance and easy versatility and contrasts Sangiovese from this inland region with Chianti and explaining how Umbrian Sangiovese offers softer tannins and great value. And discussing Sagrantino grape. [47:51] Hey Diddle, Malbec/Cabernet Sauvignon (Claire Valley, Australia) Discussing the Claire Valley, and what is happening in this region, alongside practical tips on opening bottles sealed with wax. [51:54] Diatominist, Pedro Ximénez (Jerez, Spain) Explaining how PX sits within the broader (and sometimes confusing) Sherry styles and why this luscious, nutty, treacle-like dessert wine blows people's minds at Christmas fairs. [57:17] Duncan and Janina note that PX is usually perfect in small pours, talk about visiting Montilla-Moriles near Córdoba, and tempt listeners with the idea of tapas-hopping through a city that boasts four UNESCO World Heritage Sites. [57:46] Asked which wine he always opens at Christmas that isn't necessarily in the box, Duncan admits it's English fizz – a sparkling wine he and his wife love and a non-negotiable part of their celebrations.
